Well, i am writing fic again. Because i can apparently spend years lurking in mxtx proximal fandoms (shen yuan i love u), then a full year watching vox machina and then critical role campaign 1 and campaign 2, devouring all the caleb fic i can find and still not feel the energy to participate in the fandom. then be like no, no, this silly blue man and very serious tiny man with his violence ballet, this is where i have something to contribute (read, "someone did the au where the coinflip went the other way, right, right? huh i guess not, haha wouldn't it be funny if--")
???
Anyway it has been one month, i have written 25k, probably 15k to go, there is a Google slides doc with a diagram of the silken squall (its a giant kite, btw) and a map of the continent of marquet with to-scale color-coded annotations of each group's location and distance traveled by day, i have rolled stats for dorians parents (sorry dadvernwind, please have some extra guards, you need them), i made a ppt chart comparing parentvernwinds to the party's stats (y axis: win hearts [wis+cha], x axis: win fights [str + dex + con], bubble size: hit points) , i have a spreadsheet with the silken squall's land use and wealth distribution, ashton wants to know why he's so stressed when he's not even in the main pairing (jokes on him though he got to talk to dorian's mom twice and she threw out my arranged marriage subplot, look she says to me there's a marriageable young genasi right here who knows how to protect his own, they bonded over protective violence guys, ashton didn't notice), bell's hells sucked so bad at Orym's resurrection ritual i thought he might actually just stay dead, i had to go back and just let fearne lie,i gave the squall griffins to solve a travel-speed issue and now dorian's bitchy neglected griffin is the star of the last third of this fic, Imogen has emerged from the wings to live the horse girl movie she always wanted, and orym and dorian have not yet shared a scene together but i swear its happening soon
haven't written complete fic (not just a story set up) or anything longer than 10k since jan 2016 so.... this is good... tentatively optimistic here...
in conclusion:
(fcg isn't on there because the fic has bigger parts for orym, dorian, ashton, & fearne, but then i added laudna & imogen to make dorian's dad look better. ...it didn't work. XD)
#critical role#cr3#dorym#dorian storm#orym of the air ashari#liam o'brien has some kind of laser sight locked onto my narrative kinks#robbie daymond is so fucking charming in the most disarming way i did not expect that#hope this 'i can write again' thing continues so i can finish the two egregiously overdue charity fics still eating away at my soul

The Kiss Thief - Park Seonghwa Social Media AU
13. Chapter Nine: Mega big brain boy ✨
Previous Part✨ Next Part✨
Masterlist of the AU✨
🌸
Yesterday was wild. It was truly wild personified. Your friends and Seonghwa's friends mingled together to create, as Yeosang kept mentioning, chaos multiplied.
Despite the loud talking, heavy eating, after-dinner meeting and dramatic goodbyes under the influence of alcohol, (No one has yet confessed who switched Cola with Alcohol. Hence, the appearance of bold Jongho) the time spent was the most fun you've had since college life began.
It was fun but it was tiring staying up late.
The only thing that occupied your mind today was the thought of comfortable sheets putting you to sleep in your bed.
Currently, you're thinking about the same but with different emotions, specifically regret.
"Why are you making a face like that? This is the fourth time you've zoned out today." Seonghwa's question pulls you out of your trance.
You two wrapped the daily studio teaching a few minutes ago and the next occupants of the recording studio showed up when you were leaving. As Seonghwa conversed with them, you decided to text Yeri, who delivered you the news, shattering your napping plans.
Why today, of all days, today I forgot my key?
You rub your eyes and place the phone in your pocket. "You've been counting?"
"Well, you're the only person here I am supposed to pay attention to. So yes, I've been counting. What's up?" He asks as you two begin walking down the stairs.
Groaning, you push your hair back into an aggressively tight ponytail. "I forgot my dorm keys, I wanted to nap but now I need to pretend to study in the library while I complain loudly in my mind."
He raises a brow, hands fishing out car keys from his pocket. "Why don't you just drink your deathly beverage? Doesn't it keep you all buzzed and active?"
You stop in front of the building entrance with a smug expression. "Oh, my deathly beverage for which I attended the beverage addiction convention?"
Looking down, he shakes his head. "Do you want to grab something to eat?" You expected a snarky or teasing remark but what is delivered surprises you for a moment.
"Together?" The thought of just the two of you sharing a meal is enough for your heart to beat a little faster than usual.
The time spent in the studio mostly consists of him correcting mistakes and answering your confused questions.
The initial embarassment is only subtly present. His playful comment are mostly absent when he's explaining what Hongjoong has already well explained to you. His presence is comfortable.
When among your friends there's always someone (mostly Mingi) chiming in now and then but this is the first time since you've met that you'll be spending time with each other.
Frankly, you also don't know how to act around everyone with him when even sneezing is considered giggling. You two haven't exactly acknowledged openly about your high school crush on him other than easy, playful conversation you two engage in quite a lot, whether texting or talking.
"No, we'll be sitting on seperate tables." He begins walking towards his car. You had half-expected an answer like that.
"Really? That sounds great, at least I don't have to put up with your nagging." Arriving by his side, you comment with a side eye.
He offers you a deadpan expression. "Didn't you listen to what Yeosang said? I'm actually that clueless. That open discussion about me, remember."
"Are you really? I have receipts of your messages admitting how you find my reactions 'cute'." You tap your pocket, contaning the source of evidence, your phone.
The confidence comes when with him without you having to muster up any.
Seonghwa unlocks his car, a small hint of smile on his lips. "Okay, let's continue this conversation while eating."
This boy.
"Are you really that unphased? Are you really that clueless? Teach me your ways."
He opens the door to the passenger's seat. "I'll feed you instead."
You place your hands on your chest, followed by a dramatic expression. "Wow, you're amazing at deflecting."
Seonghwa places a hand on his hip and that's your cue to get inside before losing your free meal ticket.
You'd rather eat with Seonghwa any day instead of pretending to study at the library with droopy eyes.
🌸
After a ten minutes ride to a small and cozy restaurant, you two are seated in the chatter filled environment with two servings of soup in front of you loaded with vegetables, meat and noodles.
He arranges the spoons for both of you.
"Better than greasy food that will make you more sleepy." He sips a spoonful and an instant satisfaction takes over his features.
You chuckle. "Oh my god, you're really a mom material---" The comment is instantly regretted as you taste the refreshing soup, enough to widen your eyes.
He slurps the noodles and then turns to you with a victorious smile. "You develop motherly instincts when you hang out with children."
"Children?" You're listening to him but the soup definitely has a majority of your attention. "Oh, you mean the guys?"
"All the seven of us are uniquely handful," The smile is still ever present on his lips.
Even though you haven't spent much alone time with him, you can still detect the warmth filled, selfless nature he had back then and still has it within him now.
That was one of the main reasons you were attracted to him.
Okay, not now (Y/N), let's not make it awkward.
You take a big bite of the juicy, broth soaked meat. "You're still as initiative and kind as I remember." Speaking with much difficulty, you hold up your hand in front of your lips, "But I think something went wrong somewhere and you developed the quality of enjoying making fun of innocent girls like me."
