Pairing- Bob Floyd x female reader
Summary- you’d finally admitted your feelings to Bob, the only problem? He doesn’t remember any of it, and now he’s got a new girlfriend.
Warnings- angst, a little bit of smut, Bob being a dummy, reader also being a dummy.
A/N- Hey babies! Let’s celebrate me finally getting back to the states with a new fic I wrote (one of three) on my 14 hour flight last night, not beta read, fuck it we ball. 😂😂

Bob’s new girlfriend was awful.
No really she was. Natasha had been sending you emails for weeks about how bad things had become, and until you’d stepped back on shore you had scarcely believed it yourself.
It had been twelve weeks since you left for your special detachment. Twelve weeks since you drunkenly fell into bed with your best friend Robert Floyd.
You’d had a party at you and your roommate Natasha’s, sort of a “good luck hope you don’t die” drunk fest as your front seater Jake Seresin liked to call it. Too many drinks were had and inhibitions were pretty much non existent by the end of the night, Bob offering to help you clean up which resulted in drunken confessions of love and hands roaming bodies until the early morning hours.
It has been perfect, messy, but perfect. You’d scarcely hoped he felt the same and had been holding a candle for him for an embarrassingly long time. When you woke that morning you were in a lavender haze of ooey gooey feels, sneaking out of your room to shower and pack your things as you thought about what might be in the future for the two of you when you made it back from the mission.
But when Bob woke up with the hangover of the century and didn’t remember a single bit of the night before? Everything went to shit. You were too embarrassed to tell him the truth, if he didn’t remember then maybe it didn’t mean what you thought it had meant, and maybe he hadn’t been ready to cross that line with you after all. So you bottled it all up, pushing forward with the mission and kept contact to a minimum. He never said it but he knew something was off, you never missed an email when he wrote and lately you’d all but ignored him entirely.
About 6 weeks into your deployment, Nat hit you with a bomb you never expected- Bob had started seeing someone. You let it all out in your bunk, cried until your tears could have floated the carrier you were on and then some. You should have said something, you knew that now, and it was too little too late.
When you made it back Nat was bursting at the seams to give you all the gossip, you weren’t ready to hear it but she was quite literally bouncing on her toes to give you the tea so you settled in after a shower and let her blab.
“She’s awful y/n!!! Some wannabe instagram influencer who is on her phone constantly and oh my god she is rude!! She puts on this sweet little angel vibe for Bob but as soon as he leaves the room she’s like Cruella de Vil with blonde hair. I’m totally convinced she only wants to be with him for the military girlfriend vibes, she posts all these pictures of them together and tags them with little stupid hashtags about how she’s a military girlfriend and blah blah blah.” She says with a scowl as she pretends to fake wretch and you don’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Is he happy with her?” You ask quietly, too afraid to look in her eyes, she’s too perceptive for her own good though; she’s known something changed between the two of you but hadn’t been able to place it.
“Honestly? He looks miserable, he hasn’t seemed like himself since you blew out of the house the morning of your deployment without so much as a goodbye. I don’t know what happened and I won’t ask, but I think you two need to talk. He misses you.” She took your hand in hers and gave you a kind smile, she was a bulldog in her field but she was the kindest soul you’d ever met. “I miss him too Natty, I really do.”
Bob had really liked Lauren in the beginning, she seemed like such a sweet girl, her socials full of pictures of her rescuing dogs and going on adventures, he could really see a future for them. But then she started only wanting to hang out when he was at the bar with his navy friends, always on her phone posting pictures of him in uniform, and bragging on her tiktok about being a Navy pilot’s girlfriend when that wasn’t even really what he did and she never seemed to listen enough to actually care about getting to know him for who he was. It had become exhausting, and he couldn’t talk to the person he wanted to the most because it felt like you’d completely ghosted him over the past few weeks. Bob was at a loss, he didn’t know what had changed between the two of you but as soon as Natasha announced to the group chat everyone was going to dinner to celebrate you and Hangman making it home he only had one thing on his mind- corner you and find out what the hell he’d done to piss you off.
When he got to the Hard Deck that night everyone was already in full party mode, drinks and pizzas littered the back wall of the bar as everyone danced along to Rooster’s rendition of “Benny and the Jets” on the piano, you perched right by his side singing the harmony and bursting into giggles as he wiggled his eyebrows at you. You were breathtaking, you always had been to Bob but he’d never had the courage to tell you how he felt, always burying it when the feelings bubbled up in his chest. He was glad he hadn’t brought Lauren with him, he couldn’t clear the air between the two of you with her around, and honestly he was still wondering if he even wanted to continue a relationship with her in the first place. He would unpack all of that later, the song had ended and you’d noticed he was staring at you, your skin flushing bright red at his gaze.
You knew he’d be here, but even after weeks away you weren’t sure you were ready to face him. Did he remember what happened? Did it change anything? It certainly had to you, how could it not? You’d admitted your deepest feelings for him and then had the best sex of your life, only for him to completely forget it ever happened. It was devastating, but there wasn’t any way to avoid him so better to just rip the bandaid off now and get it over with. You sat your empty beer down on a nearby table and made your way to where he was perched at the bar, ginger ale and peanuts occupying his hands as he looked you over with a nervous smile.
“Hey.” Oh god really? Hey? That’s all you could come up with? You cringed internally at the waver in your tone, you can be held responsible for millions of dollars of military tech but Bob Floyd is somehow the Achilles heel in your confidence? Jesus.
“Hi” he said softly and smiled back at you, “we’ve missed you around here, you didn’t answer any of my letters and I was starting to get worried about ya.” He fiddled with the top of the plastic cup holding the peanuts and tried to look anywhere but in your eyes, this was already the most awkward conversation he’d ever had and that was saying something for him.
“Look, Bob I don’t want to prolong this but I get it ok? We all do stupid things when we’re drunk and I won’t hold it against you. I heard you have a new girlfriend and I’ll respect that, I just…I need some time. I meant every word of what I said to you that night and if you just said it back to be kind-“
“Whoa hold on a minute, what are you talking about honey?” He thrust a hand out to catch yours and watched horror cross your face, what the hell had he done?!
“Oh-oh my god. You still don’t remember. Fuck, I- I’m sorry Bob I can’t do this right now.” You all but ran from him towards the back door and out into the night, you were fairly certain you were going to throw up or pass out. Maybe both.
Bob’s head was swimming, he stood up to follow you and had a moment flash behind his eyes. You beneath him, arms around his neck as the two of you ground into each other in your bed. He’d thought that had been a dream…it had been…right? The more he tried to think of it the more the memories came back, watching you come undone beneath him as you cried out your love for him, his hands tangled in your hair as he made the same confession. Natasha came up behind his rigid form to press a hand to his shoulder and he jerked back with a gasp, deep blue eyes wild and filled with panic. “Hey, whoah! Easy Bob, what’s going on?” She put both hands on his biceps as if to steady him but it couldn’t stop the room from spinning.
I-I’ve gotta get outta here Phoenix, did you see where y/n went? I royally screwed things up I have to see if I can fix it before it’s too late.”
She pointed towards the back door and he was bolting for it before she could say anything else, he couldn’t believe how much of a fool he’d been.
You were crouched in the sand a hundred feet or so from the bar, gasping in deep breaths as tears clouded your vision, head in your hands and body shaking. You should have just said something the morning after it happened, why didn’t you just tell him then? He still didn’t remember and if he didn’t remember then it must’ve not meant anything to him, now he was with someone else and your chance had all but evaporated. Had you completely lost him now? You didn’t know if you could bear not having him in your life, even if he wasn’t in love with you, losing your closest friend would be too much to bear.
“Y/n?” You heard him say softly behind you, he had always had an uncanny ability to sneak up on people and you supposed you should’ve known he’d come. He was the kindest person you knew, even if something made him uncomfortable he still worried about others. Selfless.
You swiped the tears away as best as you could before you stood and looked at him but it was no use, the second you locked eyes the tears were back.
“Robby, fuck I’m so sorry. I should’ve brought it up the morning after it happened but I-“
“I didn’t remember. And you thought it best to leave it be.”
“Y-yes” you said shakily, and you saw anger flash across his handsome features, a look you weren’t used to seeing from your beloved WSO.
“Damnit y/n! All that time wasted! If-if I’d’ve just known-“ he was shaking his head in frustration and you realized with a shock that he may not have remembered- but he meant what he said.
“Wait- wait, are you saying you meant it?” You said with a whisper, Bob looking at you incredulously like you’d grown three heads or something ridiculous.
“Is that what you’re worried about? That I didn’t… Jesus of course I meant it! How could I not? I think I’ve been in love with you since the day I met you and I feel cheated now! I’ve had you in my arms, kissed you, made love to you and I don’t remember it, but the worst part is knowing that you kept this from me. We could’ve been together this whole time! I’ve been pissing my time away with a girl who couldn’t give a rats ass about me and you’ve been right here all along.”
You were so sure he’d said it in a drunken mistake, braced for the worst that it wasn’t registering that he was telling you everything you wanted to hear, tears still spilling from your eyes as you blinked up at him, and a sound of frustration escaped his mouth as he yanked you into his arms, pressing kisses to your forehead and cheeks, and you melted into him as it finally settled in that this was real.
He took your face in his hands as he tipped your head up to look at him, swiping the tears away with his thumbs while you tried to bring yourself back down from the meltdown.
“Damnit girl it’s always been you, I don’t know how you could’ve thought otherwise.”
You laughed out at your stupidity and leaned up into him as he pressed a chaste kiss to your lips.
“Now listen, I want to do this right, so before I let myself drown in you like I want I have something I need to do. Stay right here, wait for me.” He kissed you again and released you, already missing his warmth you let out a whine.
He chuckled and swiped a loose curl behind your ear, “in order to make love to you like I want, I have to speak to Lauren. I want a clean slate for us baby, give me a few minutes and I promise after this I’m yours until you’re sick of me.”
“Never gonna happen” you said with a grin and he mirrored you with a brilliant smile of his own.
He had a renewed confidence he hadn’t felt in months as he made his way back inside to get his phone, passing Hangman by the dart board with his arm braced against the wall and a very familiar blonde haired woman shamelessly flirting with him.
Doing a double take he confirmed with a laugh that is was in fact his girlfriend trying to shoot her shot with Jake Seresin and oddly enough it didn’t even surprise him.
“Hey Seresin, glad to see your back.” He said with a smack on the golden haired aviators back, Jake cocking his head to the side with a smirk.
“Baby on Board! Good to see ya, glad to be back home. This is- uhh I’m sorry sugar I don’t know that I got your name” he said gesturing towards the girl and she looked at Bob like a deer in headlights.
“Lauren, her name is Lauren. By the way, whatever was going on with you and me? It’s over sweet pea. I think you two will be very happy together, you like TikTok right Hangman? She’s real big into all that influencer shit. Anyways, you two have a good night, I’ve got somewhere else to be.” He said as he walked off winking at Natasha as she cackled from her perch near the group.
He bounded out into the sand to find you right where he let you, lighter than air as he looped an arm around your waist and pulled you in to kiss you like he’d wanted. You gasped into his mouth as he nipped at your bottom lip and slid his tongue into your mouth to taste you. It was perfect, all your little sweet noises as you grasped at his collar and rubbed your body against his.
“Robby” you gasped out as his lips drifted down your jaw and to your neck and he felt lightheaded over all of it. “What’s on your mind baby” he said as he smiled against your skin and you shivered in his arms. “Take me home? I think- I think we need a do over. Want you so bad.” He couldn’t think of anything better, tossing you over his shoulders as you shrieked and giggled he carried you to the parking lot and placed you gently in the passenger seat of his old beat up truck.
“Let’s get you home sugar, we’ve got a lot of time to make up for, hope you weren’t planning on sleepin’ tonight, I don’t know that I’ll be able to keep my hands to myself.”
You all but crawled into his lap in the bench seat as you ran your hands through his sandy blonde hair,
“I love you. Don’t you dare keep your hands to yourself, want you to love on me until we can’t move anymore, take me home and make me yours.”
And he did. Six months later when he put a ring on your finger it was a surprise to absolutely no one, he’d always pick on you for hiding the truth and you’d never let him live it down that he had forgotten making love to you in the first place. It seemed so silly now looking back on it, knowing you two were meant to be. He’d always been the one, and now he always would be.

