y'know, i think i'm always gonna be pissed off at how the extremeness of the "bad" DID fakers online, skewed everybody's leniency with what they consider "healthy" these days.
even on a subreddit like systemscringe that's dedicated to pointing out the absurd misinformation people spread, i get downvoted sometimes for pointing out stuff that absolutely isn't normal, because the misinformation has been spread so far that people just assume it is. just now i had to explain to a thread of replies to one of my comments that "fictives", in fact, is not an official term. that used to be common sense.
stuff like that is why i'm so passionate these days about pointing out shit that most people go "ah, well, it's not the biggest issue at hand, who cares" at. eventually someone's gonna start spreading it like it's the truth, and the scales will tip even further from reality. rinse and repeat. like, no rational professional would ever recommend someone genuinely use plural pronouns to refer to themself when the person already is at risk for worsening depersonalization upon finding out about their parts, but somehow this is just accepted in DID spaces as something perfectly harmless and even positive. it doesn't "acknowledge your parts", it sets you apart from them. they're all still you, for fucks sake. you just feel different because that's literally what the disorder does.
you see my point? sure, small insignificant things don't do that much damage, but it adds up. this is why we (as a society) now see "systems" that don't even have the slightest similarity with the actual recorded cases you see in papers. now, even the most non-corrupted cases you see online have some form of factitious behavior added to it, because that's become the new "standard." people with DID are inherently suggestible, and they will adapt to conform and stay safe; that's how the disorder works. the problem is that this will happen even in the DID-dedicated spaces online, where people just slowly spiral into more and more absurd behavior, adapting to others' absurdities. you can't even tell people to get away from the DID communities online, because the urge to find other people to relate to is always too strong, and too many advertise themselves as "reliable" when in reality they just engage in lesser, but still problematic behavior. don't even get me started on r/DID spreading pro-RAMCOA bullshit as their most reliable source on DID, that they readily give as the first resource for freshly diagnosed people. it's horrifying.
