headcanon for the life is that the machine gave reese a number that would lead him to bear the dog, knowing that he wouldn't even hesitate to take him home, and reese immediately having the same thought when he meets bear

#headcanon the machine was like. i don't want this to happen to my admin again #i can see how helping this person can lead to a dog who can protect him in the future.#like it can't per se so it bent its programming enough to do something like reese later tells it to #as long it's own way of trying help #in order to find root but maybe as a less conscious thing #it doesn't want finch getting hurt again so it finds a way of getting him someone who will be able to guard him in the future #also the parallels between reese the trained military fighter trying to be a good guy and save people #and bear the trained military dog that can absolutely take someone down but is also still just a sweetheart #and they both immediately attach themselves to finch and help him make me want to cry #headcanon that reese was lying about his apartment having a no dogs policy so that finch would keep bear #because reese knows that finch is going to be shaken after what happened with root and would probably need bear to feel safer #as evidenced by the fact that finch took bear when he left for the first time to go help reese but panicked and went back #and then he warmed up a lot more to bear. who isn't a service dog trained for that kinda thing but dangit he's a good puppy :(#god this show #person of interest #bear the dog #john reese #harold finch #michael emerson