He offers you a tissue with his trademark, unphased expression. "I am actually that clueless." He shrugs.
You snatch the tissue and wipe the corner of your lips. "Yeah, sure."
He laughs at the look on your face. "What? You can't take a little teasing from your senior?"
You throw up your hands in false frustration. "Oh my god, stop asserting your age kink!"
"It's not a kink!" He says defensively.
"Yes, sure. Mingi is Mingi but you, you are something else!" You say the statement, knowing that he understands the meaning behind it and begin sipping the remaining broth.
He too, downs the broth in one shot. "What am I?"
There it is, that amused and knowing glint in his eyes and the smirk he's attempting to hide.
"You're..I don't know, whatever. Seventeen year old Seonghwa would never do this to me" You bite your tongue after delivering the statement.
He crosses his arms below his chest. "Seventeen year old Seonghwa was actually clueless."
You point a finger at him with an exaggerated smirk. "Ha! You are basically saying that twenty-one year old Seonghwa isn't!"
He places his head on his hands, shoulders shaking with gentle laughter. "(Y/N) if you keep reacting like that, do you really think I can stop?"
Your expressive gesture shrinks. "You know what, I understand now." You hold up your hands in defeat.
"No, don't stop now. We are finally opening up and talking." He gives you an encouraging nod.
"Oh, don't trick me now. My eyes are about to roll back into my head." Your fingers undo the ponytail to let your hair breath.
Sleep has abandoned your senses long ago but only now you realise how energized you're feeling.
"Fifteen year old (Y/N) would never." The innocent face of his doesn't do justice to the way he is speaking.
"Hey!" You protest.
Wow, I sure react to everything he says.
"Fine, fine. I'll stop now but If it ever gets beyond the limit, tell me." He assures with an honest expression.
God, you cannot be teasing one minute and be kind the other, no, don't do this Park Seonghwa.
You huff out a sigh and lean into your palms. "It is harmless anyway but you're too good at it and sometimes you are something else."
He mirrors your posture. "Yes, (Y/N), so tell, What am I? What is something else?"
Your face falls into your palm and you hear his soft chuckles.
Not again, Park Seonghwa, not again.

MY FLOWER
"Byul, aren't you taking too many things with you? Ah, Byul?” Of Yongsun flopped down on the bed younger. She rested her head in her hands and watched curiously as her couple went to visit their parents for a couple of days.
"Believe me, no. Three t-shirts and some underwear, " Moon laughed and winked at the older woman.
She immediately zipped up a small leather backpack and jumped on the bed to the eldest and leaned on top of her, putting her head on her shoulder. She made a cute pug, and Moon persuaded Kim to give herself a kiss. On the cheek, on the other, on the lips.
"Will you miss me?" Moon puffed out her hamster cheeks prettily.
"God, Buyl, you're going away for a week." Sometimes the youngest was such a child. "Of course I will," and Solar kissed her again on the lips.
Their love was so sweet, everyone noted it. Especially when they were on their own. The girls kissed, hugged and beat each other, of course, joking. They could mock and be offended, but reconciliation in the face of a delicious dinner was not long in coming.
"I'll call you every day," Yongsun said, stroking someone else's hair out of a careless bun. Moonbyul was still embarrassed by such actions, therefore, her cheeks flushed.
Solar laughed and poked her on the cheek, then kissed the offended one. Not like, Moonbyul when it was called these fluffy, chubby and cute little animal. It didn't fit with her role as a rapper.
"And you're a dog," the younger one said, wrinkling her nose and getting another poke.
"Yes, Beagle," the older woman laughed.
“I want to eat, the sun, let's go for lunch?”
There was only a nod. And they went to the kitchen, where they made ramen. Their eating was also accompanied by light kisses, hugs, and silly jokes. But as soon as the noodles were finished, Solar put the kettle on, and Moon called a taxi to the station.
Yes, they are very famous in Korea and have earned many prestigious awards. But Munbyul is too fond of trains, she thinks such trips are too romantic, especially when you just sit and look at the passing scenery. She would like to ride like this with Solar, but first her parents need to prepare for the fact that her soulmate is a girl.
Tea was drunk along with crunchy cookies. Munbyul slung her backpack over her shoulder, put on her jacket, and put on her shoes. Solar hugged her tightly and kissed her.
"Have a good trip and make sure you call," the older woman said with a wink. Byul kissed her on the cheek, snapped her nose, and left the house. Solar closed the door.
***
“Take it, my daughter, finally,” Mother hugged the girl. The daughter laughed and kissed the woman on the cheek, because she missed her. "Let's go inside, we have a surprise for you." Moonbyul, seize the backpack, then followed. She immediately took off her clothes and took off her jacket. They were waiting for her in the dining room.
“Byul!” two girls jumped up from their seats and ran to hug their older sister.
"Seulgi, Yesol," Byul laughed. She missed them as much as she missed her mother. She saw her father sometimes, but still clung to him as soon as the girls pulled away.
“Girls, let the sister sit down already, “ pompously protested mother, and all giggled.
Moon quickly climbed to the second floor in her old room. There everything remained as before, even on the walls hung a little wrinkled posters of idols, the same Super Junior sonbae or H. O. T. Moonbyul, as a teenager, loved them very much. She put her backpack on the floor and ran her finger over the Desk, which was filled with figures and toys. Not an ounce of dust - she can see that her mother is cleaning up here anyway. The bed was covered with a new blanket and fluffy pillows. There were still pictures of little girl, her sisters, and Mamamoo on the shelves.
“Byul, you have been gone too long,”- Yesol already was eating a salad when everyone had empty plates. "Are you lost?"
"Yesol," said Seulgi frowning. "Take it, mom, dad, Taeyoun and I wanted to tell you something," and only now did Byul notice that a guy was at the table with them. Probably a pair of sister. She was worried about what her fingers were saying. "We invite you to our wedding," everyone shouted, congratulating the young people. Moonbuyl this guy didn't know him, but she was happy with all, still my favourite sister is getting married.
"By the way, you haven't met yet, have you? Take it, meet Taeyoun. Tae this is my sister, Take, more, of course, known as Moonbuyl,” they shook hands.
"I know. I've been to your concert. It's really cool there. Yes, and you there so beautiful was” Byul smiled and crinkled his nose. "That's where we met, by the way."
“Yes, it was an interesting meeting, “ they told this story. Moonbyul did not even know that their concerts connect hearts. She needs to tell the girls.
Evening their was a lot of fun. All laughed, laughed and listened to various stories, especially many of them told Byul, because the idols life is very interesting. The girl was still actively gesticulating, and at one point she shook her head so that something pinched her neck. She squeaked, clutching at a sore spot.
"Byul, take your hands off and relax your shoulders," the guy said. He walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. And his hands are so warm. Taeyoun began to stretch her neck with careful movements of his hands.
"Oh, thank you, I'm getting old." Even bones are aching, Byul, again, caused a General laugh. Taeyoun, having done everything to the end, returned to his seat.
“I just have an older brother, and he works as a dancer. So I learned to do massages to help him.”
