#let me say 'Toaster - Mark's toast' or 'Toaster - Level 5' and the bread I put in earlier pops down while I'm busy cooking

The thing is that a lot of these would be helpful. A lot of this tech is great. Let me feed my cats if my meeting goes late or I don’t want to swing home. Maybe I don’t want it on a timer for reasons, maybe they need meds and this is the backup, maybe I just like feeding my cats and I’m thrilled I can ‘feed’ them when I’m not there. Whatever, it’s a neat thing. BUT it needs to be reliable. None of these are really tested, their QA is laughable.
There is no reason we can’t have fun neat stuff! There is no reason all our neat stuff should be so breakable, so unfixable, so obsolete.
I still wouldn’t connect a car to the internet. WTH guys? I’s a car. That’s not “it doesn’t really need it” but “it’s very dangerous to require it.” Can you image if that happened in a tunnel? Or on a steeper incline? Bad weather?
Welcome to the future, where you don’t own anything and the stuff you rent stops working once your phone has no signal.
#I'm tired of always being defensive around technology#if I live in a family house it'd be great if the toaster had a setting for each of us if everyone liked it toasted differently#let me say 'Toaster - Mark's toast' or 'Toaster - Level 5' and the bread I put in earlier pops down while I'm busy cooking#or just being able to say the brownness you want without having to fuss with how brown that is#just little nice things#and yes it'd be nice if I could connect that if I'm visiting elsewhere#though I should need to okay the connection and the cloud of toaster settings doesn't have 'Mark's toast' saved#technology should be serving humanity#though I probably want more 'blue tooth' like technology and less 'internet' like technology#pretty sure with blue tooth you always have to connect devices so that's a level of control