You taste the cocktail and make a face. As sweet as it is, the alcohol is stringent in your throat. You set the glass down as Bucky’s fingers tap on his pint. You glance up, surprised to find him watching you.
"Don't like it?" He asks.
"Mm, no, I mean yes. No." You stutter out. "It's good, I just... don't drink much."
"She's a good girl." Your mom teases. "I always had to push her out the door. Oh, don't even ask about prom." She grabs his forearm and cackles. "You would think buying a dress would be fun. Nope. I think she'd have rather gone to the dentist."
Your cheeks turn hot. Four years past and you still cringe at the fitting room torture. You look down and fiddle with the cutlery wrapped in a red napkin. You really wish she wouldn't treat you like a child. You suppose at times you might act like one.
"Those things can be tough. I barely remember mine. Only went so my buddy didn't feel like such a loser," Bucky shrugs. "But look at how far you've come. I'm sure high school is like a blip on the radar. Now the real fun begins, huh?"
You know he's trying to help and you appreciate. But it only makes your chest tighten. The dread throbs in your temples. Life, it's all ahead of you but you have no idea where to start.
"Yeah, I... I barely remember." You talk to the table.
"She's a smart one," your mom praises. "I really lucked out. No teenage angst, no rebellion."
You chew your lip and pick at the trim of the table. You sound lame. You are and you never minded the safety of that trait. Still, you'd like to be known as more than a boring little bookworm.
"Okay, here we are." The server rescues you from further humiliation. "Chicken caesar."
She puts your salad in front of you, "cheese steak sammy and macaroni salad." She lays a plate in front of Bucky, "and the sizzling fajitas."
Another server appears with a wooden plank, set with a cast iron pan atop it and fixings; tortillas, salsa, guac. It smells delicious but you know it's too early for all that. You'd be even sleepier and you still have to get unpacked.
"Enjoy," the waitress smiles and struts away.
You unwrap your cutlery and use the knife and fork to shred the lettuce. You should've known better than to order salad. It's always so awkward to eat with others around to see.
"Mm, pretty good," Bucky says. "Lauren, how's that extravaganza? Really went all out."
"Wasn't expecting all this." Your mother scoops grilled peppers into a tortilla, daintily with her fork as her nails shine in the light. You remember when you asked to get a manicure and she said they were impractical...
She's changed but you don’t feel all that different than when you left for college. Maybe you should have tried harder. Well, it's not like your life is over. Far from.
"How about you?" Bucky prompts and once more you meet his gaze with a startled blink. You nod and swallow.
"Good. Just boring old salad." You say.
"Always chicken caesar," your mother chirps. "Creature of habit. Don't worry. You'll hardly be surprised. By tonight, she'll have one of her books and you won't hear another peep."
You bite down on your tongue. You're not sure anymore if she's bragging or she's chiding you. Her life is so exciting now. Her hair is highlighted, her nails are filled, and her makeup... she's actually wearing makeup.
"Didn't think you could work with those." You say as she catches her nail on her napkin.
"Oh, yeah, I'm not in the ward anymore. Sweetie, didn't I tell you? I do clinicals now. I just show the new ones what to do. Not much hands-on stuff."
"Uh, I remember. Sorry."
"Too sharp," Bucky chuckles. "Can't even hold her hand without getting clawed."
She jabs him with her shaped tip and he grunts. They laugh together and you look around. You're the sore thumb sticking out. Ever the third wheel. Even when you had 'friends', you sat on the sidelines, confused by their inside jokes.
"It's very good. Thank you." You sit forward and focus on the salad. The sooner this is over, the sooner you can do exactly what your mom expects. Hide with a book. Alone.

Home is always a comforting sight but not as much as you expect. A flicker of guilt sparks in your chest. Bucky just bought you lunch, you shouldn’t be so negative. Still, you just want to unwind after a long day of traveling.
As much as you want him to just go, you would never say as much. Your mom seems happy with him. She even seems healthier. It’s nice to see her taking care of herself, she’s done enough of that for others for too long.
You get out of the car but Bucky’s too fast. He has you bag in his hand before you can react to the trunk opening. He smiles and insists, “I got it. You lead the way.”
“Mm, I could nap about now,” your mother calls over the car roof.
You agree internally. The whole train ride, you looked forward to burying yourself in blankets and leaving the world behind. It would be rude to do so with company around, even if they aren’t yours.
You follow your mom to the front door and she unlocks it with a yawn. You enter and slip your shoes off on the mat. Things are different. Not too different, you can’t quite place everything. Yet you notice that the coat rack has been replaced with mounted hooks across the wall and the rug at the bottom of the stairs is new.
“Oh!” Your mom spins, surprising you before you can sneak past her. “I forgot about your surprise!”
You look at her then over your shoulder at Bucky as he plunks down your bag. You wait for him to respond. He just offers a small curve of his lips. You turn back.
“You,” your mom taps your nose. “Come on. Ah,” she waves around you at Bucky, “bring her bag with you.”
Your mom grabs your arm and ushers you upstairs. You can’t resist, too swept up in fatigue and confusion. He follows behind you. What’s happening?
“Okay. I hope you like it,” she goes to your door and your stomach flips. Oh no, what did they do? She swings the door open and backs up, waving inside, “tada!”
You hesitate but make yourself step into the doorway. You glance around and your mouth slowly falls open. You blink at the room. Wow.
It’s not awful, just another change you’re not ready for. Instead of your old rectangle bookcases, new circle ones have been built into the walls; white instead of brown. Your bed is the same but the wood is newly re-stained and the bedding is shade of pink you wouldn’t necessarily choose. A heart shaped rug is spread across the floor and your previous desk has been replaced with one that folds into the wall.
There is an entirely new piece that stands out. A vanity in the corner. The mirror is the same shape as the carpet and the stool has a fluffy seat.
“Oh, wow...” you utter as you step further inside.
“Bucky is so handy! I always wanted to do this but I didn’t know where to start. Oh, just wait until you see his place,” she rambles as she trails you. “He built the whole thing himself.”
“I had help,” he tuts and sets your bag down. “Tried not to do too much but just added a fresh coat to everything.”
You’re silent.
“Sweetie?” Your mom touches your arm.
“I’m... surprised. That’s all.”
“She’s speechless, Bucky!” She squeals and claps her hands. “I knew she’d love it.”
“Heh, yeah. Well, I hope it isn’t too much.” He rubs his neck as he looks around. “You can let me know. I can change whatever you need.”
“No, no, it’s really nice. Like really. I...” you wring a finger in your other hand. “Thank you.”
“Lauren,” he sidles past you and nudges your mother gently. “Why don’t we let her get settled in? I’m sure she’s beat from the road.”
“Right, right,” she beams around the room before she faces him. “Of course.” She glances over at you, “sweetie, let us know if you need anything, okay?”
“Mom, I’m fine.” You show your teeth sheepishly and hover around the wall.
Bucky leaves first, your mom following as she cranes to stare at the room. She leaves you with an excited wiggle and you go to close the door behind her. Once it’s shut, you sigh. You weren’t ready for any of this. Somehow coming home has proven even more disjointing than going away to college.
You plod to the bed and flop onto it. You roll onto your back and let your eyes rove. It is so cute. You would have killed for a room like this in high school, even on campus. Yet it does seem a lot. You’re sure once you get a job, your mom doesn’t expect you to stay too long.
Maybe this is a good thing. A little less pressure on you to get out but not exactly. With Bucky hanging around, you can’t help but be in the way. You’re not the only one who needs to adjust to your return.
You can worry about it all later. For now, you need to close your eyes and stop thinking.

The afternoon wears on as you dawdle away on your phone. You can barely keep your eyes open as the screen glares back at you. It’s almost six when you make yourself stop the addictive word game.
You lay listless, trying to urge yourself to get up and do something. You lose the battles as your eyes close and you drift off without realising it. In your subconscious, you’re just as you are in reality. Just lying there, motionless and mindless.
You wake slowly as pressure squeezes in your pelvis. Your bladder forces you to action. Even with the painful weight throbbing inside, you move without urgency. You sit up slowly, dizzy from the unexpected doze. You stand and shuffle to the door.
You leave it open as you go into the hall and let your feet guide you. Habit takes down to the bathroom door and you reach for the handle. It turns from the other side and you recoil in surprise. Bucky stops short as he emerges and apologises.
You stammer as you gape back at him. Somehow after the whirlwind morning, you forgot all that change. In your grogginess, you didn’t see the new walls or the white bookcases or think.
“S...Sorry...” you murmur.
You’re consumed in radiating heat as you stare at the stubble along his neck. Any lower and he might be embarrassed. He is shirtless after all. You’ve never been the best at looking people in the face but you have no choice. You examine his silver-streaked hair, slightly tussled, and his grizzly beard with its dusting of white along his chin.
You step back as he raises a palm and dips his head. “No problem. Gotta get used to each other, I guess. Bad timing, is all.”
“Right,” you agree dully.
He looks back at you and his forehead creases. “You okay?”
You wince. “Yeah, why?”
“Nothing, nothing. Just... you look... a little out of it.”
“I fell asleep,” you run your fingers along your throat nervously. The motion catches his eyes. Their startling blue hue gleam in the light.
“Right. I figured you needed it. Long ride...home.” His gaze flicks up to meet yours. “Sorry you’re stuck here with us boring old people. You probably miss it already.”
You shrug, “not really.”
“Not really? What about your friends?” He rests his hand on the door frame and leans.
“Didn’t... just study buddies. Classmates.” You look away and shift as your bladder aches.
He clears his throat and stands straight. He steps out of the frame and you jump at his sudden movement. He touches your hip to keep from colliding with you and sidles by.
“I’ll just get out of your way, baby girl,” He squeezes, his hand lingering for a moment. “Welcome home.”
He lets go and turns, strutting down the hall as you stand frozen. You hurry forward and shut yourself in the bathroom as you scramble with the sudden agonizing pang. You don’t have time to think, you have to go!

