I wonder what's the dividing line between supposedly "evolutionary" phobias, and cultures where the object of those phobias is a traditional dish. Think fear of snakes/spiders/bugs/etc... They're probably less frequent out of sheer exposure, but I wonder if some people still develop them anyway and try to avoid those specific animals.
It also makes me wonder how much of these phobias are actually biological predisposition and how much are instead social contagion. Did the first person to sautée grasshoppers do it out of necessity and crunched through the fear, or was it the curiosity of a scientific cook?
