Madhubala (Mughal-e-Azam, Barsaat Ki Raat, Mr. & Mrs. '55)—The Venus of India; heart-throb of all who saw her; responsible for the sexual awakening of every single desi lesbian I know (including me!) And my god, she is breathtakingly beautiful. Look at the subtle grace with which she moves, and that smile - the kind of radiant smile that can make you laugh with sheer delight, or cry because of its hidden pain. Those wild curls! That Cupid's bow! The way she tilts back her head and smiles at you with mischief dancing in her eyes! She has a way of looking at the camera that makes you feel she's sharing a private joke just with you; it's something about that quizzical twist of the lips and eyebrows. As an actress, she is inimitable; she seems to effortlessly inhabit roles ranging from a heart-broken courtesan to a laughter-loving socialite. Fun fact : she's had quite the fan following in Greece! Stelios Kazantidis even wrote a song as a tribute to her.
Ingrid Bergman (Gaslight, Casablanca, Notorious)—Where do I even begin with Ingrid Bergman? I fell in love with her with her astounding performance in the 1956 version of Anastasia -- the best Anastasia movie in large part due to her wonderful and touching performance. She's got this amazing, fascinating intensity to her in whatever role she's in. She commits 100%, and she's got this light in whatever she's in that's stunning. She's utterly convincing no matter what she plays, from an amnesiac possible lost princess, from a nun, from a woman taking her revenge on the town that wronged her, to light romantic comedy. She's never missed in any role I've seen her in! Also she became quite the MILF.
This is round 5 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

SHE'S JUST SO STUNNING, like seeing her eyes IMMEDIATELY CAPTIVATES YOU, THE DANCING, THE BEAUTY!!!!!!!!! She worked in Bollywood for over 20 years and passed away at a sad early age of 36, BUT THE IMPACT SHE HAD WAS UNMATCHED!!!!!
Tumblr media
That sassy sideways glance she does always has me WEAK AT THE KNEES. And when she's making silly faces at the camera to mimic someone ahhhh my gay little heart <3
Tumblr media
Ingrid Bergman:
Tumblr media
God, she's fantastic. She's both beautiful and a compelling actor who's more than capable of putting the whole movie on her shoulders if necessary. It's worth noting that while her beauty is conventional, she was seen as refreshingly "natural" with more eyebrows and less makeup than many other leading ladies of the time. She's well known for her role in Casablanca, but in Notorious, Spellbound, (both available on archive.org ) and Gaslight (1944) she shows how immensely capable she is.
Tumblr media
I mean...she's Ingrid Bergman. I feel like that should be enough, you know? She's physically beautiful (her eyes!) but watching her is like a transcendent experience. Her voice, her expressions... beautiful woman, beautiful actor.
I'm a gay man but even I understand her appeal. I'll watch any movie she shows up in. Gorgeous woman.
Just try and watch her movies without sighing wistfully, then get back to me!
Tumblr media
Choosing 1-3 movies where Bergman was at her hottest was agony because, of course, she was always at her hottest. Not just because she was beautiful but because she was absolutely willing to go up against the bs women in Hollywood were constantly dealing with. When exiled from Hollywood for having an affair with Roberto Rossellini, not only did she refuse to apologize at any point, but she went on to say that Hollywood's films had grown stagnant and boring to her. Though she said she appreciated her time working there, she wanted to try new, different techniques (hence starring in Italian neorealist films, working on stage, and acting under directors like Ingmar Bergman). She was not afraid to chase after her artistic ideals and go outside the box regardless of what society had to say about it. From her first movie to her last she killed it. There's so much more to say about Bergman's career and life, but I've already written five million words so I'll stop at that.
ion words so I'll stop at that.
Tumblr media
One of the most incredible actors I've ever seen on film. Her facial expressions are so intricate and poignant that I cannot look away. I'm either ace or straight, but damn she made me question that.
Tumblr media
SEVEN TIME OSCAR NOMINEE QUEEN. Girl also PULLED, having affairs with famously hot men Gary Cooper and Gregory Peck IN ADDITION to her three marriages...sexy
Tumblr media
She has a very natural beauty to her, and she's from Sweden!
She left Hollywood and only became more beautiful. You could drown in her eyes. She can look innocent AND like she's seen it all. She is effortlessly elegant. She's played Joan of Arc (automatically hot) AND was in the movie that coined gaslight as a term. And where would we be without that!
Tumblr media
She was known for being a breath of fresh air on the movie scene at the time with her windswept hair, dreamy smile and soulful eyes. I have loved her in every movie I have seen her in - she was just magnetic!
Where do I even start. There's a neighborly quality to this beautiful, talented actress that makes her hotness one of a kind and her looks impossible to forget
Tumblr media
With a career spanning five decades, Bergman is often regarded as one of the most influential screen figures in cinematic history. Known for her naturally luminous beauty, Bergman spoke five languages – Swedish, English, German, Italian and French – and acted in each.
She's hot, don't get me wrong, but I've always found her very approachable, like she could easily be a member of my friend group
Tumblr media
A lot of the time hotness in a movie is just about words and framing. "You're the most beautiful person here" [vaseline lens] well I sure hope so because that's who you cast. But when, in Casablanca, they call Ingrid Bergman the most beautiful woman in the world... they were not fucking lying. And such a dynamite actor too!! I'd only seen Casablanca up until last year, and there she's confined to love interest. But in Gaslight she was maybe one of the most incredible actors I've ever seen!!!! Goddddd shes so fucking hot and cool.

