not to overanalyse a tiny detail but there's something to the fact that jonathan doesn't comment on the cloak being thrown over his shoulders and the rug over his lap, and I wonder if part of it is just him expecting servants to see to his comfort in the cheerful obliviousness of privilege, except the other part of it is, well, the casual presumption of the coachman. another small one, harmless enough by itself, like dracula calling jonathan my friend in the letter.

but hey, maybe that wasn't as weird a move as it seemed to me. maybe that was a normal interaction for a driver and passenger at the time.