Two days had passed since your encounter with Lauren, and during those two days, you had been doing your best to avoid Joel. He lifted you with force as you wrapped your legs around his waist, your back to the wall. His hands on your hips to hold you right there. The air in your lungs was trapped in a bubble of incredible pleasure, but it still found a way to escape in rushed moans against his mouth as you both kept devouring each other.
He groaned against your mouth, lips parting, unable to utter other things instead of whimpers that drove you absolutely crazy.

“everybody ready?” Ray called as he threw on his jacket. I herded the kids down the hallway. Mary and Alex laughed as they ran over to their dad.
“almost!” I called back. “Last minute adjustments!” I could heard ray laughing as he shoved his keys into his pocket.
“Will we ever have a Halloween without them?” He teased as the kids ran towards the door. “Whoa whoa slow down guys! You don’t even have shoes on!” Ray pointed by the door and the kids ran to put on their shoes. “Hi.” He whispered before he kissed me. “You look good.” Ray smirked as his eyes roamed over my costume. I struck a pose and he laughed.
“thank you.” I said, patting his chest. “And you make a lovely James Dean.” I whispered back. Ray hummed before kissing me again.
“thank you.” He said before turning back to the kids. “Alright. Who’s ready to head out?” There was a chorus of cheers as Ray opened the door, grabbing Alex's hand as I grabbed Mary's. "Everyone have everything they need?" Ray looked at me as he said it. I nodded and he nodded back. Alex waited patiently by Ray's side as he locked the door and set out the candy.
"Alright. Left or right?" I asked. Ray took my hand as we waited for the kids to choose.
"Left." Both kids said, tugging on our hands as they tried to take off.
"Slow down." Ray laughed, stumbling over his feet a little as the kids lead us down the path. "They're not going to run out of candy." Alex turned to look at him, a scandalized look on his face.
"But they might dad! We have to hurry." He said. Ray chuckled and let go of my hand to wrap his arm around my shoulders.
"Alex, buddy. I've been doing this a lot longer than you have. We've been doing this a lot longer than you have." Ray motioned to me. "They are not going to run out of candy. I promise."
"Oh big mistake there Ray." I whispered with a laugh.
"And what if they do?" Mary shot back. Ray looked at me, biting his lip to stop from laughing. She was a carbon copy of Ray in many ways, and this was one of them.
"Then whatever is left over from tonight is yours." I said, glancing at Ray. He pouted a little as I leaned into him with a laugh. "You really are your father's daughter you know that Mary?" I teased. Mary looked at me confused.
"What does that mean?" Alex asked. Ray ruffled his hair.
"You'll figure it out when you're older." He said. "Probably not until you have kids of your own." Ray shared a look with me and smiled. "Alright. Don't run off too far. Make sure you can see us." The kids nodded.
"And if you want to cross the street, come find us first." I added.
"Ok!" Alex and Mary grabbed each other's hands before running off to the first house.
"I'm never going to get tired of this." Ray said, kissing my temple.
"Me neither." I whispered back.
*********Flashforward*********
"Lauren! Sarah!" Mary yelled as the two girls ran through the kitchen. I lifted the candy bowl above their heads as they ran past me.
"Careful girls!" I yelled as they ran towards their mother. "Alex? The boys ready?"
"Are they ever?" He called back just as Charles and Rob ran past me. "Now I know what you meant when you called Mary her father's daughter." Alex sighed as he came into the kitchen. "Speak of. Where's dad?"
"Getting ready. He hasn't had an excuse to dress up for years." I chuckled as I headed into the living room. "And don't say a word. I know what you're going to say when you see his costume." I pointed a finger at Alex.
"What? Not like he could pull of James Dean anymore." Alex quipped. I gently slapped his arm.
"Alexander Stantz! That's rude." I chided. "Your father could be James Dean if he wanted." Alex rolled his eyes as he flopped down on the couch.
"The kids just need their shoes." Mary said as she flopped down next to him. "Dad almost ready?" I nodded.
"He's excited so don't ruin this for him." I reminded them both. Alex rolled his eyes while Mary nodded. I heard Ray arguing with the kids as he came through the house.
"But I was a Ghostbuster. Ask your parents!" Ray said.
"Sure grandad." Sarah said. "Just like Uncle Peter was a teacher."
"Believe it or not he was." I said as Ray scooped up Lauren who was trailing after him in a Ghostbusters suit of her own. "No one ever said he was a good teacher though."
"That is true." Ray laughed as Lauren looked over his shoulder at me. "Alright everyone. Shoes on! Last minute adjustments made and you will be ready to go." Lauren was set down and ran to Alex who fixed her collar. Charles followed his sister while Sarah and Rob ran to Mary. Ray wrapped his arm around me and kissed my temple. He looked me over and whistled lowly. "Looking good there." He whispered. I laughed as I put my hand on his chest.
"Careful Raymond. There's kids here." Ray shrugged before dipping me and kissing me. Alex and Mary rolled their eyes, used to our antics. The kids made various noises of disgust as Ray pulled me back up.
"You'll all understand one day." Ray laughed as the kids all ran to give us hugs before urging their parents out the door. "Remember when they were the ones urging us out the door?" Ray asked as he hugged me.
"Yeah." I sighed. "They grow up so fast."
"But now we get to share in their experiences." Ray said. "And I have to admit, I love spending my golden years as a grandad."

Summary: finding the perfect couples costume was turning out to be harder than you thought.
The sixth of my Autumn & Halloween blurbs! There’s no way Leon isn’t the most competitive about costumes.

One of your favourite times of the year was Halloween. It always had been, but ever since you started dating Leon, it was one of the highlights of your social calendar. The team party especially was always so much fun, mainly because of the costume competition.
Well, competition was a loose term. There were no prizes, no official judging, but it was a matter of pride among the team, and this meant you (and the rest of the WAGs) got swept along into it.
Leon was particularly competitive (who could’ve guessed), and as always he wanted to be the best. And look the best, naturally.
The two of you had spent weeks deciding on your couples costume. There were initially ideas of going as a big group costume with multiple other people, or in a small group costume with Connor and Lauren, but in the end it boiled down to the two of you doing things by yourselves, which was more than fine with you.
Leon had been particularly picky this year though, crossing off ideas from your list with ruthless abandon:

All of them were decent ideas, and you know the two of you could have easily pulled them off, but your boyfriend wanted something that he knew for certain no-one else on the team would do. Which is how you ended up with your final choice - Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Leon’s sister had been ranting about having to watch Tangled on repeat thanks to her children, and the idea had struck a chord with Leon, and it hadn’t taken much to persuade you.
Leon had ordered a dark green tunic, billowing white shirt, loose brown pants, and mid-shin high brown boots from a professional costume maker. Apparently he’d used her in previous years through Etsy and now ordered directly. So naturally you’d put in your order with the same costume maker, ordering a pale lilac corset dress with beautiful ribbon detail as well as flower and vine stitching on the shoulder-puff sleeves and hem. On your own you’d found a realistic long blonde wig that you’d arranged for the maker to braid with flowers, as well as buying some lilac silk ballet pumps and a plastic saucepan to hang at your waist. It wasn’t too over the top, but you felt like you’d put in enough effort to get the compliments you deserved. The two of you were going to look amazing together, you knew that much. Especially as Leon had grown out his hair a little to give it that swoopy Disney effect.
“How do I look, liebling?”
You glanced over your shoulder, a wide smile instantly spreading across your face as you turned around to face him properly. Leon was leaning against the doorway all nonchalant, but you could tell his eyes were serious about your approval.
“Very dashing, Flynn. Or should I say Eugene?” you teased.
Leon just laughed, a note of relief sliding in, and he strode forward to peck a kiss to your lips, letting it linger as you tilted your head up.
“You look amazing, just so you know,” he murmured.
“I’d better. This wig and this corset dress took long enough to arrive,” you mused, fighting the heat that rose to your cheeks.
Leon took your hand, stepping backward just enough to spin you around under his arm, making you laugh as you twirled, lilac skirt flaring out perfectly.
“Amazing. Beautiful. Du siehst perfekt aus,” he said smoothly.
Charmer.
“Flattery will get you everywhere,” you grinned.
“Good to know,” he grinned back, knowing full well what complimenting you in German resulted in.
“Shall we kick some costume party ass then, Flynn?”
“Absolutely, Rapunzel.”

Imagine being Embry’s imprint and tagging along with the wolves to their newborn training session. However, you’re always in for an unexpected surprise when you’re around Bella..
“Take your filthy hands off her.” You turned toward your imprinter, slowly, and began to walk toward him.
“Embry, let me explain. How much did you hear?”
“Enough to know this bloodsucker thinks he has some claim to you. I knew something was going to happen the more you were around them!” His voice escalates, now beginning to echo through the forest.
Embry was never the type to really lose his temper. He was one of the most even natured members of the pack, so to see him like this was terrifying.
“She did not know, Embry. You have a right to be upset, but if you’re going to take your anger out on someone, take it out on me. I’m the one to blame.” Jasper rationalizes, as he steps in front of you slowly, never once taking his eyes off of the shifter about 10 feet away from him. For a moment, you forgot all about him.
He pushes you behind him as he continues, “Leave (Y/N) out of this and let’s talk about this rationally..” You flinch internally. Wrong button.
“We wouldn’t be in this situation if it wasn’t for you! You don’t tell me what to do!” Leave it to Embry to still think clearly and make logical sense, even while pissed.
And before you could blink, a slender, giant wolf sits directly in front of it, teeth bared and ready to pounce. Then, he charges–making a beeline straight for Jasper -with you still standing directly behind him.
Oh, shit.
Suddenly, the wind is being knocked out of you as you're pushed to the side. You feel yourself hit something hard before rolling down something else, you presume stairs, before coming to a stop.
With half-lidded eyes, you can see both Embry, in shifter form, and Jasper duking it out in the Cullen's own backyard. You honestly couldn’t say a damn thing because what reaction did you expect to this situation? The only thing you could hope for was that they didn’t kill each other-or you.
You feel yourself gently being lifted to your feet by ice cold, dainty hands. After your vision begins to focus, you recognize your savior by their familiar long, blonde hair.
“Are you alright, (Y/N)? Are you hurt?” Rosalie inquires, as she visually inspects you for injuries.
You notice the rest of the Cullen’s and the wolves, attempting to pull back each respective member of their clan and stop the fight. Watching this spectacle, pure adrenaline kicks in for you and you do the only thing your instincts tell you to:
Run.
“I gotta get out of here. Everything’s a mess!”
“Are you sure? I think Carlisle should take a-.”
“No. I got to go. I can’t stay here.” Something in your tone, this time, resonates with her and she drops her grip on you.
Reluctantly, she nods in understanding. You return it, affirming her silent plea that you’ll let her know you’re alright. With that, you take off to the front of the house, heading for your car. Hopping in and starting the engine, you speed off–leaving the ensuing chaos behind you. At least, for now.

