Literally the moment I pressed post on the last one, my doorbell rang to alert me to PAKIDGE
However, I’ve now been on the phone with Amazon customer service for 15 min (by the time I hung up the call, it was THIRTY-TWO MINUTES) because I noticed “hey those are ads and I specifically paid to NOT see ads… also this is a 16GB one and I definitely ordered the 8GB one”
And all the love to this poor support person but boy they do not have the best and brightest working the support desk because it feels like she’s willfully misunderstanding my problem
The conversation we had (under the cut) was MINDNUMBING and EXHAUSTING and you know who desperately needs the apparent services of this company I’m interviewing for to VASTLY improve their call center staff? Fucking Amazon. Jesus.
AND AGAIN!! They are probably fucking swamped (and also why I’m not receiving my NEW kindle until fucking Monday, which, hello, why bother ordering it at midnight then). And for a call center I know you basically just have to be a warm body who can follow a script. But man I am so frustrated with my first-world problem.
“I ordered X+Y and I got only A, which comes out to the same price, so I’m pretty sure the packages got mixed up before shipment”
“so you ordered a second kindle also on July 11th?”
“*facepalm* no, just the one.”
“Okay I can remove the ads on it for you for a $20 charge”
“uh no, I paid to have the ads removed”
“oh I see that here, okay, let me make sure we can get you a refund on that.”
“Wait before you do that, can we figure out why there are two kindles on my account??? This is the only one I have”
“okay so just go to the settings and read off the serial number”

“Oh that’s because I accidentally pressed the button to remove ads”
“[bruh.] okay, well, it says it’s restarting, so I’ll be able to get you that serial number soon”
“So it says here you ordered the 8GB without ads and the 16GB with ads”
“[BRUHHHH] nope, just the 8GB one, I don’t know why I have the 16GB one here and registered to my account, because in my orders I only have the 8GB one, which says it was delivered today, which is actually the 16GB one that I’m calling you about”

“Listen I’m happy to return it [no I’m not, the correct customer service thing for the GIANT MEGACORPORATION AMAZON to do is to say “hahaha oh that’s okay, it’s our fault, we’ll let you keep that one, let me just delete the other one off your account, isn’t that weird!!”]”
“Okay great please deregister it from your account and let me get a return started for it, do you want a QR code?”
“…for what?”
“For UPS to ship it back, unless you’d rather have a printable label?”
“[I literally just got an email with a barcode in it to send back my kindle fire today from the Amazon lockers in Whole Foods but okay sure] okay, yeah, the QR code is better, then”
*I am on hold for literally ten minutes writing this post thinking wtf is happening for a QR code to be generated*
“Okay sorry for taking all your time ma’am, but since it was just received today, we couldn’t generate a QR code, and we’ll have to give you a printable label. the replacement device will be shipped to you by……… Monday”
“…sigh fine” [WHAT WAS THE POINT OF ORDERING IT IMMEDIATELY THEN]
“Is Monday okay for you ma’am??”
“I mean yeah it’s fine, I was just [white lie time!!] hoping to take it with me on a trip this weekend”
“Will you be able to receive it on Monday, ma’am?”
“Yeah. Monday’s fine.”
“Okay you should receive it by Monday, but you can use the other one in the meantime, since the shipping label expires in a week”
[bruh. I deregistered it. I’m not setting it up again, sending it back and then setting up a kindle for a THIRD TIME] “okay”

