Something I always find particularly stupid about this is how there's barely any pattern to which sports are considered 'women's' sports and which are 'men's' (aside from the ones decided to be for women ultimately being considered less impressive) like. They'll say certain sports are unsafe for women and then have a sport that's 'better for women' that's just as dangerous???

When I was in school pe classes were still split by gender and it was always very obvious that there was just no logic to which sports were allocated for girls and which for boys. They had the boys playing basketball and the girls doing netball. Then boys did rugby so girls did hockey (the kind we play in the UK not the Canadian kind. There's no ice involved but full contact hockey is most definitely not a safe sport lol especially not when you let teenage girls play. Pent up teenage rage + a wooden stick and a very hard ball leads to many injuries.). It was always sports where saftey wise whatever you could say for one you could say for the other. Cricket vs rounders. Football vs volleyball. It honestly just made no sense and yet still they were determined to maintain this bizarre gender divide and would never let the boys class play the 'girls sports' and vice versa.

crazy that in the 1970s they were like, "fine, women can play sports. but because they're innately less athletic than men, only in a special ghettoized League For The Frail And Delicate where they get paid less 😊". And not only is that still the system in 2023, but viciously lashing out at the smallest challenges to that system gets framed as Feminist Praxis
