Some days, Lloyd can be certain that there exists a version of Garmadon that loves him. He can convince himself that he had a loving father once. Some days, he wonders if he's lying to himself, and it's all because of a stupid plant of all things.

Author Notes: finally watched crystalized and boi love me some lloyd daddy issues content. just a hot second of lloyd having daddy issues and being jealous of a plant.

Warnings: i don't think there's anything too spicy, just some general angst and self doubt. just really focused on lloyd's daddy issues.

Lloyd almost wishes he could say his father was irredeemable. He wishes that after all this time, the reason Garmadon had never changed was because he couldn’t. At least then, he’d know it wasn’t him that failed. At least, Lloyd wouldn’t be left here doubting.

Yet, here his father stands, trying to be good. He should be happy his father is trying. He should be overjoyed by the idea that his father is capable of love. Instead, he feels hollowed out. Because if all this time Garmadon was capable of love, then what did that mean for Lloyd? Garmadon is capable of caring. He loves Harumi and Christofern, and was willing to change for them. So why couldn’t he change for Lloyd? What was it about Lloyd that was so unloveable?

He wishes these feelings would vanish. He doesn’t want these doubts. Because it always ends on a slippery slope. Because if this is a Garmadon that retains some good, then is it truly possible to say his father is gone completely? 

It was easier when he could treat them as two separate people. It was easier when there was simply his loving father Garmadon and the heartless emperor Garmadon. With the lines blurring, his memories darkened. There’s been so much uncertainty in Lloyd’s life, yet one thing’s always been certain: his father loves him.

Now, as he watches Garmadon watch over this tiny little plant with all the love and care his father once gave him, he can’t help but wonder whether any of it was real. Did his dad ever love him? Lloyd’s love was never enough back then, it wasn’t enough now, but damn does it sting to see a plant of all things achieving what Lloyd never could.

It’s just not fair, but then again, what was it Lloyd once said? All those years ago, when Lloyd could at least pretend he was naive, he’d forced himself to come to terms with everything.

“Fair? Fair isn’t a word from where I come from.”

He’d be foolish to think it would be any different now. Of course his dad would love a plant more than him. Why should he expect anything different? No, he just needs to accept that misery is his companion, and nothing will ever change that. 

Fair does not exist.