“ Brother there is, as interestingly…”
***
Moonbyul was very tired from the long ride, so as soon as her head touched the soft pillow, she was immediately confused. And she was not even embarrassed by the fact that solar didn't call her. The dream promised to be as sweet as a baby's. mother, who looked into the room, kissed her eldest daughter on the forehead, tucked a soft blanket. Byul only smiled and rolled over on the other side (as she usually slept in the arms of solar).
But she couldn't sleep properly. A sharp pain shot through her neck, causing her to Wake up. Moonbul hissed, afraid to Wake the others. The new flash was slightly lower. The girl ran her hand over it and felt for a sprout. After enduring the unbearable pain that made her want to climb the wall, she plucked the flower. Forget-me-not, the most real. Forget-me-not is a symbol of soulmate's sympathy for another person, especially since you can find out exactly what feelings are caused by the couple by the degree of pain. A slight tingling sensation - there is no reason for jealousy. Sympathy only in a friendly context. But the more painful it is, the more likely it is that soulmate is being taken away. They sometimes appeared on Byul’s body, but she did not attach any importance to this, she trusted The older one too much. There are too many colors. What does she do there?
The pain was moving lower and lower and had already reached his chest. Moon couldn't stand it any longer, she wanted to howl like a wolf, so she got up and went to the kitchen for pills. She didn't want to Wake anyone. Byul threw her head back, closed her eyes, and plucked a flower from her breast. It was no longer a forget-me-not. Tulips-a messenger of deep sympathy, love. They are much more painful and unpleasant. The pain was no longer tolerable, it increased in frequency and intensity, and Moonbuyl’s eyes were filled with tears. Adding one and one is not difficult, so she understands EXACTLY what her sun is doing. Moon closed her eyes heavily and gripped the table. She seemed to be surrounded by something very dense, a shell through which it was very difficult to hear something. Her feet were leaden and stuck to the floor.
That's why she didn't notice her mother running into the kitchen, worried. The woman sat, or rather, laid her daughter on the sofa in the living room and brought her cold water with painkillers, taking a sedative for herself.
The pill helped her. The pain finally subsided and became less demanding. She sat up, looking out the window at the moonless night, trying to find answers to her questions.
“Mom, thank you for caring,” girl forced, but smiled warmly and put his hands on the attacked flowers in the stomach.
"Why don't I stay with you? What if it gets worse? "there was no need to ask questions now.
Byul got up and tried to walk to her room, but her mind left her.

G O T 7 pt.4
"Hey kiddos!" Guerin called out in English as she entered the dorm for HEET. She had messaged them earlier that she would be stopping by. Having wrapped up breakfast with JB she had enough time to catch the boys and Eneoji before they left for work for the day.
"Noona!" Seungbin jumped up from the couch and ran to into entryway to greet her, the large white Samoyed hot on his heels. Guerin hugged the maknae in greeting then kneeled down to give her dog attention. The other five members of HEET made their way out to greet her as well. They all settled in the living room, Eneoji sprawled across both her and the typically nonexpressive Tobio next to her.
She listened as they caught her up on how everyone had been faring and some plans they had begun working on, including a possible World Tour now that they had gotten their first wins. It hadn't been long since their last promotions ended but they had all been working hard on preparing for the next comeback. Guerin asked them if she should take Eneoji home but Seungbin and Tobio asked to let her stay longer.
"Just let me know if your days get too long and you can't get away to take her out or you cant bring her to work. She needs the attention." Guerin cautioned.
"That time might be coming soon." Byoungjin said reasonably, but once he caught the pathetic expression from Seungbin he added, "But we have another couple days at least."
"I've been running with her everyday still! Sometimes people recognize us!" The American Gabriel said excitedly, "She's been giving out pawtagraphs." The pun had been a joke between him and Guerin but had become recognized fandom canon when he had let it slip in a vlive.
"Did Jackson ever make an appointment with you?" Minhwan asked suddenly, remembering his Sunbae reaching out to him.
"Yes he did, and his puppy is super adorable, we should absolutely schedule a playdate with MinNao and Eneoji." Guerin gushed.
"I haven't seen him in a while. It would be nice to see him again." Byoungjin said, happy at the prospect of meeting up with his fellow trainee.
"I met a few other people you guys know too. Mark Tuan and JB." Guerin said, though she opted to leave out that she had just gotten breakfast with the latter to avoid too many questions, "JB even came to see Mihi fly."
"I've head of JB. Doesn't he produce under the name Defsoul?" Tobio asked curiously.
"Yes, he helped me learn music composition and arrangement." Byoungjin answered, "How is he?" He turned to Guerin and she faltered.
"Ahh... we... he is nice but we kinda had a disagreement recently." She said honestly.
"What happened? Noona are you okay?" Seungbin sat up protectively.
"Yes I'm fine. He apologized." Guerin said, touched by the fifteen-year-old's reaction as she pinched his cheek, causing him to pout slightly.
"I'm not that surprised. JB was always a little hot headed." Minhwan frowned.
Guerin was shocked, "Hot headed? I would never have described him that way. I thought he was fairly laid back, even cute sometimes."
"Cute?" Minhwan coughed out a laugh, "Im Jaebeom? He hated aegyo!"
"No I dont mean aegyo." Guerin couldn't help but laugh at the idea of JB attempting full blown aegyo, "But he has... cute mannerisms? Like he puffs out his cheeks when he is thinking, or scrunches up his face when he teases, or plays up certain emotions when he gets excited." She tried to explain.
Byoungjin was looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What?" She asked.
"Nothing. You just described him very well." Byoungjin shrugged, clearly not telling the full truth.
"Yeah he had some of that too but he used to get mad and blow up a lot." Minhwan explained, "If he thought someone was being disrespectful, wasting time, not trying hard enough..." Minhwan flinched, "It wasn't fun being on the receiving end of that."
"I never would have guessed." Guerin said.
"Did you get yelled at a lot, Hyung?" Gabriel asked leader Minhwan, a slight cheeky quality to the inquiry.
"No, you rude punk." Minhwan answered back with even more sass, "But JB would have destroyed you. If you aren't careful I'll call him in to teach you a lesson." He threatened playfully, giving the younger man a couple pokes to the ribs, causing Gabriel to giggle and flinch away.
"JB had a rough childhood. His birth father wasn't a good person and he suffered for it. He talked about trying to change it. He was aware and he didn't want to be the kind of man that hurt his mom." Byoungjin said seriously. Minhwan and Gabriel looked chagrined. Everyone was quiet, unsure of what to say. Guerin processed the new information carefully, adding a bit more understanding to JB's personality.
"He must be working hard. It's not easy to overcome that kind of trauma." Tobio unexpectedly said. He wasn't as talkative as the others but when he did he had a habit of poignancy. The others nodded thoughtfully.
"What did you two fight about?" Seungbin asked suddenly.
"Oh... it's so embarrassing." Guerin hid her face in Eneoji's fur.
"Noonaaaaa, tell us!" Seungbin plied, pushing her gently and using full aegyo to get her to answer. She tried to avoid looking at him but he was too powerful.
"Okay fine." She pushed Seungbin away as he grinned in triumph and Gabriel cackled.
