Part three

What could go wrong!? Famous last words my friends. A lot apparently.

The airplane landed and I debarked with my best friend. She was nervous as it was her first time in the famous city. I reassured her as we entered the baggage claim. Shooting my other friends a quick text of where to meet us, I gaze around for my suitcase. Once I see mine and hers I grab them and we sit waiting for the group. Talking about literally anything as we wait. I spot the four turtles as the smallest one runs up to me and hugs me tightly. Donnie chased him but stopped before he reached the three of us. He looked away and scratched his neck. Leo pushed him to us and we all got a group hug. I could see other people eyeing us so I suggested we go to my apartment swiftly. They all agreed and we got in the Turtle Tank. Mikey asked a ton of questions about my trip, which I happily answered. When we got to my apartment I unlocked the door and allowed everyone inside. "Where is April? I thought she was going to be here?" Donnie sat on the couch and Mikey joined him. "April could not make it. She had a shift scheduled when you landed." Raph sat on the floor next to the couch while Leo sat on the kitchen counter that separates the two rooms. I brought my friend to the spare room across from the bathroom. "You can unpack here and we will get you furniture later." She smiled at me and tossed her suitcase in the room. I then toss mine in my room and we both head back to the living room. "This is my best friend, Lily. I've known her for about 7 years." I introduced the half-yokai to the group. They all give a greeting. Lily sits next to Mikey as I go in my room to grab their souvenirs. I can hear happy chatting as I come back out with the treasures. "Ok so the dad joke book is for Leonimbus, the copy of my family's cookbook is for Mike and Ike, the stuffed animal I made is for Raph and sauce, and finally the purple scarf I made for Don-a-long-a-ding-dong." The group erupts into laughter at all their special nicknames, well except Donnie. "Where's my gift?" Lily asks with a sort of smug. I look her dead in the eyes and answer "you living in this apartment is my gift, Lily le le." Donnie even chuckled at this one.

Mikey ordered some Run Of The Mill pizza for their new friend to try. Waiting the turtles told stories of their victories. Donnie covered my ears at specific parts because of how I would have reacted to them getting hurt. When the pizza got there we dug in and enjoyed the rest of the day.

"See you guys tomorrow" I waved goodbye to the boys as they left. I closed the door after watching them all descend the stairs. "Why don't you sleep on the couch tonight and we can buy furniture with the guys tomorrow?" I offered it to my friend. She nodded and I got some blankets and pillows out for her. "Just let me know if you need anything." I grinned at her waiting for a response. "Yeah I definitely will, I'm super excited to be living with you." She let out a partial smile. I turned and went to my room, remembering to close my door now that someone lives with me. I was too lazy to change before going to bed so I just jumped into bed. So excited for the next day I went to sleep.

In the morning I got dressed before going to make breakfast. After I had finished pulling my socks up I headed to the kitchen to look at what I could make for two people. I saw Lily still sleeping so I crept past her into the kitchen. I searched the cupboard and the fridge. Finding some stuff to throw together I try to remember her favorite breakfast. After I remember I smile a bit. I made some toast as I thought I should just do an easy breakfast. I heard grumbling in the other room and turned around. Amara had just woken up, and I greeted her. "Good morning sleepyhead, how did you sleep?" She stared up at me kind of glaring. "Like I need a bed, and an insomniac." I laughed at this "you and Leo will get along just fine." By this time she had sat up and rubbed her eyes to not look as intimidating. "How did you meet them anyways? I mean considering your luck I'm not surprised, but still." "Oh um, Mikey fell from a building in front of me. The other followed to make sure he was ok." I answered putting the toast on two separate plates. "Makes sense knowing how you met me," she said groggily.