After Rosalie loses sight of you, and hears the screech of your tires. Her patient demeanor she had with you drops entirely when she turns back toward the commotion.
If there was one thing she could not stand, afterlife or otherwise, is women being hurt because of men’s ego and shenanigans. She also grew to like you and, if nothing else, respected the fact that you did not let any of these supernatural men run circles around you–unlike Bella.
“BREAK. IT. UP!” Channeling her rage, she speeds over toward the commotion barreling toward both her brother and the shifter, sending them flying in opposite directions like bowling pins.
This sudden distraction gives her family and the pack the opening they need to pull their members back entirely, finally ending the brawl.
Esme sighed looking at her now destroyed back porch. What a mess.

The ride home was a blur to you. Not even the dash of the forest on Jasper’s back could compare, and that was saying something. About five minutes after you left, your phone starts buzzing constantly. Even when you walk in the door, it’s still buzzing. But after texting confirmation to Rosalie you toss it somewhere, ignoring it entirely.
Thank goodness your parents were downstate at a conference and didn’t have to explain why you looked like who did it and why. Flipping on the light in your bathroom, you take stock of your physical appearance: Your usual put together hair was all over the place. Bloodshot eyes replaced your vibrant (y/e/c) ones. Your clothes had slight tears in them, barely concealing the long bruise and now bleeding cuts on your side, ending mid-back. Now the adrenaline is wearing off you started to feel EVERYTHING.
You didn’t recognize who was staring back at you.
Biting back tears, you start to pull out the rubbing alcohol and gauze from the first aid kit. Never in your life had you ever felt so out of control, so fragile, so vulnerable.
And you hated it.
Maybe it was misplaced, but for right now you wanted no reminders of anything or anyone that made you feel the way you do right now. You couldn’t let anyone see you cry. You wouldn’t let anyone see you cry.
At least that you could control.
Hearing a knock at the door broke you from your concentration. Didn’t the unanswered phone calls for the whole day give them the hint: You didn’t want to see ANYONE right now. Whoever was at the door was going to get it.
Carefully, you maneuver yourself downstairs to not irritate your cut even more.
“Didn’t I make it clear that I wanted to be alone? Why can’t you give me space?” Throwing open the door, the last person you expected to see stood there at your doorstep.
“Because it looks like you need stitches and I know you’re not going to a hospital.”
“Emily?”

"He is going to take his height after your side of the family for sure. I had to buy him an entire new car seat this morning because he can no longer fit the other one anymore."

"Listen what you said was completely true about your father. Your father does have some issues that he needs to workout within himself. I even told your brother that as well. Hell your mother and I even talked about the situation before you got over here."

"So basically you overheard the conversation and Jax told you how he felt about it?"
"Yes , you known me for the longest to know that I don't get in your guys business unless one of you come to me about it. Which is also rare as well ."
"I love my dad but the unfair treatment is getting worse as time passes. Everything I do , he questions and I don't like being questioned let alone being told what to do. This is my life and everyone is just in it. I run it how I want and it seems as if I do that then I'm doing shit wrong."
"Trust me when I say this, I know how you feel. Maybe you should talk with Jaxon as well?"
"Why would I do that? Whenever KP and I go to him about a situation that involves our father he is on his side. Even when he's wrong , your husband is on his side. Yes I get he's dad first born and his right hand man and all but damn. There's a sibling code that he should follow too!"
"What sibling code should I be following ?"
"Oh my gosh, I'm not going to do this right now."
"Nah , don't walk away. You were comfortable with ranting to dad about some fake story that you got in your head of yours. So go ahead and speak your mind now. I'm right here."
"Let's not get all hostile right now , there's a time and place for everything and right now isn't the time. It's your sister day and our son is in front of us."
"This doesn't concern you at all Lauren ."

"I'm not going to stand here and go back forth with your ass Jaxon. I am in a good mood and I'm not going to let you nor anyone else ruin that for me. So if you excuse me I'm going go and speak with my guest."

You could have called her and talked it out prior of the cookout today. Let's not take this day from our sister and make it about us . Today is her day and we celebrating her accomplishment."
"Of course you're going to take her side. Everyone takes the brat side when she knows her ass is wrong for speaking on me."
"Do you hear yourself ? Nobody is taking sides. You know what ? You got it , we ain't about to go back and forth with a grown ass man who can't comprehend for shit. Nani let's go , Rita and Kelly been looking for you."
"Find me later Nani, so we can finish catching up ."
I nodded my head to her signaling that I was agreeing to catch up with later on. Taking a glance at my eldest brother , who was avoid to make eye contact with me. I rolled my eyes and turned to walk away with KP next to me. As Keith and I were walking away , I could hear Lauren cursing at Jaxon. Which she hardly ever did especially out in the public eye. But in this case, he deserved it.
“Sometimes I wonder how the hell we end up being his younger siblings.”
“Dad was a player back in the day just like uncle Mike . We were bound to be each other siblings , he was just born with his parents fucked up ways.”
“No bull shit Nani , he got her victim card. Manipulating ass winch . But let’s stop talking about them before he try to say anything else.”
“You right and thank you for backing me up.”
“Aye that’s what I’m suppose to , we’re blood . We ain’t suppose to go against each other . Right or wrong ima back you up and then correct you when nobody is around. It should be the same on your end as well.”
“Don’t worry it is , now let’s go see Kelly and Rita before the- is that Darius ? I’ll be back, I got to go handle some business.”

pretend i havent been inactive for 100 years. i've been watching renegade nell and its giving me a new sketchbook au idea/accompanying doodles. essentially: fae highwaywoman johanna is on the run, kaisa is Out To Get Her with dark magic
you have to cut me some slack with how silly i sound. its the hyperfixation. im ill
i'm casting these freaks like actors. Johanna is Nell:
it is 1705, and barkeep Johanna has found herself a highwaywoman on the run for a murder she didn't do, accompanied by her daughters and aided by a little spirit named Alfur. she has found fae-like abilities, and despite her good intentions, she is now feared across half the country as an invincible murderess.
Kaisa is Sofia:
hunting her down is Kaisa, a lady whose family owns Johanna's pub, whose father Johanna is falsely accused of killing, and who is obsessed with catching her. she uses dark magic to fuck with Johanna's life remotely, summoning things to attack her etc - she may be untouchable when it comes to human enemies, but not magic. Kaisa herself is lonely, surprisingly empathetic, and is desperate to prove her worth and have control over her life.

she is a painter and illustrator still. she is struggling to find time for her hobbies
she would rather not be robbing people but has no problem if she needs to. the rich ones have more money than they know what to do with anyway, and if she has to take a horse from some poor guy, she leaves him with stolen valuables in exchange. she's a little robinhood about it.

yes Lauren (belonging to @blaithnne) is included. Nell is accompanied by her two little sisters, brave & helpful older sister Roxy, and funny & inquisitive little sister George. Lauren & Hilda take their place, and maybe Frida and David tag along hehe.
Lauren & Hilda keep getting taken hostage in attempts to get Jo to turn herself in, but they always get out of it. until they do, Hilda probably talks their ears off about dragons and Lauren makes terrifying threats.
no one else REALLY specifically fits character slots like Amadin, Thomas, and Charles (there aren't a lot of men in hilda lol) so i'm going to wing it and the other characters can fill their roles when needed maybe
Thomas is Sofia's brother who killed both their father and Nell's father, and is generally reckless, careless, and easily badly influenced. i'm actually thinking of putting 18yo Dylan (oc of mine who is Kaisa's younger sister) in his place. she is a lot sweeter in regular hilda universe but i think the plot & i could fuck with her character enough that she gains these insecure, irresponsibly cruel tendencies. sorry Dylan
both Johanna and Kaisa were witnesses when her father died. Kaisa knows she's innocent, but goes along with the accusation to save Dylan from being arrested and keep the family (and their place in society) from falling apart. I'm thinking of making Dylan a boy in this, to keep the dynamic of the land going to him when papa dies > he would be a terrible landlord > Kaisa gets to take the reigns and keep everything in working order because she actually cares and enjoys having things to watch over and work on
in general Kaisa is very lonely, has to work twice as hard for the power and respect men are given automatically, and yearns for the kind of freedom and support that Johanna has despite being an outlaw from a poor family.
i think David and Frida could fill Amadin's role as friends they pick up along the way. David's loyalty and voice of reason, and Frida's fierce protectiveness and determination to prove herself both remind me of his character.
i'm inclined to draw a blank for Poynton, the main villain, a Jacobite amongst the royal guard, the siblings' traitorous mentor in black magic, and the indirect reason their dad died in the first place. Tildy is Kaisa's mentor, but not an evil one. the closest Hilda has to real villains is Erik, and the head witches maybe, but none of them really hit the nail on the head for this guy. an au oc may be in order!!!
the Bellkeeper can be Charles maybe lol. he is an established highwayman leading a double life as both a wanted criminal and a aristocrat. he is suave, a little campy, and a firm believer that with confidence, you can sweet-talk anyone into believing you are anyone. he annoys Johanna into letting him tag along and help with disguises and plans just because he finds it fun.
Lady Eularia Moggerhanger runs the newspapers, and i'm splitting that between two characters for a couple reasons. Erik is the owner of the presses (not putting him in the royal guard because it wouldn't make sense for him to be a Jacobite rebel) who generally enjoys fearmongering and controlling the public.
Victoria is the head editor with a taste for dramatics but seeks the truth above all else, and happens to be the Bellkeeper's 'friend in high places' who begrudgingly bails him out of trouble.
Gerda replaces Polly, a good-hearted writer and believer of justice who falls head over heels for Jo when she gets highway-robbed by her and mistakes her for a man. is later appointed assistant editor of the newspaper.

this isn't meant to stick to the plot of renegade nell, there's a lot going on and it would be easier (and more interesting) to figure out an original plot with this different cast of characters. i just thought it would be fun to put sketchbook into an 18th century highwayman period fantasy drama with dark magic and pixies. and enemies to lovers. okay thanks

BEFORE THE WAR
**Germany
Claudia Difiori is brought by her father, to Germany. See her lore.
So began a love affair between Claudia and Josephine von Segensfeld. But during a party hosted in the manor, Claudia "broke up" with Josephine because this was "unnatural" and "she had to marry a man". They had a huge fight and became bitter towards each other.
Giles Eleison is there as well. His father took him there so he may find a wife.
Giles Eleison meets Claudia Difiori, shortly after, he asks her to marry him.
**England
They both thought marriage would fix them. it did not. [1]
some years pass. Carol is born.
News of the rebellion in the American colonies reaches them. Giles reads about it one certain morning and suddenly it feels like his entire life's purpose was revealed to him.
Giles quickly leaves his home to join the army.
DURING THE WAR
Giles is thriving ! The bloodshed, violence and death is exhilarating ! He's a completely different man than who he was before !