10 Favourite Series/Movies I watched in 2022 (Fave Movie for @asianlgbtnetwork 2022 Recap)
Badhaai Do (dir. Harshavardhan Kulkarni) Genre: Comedy,  Drama Starring:  Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Chum Darang Language: Hindi
Shardul Thakur is a police officer, who is under constant pressure from his family to get married, but he isn't too keen on the idea because he's gay. Sumi works as a PE teacher and is also being pressured by her family to get married but she is lesbian. She goes to the police to make a harrassment case and meets Shardul. When he guesses that Sumi is lesbian, he proposes a plan: they will get married to get their families off their back. Problems arise, though, when their families continue to meddle in their lives and pressure them to have children.
I love a movie that talks about acceptance and realisation and the whole journey that comes with a queer character. So having not 1 but multiple such characters, especially in a desi setting, was really fun to watch. As with bollywood, this had a mix of everything; drama, humour, annoyingly invasive family members and a happy ending. It made me laugh so much, it also made me cry. It was perfect. Enjoyed watching this so much.

Queerness in Indian Media
↳Film: MAJA MA (2022, Hindi) dir. ANAND TIWARI
Maja Ma follows Pallavi Patel (Madhuri Dixit), a closeted lesbian who gave up her beloved, Kanchan (Simone Singh), decades ago and has since become a devoted mother, housewife, and adored member of her community. While making preparations for her son's (Ritwik Bhowmik) wedding, however, Pallavi is outed to the entire town--and subsequently must deal with the consequences to herself, her former beloved, and her family.
Madhuri Dixit discusses her role in this movie, how movies like this are more possible now because of OTT streaming, and the "unexpected reactions" to the story here.
Madhuri Dixit discusses this movie coming from "a place of love", wanting the LGBTQ community to "feel seen", and "accepting people for who they are" here.
The actress Madhuri Dixit has been in multiple gay and gay-coded media, both as a supportive character and as the gay character herself. She has also been supportive in real life of the LGBTQ community.