"He... asked me to sing a song he wrote." She said quietly.
"He asked you to sing?" Gabriel was floored.
"Noona we told you that you have a nice singing voice." Minhwan boasted. They had all spent time around her so they had heard her many times.
"Yeah but I'm not a professional. It's just for fun." She felt like she had to keep repeating it.
"Maybe he likes you." Gabriel said, then adding in English, "-likes you- likes you. Y'know?"
"Gabriel!" She said astonished, "Minhwan I can't reach, would you shove him for me."
"I don't know, he might have a point." Minhwan shrugged, trying not to laugh.
"Well he better not." Seungbin said making a face, "Noona you deserve someone nice."
"Don't speak ill of people you haven't met." Tobio scolded the youngest gently. Seungbin apologized and ducked his head. Guerin smiled fondly at the well intentioned boy before she caught another thoughtful expression on Byoungjin, who quickly blanked his face as soon as their eyes met. She didn't have a chance to question him before Minhwan changed the subject to talk about Mark and Jackson too and she forgot to bring it up again until after she had left.
"Charlie-ssi, have you eaten yet?" Jinyoung asked, coming up beside his favorite producer as she pored over a thick stack of notes.
"No, not yet..." she answered, distracted.
"That's silly, it's our meal break. Come eat with me." He said, taking a step back and gesturing toward the food truck that had been sent by his costars friends.
She glanced up, feeling regretful at having to say no to such a handsome man asking her to join him for a meal, "I can't, I want to finish this first. Besides, I'm on a diet, I wasn't going to eat anyway."
Jinyoung looked offended, "A diet?" He repeated blankly.
"Yeah, I've put on some weight and being around all these beautiful actors..." she trailed off realizing she might be oversharing.
Jinyoung shook his head disapprovingly, "Ridiculous. You're beautiful the way you are." He turned to walk away, muttering, "A diet."
She was frozen for a moment. Did Park Jinyoung just call her beautiful? She shook her head. It was probably just lip service. Still, it was disappointing not being able to eat with him. But she had eaten and drunk so much last night, she was feeling positively bloated. Shaking her head once more she turned back to her notes.
A few minutes later a plate of chicken with vegetable sides and half a cupcake was placed on the table in front of her. Looking up she saw Jinyoung settling in the chair next to her, holding a similar looking plate with the other half of the cupcake. She watched him in surprise as he nonchalantly settled in, picking up his chopsticks before meeting her gaze.
"Skipping meals is unhealthy. You should take care of your body and feed it well." His genuine smile made her heart race and she blinked to get her bearings. His smile turned slightly more mischievous as he reached over to break off a piece of cupcake with his chopsticks and raise it to her lips, "but a little treat every now and then is good too."
It took her a moment but she responded by opening her mouth and taking the bite, blushing and quickly looking around to see if anyone had seen. Jinyoungs smile took over his whole face, eyes crinkling as he turned happily back to his own meal. Charlie smiled too, then set aside her notes to dig in as well, talking with him as a few more crew members joined them at the table creating happy chatter during their break.
Guerin had met up with Jackson and MinNao for another training session, this one focusing on loose leash walking. Jackson and his puppy were both eager to learn and absorbed information, putting it into practice readily. The two humans chatted about training theory as they walked but it devolved into general chatter and joking around.
"Oh, why don't we get a coffee? MinNao can practice being calm and greeting people." Guerin suggested suddenly as they passed a shop with outdoor seating.
Jackson beamed, "That sounds great!"
"Go ahead and get seated. I'll order inside." Guerin pointed to a table on the patio.
"Wait, take my card." Jackson started to reach for his wallet.
"Nope! It's on me!" Guerin grinned and skipped away from him through the doors, ignoring his protests. He was left to make his way to the patio with his rotund red puppy. It wasn't long before Guerin reappeared with two iced Americanos, placing one in front of a pouty Jackson as she settled across from him.
"Oh MinNao, yes, I missed you too." Guerin cooed at the puppy who had begun wiggling as soon as she was back in sight, pointedly ignoring the sulking man. Jackson squinted his eyes petulantly, reaching over to his drink for a sip, not looking away. Once Guerin sat back she couldnt help but giggle at Jackson's exaggerated mood.
"Oh come on," she protested with a laugh, "Can't I buy a friend a coffee?" She returned his pout playing up the cuteness as much as possible.
Jackson let out his trademark high pitched squeal "Cuuuuute!" He exclaimed, leaning back and crossing his arms over himself defensively, dimples showing from his grin. Guerin couldn't help but laughing at his adorable reaction. The two continued their banter, intermittently reinforcing and playing with MinNao until during a lull Jackson changed the subject.
"Did you ever end up talking to JB again?"
Guerin took a moment, piecing together how she wanted to phrase the experience, "Yeah... he actually apologized. He seemed really genuinely upset with himself."
"What happened?" Jackson leaned forward curiously.
"It happened the same night we went out." She paused, "It sounds weird but he ended up at my apartment, drunk. He was really upset and apologizing a lot. I didn't feel comfortable sending him away that drunk so I let him pass out on the couch."
Jackson had no poker face. He sat back, looking disgruntled, "He spent the night?"
Guerin immediately tried to clarify, "Yeah but he was just passed out on the couch. It wasn't like... that." She floundered, "The next morning he didn't even remember but he bought us breakfast and apologized properly." Jackson still had an odd expression on his face so she tried to move on, unsure of how to phrase the scenario any better, "He actually asked me to try recording again."
"What did you say?" Jackson asked.
"I told him I'd try it." She felt strangely guilty admitting it so she avoided Jacksons gaze by focusing on taking a sip on her drink. Jackson floundered for a moment. He didn't want Guerin to set herself up for hurt again but JB was a close friend.
"If he apologized then he'll be better this time." He said, nodding resolutely, "You can trust him."
Guerin was relieved with Jacksons understanding. Him vouching for JB's character set her more at ease, "Thanks Jackson. It feels good to hear you say that." She smiled softly at him.
He beamed back at her before changing his expression to overdone disapproval to match his scolding tone, "But you don't have to let just anyone stay at your house overnight. You should be more careful!"
She laughed in shock, "Oh my god!" She exclaimed in English, "Nothing happened! It was nothing!" She said defensively.
"Still. It looks bad. Next time send him home." He said petulantly.
"Whatever." She said in English again, tsking at his attitude dismissively. They argued playfully for a bit before the conversation flowed naturally in another direction.
JB and Jackson met for dinner later that evening. They caught up with light chatter about their current projects and Jacksons upcoming schedules in China. Their discussion was light and friendly, with a lot of laughter from the both of them.
"Guerin agreed to try recording for my new song." JB brought up amidst their discussion of projects.
"Hyung." Jackson said suddenly. JB looked up at Jackson while reaching for a bite of food, "You need to be nice to her this time." Jackson added seriously. JB hesitated, remembering seeing Jackson hugging Guerin after his blow up.
"Ah..." he didn't know what to say so he shoved some food in his mouth as he thought. Jackson waited. "I was wrong that time. I was a jerk. I won't do it again." He said resolutely.