I bring the plates over to the couch and hand my friend one. I start eating while checking texts from my manager. "You work so hard on this, you really changed since moving here." She had peeked over at my phone. "Yeah, it makes me happy though," I beamed, munching on the buttery bread. "You're scrunching your nose again, love." I looked at her and I can feel my nose unscrunch. "Darn, I thought I was doing better about that." I covered my face with my hands in embarrassment. She pats me on the back "I know." I look at my group chat texts and spot the time. "We might want to hurry up and finish getting ready. The guys only have limited availability today." She leaned her head on my shoulder "yeah sure." I jokingly push it off and steal her empty plate. Gently placing them in the sink I yell "dibs on the bathroom." I sprint for the bathroom as she jumps up and joins the race. I make it before her by a second and stick out my tongue before locking the door. I can hear her laughing as I start brushing my teeth. She knows I don't take too long but the race is still so fun. After I finish up I leave, allowing her access. I start writing out a chore list and a shower list. These are things I need when living with someone. I hang it up on the wall of the bathroom. I put some boots on as she left the bathroom. Her hair is still wet from the shower. I grab my bag and unload the music sheets to the counter.

She pushes on my shoulder. "Are you ready to go?" I ask as I pull out my phone. "Yeah, I just need one more thing." I type a message to Raph as Amara hugs me. "Oh" I exclaim as I reciprocate her embrace. "I just texted Raph that we are ready and he responded that they were outside." She holds on a bit tighter with these words. I smile at her "let's get you a bed so you can maybe sleep tonight." I grab her hand along with our apartment key. Pulling her out of the apartment I lock the door and double check. "Why did you turn the knob twice after locking it?" Amara pondered with a puzzled face. "I just have to double check or my anxiety will not let it go." We walk down stairs and outside where we spot Raph and Donnie. "Where are Mikey and Leo?" I questioned the pair. "Leo had an interview and Mikey went to an art show." Raphie stated smiling as he hugged me. Donnie looked uncomfortable like he didn't know what he should do. "Well let's get me a bed," Lily breaks the weird tension. We started our walk to the nearest furniture store.

"Oh and after we get the bed I have a great place we can check out." I say, skipping along the crowded sidewalk. Lily and Raph keep having to grab my hands to keep me with them. Donnie still looks uncomfortable and is always lagging a bit behind. Shortly we get to the store and enter it. I tug on Donnie's shirt after we enter, "hey if you want to talk to me don't feel like you can't." He starts to pull me aside but stops to yell "me and Dani are going to go look over here." Pointing in a vague direction. Raph kind of dragged Lily away so we could talk. We walk over to some lamp displays. "Hey Donnie, are you ok?" I brush my hand against his, trying to gain permission to hold it. "Yeah… it's just that…" he keeps taking pauses in his sentence "I'm sorry…" I look at him in shock. But I quickly shake the look away and shoot him a nod. He tilts his head down. "I'm sorry that I tranqed you that night… I just wanted you to stay, but I didn't know how to ask." He gently looked up at me. "I accepted your apology, if…" I pause to think "...you explain why you put me in your bed." He turned his head away and covered it with his hands. "Don't laugh at me." I cocked my head a bit, I could feel my nose twitch. "Why would I laugh?" Sliding his hands down from his eyes, he sighed. "I just wanted some physical touch from literally anyone." I smile sweetly, "well that's what you need to work on then. Asking favors from others." I tug on his jacket sleeve "let's go back to the others now." Donnie nods looking embarrassed and follows as I pull his jacket sleeve around. We eventually find Lily and Raph. But they already picked out a bed frame and bought it. We then head outside to find a mattress store.

I kept asking if Raph wanted to just bring the frame home but he insisted on keeping it. We eventually just used gps to find a mattress store and struggled to bring it home. Donnie and Raph pushed us to not ask the employees to bring it in their van. So me and Lily just let them bring both home. Me and Lily held hands as the two worked hard to bring the bed and frame back to our apartment. After we got it set up in Lily's room Raph invited us to their lair for dinner. The two of us agreed and we headed to the coffee shop I wanted to show them. Once we got there I got us a table as they went to order. I gave Raph my order before I sat down.