5 songs from QLs (queer movies and shows)
Thank you for tagging me @dummerjan 💚
🎶They do not have to be custom-made for the series.
🎶Non-western tracks only. Let's support Asian music and languages! 🎶Feel free to tag anyone who may be interested in participating. 🎶Add #5qls tag to your post for others to find the new favourites!
So, I'll start the list with some Hindi songs as that's my beloved mother-tongue 😍 I'll basically list the queer movie/show name first and then its OST.
1. Maja Ma - Buniyaad by The Yellow Diary
This movie left me stunned. It was the first indian queer film I watched centred around a middle aged lesbian woman and it left me feeling so much.. the acting by Madhuri and Simone is stellar. I'm only sad we didn't get more scenes between them.
This is the reprised version. The original version is also on YouTube and both are lovely 💚
youtube
2. Shubh Mangal Zada Savdhaan - Raakh by Arjit Singh
I think this entire playlist is just going to be of songs that make me ache. Please do read the English translation of Raakh if possible. The lyrics are pure love and pain and really showcase the pain queer couples go through and how they have to fight tooth and nail for their love.
youtube
3. Couple of mirrors - Immortality by Zhang Nan
This song makes my heart ache. It is soft like a lullaby yet there's such pain. Simply heavenly PLUS it's sung by the very actress who plays the lead role of You Yi! And the show? Amazing! The whole old era vibe and the bond between our two ladies was killer (given that one of them is a literal killer lol) Love you Yan Wei and You Yi 💚
youtube
4. KinnPorsche The Series - Contradict by Season Five
Another song that reduces me to tears. It's stuck with me for so long and yet I couldn't bear myself to listen to it for a while there. That's how much it made me hurt.
youtube
5. We Best Love - Blue Lover by YU and Unbreakable love by Eric
Don't ask me to choose. I love both these songs. Just.. Just go listen to them 😢😍
youtube
youtube
Well here comes an end to the literal cry fest. Hope you all check out the movies and shows. Enjoooyyyy and don't forget to carry some tissues 😙😙😙
Tagging @fanshipper1412 @therealblessedaffliction @vvitcherys and anyone else who wants to take this up 😄💚

six recent song favorites
I was tagged by my lovely tumblypal @theinfinitedivides for this tag game! (this is my first time actually doing one, the first time tumblr sadly ate my post, so I hope this time goes better!!) I do in fact have an online music listening profile wherein you can see me listen to an instrumental theme tune for hours on loop but I'd rather keep that to myself at the moment 🙂. I tried my best to narrow it down.
first let me figure out how to make the words tiny... there we go
cumbia del monte fuji by frente cumbiero and minyo crusaders --- I love cumbia. I don't know a lot about specific cumbia artists but I know that I love listening to it. I came across this song in particular whilst listening to the "cumbia colombiana" playlist on Spotify and at it took me a while to realize this wasn't in Spanish- it's in Japanese! I love how intercultural it is. minyo crusaders have a whole cumbia album with frente cumbiero!! I want more of this cultural music salad.
it's all over from dreamgirls --- I believe this is technically a little bit of a cheat here as I really love the song sequence that this is a part of: "driving down the strip", "it's all over", "and i am telling you i'm not going". specifically, the transition from "it's all over" into "and i am telling you" is simply marvelous. it's a really sad part of the show, but my GOODNESS is it a way to end act one. anyone that plays effie white truly gets a moment to shine in both of these songs and "it's all over" is a wonderfully climatic ensemble number.
jhoome jo pathaan & pathaan's theme --- besharam rang my dear I love you but I cannot continue being sneaky with these songs. I will be honest, jhoome jo pathaan had to grow on me, but I love it now! I especially love singing along to exactly one line in the song (yes, it is jhoome jo pathaan meri jaan and then I mumble through the rest of it). when i listened to pathaan's theme I was surprised that I could understand it as the entire song was in English! it goes so hard, as the kids say and is extremely cinematic. it reminds me of the theme from dhoom 2 (because dhoom 2 is the only other hindi action movie I've seen... oooops) but also because of the English prominence and how fun the songs are in general. it then got me thinking about pathaan the musical but I don't know how well an action musical would work onstage.
why'd you come in here lookin' like that by dolly parton --- i was first made aware of this song by watching a drag race lip sync but i recently rediscovered this song on a lesbian spotify playlist. it's so fun! it gives me gender euphoria. i love dolly parton. I just can't listen to 9 to 5 too much because i was on the costume crew for that show. i love how bouncy the song is. now, is the story the lyrics are telling a bit strange? yes! but we're having fun :)
pop? pop! by csr --- cute kpop my beloved!!! i am glad it has kind of made a return through csr. i missed it. I miss weird k-pop in the vein of crayon pop and orange caramel. i can't wait for csr to release more songs as the others they have out really do capture the feeling i have been missing from these newer generations.
brimful of asha by cornershop --- this is a bit more of an older recent favorite but this is also a nice song and introduced me to cornershop. i like the niche of music that they fill, and yes- this song is named after asha bhosle! i love the specific feeling felt by this song, the environment it inhabits, and what music means to those listening to it and the authors of the song.
tagging: @ibn-e-batuta @doodlesofthelastpage @notbroadwaybound @seventhefurbfather -- please don't feel pressured to participate, only do this if you want to <3