you know the only other solution is to get rid of ads on the internet altogether, which is just a good idea all around, or get rid of the monthly/annual subscription model for every single fucking product and app and everything i mean. it's getting a little bit ridiculous. just a tiny bit. this really isn't a tumblr problem it's the entire system :-)
As the staff post about ad-free tumblr continues to get thousands of notes telling staff to fuck off in the tags, I wanna remind you that this website's days are numbered. Tumblr is still unprofitable and by some modern-day miracle none of its acquiring companies pulled the plug on this money pit. But it will happen if it continues its trajectory.
Whether you like it or not, Tumblr needs to make money off you somehow in order to stay up. It either serves ads or asks for money to use it. This has been a paradigm on the web longer than many of you have been alive. It's Tumblr's job to make money right now because it's well past its grace period of being a black hole for cash. This has actually always been Tumblr's job, since it is a corporation, but that's capitalism for ya.
If you want Tumblr to be here for free and you want to continue to use it, you do yourself a disservice by opposing any changes Tumblr makes in order to pay for its costs. When this site finally goes belly-up then you're gonna be Tumblr-less until whatever startup takes its place and the cycle repeats itself.
If you think it should just ask for donations Wikipedia-style, remember that if and when that happens, there will be users repeating the same tired bullshit about giving Tumblr any money.

So my sister recently got a smart TV and she's called me and said she wants me to come help her "set it up." What she actually means is that she wants me to come login to Hulu and Netflix (because the cable guy already made sure that both the cable and Wi-Fi are connected).
I've explained to her that accessing my streaming sites is just a matter of entering my email and password. Like literally! Hit the source button on her remote, hit okay on the Netflix icon, and put in my email and password. The Hulu icon hasn't shown up right away, so she'll need to hit the source button on her remote, then hit okay on the search icon on the right hand side, type "hulu", and if the icon shows up, enter my email and password. If the tv can't pull it up, she can go through her blu ray. Find the damn icon and enter my email and password.
She said she doesn't feel comfortable. So I said I would walk her through it over the phone.
Her response? "I want you to come do it because I don't wanna mess anything up." Wtf She knows how to hit a damn icon and enter email/usernames and password!
I'm so irritated.
It's one thing for someone to not know how to do/use something- If I know how, I'll teach them. If I don't know how, I'll find out and then show them too.
It's another thing when they don't want to learn! If I learned it THEY CAN TOO omfg.
It's even more aggravating when they know how but won't try on a "new device/site" even though it's the same fucking process! She's had a smart tv before, granted the set up was a little different in that she controlled everything with her cell, but it was still "tap the damn icon, enter a login and password" for initial setup.
So now I'm supposed to drive 30 minutes away to literally tap source, ok, directional arrows a few times, ok, directional arrows a few more times, ok. ????
I think I'm even more irritated because this isn't the first time we've been through this. I can't remember if it was showing her how to use the Kindle on her phone versus the computer, or maybe it was her Amazon account overall. Whatever it was, she was always wanting me to log into a thing for her so eventually I had her do it herself and she was fine. But when she went to the other device she was acting all brand new and kept wanting me to do it for even though I was like 'it's the same process...' I remember her being pissed as fuck at me because I wouldn't just do it for her. I kept telling her that she's going to have to learn to do it anyway -- because who wants to have new shit and be unable to use it-- so I'm not going to keep doing it for her. I would/will answer whatever questions she had but *she* was gonna have to do it.
So what's probably going to happen is I'll stop by her house the next day I happened to be on that side of town, because I refused to make an extra trip over there for this, and still have her do it herself. She's going to be pissed but it's either that or she's never learn to work her own tv.

My Review: 
Not great, but the best we’ll probably ever get which is sad. I’ve watched Masterpiece for decades now so I was super excited to get this book. I’m not sure what I was expecting, not what we got, but it’s not an entirely bad read. I wish it was more of an in-depth look into the productions, there’s fifty years worth. This book does go into some details about certain series, a few classics but much more about certain recent programs. I love Downton Abbey, but Masterpiece is much more than that show. I can forgive a few grammatical errors here and there, or the non spaces between words, but this book is littered with them. Did they not proof read or edit this book before publication? The biggest crime this book commits is the abundance of factual errors. Like the plot lines of certain programs, character relationships, episode counts, years, and so forth. It literally takes two minutes to fact check this stuff. Diehard fans are gonna take notice of those errors. I also hated how they crammed the few photos they had to the back of the book. It’s visually unappealing. I wished the photo was on the page when the program was talked about. With countless photos of the program Sherlock out there this book decided to go with a DVD cover. Completely lazy. Happy I didn’t pay $30 for this, only $0.99 for the Kindle version when it was on sale. Honestly not worth more than that. To be fair this book has interesting elements, just not enough to save it from being a disappointing read.