"And you shouldn't spend the night at her house either." Jackson added seriously. JB looked at his friend with wide eyes, shocked.
"I saw Guerin today. She said you came over to apologize." Jackson said, "I know you meant well... but... I told you before I like her. So I don't like you staying there overnight."
JB finished chewing and swallowed, "Ah... about that..." Jackson looked at him inquisitively, "I didn't say anything before. I thought I could give it up. But I like Guerin too." He looked ashamed, "I tried to distance myself and I got upset and I took it out on her. So I decided I need to be honest with both of you. I'm sorry I wasn't honest from the beginning."
Jackson couldn't hide his surprise. A variety of emotions passed across his face rendered uncharacteristically speechless. JB waited patiently for him to recover. After a few moments Jackson looked resolute, "We can't help how we feel. Neither of us own Guerin or have a right. Regardless, you're my precious friend and nothing is going to change that."
"Waaahhhh." JB said, impressed. He offered his hand to his friend which Jackson took and they shook fondly, "That was cool." They grinned at each other.
"I'm still going to confess." Jackson said, widening his eyes and locking eyes with JB who chuckled at his friends comical expression.
"Yeah. I think I will too." JB responded.
"Don't spend the night at her house again though." Jackson pouted at JB.
"I can't promise that." JB said breaking the seriousness, turning his gaze to food and reaching for another bite.
"Hyunggg." Jackson caught onto the shift in the mood as he whined, "Don't be like this."
"Like what?" JB played innocent, chewing and opening his arms questioningly.
"Hyuuuunnngggg...." Jackson whined more, pouting with his full body, causing JB to laugh loudly and offer the barely younger man a bite of food to satiate his sulk.
"Thanks for helping me pick out some new makeup." Charlie smiled at Mark. The two of them were meandering toward the famous makeup district in Seoul.
"It's no problem! I don't have a shoot today and I like spending time with you." He responded with a smile, but had to look away at the last part shyly. Charlie blushed, unsure of how he intended the message but she was flattered regardless.
"I usually do really simple makeup but with our wrap party soon I wanted something a bit more flashy. I figured, you're a model, you might know what you're doing." She shrugged.
Mark laughed, "Well I usually have makeup done to me but lucky you I can do some as well."
The pair entered a shop and meandered through, with Mark making suggestions and offering feedback on Charlie's questions.
"I don't know if that color would look good on me..." she said dubiously eyeing sparkly purple eyeshadow.
"Sure it will. Pair it with this lighter shade, it'll complement your hair well and go with your pink contacts." He pushed. When she continued looking doubtful he pouted at her, "You said you wanted a bolder look, don't you trust me? You should at least try it."
"Okay... I'll try it." Charlie gave in to his cute expression.
Mark beamed, causing her heart to race. He really had an unnecessarily beautiful face. An unnecessarily beautiful everything. She blinked to clear her thoughts as he grabbed the sample eyeshadows. She reached to out to take them from him but he pulled away.
"I'll do it, so you can see what I mean." Mark said. Charlie hesitated then dropped her hand.
"Okay..." She couldn't think of a reason to not let him and just hoped she could cope with proximity.
"Close your eyes." He instructed as he opened the first shade. She obeyed and tried not to flinch as he applied the colors and blended them together. It felt like forever. He was so close his breath would wash across her face and neck. His touches were gentle but precise. Her mind wanted to wander but she locked that down as best she could. "Okay." He said finally.
Charlie's eyes fluttered open, she was surprised to still see him so close to her. He studied his handiwork then nodded, looking into her eyes with a proud close lipped smile, "It looks great on you."
She felt herself blushing again and turned away quickly with the pretense of finding a mirror. Locating one quickly she looked in and gasped, "Oh, wow that does look really cool."
"Thanks." Mark stepped up behind her, still looking proud.
"Alright I'll get these then." She nodded but avoided his gaze.
"Let's find a lip color to go with it. Maybe something more neutral..." Mark said thoughtfully before turning and wandering toward the lip section. Charlie took a couple breaths before following after him.
"Boy Howdy do I got news." Guerin said, slipping into the chair across the table from her friend. The two of them often defaulted to English when speaking with each other. Charlie looked up, from her coffee. She and Mark had gone their separate ways not too long ago. She had, of course, removed the makeup before leaving the shop.
"Same." Charlie sighed in response, leaning her head on her hand as she frowned at her friend.
"Oh? Tell me about it." Guerin leaned forward expectantly, curious about the news.
"I might be imagining things..." Charlie started, then fidgeted as she tried to piece together what to say, "Probably just wishful thinking..." she trailed off again.
"Spit it out!" Guerin urged, tapping the table to snap her friend back to attention.
Charlie groaned and covered her face, "I'm just thinking ugh! So... I think I have feelings."
"Oooohhhhhh?!" Guerin sat up with a grin and wiggled excitedly, "Who is the lucky person?"
"That's the problem. Well. One of them..." she started to trail off again before she caught Guerin's gaze again and forced herself to spit out, "I think I like two people. I think I like Jinyoung and Mark..." Guerin grinned and let out an appreciative sound but Charlie continued, "And I think... they might like me? But I'm not sure. And like... what could two such handsome men see in someone like me? I must be imagining it."
Guerin scoffed, "Yeah, what could two men see in a smart, fun, sweet, beautiful, strong woman like yourself. Absolutely ridiculous." The sarcasm couldn't have been laid on thicker.
Charlie forced one corner of her mouth up into what was supposed to be a smile but was more like a disbelieving grimace, "Thanks..."
"Don't you give me that face. Give yourself some credit. You don't have to believe everything I said, even if it IS the truth. But you have a lot of excellent qualities. What's not to like?" Guerin argued.
"Come on, maybe for an average person. But these guys are surrounded by incredibly beautiful people all the time. I am so plain in comparison. I barely wear makeup and my standard is hoodies and jeans." Charlie looked increasingly despondent as she spoke.
Guerin frowned, "You might not be a movie star but give these guys some credit. Hopefully anyone you like would be decent enough to not measure a person's worth by how glamorous they can be." Charlie still didn't look convinced, "Listen I can't make you believe me. I haven't met Jinyoung but I did meet Mark. I might have been having a bad night but even I could tell, ya boi was into ya."
Charlie couldn't help but chuckle at her friends earnest and goofy way of speaking. "If you say so." She suddenly looked up, determined, "Speaking of! Any news on that front?"
"Oh, yeah. Geez." Guerin launched into the explanation of JB coming over drunk that same night. At first she told the same edited version she had told Jackson but after finishing she hesitated.
"Well it's good that he apologized." Charlie narrowed her eyes at her friends expression, "Guerin you have no poker face. What are you hiding?"
Guerin laughed nervously, "I uh... well... while he was drunk... it kinda sounded like he was confessing feelings too."
It was Charlie's turn to coo at the juicy gossip. Guerin waved her hand dismissively, "Don't get excited. When he woke up he didn't say it again. He didn't even remember."
"Mmhmm." Charlie said, sipping her coffee like Hyungwon. Guerin rolled her eyes, uncharacteristically at a loss for words. "Sounds like you've got a love triangle."