Baka Bukas (SPOILER ALERT)
So let's delve in to Samantha Lee's beloved masterpiece of a movie "Baka Bukas", a tagalog phrase whose direct english translation would be "Maybe tomorrow"; but as a queer Filipina, it is a tagalog phrase that says so much by itself even by just having 2 words. For me it always meant "Baka bukas, pwede na." which may be translated to: "Maybe tomorrow, things are possible." or a better fit for its context would be: "Maybe tomorrow, we can try again."
So the story follows Alex, a lesbian who is closeted out of fear of losing her actress bestfriend, Jess. The movie starts with the line: "We were never really just friends." then proceeds to show scenes of them together to shed light on what their "friendship" looks like, and moving on to hear how their usual conversations go, like how they update each other about work, but one exchange really stuck with me:
Alex: I am the number one fan of who you are at 3AM. Jess: 3AM lang? (Just who I am at 3AM?)
You don't say that to your "just friends". We women have a different degree of friendship compared to others; we love uplifting our best friends and we love making time for them, and we love doing things for them, but saying that you are the number one fan of themselves at 3AM is a different type of love. I believe Alex meant she loves Jess when she's "bare" and just herself. I loved how they chose the cast members because they perfectly fit the characters. I could not imagine any other actresses play Jess, and Alex; their facial expressions and tone are subtle but if you have watched the movie more than once, it would give you a different perspective than just being a straightforward movie wherein our main character did not end up with "the" girl. Again. Lesbian films, am I right? heavy sighs
Anyway, there is another scene, a non-climactic one, that I just wanted to emphasize its importance on representation of queer women who came out late (i.e Me), wherein Alex interviews Jess because of the latter's upcoming show. Alex asked "Paano ka mainlove? (What does love do to you?" to which Jess responded:
"Minsan naiisip ko na hindi pa talaga ko na-inlove." (Sometimes I think that I haven't really fallen inlove) despite of being in numerous relationships with men.
We have been built up on heteronormative gender roles that some of us would not realize that being inlove towards the same gender and being in a relationship with them is actually an option. I can personally attest to this, being that I only knew of love when I met my girlfriend. Growing up, I would always want and crave the attention from my male friends/classmates, but now realizing that something was always missing, or …off. And sexually, there was always this feeling of dissatisfaction. I had always brushed it off as a hormonal thing, but now being with my girlfriend, I realized it's because I'm not truly attracted to men…
Which then brings us to the next part of the movie wherein Jess accidentally finds out about Alex's sexual identity, and Alex having explained it through food analogy which could not be more simple:
Alex: Just because everyone here orders bagnet, doesn't mean I have to order it too. I want my tapa, that's just what I want.
to which Jess evidently expresses her dismay towards Alex because she had not told her that she's gay but choosing to tell her distant mother instead:
Jess: Ayoko na. Ayoko na ng bagnet na yan. Nawalan na ko ng gana. (I don't want to eat bagnet anymore, I lost my appetite.) Alex: Gusto mo ng tapa? (Do you want tapa?)
This. This exchange just right after Alex's analogy of bagnet and tapa. See, I love these little scenes because most would brush them off or see them as unimportant but really, these little scenes adds flavor to the movie. Shortly afterwards their friendship progresses to a level higher than just being friends, mainly because Jess proceeded to make a move on Alex by holding hands with her, and kissing her. (YES. Kissing.) This confuses the viewer because they thought Jess is straight, and some would be angered or irritated at least by this, thinking Jess only showed interest after knowing of Alex's identity with the intention of playing around at an unknown and undiscovered field. Which I believe and will stand my ground on it is not the case; I believe Jess had also been inlove with her bestfriend for so long she just did not acknowledge that it was in a romantic way, because again as I said, we were never really taught that it is an option to be inlove with the same gender.
The movie went at a slow but steady pace showing how their relationship developed, and how conflicts followed. Jess is just beginning to reach the peak of her acting career then her talent manager warned that being gay would harm it; while Alex just got out of the closet but now is being nudged back in because of what it might do to Jess' career. Both felt they had to choose and compromise something important, ultimately leading to their break up, with Alex saying that they should just be friends. Just friends. Saying that they will always want something more, and that they can't have everything.
Alex: You want me but you want your career. I want you but I want to tell everyone about you. What we want doesn't exist. Hindi pa ngayon (Not yet.)
Bringing us back to the hopeful phrase "Baka Bukas". Maybe tomorrow. Baka bukas pwede na.
After a year, it was implied that Alex had not been in contact with Jess but was invited by their common friend to a birthday party, leaving Alex with no choice but to interact with her. Jess approached her asking what are her plans for tonight. Ending the movie with Alex answering "Just this." leaving us wondering what happens next. I would love to believe that they had their 2nd chance, that they had the best conclusion "bukas" could bring.
Samantha Lee just showed us a glimpse of reality on being queer, and it was done beautifully and with fairness. She protected her characters well and you would know that the movie was really targeted to the community. Of course, with her being also a part of the community, some might think it must have been easy. No. It's hard to share a story that's entertaining and at the same time, feels real. And the movie's aesthetics, the script, they scratched an itch in my brain. I would forever love this movie.

