since we're at it i'm gonna share another rioplatense idiom i had never heard until yesterday: "encontrarle el agujero al mate" 🧉 which i won't translate literally because it'd sound very funny in english but metaphorically means "to find a way (to do something)".

i have no proof of this but i get the sense "inventarle el agujero al mate" is probably an older idiom from which the first one derives. that one could be translated to "reinvent the wheel" i suppose, as in "to attempt to fix a non-existent problem"