Closing my eyes I take in the aromas again. The smell of coffee got me crinkling my nose, but the smell of the freshly made sweets had me grinning ear to ear. I put my chin on my hands and just let out a joyful sigh. When I opened my eyes again I saw Mikey sitting across from me. I was startled so I jumped in my seat and let out a scream. I covered my mouth with my hands as my face flushed with embarrassment. Mikey laughed as Lily ran over. "Are you ok Dani?" She inquired, pushing her hand on mine. Mikey stopped smiling for a split second and kind of just jerked his shoulders up. But quickly threw the happy face back on. "Yeah I'm fine, ol' Mikey here just jumpscared me a little." Mikey gave a little wave to the glaring partial-yokai. Raph called Lily back to help with bringing over the items while Donnie paid. She begrudgingly went over. Mikey got out of the seat in front of me and walked around the table. Without a second to comprehend what he was doing he had ended up sitting on my lap. Luckily he is smaller than me so it wasn't too bad, but still awkward as the others showed up at the table. Lily and Donnie both made faces. And Raph just kind of chuckled. "Hey Mikey, why don't we just pull up a chair for you?" He frowned and hugged me, wrapping his legs around my waist. "...Or this is an option apparently." I nervously laughed as Amara got angrier. I grabbed my cookie and started eating it, hoping to dispel all the rising tension. "Mikey get off Dani, she wants to eat" Raph tried coaxing him. Mikey shakes his head just hugging me tighter. "Mikey, why are you throwing a tantrum?" I ask without fully expecting an answer. "...I want hugs'' I hear him mumble. "Well after this we are going to your lair and you can have all the cuddles you want." I say trying to pull him off me. He released his limbs from my body and jumped up onto his feet. "Really? Does this also mean you will stay over?" I look over at my companion, she shrugs as if to let me know it's my decision. I hum a bit weighing the pros and cons. "Sure, but I'm sleeping in the same room as Lily." I glance over at Donnie and he turns his head away probably embarrassed. I smirk and Mikey pulls up a chair next to me. Arms linked with one of mine. I continue eating the sanity saver as the others drink their beverages and snack on their food.

We all head to the closest sewer drain and Raph holds it open. We all climb down one by one, while Raph closes it from the top. I hold Lily's hand to make sure she stays with us. But another, colder, hand grabs my other hand to guide us. It felt like elementary school field trips all over again. Once we could see the light of the lair the turtle leading me let go of my hand and I sprinted with my friend towards that light. She kind of just looks around in amazement. And I brought her to the guest room. "This is where we will be staying the night." Lily nodded and wandered off on her own as I walked into the kitchen. Mikey had started dinner prep, so I came behind and started to help. "What are you going to be making for dinner?" I asked opening up the fridge. "I'm going to make spaghetti, can you make the sauce?" He answered, filling a pot with water. I smile "do we have any Italian sausage?"

Leo came into the kitchen as I was just finishing up making the garlic bread. "Oh hey, I didn't know you would be here." He stopped at the table and sat down. "Yeah I thought you were doing an interview?" I glance over at him. "Yep, I finished it a few minutes ago" he smirked "guess they just can't get enough of the face man!" Mikey laughed and texted the group chat. "Did they ask any… uncomfortable questions…" I ask trailing off. Leo can see my expression change. "Only one, but I handled it with ease." He smiled at me trying to cheer me up. Mikey came over and hugged me as Leo started cracking jokes. I was laughing up a storm as the trio that were watching Jupiter Jim flooded the room. Splinter, Cassy Jr, Cassy, and April came into the dinning room a few minutes after. The timer for the garlic bread went off and Mikey let go. I took it out and me and Mikey started dishing out the food onto plates. Lily got so excited when she found out about the sauce. And we had a delightful dinner with the entire family. Draxum couldn't make it as he had a bunch of science he was working on. I just think that was an excuse to stay away from me. We don't exactly like each other but more on that way later.

