Miss when we just point blank called a film misogynistic instead of just slapping the term "the male gaze" on something. Like it's either always used poorly, or it used to work around and soften the "blow" of calling something misogynistic and voyeuristic.

#like something about choosing to use that instead of just calling it what it is #really dilutes the conversation to me #its also so interesting to me the way its use in filmography has changed into a synonym for cinematic misogyny #when its more so a term to encompass the perspective of how cinema itself has been crafted around the experiences and view points of men #down to the way cameras themselves work and how we often use them to frame things on top of the intent OF the frame itself #like its about patriatchy inherit to cinema and not exactly moments of scripted misogyny
