#like i get that it's partly an affectation due to a diagetic narrator and the princess-bride-like nature of the bit

it’s very funny to me that all of the narrator’s continued insistence that captain crow is evil and unfeeling, etc. are just sliding off because i think ruthless fictional women are cool.
#ssp1 spoilers#she's never experienced love? wrong. i love her.#'oh you can tell she has a conscience but doesn't listen to it. which is worse' ah but i think unhinged women have rights. you can't stop me#but more seriously: genuinely i think i don't like how blatantly the narrator is telling us how we're 'supposed' to feel about characters#like i get that it's partly an affectation due to a diagetic narrator and the princess-bride-like nature of the bit#but it's just missing the mark for me. like. to start with: the princess bride was funny#but also genuinely here i think i just feel a bit talked down to.#unless there's a subversion coming---and maybe even then---it feels insecure to have to tell readers how to feel instead of trusting them#i don't mean to complain about unexpected new book#and also obligatory disclaimer that this is probably a 'this isn't hitting. for me.' thing rather than a 'this is bad'#(i have wearied of sanderson as of late)#but yeah. no. i will see a pirate captain do unflinching murder and say 'is anyone going to love her' and not wait for an answer#if any of this doesn't make sense it's because i'm sick