When we had all finished Leo dragged me away while Mikey was washing dishes. And the rest of the group went to go watch more Jupiter Jim. "Close your eyes," Leo was grinning. "Why am I closing my eyes," I asked the blue masked turtle. He grinned even wider "just trust me." He then extended his hand towards me. I held his outstretched hand and closed my eyes. Only to be pulled forward, completely forgetting to keep my eyes closed as I lurch forward. Leo had brought me through a portal, and the destination was breathtaking. We were on top of one of the buildings in New York. I grabbed onto Leo out of my fear of heights. He chuckled and sat down with me. "I wanted to apologize for my actions before you left. I was going through some emotional stuff." I look up at him still trembling. "And you decided the best place to apologize was on the top of a building?" I grab onto him as he laughs. "Yeah not my brightest idea but look," he turns my head. My eyes met with a view of the sun setting over the pier. It's truly beautiful but I am still too afraid to look for long. Swinging my head into his chest I mumble. "I forgave you on my trip, just tell me about your day." Leo hugged me "Yeah the reporter asked me if you were dating any of us. I answered no and said that I would never interview with them again if he asked anything else." I was still shivering so Leo took me home. Via a portal of course.

Lily hung onto me the rest of the night after I got back. Same with Mikey. The group laughed at the hilarious sight. And I just tried coaxing them off, to no avail. I begged for help giving my biggest puppy dog eyes I could. Raph eventually relented but could only hold off Mikey. But by that time we were all yawning, getting ready for some shut eye. I dragged Lily to the guest room and plopped on the bed. She was still hyper attached, but I was so tired I let it go. I cuddled her head to my neck and wrapped my arms around her. I started singing a lullaby to her softly. After a while I fell asleep. I don't know when or if she ever fell asleep. But it was a very warm night.

In the morning I rubbed my eyes and pushed my upper body up. I opened up my eyes to a scene. Lily hugged me from one side, Mikey on the other, Donnie laying on my lap, and Raph on the side of the bed. Leo waltzes into the room, arms hanging behind his head. "Man, how can I join in this cuddle feast?" He smirked as I rubbed my eyes again. "You don't and help me instead get out of this 'cuddle feast' so I can make breakfast." Leo sighed "Fine~, however, I get first of whatever you are making." I nod my head pushing Mikey a tiny bit. Leo pulls out his katanas and creates a portal under the slumbering turtles. Dropping them in, hopefully, their respective rooms. He closes the portals after all three have entered them safely. "Guess you gotta be this rad to save a friend." He points his green thumbs to his face. I nudge Lily to the side and jump out of bed. "Yeah no, just rad enough to save the world twice." I say, flicking his forehead as I pass him. I walk to the kitchen and pull out a pancake mix from a cabinet. I then hear Leo enter the room as I grab a bowl. Opening the fridge to get some eggs, Leo clears his throat, to gain my attention. I ignore him and continue my task. I can see out of the corner of my eye Leo stamp his foot and I chuckled. I get the pancake mix in the bowl and add some water. I also add the eggs then mix it together.

After I made breakfast and everyone ate, most had jobs to do. Donnie had offered to help Lily to search for job opportunities. Mikey had a meet and greet to attend to. And Raph and Leo went on patrol. I had the week off so I just did chores around the lair. I seriously had nothing better to do. And I tend to do better with chores when no one is around. I started on dishes from that morning, just humming an imaginary tune. And after I finished I put them on the drying rack, then headed to the living room. Waving a quick hello to Splinter before getting started on the cleaning. It took a bit of time but it was worth seeing the end result. Plus Splinter's praise was a pretty nice bonus. I moved on from there to the main room. Just picking up whatever was thrown around while singing. I didn't worry about Donnie's lab because he keeps it squeaky clean. But I did move onto the game room. Which just so happens to be the worst room. I had to scrub one tiny area for like fifteen minutes just to get it clean. I obviously wore gloves the entire time I cleaned. Sensory issues and all that. Just as I finished up I heard someone walk up behind me. I turned my head and it was Lily. She told me she got her business done here and that we should head back. I nod and lead the way out. Not before saying goodbye to Splinter and Donnie of course. We climbed out into an alleyway close to our apartment. I sprint holding Lily's hand to the apartment building. After we get inside I dibs the shower and she's got no trouble with that.