"What? With who?" Guerin gasped.
"JB and Jackson." Charlie said in a sing song voice.
"Oh stop. JB was drunk and Jackson is friendly with everyone." Guerin shook her head.
"Mmhmm." She made another point of sipping her coffee with emphasis. "You make a big production of how every man should be in love with me and you can't even notice a puppy begging for attention and a drunk confession. Come on."
Guerin could understand her perspective but still found it unbelievable. She didn't voice her thoughts again.

September Song (2/3)
I’m sorry @kitten-wrath that this took so long, but I do hope you like it. @hoodoo12 @xerxezra thanks for brainstorming with me. Also, Ice Cream Rick belongs @porkchop-ao3. References to the flowers can be found here (The Language Of Flowers) and pizza rolls here (Sick Day)
Also, special thanks go to @her-victori for reading a majority of my fics in a short span of time. You Rock! As well to random anons who leave me sweet words in my ask box.
If you haven't read the first part of this fic then here's the link. (Read Part1 Here)
In this fic the reader tries to be more reserved and mature for Rick, but what will he think?
______
Chapter 2: These Precious Days
The mom and pop ice cream parlor which could be found at the edge of town offered over twenty flavors and twice as many topping options. Rick thought you'd prefer this quiet atmosphere over the crowd that would've surrounded Ice Cream Ricks truck in the Citadel; he was right. Though it really was a shame since Ice Cream Rick was actually pretty nice. After ordering, you two sat by the window with the best view of a lonely backroad and a white GMC truck.
“I-I-I like that you went for the rainbow jimmies.” Rick commented as he popped a mini gummy bear into his mouth.
“Hmm? Yeah, I like the texture.”
Which was true, but it wasn't the whole truth. You loved sprinkles on just about any dessert they could be placed on. They were fun, colorful, and your dad's favorite topping. They reminded you of good times. You continued. “And they're a classic. Wouldn't you agree?”
“I-I do. Would you say that y-your favorite flavor?”
Savoring the flavor of your chocolate ice cream, you nodded. “Yeah.”
Smiling softly, he seemed to be ruminating on this information, before storing it away and eating a spoonful of his pistachio ice cream. After a little while, he managed to get a bit of it on the side of his mouth, which made you giggle. And because old habits die hard, you picked up a napkin and wiped his face clean. Under your fingertips, his skin had that masculine roughness that came from constant shaving. Of course, you were familiar with it, but these slight reminders that came about by chance never failed to amaze you.
However, you were quick to pull your hand back because he wasn't a fan of public displays of affection, though it seemed to have the opposite effect, with him reaching out and placing your hand back on his cheek, and leaning into it. “I'm glad y-you were able to come with me today.”
Seeing as the shop owner was in the back room, you relaxed a little. “I am too.”
Rick was always a little funny when he got sentimental, which was why it didn't surprise you too much when his eyes bore through you as he said. “Me encanta estar c-contigo.”
“Rick,” you began, wanting to let this facade go and declare every single word of affection your heart felt inclined to say, but just as soon as you thought you were going to crack, you restrained yourself, and simply said. “your ice cream is going to melt.”
Several beats of silence passed, and he acknowledged what you had said, but he went on. “You - I-I sometimes wish I could carry you in my pocket, and have you look after me all the time, but th-that's silly isn't it? It's not realistic, and that w-would be selfish.”
“If it's you, then I don't think it is. While it wouldn't necessarily be practical to miniaturize me and carry me around, isn't the beauty of a relationship knowing that you're always on someone's mind and that they are out there somewhere caring and thinking about you?”
“Certainly, but what I-I meant to say is that it'd be nice if this was our life. If I could keep y-you and if you and me ugh - all th-the time…we - if we….” he faltered, fixing his eyes on something else in the room.
“You don't mean eating ice cream do you?”
With a sigh, he relinquished the hold he had on your hand, “N-no.” and continued to eat his ice cream; resigned, and slightly embarrassed. You couldn't help but feel a slight disappointment. It's not like he wanted to say the magic words. Right?
________
After ice cream, you two visited the bookstore on the corner of Kinder St and Lavue Ave; which had not only a coffee shop but a toy store connected to it. As soon as one entered into it, you were met with the latest best sellers, books on travel and wellness, as well as souvenirs; it was one of few places that didn't bother you if it was cramped. To your left next to the window were those mint boxes which said Adventure Awaits, and it filled you with gladness as picked one up; thinking of little things you'd put in it after all the mints were gone. For his part, Zeta-7 seemed to know exactly what he was going for, disappearing in the back where all the used books were. Not knowing whether to follow or look around, you just did as you pleased.
Past the Keychain holder, above the box of mini hands, you found a Mister Rogers mug. You loved that wholesome old man who used to teach lessons and play with puppets on PBS; Rick reminded you of him too. On the label, it said that when you added hot water to the mug, Mister Rogers would change from a suit jacket into his cardigan. Seeing as Zeta-7 hadn't returned yet, you decided to buy it and continued to look around until he soon returned with an older book in hand. “I-I-I hope I hadn't kept you waiting long.”
Facing the bookshelf, pulling out books that you were mildly interested in, you answered. “I knew you would show up eventually.”
Noticing the stack of books you had, he asked sweetly. “M-m-mi corazón, do you want me t-to hold those books for you? They look a-a little heavy.”
You weren't sure how long you could keep up this facade of being mature and not melting into a puddle everytime he said things like that, with him being as darling as he was. Nonetheless, you nodded and he lightened the burden on your arms.
“Wow,” he brightened. “I-I didn't know you liked Alexandre Dumas.” And picking out another book, he wondered. “Have y-you ever read this?”
“The Man In the Iron Mask? No,” you admitted sadly. “but when I was in high school I did read about a third of The Count of Monte Cristo. I even have a postcard that my old English teacher sent me from Europe that had a picture of one of the buildings that was used in the movie.”
“That's s-s-so cool. Do - do you enjoy classic literature?”
Wholeheartedly, you replied. “Isn't it the best kind?”
“I-I-I don't know,” he softened. “but I don't know what I'd do without them.”
You thought of his home library then, with its eclectic mixture of languages, colors, and topics, and it made you feel warm in your soul. “If your home library tells me anything, it's that you have a healthy appetite for books.”
He glanced at your lips after you said this, but made no attempt to follow whatever thought which might've come to mind. Instead, you two carried on a lengthy discussion on books, how many were a social commentary of the time period, and how they influenced the world you lived in. For once you didn't have to pretend you knew something you didn't, cause you did know. Quite intimately in fact. And within the small spaces between shelves and bodies, where you'd normally feel claustrophobic, you were safe amongst all the friends you had yet to meet amongst the pages, and with Zeta-7 whose warm words and tall body shielded you from the curious eyes of the cashier.
_______________
A stack of books sat quietly in the back seat of his car. Crickets chirped, and there were random feral cats here and there, but there was only you and him as far as you were concerned. September Song by Willie Nelson played on the car radio as he led you into a natural waltz next to the town lake, and moonlight reflected in his eyes. If you hadn't been so afraid of drowning, maybe you would've preferred to dance on the dock, but like this, it felt right.