POST-WAR, the Kenneth Farm
note: Giles was originally meant to have one ending -- he would be shot and would die alone on a field without anyone having loved him. But thanks to Joseph, his fate is split into two possible paths, or routes as i like to call them. One where he does die, and one where he ends up surviving, but pronounced dead at first.
Secret ending: Liver Failure .

I was taught that speaking up was talking back
you focus on a point behind your father as his voice rages through the room. you didn’t know what you did this time but he was pissed again and he let you know.
you’re quiet—as always—just hearing to him yell around, insulting you for things you had no power over. at some point you’d stopped listening to him, for your own good.
you’d made the mistake of talking back one time and that resulted in ripped out hair and a nasty bruise on your cheek. since then you refused to open your mouth when he yelled at you.

“i’m sorry,” you mumble, head hung low as a bowl of porridge scatters through the hut. your eyes are fixed on the ground, you’re not daring to move. “i’ll do it better the next time.”
“you better do,” your father hisses, grabbing the braid at the back of your head. “can’t even make good food, can you? what is there that you can do, huh?” he spits in your face and you want to cry. but you knew you couldn’t. it would only make him angrier…
he storms out of the hut and you collapse on the floor. you never understood why he despised you so much. how was it your fault your mother left? what were you supposed to do? you were a baby, a few months old. she didn’t even want you.
you quietly sob while you massage your scalp. you did your best to be a good daughter, to do what you should but your father was making it hard. he barely paid attention to you and when he did he usually complained or demanded you to apologize.
and you did apologize. every time the same two words left your mouth. i’m sorry. you thought that maybe one that it would be enough and he’d finally recognise you as his daughter but deep down you knew that would never happen…

there’s a small dagger in your hand and you know, you could use it. he was passed out. you could stand up and slide it across his throat, he wouldn’t notice but you couldn’t.
any person in the right mind would’ve left him already, no matter if he was your father or not but you couldn’t.
you loved him…
your uncle sigurd offered so many times to get you out of the house already but every time you declined. if you leave now your father would break. without a doubt. he was a broken man, held together by nothing but his anger.

“who let the sheep gate open?” aslaug questions as he walked into the great hall. “all of the sheep are gone. we’re lucky if we can find them again!”
your head perks up from your table and you look at your step-grandmother. your eyes drift towards your father, knowing he was the last to check the sheep. you didn’t understand why he always did it, you had enough slaves but he wanted to do it anyways.
you can see his eyes dart around and that’s when you realize he was drunk when he last was at the shed. nowadays he was always drunk.
you take a sip of ale before you look at aslaug. “it was me,” you say. “i went to check on them and must’ve left the gate open…”
she sighs, “siggy… you know we have thralls for that.” her tone is scolding but the look in her eyes says otherwise. she knows how bjorn treats you and—just like sigurd—she tried to move you out of his hut but ragnar refused to let her act.
bjorn was a grown man, he’d said. he needs to live with the painful reminder that thorunn left him.
you loved your grandfather, you deeply loved him; he was an amazing man but sometimes you saw where your father got his bad character traits from.
“it won’t happen again,” you quickly promise, noticing the way your father looked at you. “it was a one time thing and—”
“quit the bullshit,” sigurd then suddenly said. “we all know it was bjorn.” your uncle rolls his eyes at his older brother.
your fathers jaw tenses and you already shrink in your stool. you weren’t sitting beside or across him but that wouldn’t stop him from standing up and dragging you away by your hair.
your father grumbles something before he wipes his mouth with his hand. “if siggy said she did it, then she did it,” he simply says, confining to eat his chicken.
beside you, sigurd groans. “i swear to the gods, you’re the most terrible father to roam this earth!” he plants his hands on the table and stands up. “why are you being like that, huh? are you a child?”
“sigurd—” aslaug warns but he doesn’t listen to her.
“siggy is doing everything in her power to get you to care for her, to love her and what do you do? you treat her like a fucking thrall!” you swallow as you look at your uncle. you knew he had a softer spot for you than your other uncles but you’ve never seen him stand up for you like that…
bjorn’s eyes snap towards his brother and he slowly puts his chicken leg down. “siggy and i are none of your business,” he hisses, the threat evident in his voice.
sigurd huffs, “oh but you are! do you think i don’t notice the way she flinches whenever one of us is near her—especially you? do you think i don’t notice the bruises that litter her skin?” sigurd’s eyes narrow and you can see his body start to slightly tremble. “do you think i don’t notice that?”
at the words of sigurd ragnar head slowly lifts. he’s kept himself out of the conversation so far, he always does but now sigurd and bjorn had their fathers attention.
“what is this about? bjorn, sigurd?” his voice is calm as he speaks and leans back in his chair. his eyes land on you. “siggy, what is sigurd talking about?”
you swallow and avert your gaze. you could t expose your father like that, could you? who knows what ragnar would do to him once he knew how bjorn was treating you…
“siggy,” your grandfather calls out again. “is it true what sigurd said?” the look in his eyes is soft, his whole attention fixed on you.
“i—” you start, your voice catching in your throat. you couldn’t lie, not to your grandfather… “it is true…” you quietly say, pressing your body into the chair, afraid that your father would leave his seat and drag you out by your hair.
ragnar slowly nods, his eyes trailing around the room before they land on his oldest son. “bjorn,” he says, his voice still calm and collected. “i want you to leave.”
your eyes widen and you stare at your grandfather. did he really just say that? you turn your head to look at sigurd who looked as equally shocked as you.
“what?”
ragnar sighs, “you heard me. i want you to leave. and don’t you dare come back before you’ve come back to your senses.” he stands up from his seat, his eyes fixed on his oldest son. “this is not how i raised you bjorn. this is not how i raised any of my children.”
bjorn huffs and shakes his head. “are you really gonna do this? i’m your best warrior!”
“maybe you are.” ragnar shrugs. “but i will not tolerate the way you’re behaving towards your daughter—my granddaughter!” his voice slightly raises. “you’re brining shame over our name.”
bjorn lets out another huff before he gets up from his stool, knocking it over. “if you say so. i’ll leave.” he stomps out of the great hall, not even looking back once.
you stare after your father, not quite believing what just happened. what the hell? you feel tears gather in your eyes and while they should be happy tears, they weren’t.
you get ripped out of your trance when you feel someone embracing you and you quickly realize it’s ragnar. “i’m so sorry,” he mumbles into your hair, pressing a kiss to you head. “if i had known i would’ve acted sooner…”

