ohhhh I love Sam & Cas so much and it’s the evolution that’s so great because hbo sam & cas starts out like [cas peering at sam with his true form’s thousand eyes] [studying the way the demon blood’s slow corruption spreads inside sam’s cells] [cas finding sam high in clubs and bars and dragging him back to bobby’s] [sam throwing up every time cas heals him] [trying to hide the way grace burns him on contact] [the two of them getting falling-down drunk together throughout half of season 5] [dean aggravated as he forces water and painkillers down their throats] [cas calling sam an abomination but with such aching tenderness in his voice that the word becomes an endearment] [cas in Hell, his true form singed and blistering as he reaches through the Cage bars to grab sam’s wrist]

and it ends up like [quiet moments driving through rainy nights in silence] [neither of them sleeping while they track down demon dean] [sam yelling sumerian and sanskrit and coptic phrases across the bunker to cas because it’s faster than looking up a translation] [cas coughing up blood as his stolen grace sputters and flickers in his chest] [sam nearly dying after he nicks an artery trying to perform a restoration ritual] [half-season arc of the two of them hunting down cas’ remaining grace] [cas walking past sam’s bedroom and getting dragged into the nightmare sam is having about lucifer] [both of them screaming awake in unison] [cas flinching when he notices that sam’s eyes are tracking his ruined wings] [late nights spent pacing back and forth in the library] [muttered conversation in a slurry of english and enochian] [sam with red eyes and whiskey on his breath] [curled in a chair trying to slow his own breathing] [cas pressing his lips to sam’s brow] [telling him that he’s not unclean] [that he’s never been unclean]