Oh, it's a long long while
From May to December
But the days grow short
When you reach September
When the autumn weather
Turns leaves to flame
One hasn't got time
For the waiting game
With your head resting on his chest, he hummed along to the melody. More than once you heard a sniffle but assumed it was just Zeta-7 caught up in the moment again.
Oh the days dwindle down
To a precious few. ..
September, November. ..
And these few precious days
I'll spend with you.
These precious days
I'll spend with you.
You thought every day spent with him was precious, and you had to admit that you weren't sure at the beginning of your relationship if it would've worked out, but you were glad that the both of you took a chance, and had been pleasantly surprised ever since. And after all this time, now that it was the fall again, you wondered what the next year and the year after that would be like; the possibilities are endless. However, your train of thought was broken when Zeta-7 stopped dancing and stood there; covering his face, wanting to disappear.
“Rick?”
“I'm - I'm sorry, but I-I-I-I can't do this.”
“Can't do what?”
“I-I-I can't pretend that everything's o-okay. Something's th-the matter isn't it?”
“No there isn't.” you denied.
“Then why are y-y-you so quiet? Are w-we breaking up? Are you - are you leaving me?”
You literally wanted to smack yourself for being such an idiot. “No! Why would you think that?”
Using his phone, he paused the music and passed a hand through his hair in an attempt to calm himself. “Y-y-you haven't been yourself all evening. I thought for a moment that maybe th-things were alright back in the bookstore, but you - I know y-you were holding back. I know how much you love books, and writing is y-y-y-your passion, but you were hesitant in sharing your opinions on either subject. M-mi corazón,” he pleaded, the lines about his forehead and mouth deepening. “please b-be honest with me. Is this it?”
“No, it's not.”
Your plan, which you thought has been working went horribly wrong. So much for trying to act like an adult for once. Man, you only wanted to entice him, which you somewhat succeeded, but because of your stupid games, you'd led him to believe that you were unsatisfied with your relationship. If anything, you were unsatisfied with how you handled this. “Believe me Ricky, you haven't done anything wrong. In fact,” you sighed, your chest aching from the bloom of anxiety. “you've only been sweet and charming. But I….oh, I was only trying to impress you.”
“Huh? Wh-what?”
“Exactly. Whatever I thought I'd accomplish, it…..I only managed to mess it up. Again. You probably wouldn't get it,” Or maybe he would, but you weren't feeling like yourself. “but sometimes I feel like all you did was pull me out of my little bubble so I could wreak havoc. I'm not any different from hundreds of other versions of me, am I? Cause, if I'm like them, then how did I end up with you? How did I get so lucky to be with someone so wonderful? I hope they are happy because I am with you.”
With a hand pressed over his heart, a single tear made its way down his cheek. “M-me too. I'm so happy with you.”
“Somehow, despite all my inadequacies, you want me. I mean, is it stupid to believe that I just wanted to be different from all those other copies? That I just wanted you to think I was mature?”
Zeta-7 looked at you with a wistful hope in his eyes.“No, it's - it's not stupid. You - you did that f-for me?”
“Who else dear honey man of mine? Maybe it can't be helped and I'll just be what I am,” you confessed. “but for a moment I wanted to be different. So I gave myself the look and didn't overreact. And most of all, kept my mouth shut so you wouldn't get bored of my rambling. I know I talk too much.”
“N-no, that's not - have I led you t-to believe you weren't good enough?”
“Not on purpose, but I can't help but feel that way sometimes. We both know I'm not that special. I mean, the only impressive thing I've ever done is eat 37 pizza rolls, and not kill the flowers you gave me. I'm so sorry,” you cried, “I'm sorry you got stuck with an idiot.”
He pulled you in for a tight embrace, smoothing out your hair. “D-don't ever say that.” he cooed. “You're - you're clever, lovely, and always give me something t-t-to smile about.”
“Anyone can do that.”
Pulling back a little, he gave your shoulder a squeeze and softened. “N-no, not at all. Y-you give away dreams, smiles, and kindness. You're reliable, and I-I can trust you. And there is no one in the universe th-that could compare t-to you when it comes to being the perfect woman. If anything, I'm th-the defect here.”
“No, you're perfect Ricky.”
Placing a lock of hair behind your ear, he continued. “I'm glad y-you think so, but this isn't a-about me. You - you dressed up today, in a-a elegant dress that I'd n-never seen before,” and pressing a kiss behind your ear, he whispered with a little gleam of pride in his eyes.. “wearing the perfume I-I-I made you. Smelling like a-a dream.”
Again, how anyone considered this charmer a doofus you'd never know. “I had been saving it for a special occasion.”
“Everyday with you is - is special.”
“Oh Rick. That's…thank you.”
Pointing at your feet, “And I noticed that you're closer t-t-to my height today, but your feet must be hurting by now. Would y-you like to take them off?”
Oh, your feet were screaming. And now that you weren't pretending, you slipped out of your shoes which made you lose about four inches. Picking up your shoes and shoes and dusting them off, he continued. “That must feel better. I-I-I had to wear heels for a case once. It ugh - it's not practical when y-y-you have to run.”
“Right? I don't see how other women do it, cause I can't. I'm not even sure why I own them. I should just burn those things.”
You'd say it was half relief, half joy that made him laugh wholeheartedly at this, and you didn't see how it could be so funny. You poked him and pouted, and he delighted in this. “See?” he chuckled, looking at you in that funny way he did from time to time.
“See what?”
“This. This is th-the girl I fell in love with,” he stated matter of factly. “the one who likes t-to be comfortable, speaks her mind and prefers those jeans with th-the rip on the side. Not to mention those graphic t-shirts. Or cute pj's.”
Your breath caught a little at this confession. How could the smartest man in the universe adore an impertinent person like you? Maybe the same way you could love the smartest man; you just do. In your girlish voice, you said. “I only wanted you to be proud of me.”
Holding you a fraction tighter, he pressed a light kiss to your temple and chuckled sweetly. “Y-you already do princess. Today y-you made an effort for me, and that's impressive, but honestly, I want you t-t-to be comfortable and dress up how y-you like. You as yourself is what impresses me, because you have s-s-so much spirit, and I - that's what makes y-you gorgeous.”
This time you didn't even try to hide your blush.
“Oh Rick, hearing you say that really does make me feel silly. Why did I do this to myself? What was I thinking?”
“I believe y-you're still trying to figure it all out like the rest of us, and I can't get mad at you for th-that because you're wonderfully human. You had good intentions, and th-that's what counts.”
“Can you forgive me?”
“I al-already have.”

I wish you would write a fic where... Grandmums Ana and Kamilah both judge Fareeha and Angela's parenting abilities (and spoil their grandchild/ren) Just Because They're Grandparents and oh god they haven't eaten yet?? Yes I know you're a doctor Angela but are you absolutely sure your child can't have This much chocolate before bed?
(I usually lose track of the prompts while writing and in this case, I only remembered the ‘spoiling’ part. lol hope you like it.)
-
Adelah was very, very happy and giggly on the ride back home. She always was after sleepovers at her grandmothers’, and with good reason. The little one had been pampered and doted on by Fareeha’s mothers ever since they first laid eyes on her, showering her with gifts and attention and all the love that they could give.
