Repubs literally use "look at kids genitals to make sure they're what we want" and "make sure poor people die if they get sick" and "pretend queer people don't exist unless you're telling them they're going to hell" as election platforms. These are publicly stated positions of which they are proud, and which they use to garner a very specific demographic, because that demographic is vulnerable to socio-economic and socio-political programming, which makes it easier and easier to whip them into aa terrified frenzy that allows them to make literally any policy as long as they use the right buzzwords to sell it, even if it actually doesn't do what they say it will.

Exhibit A: even as recently as 2016, the majority of Americans polled thought we attacked Iraq because they had something to do with the 9/11 attacks, which they demonstrably did not--the Bush administration went after Iraq because Afghanistan was taking too much time and money and they needed a win for reelection.

Exhibit B: despite being constantly caught lying, proudly admitting to tax fraud, and being a raging racist/classist/ableist/sexist idiot, Tr*mp still has a really gross Manson-esque cult following.

Exhibit C: Marjorie Taylor Green still has a job.
