#ok yeah i had a feeling the freakouts were overblown lmao
i know we've been saying this about every new shitty update but i feel like removing reblog chains could really be the thing to kill this site. like that is literally the main thing that makes tumblr unique
#tumblr#yeah that's what i thought#personally i think it should be the middle of posts that gets collapsed?#like idk what minimum length they're planning to collapse but i feel like 5+ parts of a post (OP + 4+ comments) makes sense#show the OP and the first comment + [expand post] + the most recent two comments in the chain#so you see enough of the post to recognize it as something you've seen before#then you don't have to scroll past a million paragraphs#then you see that the most recent couple comments you have also seen before so there's nothing new you're missing#or conversely you see that you DON'T recognize the newest comments so this version of the reblog chain is either different or longer#so that's when you expand the post to see what's new#like i agree that reblog chains are the backbone of the site#but yeah i would actually be in favor of not having to scroll past the same eighty-seven paragraphs#to get to the end and realize this is the exact same post i have seen four times this morning and thirteen times this week#if i want to reread the post i can! but sometimes that's not going to add anything to my day and i would in fact be just as happy to skip it#so yeah i think this sounds like a great idea and i'm perfectly happy for staff to experiment with it