“You definitely have enough of a case with the text messages and voicemails alone to be given a fairly cut and dry divorce on grounds of emotional and mental abuse, Y/N.” Lauren Kennedy said, the next day. Jake had once again worked his brotherly magic and arranged for Penny to watch Gracie while you had the appointment. “I have to tell you, even given the fact that he is in Texas, the nature of these texts and voicemails becoming increasingly hostile and threatening, I would recommend requesting an order of protection as well for both you and Gracie. With that said, I’m assuming you want complete custody of the child?”
“If there is a way to make sure he has absolutely no rights to her, that is what I want.” You said. “I don’t want or need child support from him. He’s admitted to never wanting her, does that count in our favor?”
“It does.” She said, “Would the protection order be something you would be willing to pursue?”
“He’s never physically laid a hand on me. Would a judge even order it without him physically harming me?” You asked
“With the escalating calls and texts, I would say the probable cause for him to become physical is not too far fetched.” She said gently, “I’m assuming you haven’t listened to the more recent calls or the messages he has sent your brother?”
“No.” You admitted, “It became too much and Jake just got me a new phone and number so I wouldn’t have to. If you think it’s for the best and necessary then yes, I am willing to request the order of protection.”
“I think it’s always better to be safe than sorry,” She said, “especially when a child is involved.”
“I will do anything to protect Gracie.” You said. “I have to be honest with you Ms. Kennedy, I don’t have a lot of money. I have a credit card I was able to get without Trent knowing, but he never let me have access to our accounts.”
“I’m willing to take you on as a client at a very low rate.” She said, “I was you, Y/N. My story is almost identical to yours. I was able to get out because I had people helping me. Now, I get to do the same thing for other women. There is a whole amazing life waiting for you. I’m going to help you grab it with both hands.”
“I don’t even know what to say.” You said, wiping away the tears that were streaming down your face. “Thank you… It doesn’t seem like enough… but thank you.”
“You’re very welcome.” She smiled, “I’ll get started on the paperwork and get it all filed ASAP. I’ll just need to know if there is any personal property you’re wanting me to include in the papers?”
“No, I got most of Gracie’s stuff before I left and I don’t care about any of my stuff.” You replied, “I’d honestly be shocked if any of it was still there anyway. I just want to be done with him and to move on…and I want my maiden name back.”
“That’s an easy enough fix once the divorce is finalized, I can walk you through that process.” She smiled, knowingly. “I’d say we should be able to petition the court for a name change for Gracie too.”
“That would be amazing.” You replied, “I want to cut him from my daughter’s life completely so she never knows the pain of a piece of shit father.”
“I will get this ball rolling and keep you in the loop on where things are at all times.” She promised, “I have to caution you that he may escalate in behavior once he’s served with papers. I urge you to keep up what you’ve been doing and not engage with communication. All communication can go through myself and a lawyer of his choosing if he hires one.”
“Trust me, I’m more than happy to not have to talk to him.” You answered, “It’ll make Jake happy too. He’s definitely not a fan of Trent’s.”
After leaving the lawyer’s office you sent a quick text to Jake to let him know it had gone well. You stopped off at the grocery store to pick up the stuff you’d need to make dinner. You decided to use your credit card instead of the card Jake had given you. You mentally added finding a job to your to do list though. Once you had everything you needed for the dinner you loaded the car with the groceries and headed back to the house.
“Thank you so much for watching her, Penny.” You said once you were inside and set the bags down on the counter. “I hope she was well behaved for you.”
“She was an absolute angel.” she replied, smiling, “It’s no trouble at all, Y/N. Honestly, I’m happy to help whenever I can.”
“I’m blown away by the amazing group of people my brother’s surrounded himself with.” You said, “It’s definitely not something we were used to having growing up.”
“I gathered as much.” She said, smiling gently. “I’ve had a soft spot for your brother since he first got to Top Gun as a new recruit. Saw right through the tough guy, cocky aviator act.”
“I’m glad he’s gotten better at letting people in.” You smiled, “He’s one of the best men I know. I might be biased because he’s my big brother and practically raised me himself, even though he was just a kid, but they don’t come better than Jakey.”
“You know,” Penny said, “I know you’re going through one hell of a tough spot right now, and it might seem a little hopeless, but as someone who’s been in your shoes, Sweetheart, I want you to know… you’ll find happiness after all of the dust settles.”
“I think one I’m free of Trent, I just want to focus on being a good mom to Gracie and building a new life for us here… one where Jake doesn’t have to support us, preferably.” You replied, “Maybe I’m just meant to be single. It’s not like men will be lining up at the door to date a single mom…an unemployed one at that.”
“Well the unemployment part I can help with.” Penny said, “I could use some help at the bar during the day. Keeping track of the ordering and the paperwork side of the bar is not my favorite. If you’re interested, I’d happily throw that stuff your way. It’s part time for now, but it might help get you back on your feet.”
“I don’t have anywhere for Gracie to go while I work right now.” You replied, “I’d love to accept the job…can I have a few days to try to find a sitter?”
“Of course.” Penny replied, “Let me know if you need any help. Once school is out for the summer, I’m sure Amelia would love to babysit too if you need it.”
“Thank you, Penny.” You said, “For everything.”
“Of course.” She replied, smiling, “You’re family now, Y/N. I know you’ve heard it a lot since getting here but it’s true.”
“I’m starting to think coming here was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” You smiled, tears once more forming in your eyes.
“It’s your fresh start.” She said, “Now’s your chance to make the life you want…for yourself and Gracie.”
“I was actually talking to Jake about maybe going back to school.” You admitted, “I need to get through the divorce first and find some semblance of a new ‘normal’ for Gracie and me, but then… maybe.”
“I think that’s a wonderful idea.” Penny said. “And don’t close yourself off to other possibilities either. You deserve a shot at happiness after this is over.”
“So I’ve heard.” You replied, “I just highly doubt men are lining up to take on a 26 year old divorcee with a toddler.”
“I can name one, that from what I saw when we were here helping get Gracie’s room set up, would be more than happy to be at the front of that line and be given a shot.” Penny said, “I don’t know how Jake would feel about it, but I for one can and will vouch for him.”
“Who?” You replied, shocked. You hadn’t noticed anyone paying any more attention than the others.
“Rooster.” She smiled, like the cat that caught the canary. “He was lookin’ pretty smitten with you and he definitely fell head over heels for that little girl.”
“Bradley?” You asked, eyes wide, still reeling from this tidbit of information. “I think he was just being nice. He’s really good with Gracie, but all of Jake’s friends were.”
“Just my observation.” She said, not wanting to spook you, “Just don’t count yourself out from finding a good man. Trent is the exception, not the norm. Real men, secure men…they don’t treat women like that.”
With those words of wisdom, Penny said goodbye and told you to call her about the job. Once she’d left you turned on music quietly in the kitchen and got to work preparing dinner for your brother. He had sent a text earlier to let you know the whole squad had jumped at the chance at a home cooked meal. You seasoned the pork roast and started it cooking so you could add the bbq and shred it later. The chicken you were frying so you needed to wait until closer to dinner. You got the ribs ready to start cooking before adding them to the oven. You planned on putting them out on the grill when it got closer. Once you had the meat sorted, you set to work whipping up a batch of the honey cornbread that Jake loved, opting to bake them into muffins for the safe of ease. Once those were in the oven baking, you set to work mixing up some bbq sauce. You hated to have to cheat and use store bought as your base, but you quickly added everything you needed to make it better. By the time you were cleaning the kitchen up from your first round of cooking, Gracie was waking up.
You wiped your hands to dry them and headed back to her room to change her diaper before bringing her out. She was starting to show signs of being ready to potty train so you made a mental note to pick up pull ups and a toddler potty next trip to the store.
“Hi, Gracie girl!” You said, walking into her room. She was sitting in the middle of the bed, surrounded by pillows, looking very much like the princess Jake called her. “Did you have a good nap?”
“Mommy!” She said, her little voice still sounding sleepy, “You back!”
“I’m back, Sweetheart.” You smiled, reaching out to pick her up. She happily stood and toddled to the edge for you to pick her up. “Let’s change your diaper then you can play while mommy makes you a snack ok?”
“Otay, Mommy.” She said, “Nanas?”
“Absolutely you can have a banana.” You agreed, “Did you have fun with Miss Penny?”
“Yes!” She exclaimed, happily, “Penny pway!”
“Penny played with you?” You asked as you changed her diaper.
“Yes!” She confirmed, “Mommy, Unko Jakey home?”
“Not yet, Sweetie but he’ll be home soon.” You assured her. “Uncle Jakey’s friends are coming over tonight too.”
“Woosta?” She asked, her eyes getting big. “Pwease, Mommy?”
“Rooster will be here too.” You promised, your mind quickly drifting to the last part of the conversation with Penny. You knew for certain that Gracie was taken with Bradley. She’d latched onto him almost from the instant they met. It made you wish her own father was as attentive and sweet with her as Bradley was.
You set Gracie down on the floor by her toys and went to cut up a banana for her. You put the banana into a bowl and then set it at the table by her Booster chair and got her a cup of milk in her sippy cup. Before you had a chance to go collect her though, the front door opened and you heard her squeal in delight.
You stepped into the living room in time to see Jake drop his flight bag and swoop Gracie into his arms, grinning ear to ear…both of them. He moved away from the door, kicking it closed with his foot, as he smothered Gracie with kisses, earning himself full on belly laughs from his niece.
“You’re home early.” You noticed, “I figured you’d be home closer to dinner time.”
“Mav had us knock off early.” Jake replied, laughing with Gracie. “We were in the air all morning and then went over next week’s plan for the new recruits. Wrapped up early so he dismissed us. Everyone was in a hurry to get out of there and get cleaned up. I think they’ll be descending on us here soon.”
“Home cooked food is really that much of a draw?” You asked, surprised, “Don’t any of them know how to cook?”
“Some better than others.” He replied, “But a home cooked meal they don’t have to prepare themselves is definitely a draw.”
“Well, then I guess we are going to make this a weekly event.” You declared, “I can’t have them starving from their own cooking. They’ll get at least one good meal a week.”
“I’m sure they won’t say ‘no’ to that, Tulip.” He grinned, “Thank you, by the way. I know your ulterior motives behind this dinner….and the weekly dinners you’re proposing.”
“Don’t know what you’re talking about, Bubs.” You winked, knowing he was right. You were doing this on purpose. You wanted to give his friends, Phoenix specifically, a chance to see the real Jake more often. “Go shower, you smell like jet fuel. Then you can help me by keeping Gracie occupied while I cook.”
“Deal!” He said, handing Gracie to you and picking up his bag from where he’d dropped it, “Be right back Princess G, then we’ll play! Uncle Jakey will take you outside.”
You managed to get Gracie strapped into her booster seat to eat her banana while you got out everything you needed to get the sides going for dinner. You checked the meat, pulling the ribs from the oven and letting the cornbread muffins continue to bake. By the time you were ready to start getting the ingredients out to coat the chicken with before frying, Jake was walking into the kitchen in a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt.
“Brave to wear white when around Gracie.” You teased, “And barbecue sauce.”
“I love living on the edge,” He laughed, “What can I say?”
“While you’re outside, can you start the grill?” You asked, “The ribs need to go on to finish cooking.”
“Sure thing.” He replied, “Anything else I can do to help?”
“Just keeping Gracie entertained is a huge help.” You said, “Besides, this is your ‘thank you’ dinner. I’m not letting you help.”
He laughed, dropping a kiss on your head and getting Gracie from the booster. “Come on, Princess G. You can help me start the grill and we’ll play outside while Mommy works her magic in the kitchen.”
“Pway!!” She clapped, “Byebye Mommy!”
“Have fun, Sweetie.” You laughed, “Listen to Uncle Jakey.”
The two of them left the kitchen and you returned your attention to getting dinner ready. Once the muffins were done you set them to cool. You decided to add loaded smashed potatoes to the menu for the night, so you set potatoes on the stove to boil. Once they were done, you’d smash them onto a cooking sheet before loading them with cheese, bacon bits and chives and would bake them until the cheese melted. They were also one of Jake’s favorites. The two of you had done most of the cooking growing up. He’d loved it when you’d learned to cook, and had happily turned that task over to you.
“Hello?” You heard a voice from the front room.
“In here!” You called, continuing to move around the kitchen, preparing the dinner. You figured Jake’s friends knew to just come on in.
“Damn, it smells amazing in here.” Bradley said, stepping into the kitchen, holding a small bouquet of flowers. You felt warmth creep over your face and it had nothing to do with the stove being on.
“Hopefully it all tastes just as good.” You replied, smiling.
“I’m sure it will.” He said, then remembering the flowers, he blushed slightly, holding them out to you. “I brought these for you.”
“They’re beautiful, Bradley.” You replied, smiling as you gently took to flowers, “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome” He said, smiling back, “Didn’t want to come empty handed when you were gracious enough to invite us all for dinner. Thank you for saving me from my own cooking.”
“Jake said some of you cooked better than others.” You laughed, cutting the stems and placing the flowers into a pitcher as a makeshift vase. “I’m happy to cook for you all. You’ve been a huge help since I showed up on Jake’s doorstep, this is the least I can do. I also told him I’m making this a weekly thing, so whoever is available can come over and I’ll feed everyone.”
“You’re a goddess.” He declared, winking, “You should know that strays, when fed…keep coming back.”
“It’s a good thing then that I don’t mind picking up strays.” You laughed, opening the fridge. “Do you want a beer?”
“I’d love one, Y/N.” He replied, “Thank you.”
You handed him the beer, reaching back in to grab one for yourself. You popped the cap off the bottle and took a drink before setting it down on the counter.
“Can you do me a favor and run these out to Jake?” You asked, picking up the platter of ribs, “They need to go on the grill.”
“Absolutely.” He replied, taking the platter and his beer and heading out to the backyard.
You took a deep breath, finding yourself smiling as you continued to prepare dinner.
Everyone started arriving after Bradley got there, including Mav who had graciously accepted the offer to not eat his own cooking as well. You’d managed to get the rest of the food prepared and set out on the counter so they could come through buffet style and pile food on their plates. You plated some of the food you knew Gracie would like and be able to eat on her plate, getting her set up at the table. Bob, Phoenix, Bradley, Jake and Mav sat around the table. Coyote, Fanboy and Payback sitting at the kitchen island with their food.
You sat down between Gracie and Bradley once everyone had their food and were settled.
“This. is. AMAZING, Y/N.” Coyote groaned in delight, digging into his meal. “I’ve died and gone to Heaven.”
“I will definitely have to run extra miles tomorrow,” Fanboy added, “Extra time in the gym for sure once I fill up on all of this.”
“Thank you for feeding me.” Bob said, “This is the best meal I’ve had since I was home last year for Christmas.”
“I’m glad you like it.” You smiled, heat creeping over your face at the praise. You weren’t really used to people complimenting your cooking. Trent had always complained it wasn’t good enough.
“I told y’all you were in for a treat.” Jake said, beaming at you, “Y/N offered to feed you heathens once a week. Dagger squad weekly dinner?”
“I am so here.” Phoenix said, “But Y/N, you are not cooking every week. That’s not fair to you.”
“I honestly don’t mind.” You shrugged, “I like cooking.”
“Well, we’ll at least help.” Bradley added, “Or order takeout occasionally to give you a break.”
“Ordering takeout defeats the purpose of a home cooked dinner night.” You laughed.
“OK then occasionally you let us grill or something so you’re not doing it all.” Bradley suggested, “I mean, we can pretty much all grill at least.”
“I suppose,” You acquiesced, “But only occasionally.”
“We’ll negotiate the frequency later.” Jake added, knowing how stubborn his little sister was. “Who’s up for the zoo tomorrow?”
“Zoo!” Gracie cheered, “Aminals?”
“Princess G has spoken.” Jake laughed, “Yea, baby girl, we’ll go see animals!”
“I’m in!” Bradley said, winking at Gracie, “Wanna see some lions and tigers, Princess?”
“Wions! Woaw!” Gracie clapped, giggling.
Everyone laughed at her imitation of a lion. You brushed her hair back from her face, dropping a kiss on her head. It made you heart melt to see your little girl happy and surrounded by people who loved her. Jake, catching your gaze, offered a smile and a wink. He knew this was all still really new to you.
“I’d love to see some animals!” Bob added, “Can I come too, Gracie?”
“Yes!” Gracie said, causing everyone to laugh.
“Alright, then!” Jake said, “Dagger squad field trip to the zoo!”
After dinner you’re clearing away the leftovers, placing everything into containers and putting it in the fridge when Phoenix comes into the kitchen with Jake. You picked up a dishcloth and dunked it into the soapy dishwater to start the dishes.
“Put down the rag and step away from the dishes” Jake ordered, “Get yourself a drink and go sit down. Relax.”
“You cooked,” Phoenix said, “That means no kitchen clean up.”
“No arguments, Tulip.” Jake said, seeing you were about to protest. “Drink and go relax.”
“Yes, Sir.” You mock saluted him, then tossed a smile at Phoenix as you grabbed a beer and left the kitchen.
You walked into the living room to see Payback, Coyote, and Fanboy on the couch and floor playing a video game on the TV. Bradley, Mav and Bob were entertaining Gracie with all of her toys in the corner of the living room. You smiled as you watched the three grown men playing dolls with your toddler. You quickly pulled out your phone, snapping a picture before you made your way over to them.
“Mommy, pway too?” Gracie said, looking up from her toys. Bradley looked up, smiling at you, scotting over to give you room to join them all.
“Mommy would love to play, Gracie.” You replied, setting your beer down on the cabinet before dropping down to the floor to join the baby doll party. “In the interest of full disclosure, I definitely snapped a picture of you three playing dolls with Gracie. I fully plan to add it to a picture show at her wedding someday.”
“Wow.” Mav laughed, “She’s already getting blackmail photos.”
“I for one am happy to contribute to happy memories for this cute little Princess.” Bob said, handing Gracie a princess doll.
“I will happily embarrass myself if it makes the two of you smile.” Bradley agreed, reaching over to ruffle Gracie’s hair.
“She is an amazing little girl, Y/N.” Mav said, “You’ve done a wonderful job with her. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.”
“Thank you.” You whispered, suddenly choked up. “You have no idea how much it means to hear that.”
Bradley reached over, gently squeezing your shoulder in comfort, offering a gentle smile.
You let Gracie continue to play for a few more minutes until Jake and Phoenix were done in the kitchen. You smiled watching them laugh together over something as they walked into the living room to join the rest of the rest of the group.
Bradley leaned over so he could whisper, “I see your game plan, Little Seresin. Count me in.” He winked when you shot him a guilty smirk.
“Gracie girl, it’s bath time!” You told your daughter. “Tell everyone thank you for playing with you.”
She toddled over, hugging them one by one. When she got to Bradley, flashed him a big toothy grin. Your daughter had good taste in men, you had to admit. She was clearly taken with him. He hugged her tightly and dropped a kiss on her head before releasing her.
“Have fun, Princess.” He said, “Get squeaky clean!”
“Otay, Woosta!” She agreed, letting you lead her away.
“I’ll tuck you in and read you a book when you’re all clean, Princess G!” Jake promised his niece.
“Otay, Unco Jakey!” She said happily.
You got her into the bath, washing her hair and body before letting her play for a bit. She loved the water and bath time so you always hated to rush her.
While watching her scoop water with her toys, someone knocked on the door.
“It’s open!” You called. Phoenix poked her head in, smiling.
“Mind if I come in?” She asked
“Join the party!” You invited her. She opened the door further, stepping in.
“Thanks again for having us all over for dinner.” She said, “And for offering to put up with us all once a week to feed us.”
“It’s really no trouble at all” You promised, “I’m happy to have you all here. So is Jake. He might not admit it often or freely, but you all mean the world to him. He loves having you all here.”
“It’s nice to see him with Gracie…and with you.” She said, “He’s softer.”
“I hate to ruin his street cred but Jake’s always been a softy” You said, “He just had to develop a harder shell because of our parents.”
“I like the softer Jake….” She admitted, “Maybe too much. It’ll only end up complicating things.”
“I have a feeling it’s a whole lot less complicated than you think.” You said, “And for the record, I’m pretty positive that Jake likes you too.”
“Mommy, me done.” Gracie said, standing up in the tub.
“Ok, Sweet girl,” You said, “Let’s get you out and ready for bed.”
“I’m gonna head out, but I’ll see you tomorrow for the zoo.” Phoenix said, “Goodnight, Sweetheart.”
“Night!” Gracie said, smiling at her.
“See you tomorrow, Y/N.” She said.
“Goodnight, Nat.” You smiled. You got Gracie out, wrapping her in a towel and carrying her to her room. You got her into her PJs and combed her hair, drying it as best you could with the towel. Tomorrow would be a pigtail day for sure.
You were getting her settled into her bed when Jake appeared in the room.
“My girl ready for me?” He asked.
“She’s all yours, Uncle Jakey.” You smiled. Before leaving the room you bent over and gave her baby girl a kiss, “Goodnight my little Angel. I love you. Sweet Dreams.”
“Wuv you Mommy.” She smiled back sweetly.
You picked up the wet towel and took it back to the bathroom, hanging it over the shower to dry before making your way back out the living room. Everyone had left except for Bradley who was picking up the toys and placing them all back into the toybox in the corner.
“You didn’t have to do that.” You said, smiling as you popped down onto the oversized stuffed chair next to the couch. “Thank you, though.”
“It’s not a problem at all.” He replied, “It was just a few dolls and their accessories.”
“For someone so small, Gracie is a single toddler tornado some days.” You laughed, “Keeping up with her is a full time job in and of itself.”
“I can only imagine.” He replied, offering a smile as he lowered himself down onto the couch. “She’s great though. She naturally pulls you in. I swear she can make anyone fall in love with her in 5 seconds flat.”
“Apparently not her father.” You replied, sighing, “But pretty much everyone else yeah. She’s my whole world.”
“He’s a worthless bastard with no spine.” Bradley said, his voice taking on an angry edge to it. “He doesn’t deserve Gracie. Or you for that matter. He sure as fuck doesn’t deserve the title of ‘father’.”
“You’re very sweet, Bradley.” You smiled, “I’m kinda hoping that soon, he won’t be anything to either of us.”
“I hope so too.” He agreed. “You both deserve so much more, Y/N.”
You felt butterflies take flight in your stomach at his words. It had been a long time since you’d felt those.
“Can I get you a drink?” You asked, trying to keep from being awkward, “There’s leftover dessert too if you would like some of that.”
“I should actually get going, but thank you.” He said, flashing a sincere smile your way, “Dinner really was amazing and I’m already looking forward to next week.”
“Let me know if you ever have any special requests.” You offered, “I’m always game to make new things.”
“I just might take you up on that.” He replied, “I’ll see you tomorrow for the zoo. Make sure to lock the door behind me, ok?”
“Be ready to chase after Gracie.” You teased, “She’s a handful. And I’ll lock it behind you.”
Jake came in shortly after Bradley had left. You were on the chair again, your head laid back on the cushion.
“She’s out.” He said, sitting on the end of the couch closest to you. “Thanks for tonight, Tulip. It was really nice having everyone over.”
“You’re welcome Jakey.” You replied, rolling your head to face him, too tired to pick it up off the back of the chair. “They’re a lot of fun. I like them.”
“You’ve definitely secured yourself a squad full of best friends now.” Jake chuckled, “How did it go with the lawyer? We haven’t had a chance to talk since I got home.”
“It went really well.” You reported, “She’s going to take the case and said she’d charge at a very discounted rate. She thinks I should file an order of protection too to be on the safe side and that any contact with him will go through her.”
“That’s amazing, Tulip!” He said , his whole face lighting up with a smile. “Did she give a timeline?”
“Not really. She’s going to get papers started to serve him.” You said, “She said he might start calling more or escalate once he’s served, which is also why she wants me to file an order of protection.”
“I fully support that.” Jake said, “I also wouldn’t put it past him to come out here, Tulip. We need to make sure you and Gracie are safe.”
“I don’t think he’d come all the way out here, Jakey.” You said, “His pride will be hurt but really I’m giving him what he wanted… to be free of my and Gracie.”
“Don’t underestimate him, Y/N.” Jake insisted, “I’ve heard the messages he’s left you and for me. I’ll feel better if we take precautions to keep you both safe.”
“I’ll be careful.” You promised, “I’m mostly with you anyway except for when you’re on base. Penny offered me a job today too. She said she needs someone to help with paperwork and the inventory side of things…I told her I need to work out childcare but I’d get back to her.”
“I can ask on base for recommendations for a sitter or daycare.” Jake offered, “Someone’s got to have good reliable sitters.”
“They can’t cost an arm and a leg though either.” You said, “Working just to pay daycare defeats the purpose.”
“I’ll ask around.” Jake said, “In the meantime, you are well past exhausted. Go get some sleep, Tulip. We’ve got a big day at the zoo ahead of us.”
“You’re right.” You replied, stretching as you got up. “Goodnight Jakey. I love you.”
“I love you too, Tulip.” He answered, “Sweet dreams.”
After you headed to your room, Jake checked all of the doors, making sure they were locked, before he turned out the lights and found his way to his own bed.

