don’t have that much free time, just disappointed that people aren’t m not reading some classics because of how they’ve aged doesn’t bode well for any kind of literature

yeah i get that but you're monologuing at the wrong person buddy. i Do read classics. that's why i was making fun of them. honestly im not sure where you got the impression that i needed to be convinced to do that

#i dont even disagree w ur main point lol like wrt to reading classic scifi youre preaching to the choir #but also i hope you realise that 'if you are comfortable in your views you shouldn’t be bothered by reading something poorly aged'#is a fucking wild thing to say.#being 'comfortable in ur views' doesn't make u magically immune to being affected by egregious sexism/racism/ableism/etc #(which is what the 'poorly aged' thing in question here is.)#most ppl don't have control over that??? and actually i would argue that you probably /should/ be at least a little bothered by prejudices #/and/ should be capable of viewing and interpreting them within their proper cultural/historical context.#they are not mutually exclusive!#like i will read the classic sf! but i will not gloss over the 'poorly aged' elements.#they can be incredibly alienating and i think it's entirely fair when ppl decide to avoid certain books bc of them #like. i hope you understand how shitty it can be to be constantly reminded the author doesn't really think of someone like you as a person #especially in a book you're reading for your personal enjoyment