i deleted the questions that i didn’t know what were about so the numbering is all off eh who cares
1. coke or pepsi: i don’t like any kind of coca cola flavoured soft drink regardless of what it’s called
2. disney or dreamworks: i don’t think i could accurately identify a dreamworks movie without looking it up first. i don’t particularly care about who made what. i do like a lot of animated movies though (i’m forever crying about the fact that rise of the guardians isn’t on finnish netflix. no i do not know who made that movie.)
3. coffee or tea: hot chocolate
4. books or movies: books
5. windows or mac: windows, i don’t like macs much. my current laptop is a chromebook though. i have mixed feelings.
6. dc or marvel: both? i have read far more marvel comics than i have dc, and i do like (most of) the movies and the netflix series, but i also really like the flash, legends of tomorrow and supergirl (esp supergirl!), so...i’m not really fussed either way. 
7. x-box or playstation: i’ve never even seen an x-box with my own eyes. playstation i like! i wish i had one.
8. dragon age or mass effect: neither. i don’t play games. see: i don’t own a playstation.
9. night owl or early riser: neither? staying up late is pretty boring and i like sleeping. my sleeping patterns change depending on what my daily routine is. i have no problems getting up early if that’s what i have to do.

15. beach or forest: forests actually terrify me. beaches...well, depends. i don’t like sunny summer beaches much (esp if crowded with people), but i love the sea and seaside.

17. clear skies or rain: i don’t like Weather much to begin with because dressing for the weather is a pain in the ass, regardless of if it’s 30+ degrees or -18. i like the indoors best 80% of the time.
18. cooking or eating out: eating out, or alternatively somebody else cooking for me. i just cannot be arsed with cooking. i love cooking for other people, but for myself it’s just so much effort. i love eating out because delicious food made for me to my specifications by somebody else? sign me the fuck up.
19. spicy food or mild food: both! although i have a spiciness limit. if the food is so spicy that i can’t taste the actual food then it becomes pointless. (i do have a relatively high tolerance so i have to say though, at that level, spicy food gives me pretty serious appetite and digestion problems that persist for 1-3 days so i’d rather not over do it on spiciness...) i’m also picky about how the spiciness is achieved - various peppers have their own flavours and aren’t just BURNy and i do Not like jalapenos. they taste vaguely vinegar-y and acidity to me. no thanks. 
20. halloween/samhain or solstice/yule/christmas: er, halloween isn’t a thing here (aside from the commercialised version of it, which can die in a ditch). next weekend is fastelavn though, which i love. (i probably even love it more than christmas because my family usually gets together for buns, and it’s low-key and no-stress with zero expectations or anything, which is great. also buns.) i’m trying to figure out if i can be arsed making buns in the tiny shitty kitchenette here or if i just shouldn’t bother because i’d be eating them alone anyway
21. would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot: i am always a little too cold. by choice.
22. if you could have a superpower, what would it be:  i’d love to be able to teleport because fuck transport time and money, but honestly? i’d probably turn down any and all superpowers if i got the offer
23. animation or live action: both. though i’m pickier about animated movies than live action. 
25. baths or showers: showers! though i’d love to have access to a bath tub just because i really want to try one or two of the lush bath bombs. for the ~experience. (i generally don’t like baths, the water gets cold too fast and it’s boring just lying there.)