⭐ Favorite color:
i honestly have had some 'color opinions' sloshing through my head for a while.. its complicated but you can rarely go wrong with these ones 👆 these are the ones I like the most! specially when combined together!
for favorites.. it depends a lot on how you use the colors and if they're alone or accompanied! some things look bad if they're just completely sky blue and such..
(putting this under a read more bc its a Very long post)
for the purposes of having an ultimate favorite color.. man i honestly don't know. it's a completely even match between purple and blue, though only the non-100% saturated shades of blue bc true blue is quite unbearable. I think the ultimate champion in questions of how many things can work with it would be blue. sometimes too much purple can be unbearable, but too much blue not so much
red Can be beautiful in many cases, but orange is simply superior between pure yellow and pure red. pure yellow specifically is literally unbearable for me. i hate it so much. for me to like a yellow it HAS to be going towards orange or its nothin'. lime green is super beautiful but pure green is also too much, and so is cyan. though the specific range of teal/green-blue can be nice, but it does not come close to lime green, instead it accents it quite nicely.
we don't talk about pink. or magenta. or any of its hideous nicknames. perish the thought!
⭐ Last song played: erm. well. you see, most of the music i have downloaded came from youtube. and quite a bit of them from compilations of songs all in one usually 30+ minute video..
the one currently playing is by Lauren Bousfield. i've tried searching for the - actually paragraph cancelled. i thought it was one of the comps by the pavor nocturnus1 channel but it turned out to be from some random other channel. i was having trouble identifying which song it was because it's a single audio file but it turns out the song currently in that queue to be playing is the song Cascading Retail Spaces!

