i find old american straight men's interest in the smiths hilarious like you listen to the softcore gay car sex band and yr singing " i was looking for a job and found a job" you listen to the vegan pro choice bisexual band and you focus on the capitalism critiques that barely touch the surface speaking about an economy that you don't even partake in? Okay girl.

#no shade on them btw i just think it's funnt #it does show how more hyper observant we are of the themes of music #i've seen ppl say that songs have gotten more deep over the years but i feel like that's just consumption of the vintage mainstream #like pop music 90% of the time is very straightforward with its messaging #a lot of rock was also like this spare a few iconic numbers like most queen songs and american pie for example #because for a lot of rock it was VERY abt the guitar without focus on depth #yes we do in modern day have an obsession with depth but even then you can look for insanely deep lyrics back then and you will find plenty #it just may not be in the genre you like from that era #but ofc it wasn't as mainstream so ppl didn't look into it alot even with the bands that had deep lyrics #so we have the illusion of the songwriting not being deep or whatever #but honestly back then it truly was like focus on the noise you made with rock like #les zeppelin is absolutely gorgeous music even if the lyrics aren't 6 feet under deep #*led zepplin omg #but it wasn't impossible to do both but most bands didn't prioritize it #two great bands who did tho were the doors and #the smiths #those two literally were some of the most insane band ever #anyways this is too much for tags sorry lol