27. fantasy or sci-fi: fantasy! i like sci-fi too, but fantasy is generally where it’s at for me

netflix, because i actually use it more or less every day. youtube i only open every now and then to listen to music.
30. harry potter or percy jackson: harry potter. despite it’s problems and all the other shit that’s coming out, harry potter has been important to me in so many ways for so many years. whereas the pj books were just this random series i read one time and didn’t like much.
i actually actively hated the first two pj books. i vaguely started liking the series at the labyrinth book (book three? four? idk) but that has more to do with my thing for labyrinths than anything else (and iirc the labyrinth wasn’t even that well executed in the book? it’s been a while, i don’t remember. or care. but just. labyrinths as devices are fucking awesome.) i liked nico when he was introduced, who was like a little angry gay baby, or something, i wanted to protect him. (when i later found out that he is actually gay and i wasn’t just projecting, it made me happy), and if iirc i liked the last book of the first series. i haven’t read anything else, because i just...can’t be arsed. sorry. i mean, i do kind of want to know how my little gay son nico is doing, but do i want to sit through another five books or so of frankly mediocre writing to find out? no i don’t.
31. when you feel accomplished: when i finish writing a story. other times too, but mostly from writing. it’s just really satisfying declaring something finished. 
32. star wars or star trek: i don’t really care either way. 
33. paperback books or hardback books: paperbacks. they’re smaller, which means i can cram more of them into my apartment, and cheaper, which also means i can afford more of them. i can appreciate a pretty hardback, but i generally think they aren’t worth it. big, heavy, unwieldy and expensive. nah. i’ll take a paperback any day.
34. to live in a world without literature or without music?: i could live without music, but if you want to take literature away from me you might as well just kill me and get it over with.
35.  what’s one thing you hope to accomplish in life?: i don’t know??? i’m more or less a day to day person, and i’d very much like to get a stable, permanent job (and income) right now. that’d be grand. like yeah sure i’d also like to become a published author some day, or get a phd, or travel to certain places and learn more languages, but those are all??? so uncertain?? like i can’t actually spare the headspace to try to make all of them of happen. i just want a job please.

39. piercings or tattoos? i don’t have any strong opinions. i have my ears pierced and i’ve been planning to have my lip repierced ever since i had to take the piercing out (cheesegrater effect) (six years ago?) but that never happened, and now i don’t care. i’d like to get tattoos someday but until i can settle on a design or placement i don’t think it’s going to happen.
40. physical book or kindle? both, except i don’t own a kindle and never will. i have an ipad. it does have the kindle app on it, for the rare occasions all i can get is a .mobi file, but i actually prefer to buy my ebooks off Kobo because they are not amazon (their reading app is also great! i like it so much better than the kindle app) or directly from the publisher (in which case i’ll open the .epub in the ibooks app already on the ipad). the ibooks app is p great as is as well, i can’t complain. i also have a bluefire reader for DRM protected ebooks (mostly relevant while i was still at uni and would download time sensitive and DRM protected academic articles and books from databases with restricted access) and an account with Bookmate (digital library).
paperbacks are easier on my eyes, especially in the evenings, but i have about 100 books on my ipad at the moment and i really, really appreciate that given that i currently don’t have space for that many physical books.
41. fantastic beasts or cursed child: are we talking fantastic beasts the book or the movie? because i don’t think i’ve read the book. i’m pretty sure i don’t even own a copy. i also haven’t read the screenplay for the movie. the movie was ok. i had a few big problems with aspects of it, but others were p cool. as for cursed child i haven’t read it and will likely never get the chance to see it either. 
42. rock or pop music: both? sort of ? i have a wide but picky taste in music, across several genres and subgenres of pop, rock and metal. but i wouldn’t say that i like a whole genre...because there’s so much i don’t like. <.<
43. big cities or small towns: both tbh. i come from a small town (less than 4k inhabitants) and i’ve lived most of my life in small towns and in the countryside. i like it, it’s quiet and there’s a different community feel that you don’t get in larger cities. but i’ve also lived in copenhagen for the past 7 years or so, and i’ve come to depend on a lot of big city conveniences. i’ve bought a flat in copenhagen as well, because lbr with my degree my job options are in the big cities, not in the countryside, so...