Is magnetic and beautiful in everything she's in and gave us all the juicy scandal with her sibling rivalry with Joan Fontaine! Before the Oscar Slap was the Oscar sister snub! Also everything she wears in Robin Hood she makes beautiful even a purple green and orange monstrosity how does she do it! Anyway this scene is one of my old Hollywood favourites
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Olivia de Havilland:
Tumblr media
She is just perfection. She has a smile that is looks like it is barely holding back, and yet so reserved as well.
Tumblr media
Broke the contract system and won freedoms for actors (the de Havilland Law is still in effect I believe). 2 time Oscar winner. Beautiful and smart
Tumblr media
She legally challenged the movie studios' unfair contracts and won, setting a precedent for other actors to be treated more fairly. This was at great cost to her financially and essentially getting her blacklisted for years but the resulting judicial opinion is still known as the De Havilland Law and has won her a great deal of praise and admiration.
Tumblr media
Her performance in The Heiress is one of my all-time favorites, she’s so good at making melodrama feel real and grounded without sacrificing any of the passion/drama.
Serenely beautiful, she struck a balance between crowd-pleasing fluff and prestigious drama. Famously at odds with her equally successful sister Joan Fontaine, she was too much of a lady to ever say anything public. Successfully sued Ryan Murphy for portraying her as a saucy gossip in Feud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the period costume + eye patch combo in That Lady is just an absolute serve
Tumblr media
She has the most adorable and cherubic face and voice

She has a way of looking at the camera that makes you feel she's sharing a private joke just with you; it's something about that quizzical twist of the lips and eyebrows. As an actress, she is inimitable; she seems to effortlessly inhabit roles ranging from a heart-broken courtesan to a laughter-loving socialite. Fun fact : she's had quite the fan following in Greece! Stelios Kazantidis even wrote a song as a tribute to her.
Linda Darnell (Hangover Square, Unfaithfully Yours, A Letter to Three Wives)— Her dick is ENORMOUS. She was Fox’s resident bad girl for a while, and she was goddamn sexy during it. She could also play sweeter, and she was still beautiful when she wasn’t crushing men beneath her heels, but also she sometimes crushed men beneath her heels and it was really hot

That sassy sideways glance she does always has me WEAK AT THE KNEES. And when she's making silly faces at the camera to mimic someone ahhhh my gay little heart <3

ok i have a lot of feelings about linda darnell. she was so complex and messy and talented and just such a tragic figure and deserved so much better. her mom basically ignored the rest of her kids in favor of pushing linda into hollywood, which led to her missing out on a lot of childhood experiences, prevented her from enrolling in college, and caused some mental health issues later in life. it’s especially heartbreaking that she met such a preventable end so early in life, and i always wonder what might’ve happened if she had been able to make more movies. she also disliked the hollywood social scene, which i think is totally valid of her. anyway, i loved her in a letter to three women and unfaithfully yours, and especially in no way out, which i think is one of her better roles, really showcasing her acting ability. and the fact that she never really got recognition keeps me up at night,, in my heart she has all the oscars

Yvette Vickers (Sunset Boulevard)—She’s a beautiful woman who was in small roles in good movies and bigger roles in terrible movies with bad management who died alone in her home in Beverly Hills and is known more for her lonely decline than the movie she starred in.
