#like it's just the same as yankees versus mets fans or any other fundamentally harmless sports rivalry out there

while we're rolling our eyes at the verstappen fans in the notes of this point i will fruitlessly vent my spleen for the one billionth time about how. beyond tedious. that whole standom is.
like i could quote you a million well-respected thinkers looking at a million different instances of abuse of power — all mainstream too, like, bell hooks — who all still return to this abuser's fallacy that harm experienced outweighs harm done. especially absolute blindness, denial, entitlement to harm done. it's incel logic, occupier logic, beat-your-wife-and-kids logic.
but suddenly we're talking about max fucking verstappen and all that goes out the window. the man was and remains a literal, physical risk to the safety of those around him. and no one cares. no one cares because it's their blorbo. which to me says pretty clearly that you do not actually care about abuse or sport or masculinity or anything going on with him, on top of absolutely clearly not caring at all about anyone else's safety or dignity, either with, again, the literal other human beings he works around that have to just absorb his bullshit or the other fans who have to bear witness to it all. it's just sad. it's just sad that this thing happened but now we can talk about it whenever we want a bit of cathartic sympathy going.
maybe it's sympathy. maybe it's a genuine, deep connection with his experiences, and that still does not justify the objectification of his abuse, nor how its aftereffects continue to radiate outward from him. like. that's the whole fucking thing about having any awareness about abuse! that it does not just affect you! but who gives a fuck! blorbo sad!!!
i saw a post the other day being grateful that verstappen hate has cooled and it so. enraging. that they all have no fucking clue that they've just worn down people who care about racism and violence. you proved a lot of people's fears about their own vulnerability and the apathy of those around them true. like. congratulations. fuck you all. goddamn.

and yeah that's before we get into the whole This Is An NBA RPF Post of it all. it's been well established that most of y'all couldn't be paid to care about the lives or wellbeing of black people but again just like. cringe levels of obvious about it. tbh.
Something i find so fascinating about sports is when a guy is like my dad was actually legit abusive but it made me the player i am today so i really respect his decision to abuse me. Like well ok do u want to talk abt anything
#also mad forever that the people who actively established this fandom environment get to dodge anyyy accountability for the shit they pulled#even the people who have a grasp on The Verstappen Situation can't quite bring themselves to really grasp What His Fans Did. its effects#like it's just the same as yankees versus mets fans or any other fundamentally harmless sports rivalry out there#we can all just quietly move on and i'll keep making it awkward every time i say out loud that i was meaningfully hurt#because lord knows. surely the nice middle class+ fandom ladies would never do anything viciously racist. they're just so nice and talented#surely. surely no Dynamics at play there. none at all. there is no need for higher analysis of a situation if A White Person Is Sad#f1#literally locking jalen brunson and lewis hamilton in a room to Talk Abt their daddy issues would be. something. but no! just max! forever!#sorry mateo you now have a verstappen essay on ur post