46: Favourite language (either to listen to, or that you can speak): that’s...not... i like (and dislike) languages for different reasons v.v 
i love finnish a lot because it’s a very systematic language (everything follows a rule, with very few exceptions), and because the logic of it is very spatial, if you can put it that way. the way finnish phrases a lot of things is by placing it in some kind of spatial context. it’s very logical to me, someone who’s very spatially and visually oriented in general, so it’s something that i just instantly understood and loved about the language (meanwhile my classmates were struggling because the finnish “way of thinking” is fundamentally so very different from the way scandinavian (and, i’d say, germanic) languages think.) and also i love it because i love grammar and finnish has so much of it, and so many exciting constructions and shit, it’s great.

Read, Read, Read
I’m extremely pleased to say that I’ve been reading quite a lot more recently. There was a time I would go through 2 or more books a week but that was a long time ago. Now, with work and other life commitments, it is difficult to find the energy and/or the attention span to fall into a book. It’s sad. I want to read more. I will read more. There is an indescribable delight that comes with brushing the world aside because you desperately want to know what’s going to happen to your protagonist. 
The books I’ve been occupying myself with recently are:
1. Educated by Tara Westover Well, I haven’t finished this, about 30% in. It’s quite unlike anything I’ve read before because it’s so easy and difficult to read at the same time. Westover writes in the way that makes you feel like you’re having a long chat with a close girl friend (hence easy to read) but there’s something so heavy about the content. Ominous, dreadful and foreboding. That’s what makes it difficult for me. Still a lovely read though. I will finish it. 
2. The Porpoise by Mark Haddon I’m a huge fan of Mark Haddon. I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time when I was in secondary school and loved it. (Monty Hall Problem anyone?) And I think I read A Spot of Bother in my JC days. Mark Haddon writes in such lyrical prose, it’s almost like he’s singing a song. And I really like how he makes the ordinary extraordinary. I was really excited about The Porpoise and I liked Haddon enough to not bother to find out what it was about before I purchased it on my Kindle. (Also an Influencer I follow on Instagram raved about it. I guess I trusted her opinion on it too.) Might not have been a good idea because there’s some serious WTF that I was not expecting quite early on. And while I love a good re-telling, I have never heard of the tale of Apollonius or Pericles before (my fault, not the author’s) so it made the re-telling less meaningful since I couldn’t draw parallels. 
While Haddon’s prose did not disappoint, I really struggled with The Porpoise. There were SO many characters and some of them were parallels of each other (quite literally) and Haddon jumped between different timelines and worlds far too quickly for me to catch up. I can’t say I hated The Porpoise but I will not say I loved it. Am not very sure how I feel about it to be honest. Great riveting storytelling but confusing as fuck. Yeah, that’s how I’d describe The Porpoise. 
3. Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman A collection of short stories by Gaiman. I LOVE Gaiman. Everything he writes is perfect. I read this when it first came out some years again but I’m re-reading it cos I can’t remember most of it. My favourite from this collection is A Calendar of Tales, a story for each month of the year which he wrote as part of a campaign with BlackBerry using prompts from twitter responses. IT’S BLOODY BRILLIANT. But as with all Gaiman collections, I find a new favourite every time i read it. 
4. The View From The Cheap Seats by Neil Gaiman Bought this several years back but never finished it because life happened. . Everything that comes from the mouth (pen? laptop? writing device?) of Gaiman is perfect. He reminds me so acutely why I love stories and why stories are so important. Please enrich your life with his wisdom. Everything Gaiman writes is perfect, that is all you need to know. 
5. Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman Picked this up again because I fell in love with the TV adaptation and wanted to re-live the magic that is Good Omens. It’s so delightful, a little cheeky and so incredibly smart. And funny. So. So. Funny. I will read this to my children in the future. This and Stardust. And maybe The Graveyard Book. I Love. 
Realised it’s quite a bit of a Gaiman binge but I have zero regrets. Gaiman for Life. I do want to read other authors more though. 
I’m waiting excitedly for Philip Pullman’s new title, The Secret Commonwealth, part of his Book of Dust trilogy. (Pre-ordered on Amazon I’M SO EXCITED!!!) and My Dark Vanessa by Kate Russell (also pre-ordered!!!!). but while future Nessa’s reading is settled, now Nessa’s impatient and wishes for more words to drown in.

