A relieved, and somewhat surprised, breath huffed from Sasuke’s lips. A small smirk tugged at their corners as he felt a wave of pride wash over himself. His concentration was broken, but that was okay. The technique was already executed anyway.

He knew the benefits of practicing meticulous chakra control, but he tended to take a more aggressive approach to his training. He would squeeze every ounce of energy from his body to drill the techniques into his psyche. He worked his body sore and his mind raw. He never realized how a gentle approach could change things. Here, the results that he would spend a week drilling into his body were seen in less than a day. That was thanks to Ryuu’s guidance. Gathering natural energy and using it to fuel his techniques required such a different approach, and he was starting to think he might really enjoy this. To take a step away from the anger and frustration that fueled his determination was refreshing. He could get used to this space of serenity.

He glanced over at Ryuu, who noticed his soft smile, and she beamed at him. The admiring gaze caused Sasuke’s chest to puff up a bit, enflaming his sense of pride in himself. Next thing he knew, her voice was almost right up against his ear as she innocently leaned close to him.

“Good job,” she praised. “You’re really special, Sasuke.”

When he glanced sideways at her, the look in her eyes was so genuinely rich with pride that it caused Sasuke’s cheeks to get hot. He leaned away from her, and she took that cue to lean away from him too.

“Better than you ever thought you’d be, right?” she commented, winking at him. Then, more seriously, “Let’s go again. This time, don’t get so excited that you break your concentration.” She nudged him with her elbow playfully before stepping away and prompting, “Whenever you’re ready.”
