you know what, i wonder if romance on the farm will eventually be about the younger generation rising up and finding their own freedom/chance to be an individual. dissatisfaction among the lian family's grandchildren is a pointed theme that keeps coming up— man'er and her struggle with the household justifying every point of conflict as 所有的都是为了一家人, ye'er being the one ignored and doing the most around the farm but wanting to be more (just not knowing how), and hua'er with her engagement that everyone thought was going to be a wonderful, hopeful thing but is actually bearing rumours about her being stuck in a stifling marriage from the moment of ceremony itself. it extends to characters like youheng too, in how his father won't let him study medicine even though it's his passion. i think they're building up to a theme here and i wonder how it'll unfold