So I've only watched the anime of this but it is literally fantastic! I can't ever find the manga which blows cause I want to know what happens next, but seriously I love the main 3 sooooo much. I just feel like their Dynamics work really well together in the story line! Feel free to talk to me if you want to gush about the awesomeness that is this series!
YESSSSS fellow lover of the series yesssss!!!! I’m so sad you can’t find the manga though :( I haven’t seen the rest of the anime so I don’t know for sure exactly where it ends.
But if it helps, based solely on the anime chapter titles, I checked against my physical manga copies and I think the anime goes through chapter 16 which is midway through volume 5. I don’t know if the anime jumps ahead or anything but that’s my best guess without seeing the rest of it yet. So if it helps, if it’s hard for you to find the manga in general, if you ever have the opportunity for some reason you will at least know where to focus your attention to try to find the continuation of the story.
I’m not sure what country you live in so I don’t know how prohibitively expensive this might be, but Barnes & Noble and Amazon both carry the series if you ever decide to buy them in manga form. You can also get the nook or kindle versions if you want, which are cheaper than the physical copies. They’re printed by Yen Press in case that’s useful info.
You also have some time if you need it... looks like vol 9 is set for English release on February 27, 10 will be April 24, and 11 is June 19, all 2018. 
Anyway I’m so happy you love the series too! It’s so frickin great and I genuinely was not expecting that when I picked it up. I also bought Are You Alice? at the same time and I mean, that isn’t terrible or anything, but I read it first and it was really hard to follow in the first volume. By the third it flowed better and I want to read more for sure but it didn’t get me super obsessed or anything. Then I read the two volumes I had of Aoharu x Machinegun and I was like WTF WHY IS THIS SO GODDAMN GOOD?!!! and I got OBSESSED with reading the rest and drove way the fuck out of my way to one of the most hated places I know with way too many people and the worst parking setup ever, and even started almost crying from frustration in the car trying to frickin be able to park, but it was all worth it in the end to run in and buy the other 6 volumes that currently exist lol
I agree that the main three characters have a great dynamic :) I like the dynamics of most of the characters. Midori is particularly interesting because of his personality but I don’t want to go too much into that in case the anime doesn’t cover everything. But he’s the sort of character who isn’t my favorite archetype but I still really like seeing on screen. For whatever reason, Hotaru is much more of my jam - someone who’s both nice and a bit psychotic XD Which actually also fits Midori, soooo... lol But Midori’s more twisted than Hotaru is. Like, Hotaru’s a good person who also happens to go berserk, so she’s trustworthy for sure but also a little unpredictable. Midori’s someone you can’t trust but, for me, you also can’t hate. It’s cool to see all the contrasts :)
It’s so funny because anime/manga manages to get me to give a shit about hobbies or events I otherwise would not care about at all. I saw on your tumblr that you also like Haikyuu!! omgggggg I LOVE HAIKYUU SO MUCH UGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH That’s one where I’ve only seen the anime and need to read the manga. I keep wanting to but it’s such a daunting task but mostly, I love the series so much that I’m torn on wanting to get up to date so I can be part of the community discussing what will happen next every time there’s a new chapter, vs the fun of having NO IDEA what will happen in the next anime episode and freaking out the whole time wondering how the season will end. Both are really enjoyable ways to experience a series but usually I get way too obsessed with something like I did with Aoharu and I race ahead in the manga after I find an anime I like, so the anime is almost always something that’s fun but a bit predictable for me. Still super great, super enjoyable, but I also know what will come next. So I’m torn for Haikyuu but we’ll see! Anyway I just wanted to say, I never in a million years would have thought I would get to a point where I love the hell out of a volleyball anime and a survival game series like what the heck XDD So far out of my usual realm of interests, it’s straight up ridiculous. But goddamn are both series amazing GODDAMN *_*