I grabbed my clothes and took my choker from Donnie off. Despite having been mad at him I still wore his precious gift all the time. Well except for when I would take showers and while I slept. For reference I do normal things like going to the bathroom and practicing good hygiene. I just don't write about it. Because who wants to read about a shower? That's just boring. Anyways getting back on track, I obviously took my shower and invited Lly to take one if she wanted. The sewers can make a person smell awful if you are down there for too long. "Yeah I definitely will" she responded getting up to take one. I grabbed my song book and jotted down an idea I had for a song. Humming the melody a bit. Once she came out of the bathroom she plopped down on the couch next to me. "Do you want to watch a movie?" I asked, not looking up at her as I struggled with the lyrics. "Yes but I get to pick." She said stealing the remote. I nod my head and she turns on a video. I recognize the voices and finally look up at the screen. She had put the video of the Kranng invasion on the TV. I forgot how fascinated she was with the event when it happened. She wondered how they got here, who was saving New York, and why our heros were yokai. All of these questions she finally had answers too. I kind of huddled my legs close to my chest. Completely forgetting my song book and pencil in my lap. I hug my legs as I watch Leo stab the Kranng's leg only to disappear in blue lightning. Lily is watching in full anticipation as the video ends. "Hey, can I choose now? I thought of the funniest video I want to show you," I tried to suggest but Lily had already clicked on another video. It was an interview with our heros, Mikey, Donnie, Leo, and Raph. They didn't show Cassy Jr or April simply because they were human. I was mad at first about this but now I know that they simply didn't want to only be associated with the turtles. I snuggled up to Lily, not letting my feet hit the ground. She was always one to be interested in the weird and kooky. The interview still went on, every time Raph came on the screen Lily lit up. I guess after meeting him she found him amazing. I felt that way at first too. But after talking to them for a few months I guess I saw them as people. They are like little brothers to me.

I guess I fell asleep while thinking because I woke up. I opened my eyes and felt a blanket resting on me. I looked over to where Lily was and she had also managed to fall asleep. I just have that magic effect on her. Pulling the blanket over her I scooch away from her. Only to bump into someone. I look up and see Raph smiling at me. "Hi Raph… what are you doing here?" I wave at the big guy. He still smiles "Lily let me come in like an hour ago. I just wanted to invite you and Lily to an event we will be attending." I adjust my body to properly face him before divulging my answer. "Depends what day it's on and at what time. Lily's got a few job interviews lined up and I gotta get back to work next week." He pondered for a bit, "well it's this week on Wednesday at seven, oh and it's a semi-formal event. Whatever that means." He mumbles the last part. "Semi-formal is just when you don't dress in your everyday clothes but you don't dress too fancy." I shrug my shoulders at him. "But I think me and Lily can make it." Raph beams at me before giving me a hug. "April will be so stoked, she was going to be the only human if you didn't come." I laughed and pulled away from the tight embrace. I hadn't seen April in a while. But her job keeps her busy, she's not as fortunate as me and the guys. Yes we are busy, but not as much as her. Lily woke up to see the large alligator snapping turtle. Eyes filled with excitement, like I just got her the best present of her life. I would assume she was too tired to notice who he was when she let him in. Raph pulled me into his lap and hugged me. "Woah big guy, give me some warning. Also hello wifey hope you had a good rest." Raph flinched a bit at the nickname, "wifey… are you two married?" Me and Lily both look at him and I burst out laughing. "No, unfortunately, Dani doesn't like anyone enough to get married to them. We are just platonically married." Lily shakes her head while a smirk grows. Raph's eyes light up, "does this mean you can platonically marry multiple people?" My laughing lessens as I rub tears from my eyes. "Yeah I would guess so, but I don't know anyone who would want to platonically marry me other than wifey here." I sigh, gesturing to my non-binary friend. He just smiles at this and says nothing. We chill for the rest of the evening, just enjoying each other's company.