So that’s why when Angela opened Adelah’s backpack at home, it surprised neither of them that they found a toy plane, a teddy bear, and a box of sponge cake for the girl to munch on.
“What’s this, my dear?” Angela asked with a knowing smile, holding up the toy plane. Adelah merely giggled and held a finger to her lips, imitating Ana’s shush. Obviously the child hadn’t fully grasped the concept of a secret just yet. Or, at least, keeping a secret from the right people.
Fareeha sighed in defeat, then opened the box of cake. “They’re going to spoil her rotten,” she said, tearing off a little piece and delivering it into Adelah’s waiting mouth.
“That’s if we don’t do it first.”
“Oh trust me,” Fareeha said, feeding her wife a piece of cake as well. “If this was a race, they’d get a platinum medal.”
“Don’t you mean gold?”
“No, I mean platinum.”
-
“Ami…” Fareeha said slowly.
“It’s not me this time.”
“Mama.”
“She wanted one.”
Fareeha chewed on her lip, returning Kamilah’s unrepentant stare with an incredulous look of her own. She glanced back at 7-year-old Adelah, who was sitting on the couch, utterly engrossed in the new D.Game in her hands. It was a new handheld gaming device, endorsed by none other Hana ‘D.Va’ Song herself. In fact…
“Besides, Hana gave them to us for free,” Kamilah explained. “We didn’t have to spend a single cent.”
“That’s not the point, mama. You’re going to spoil her… Wait. What do you mean, Hana gave ‘them’?”
Fareeha watched her mothers exchange glances, then reach into their purses to fish out their own brand new D.Games. She stared at them in disbelief for a prolonged moment. “And…you didn’t bother to get me one?”
“Are you jealous, habibti?” Kamilah asked, wry smile curving her lips.
As Fareeha sputtered out a denial, Adelah hopped over to Ana and Kamilah, taking a seat between them.
“Let’s check on our farms, little one,” Ana said, switching her device on along with Adelah. “And let’s go steal your mimi’s crops.”
“Don’t you dare,” Kamilah warned, powering up her own D.Game as well, leaving Fareeha to slump back into the armchair.
Within the next week, Fareeha received a package in the mail, which she opened to find one blue and one white D.Game inside. Two notes accompanied the devices.
One’s for you and one’s for angel mom. Have fun, Captain. ;p - Love, Hana
We love you too, darling daughter. You can stop being jealous now. - Ana (& Kamilah, but I’m the one who got Hana to send you these. Just FYI.)
-
“Nana!” Adelah ran towards the two, who had just walked out of the arrival hall. She pounced, arms clamping around them in a bear hug. “Mimi!”
“Look at you!” Ana exclaimed, ruffling the teenager’s hair. “You’re so tall now!”
“I missed you two,” Adelah said, looking at them both. “Who the hell goes on a one year honeymoon?”
“Your grandmothers, apparently,” Angela drawled, stealing Kamilah away for a hug.
“It’s not everyday that we renew our vows,” Kamilah argued.
“Or go for year-long honeymoons,” Fareeha said, drawing her mothers in for an embrace.
“It was a vacation,” Ana deadpanned.
“And now we’re back.” Kamilah smiled as she smoothed the curls on her granddaughter’s head. “Have you eaten, Ade?”
“Nope.”
Ana gasped. “What is this neglect?” She shot her daughters a judgmental look, and tugged on Adelah’s arm. “Come on, darling. What do you want to eat? Now that we’re back, we’re going to pamper you silly.”
“Well I missed your food…”
“Then we’ll cook,” Kamilah declared, holding onto Adelah’s other arm.
“Mama, you just got back…” Fareeha said, voice trailing off when Kamilah held up the bag in her hand, opening it to reveal the cache of drugs - chocolate, actually. But to Adelah - who inherited Fareeha’s sweet tooth - it was as good as drugs.
“You’re the best, mimi!”
Fareeha shared a look of resignation with Angela. They had a night with a hyperactive teenager to look forward to. With any luck, Ana would show a little restraint and not join in the sugar high.

“Mama, don’t go too fast. You’re getting old…” Fareeha tried and failed to suck her words back in, deflating like a balloon under Kamilah’s wide-eyed stare.
“Old?” Kamilah repeated, feeling utterly offended. Her eyes never left Fareeha’s as she shoved the helmet over her head.
“Mama…”
“Relax, dear,” Angela muttered next to her ear. “You’ll only make her want to drive faster.”
Fareeha clicked her tongue - softly, of course. She didn’t want to risk the chance of being overheard by her mothers, who were getting onto their respective quad bikes on either side of Adelah’s. Her daughter was already sitting in place, ready to ride off with Ana and Kamilah across the sands. After a countdown from Ana, the trio sped off without a second glance at the women still standing beside their quad bikes.
“I think our daughter is slowly becoming theirs,” Fareeha joked, putting on her own helmet.
“She is their granddaughter after all,” Angela replied with a smile. After 20 years of marriage, she had picked up the Amari brand of humour. Whether that was a good or bad thing, Fareeha was still undecided.
Angela tugged her close, whispering, “Why don’t we let them have their granddaughter for tonight, hm?”
Fareeha watched her wife’s smile turn sly, and broke into a crooked grin of her own. ‘Humour’ was not the only thing Angela had picked up, it seemed.
-
“What?”
“I want to bring nana and mimi on a vacation,” Adelah said.
“And not your own parents?” Fareeha asked, causing a sheepish look to pass over her daughter’s face, and her wife nudged in her side. A glance at Angela and blue eyes twinkling in amusement, and Fareeha felt an urge to laugh.
“Well… I’ll bring you in the future. But I just want to do this with them now. You know, after everything they’ve done…”
“Your mama’s joking, Ade,” Angela told her. “Of course you can. But do you need any money from us?”
“No!” Adelah said quickly. “I’ve saved enough.”
“Alright then.” Fareeha cocked her head. “Just make sure you take care of yourself, and your nana and mimi. Don’t-”
“I’m 25, mama,” Adelah reminded her.
“So? Your nana’s over 80 and she still acts like a child.”
“I’m going to tell her that!”
“And your mimi will agree,” Angela said.
“True. So I can go?”
“Sure.”
“Yes!” Adelah grinned, leaning forward to peck her mothers on the cheek, before picking up her phone. “Hello, mimi? Guess what…”
Fareeha sipped on her tea at the kitchen counter as Adelah walked out, gushing to her grandmother on the line.
“We’re lucky, no?” Angela said.
“Hm?”
“After all that pampering, and she never turned out spoiled.”
“She has good mothers, my dear,” Fareeha crooned. “We taught her discipline.”
“Right…” Angela drawled. “And you never slipped her a chocolate bar before bed. Ever.”
“That was only once…”
“Every month.”
“If it makes you feel better,” Fareeha said. “We shared those bars.”
“I know.” Angela chuckled, then planted a kiss on Fareeha’s pouted lips. “Want to know a secret?”
“Yeah?”
“I give her cookies before dinner.”