actually i suppose it'd be weird to not awnser my own questions.. well here goes:
i like the one stone pattern that's a bunch of thin slabs slotted together. the ref image i have says its name is cliffstone/bluff stone! i also like the 'bavarian castle' one!
time of day: DUSK!!! MY LOVELY DUSK!!! though dawn is veeery nice as well. i used to be fonder of the night but dusk is just sooo niceys. dawn loses points for giving way to the boring middays though. but every time of day has its charm
cloud pattern; i actually dont know their names besides cummulonimbus..? lemme search..
according to this chart ive found on ddg. nimbus! i love gray skies and i love rain and i love fog. stratus and scuds are also nice
fav animal: erm.. got myself in my own question! i dont think i have a true favorite? i suppose ill go with jerboas.. as for the family. rodents of course. im the rodent mutual how could i not choose rodents! blasphemy!
silliest animal: off the top of my head? its a worm-like animal with a goofy face.. i thought it was legless lizards but that's not quite it.. i dont remember the name 😞

last dumb mistake in a game: most recently i was trying to go back to my base in a car in project zomboid and ran straight into a insane zombie crowd. the car got stuck in the grass bc it was loaded to the brim and i tried to move it backwards and let zombies approach me with the hope i'd run away from them on time, but it was not moving and then i panicked and stepped outside the car near a zombie with the sprint key enabled, bumped into the zombie, fell on the ground and by the time the get up animation started the zombie was already eating my guy. i was so mad

I met Nancy as promised at the front of the school, spotting her notecards in her hand. Barb met up with us as I took the cards from Nancy’s hand. We walked into the school as I read the cards aloud. “When alpha particles go through gold foil, they become..?” I flipped the card over, looking at the answer on the back. “Unoccupied space,” Nancy answered.
“Very good,” I said. “A molecule that can–” I was very rudely interrupted by Steve snatching the cards from my hands. “Steven!”
“I think she’s studied enough,” Steve said, looking at the cards.
“Unlike you, she wants to pass,” I retorted.
“I passed,” he said. “With a C-minus.”
“Uh huh, sure.”
“Well, she’s got this. She doesn’t need to worry. Now, on to more important matters.” “And what the hell could be more important than a chem test?” I asked.
“My dad has left town on a conference and Mom has gone with him ‘cause you know she doesn’t trust him,” Steve explained.
“Good call,” Tommy H. said.
“Shut up, Tommy,” I said.
“Make me, Henderson.”
I lurched forward at him, Steve stopping me before I could reach him.
“Listen,” Steve said, looking me dead in the face before looking at Nancy. “So, are you in?” “In for what?” she asked.
“No parents? Big house?” Carol said.
I looked at her and sarcastically said, “Oh! You mean a party!”
“Ding, ding, ding!”
I guess Steve knew I wanted to launch myself at her because he said quietly, “Liv, stop.” “It’s Tuesday,” Nancy said.
“It’s Tuesday,” Tommy mocked.
“Stuff it, zitface,” I warned.
“Come on,” Steve said. “It’ll be lowkey. It’ll just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?” He looked at me, asking the same thing with his eyes.

3- ok so my process is basically non-existent, but i'll walk you through it anyway. so i'll have an idea for a scene literally at any point. sometimes it can be a single sentence or sometimes it can be a vague concept, but i always write it down. if i have my phone it's almost always going in my notes app. from there, i just kind of expand on the idea as it develops when i get back to my laptop. i tend to write the exciting and important scenes first in a very rough fashion, and then go back to fill in the blanks. then i go back and polish by combing over it for grammar mistakes and adding a few more details. that's pretty much it!

20- i use a lot of rain imagery i think. actually i use a lot of weather imagery bc i'm annoyinggg. and then ofc i use aspects of my trauma in most of my fics (even ones you wouldn't suspect) but no one really would pick up on that since y'all don't know, but themes of abuse are certainly littered through out. obviously biblical imagery, too. i can't think of any phrases, SO IF YOU KNOW OF SOME THAT YOU NOTICED I'VE USED A LOT LEMME KNOW.
24- the worst advice i've ever gotten is if you're stuck, delete everything and start over. absolutely not. you can start over, but i wouldn't ever delete anything. even if i don't use lines in one fic, i can always recycle and put it somewhere else. NEVER DELETE. YOU'LL REGRET IT. TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.
33- YES I WANT TO BE PUBLISHED. i have so many original novel ideas and i want to write southern gothic literature so badly. i doubt it will ever happen but that's the dream. i would also really like to write my own plays :))) but for now, i'm sticking to universes and characters i'm already familiar with

My problem with s2 arc for Yen is that all the things you beautifully described that makes Yen Yen were undone by her betrayal. They spend the first half of the season to show us that Yen is more than her magic, she didnt even need magic to win a powerful mage but then with two simple soldiers she's powerless and needs baba yaga and then at no point she can outsmart voleth meir? She didn't even had her in a spell or anything, it was simple: do that and get your power back and at no point Yen, after meeting Geralt and Ciri, couldn't fight it? That makes her weak, the opposite of what the first episodes showed us and we know that Yennefer is. Also the fact that she showed her good heart with everyone in s2 but the two people that were supposed to mean everything in the world for her, is imo the ultimate book Yen betrayal from the writers. Maybe they'll work on that in s3, maybe now i'm mad with the writers and I don't have the patience to see where this is going but I doubt they are talented enough to write a great original story so to deviate from the book to give us this makes me angry. And her sacrifice at the end didn't felt genuine for some reason (bad writing). And I still wonder why, show Yen - like every character in the show - was different from book Yen in s1 too but she was so well written, you could feel everything she felt but that was gone in s2. Lauren said that they didn't know what to do with Yen in s2 and that was shown. Hopefully now that in s3 they have a clearer idea of her story they'll do better. Sorry for the rant and I hope I didn't bother you a lot.

This was in response to my post on how TWN S2 treated the women characters. It was mostly positive, with a few critical things.
Again, since there is critique in it (along with the praise, it is balanced) I'm going to tag twn critical.

Yes, even though I loved a lot of Yen's story, I agree that the Voleth Meir and Ciri decision didn't work.
It wasn't about them changing Yen from canon (tho that hurt), it was about their own story not working. For me, Yen's Voleth Meir decision, to bring Ciri to her and endanger Ciri (changing her mind too late), was in conflict with the first part of her development, and that is part of why it didn't work for me.
For example, they show you Yen upset and wanting her magic back because she sees a little girl being taken and she is powerless to help her.
So, the narrative is establishing that she does care and she does want to help, and she wants to protect little girls SO MUCH that she wants her magic back.
So. Then. If at least part of her motivation is her anguish that little girls are being harmed, how does that follow that she almost throws a little girl to Voleth Meir to get her power back? It doubles back on itself. It wants to have its cake and eat it too, so to speak.
It isn't IMPOSSIBLE to get there but it's thematically weak storytelling for me.
You know how some story telling and character development is thematically so cohesive and you completely understand why they do what they do to the point where it's almost tragic sometimes because you're like...that decision is bad, but I know where that character comes from and what their flaws are, so I know this is almost inevitable? You know how you get like a rush from storytelling that good?
That just wasn't it for me.
I'm with you on that one.
And I also agree that they have gone out of their way to develop Yen as someone who, when faced with an A) and B) choices, says "Actually, I'll take F) for Fuck you" and I love that, that is exactly who she is, but then her Voleth Meir decision didn't fit that either.
It just felt jammed in. And yeah, I don't think it's possible to undo and get the relationship we would want between them, at least not in a way that is satisfying and authentic.
But I will be watching, and we shall see. I want them to do my Yenny boo right ffs.
