Uh... Strap in and strap on, because my theory might surprise you.

Now y'all who know me know that I am a Style girly. In fact, I have Kyman tags blocked because I dislike seeing the ship so much. Genuinely, I do not understand the appeal of such an objectively toxic pairing in a romantic sense, nor do I like the idea of sanitizing Cartman for the sake of making him palatable and 'good enough' (however you may define that) to be with Kyle.

HOWEVER!

I think the reason Kyman remains popular has less to do with the ship itself, and has more to do with how goddamn fun the dynamic between Kyle and Cartman is.

Let's be honest, those two carry the show. They are nearly perfect foils that are both fallible enough to flex their morals juuuust enough to put them on the same side just as often as they're pitted against one another.

Anyone who has written an interaction between these two will tell you it's fun as hell. I'm constantly thinking about arguments they can have, and how to escalate them into some pretty ridiculous storylines.

I think this is where the separation of Style and Kyman shippers comes in.

Y'all might hate me for this take, but I think a lot of Style shippers... Do not understand Kyle because they don't actually know how to reconcile with his negative traits.

Kyle is a self-righteous, shrill little prick that, above nearly all else, loves to be right. Is he also compassionate and kind and intelligent and (typically) a decent friend? Sure! All of these things can be true at the same time, though.

In the same way that I dislike how Cartman often gets sanitized for Kyman to work, I really dislike the way Kyle gets sanitized to make Style work. I think that's where we get this divide in depictions of him. Style shippers are showing Kyle as a sweet little bottom that occasionally gets a little mad, but can't really hold his own in a lot of situations. He is a prize for Stan to win, or something precious for him to protect. Meanwhile Kyman shippers see Kyle as an antagonist towards Cartman; someone for him to butt heads with as an equal.

At least, that's what I sort of assume. There are certainly many exceptions to this, but I won't get into the general damselification of Kyle Broflovski here. (But I see you Kymannies tying that man up in a basement somewhere. Just read Killing Stalking dude like damn leave my son alone).

But anyway, the reason that many Kyman shippers seem to understand Kyle because, imo, they don't shy away from those negative traits. They're already shipping him with Cartman for Christ's sake, the closest thing to a literal piece of shit since Mr. Hankey (love you though bby mwah), and as I previously expressed the dynamic between those two is just more fun when they're both assholes to each other, albeit often in different ways.

I could literally talk all day about why I love Cartman and Kyle's dynamic, and why one-sided Kyman is supported by the canon (on Cartman's side), but I've already done too much here. Sorry OP, I had thoughts I needed to get off my chest apparently.

Kyle monitors Eric's Twitter/X so he doesn't get banned

They probably watch a shit ton of movies, but Kyle heavily dislikes horror movies, and his least favorite is Human Centipede. They've watched it once, and Kyle hates it. He'd leave the room if Cartman ever tried to get him to watch it again

Kyle sends Eric an alarming amount of Instagram reels/TikToks/dumb shit when he's severely bored

Not entirely Kyman, but Eric is genderfluid (Kyle doesn't care as long as they're both comfortable)

After a while, Eric begins to read the Torah (I think that's the name of the Jewish scripture. Please correct me if I'm wrong) (and when I say after a while, I mean six months to a year)

Eric also thinks about openly converting to Judaism (he does!!)

Shockingly, Eric can cook and bake (he's a housewife fr /j)

They have like 5 million cats (2. It's 2 cats.)

Kyle always steals Eric's clothes because they're "dirty" (he wears them)

Eric wears glasses, and though he hates them, Kyle loves them

Cartman overexaggerating absolutely everything in their relationship

Eric is learning how to make traditional Jewish meals, especially for holidays (like Hanukkah). He comes over one winter to celebrate with the Broflovskis. Makes a perfect Latke or whatever it's called.

Sheila isn't pleased to have him over. Kyle thinks it'll be a disaster.

Sheila is very hesitant to try the latkes. She is pleasantly shocked when it's wonderful

Also, Eric gets along with everyone in the Broflovskis family eventually.

He's a sweet and pleasant boy in front of Sheila. An absolute terror with Ike (they probably bond by gaming together), and he's worse when he and Gerald are trolling people online.

Kyle has no idea what or how Eric is getting along, but he's slightly suspicious of it, nonetheless

Eric and Sheila talk about Kyle's hair all the time.

Rewatching the "cartman finds love" episode and ohmygod, I absolutely love how literally no one is even skeptical of the fact that Kyle and cartman are apparently an item, even when it's literally coming from cartman, like the girls just straight up believe that kyle is gay and that's just so damn hilarious to me

Also one note about cartmans behavior, I love how he could have just like just used butters, and not himself for the couple plot. HE DIDN'T NEED TO DO THAT BUT HE DID. Its definitely my favorite part of the episodr

Kyman YouTuber x Twitch streamer au where they are both popular creators on their both respective platforms yet literally both them and their fans hate each other with a extreme burning passion

Cartman was already like canonically a YouTuber(the cartmanbrah thing) but I do think he'd fit better as a twitch streamer, anyways he would definitely be like a ishowspeed type of streamer, where he's so controversial it leads to infamy to actual fame, for every hater he has, he has 3 more fans that find him incredibly hilarious. He'd definitely be aware of his notoriety and try profitting off of it, although he'd probably slow down over time because he doesn't want any of the sponsors to drop him LMAO.

Now over to Kyle, I think he'd have like the total opposite of Cartmans career, where Cartman blew up incredibly fast because of his persona, Kyle would have started earlier and overtime rose to popularity,at first he'd definitely be one of those "hidden gems" type of youtubers, where he has a small but dedicated fanbase that enjoy the variety of his content. I think he'd have like many types of videos(video essays and raising awareness for other important topics) at first, his videos are quite awkward and janky but overtime you can see him improve him as his mic quality gets better and his videos get more detailed, he'd be known for a few very popular call-out videos he made for other creators, his fans would love him because of of his sincerity and how he isn't afraid to call out other people on their bs, and whereas Cartman is loud and brash, Kyle is very polite and civil(even in his call-out videos) and he very rarely gets mad or rages out loud in his videos(well until cartman shows up in his videos LMAO)

I think they'd both blow up at the same time and get extreme amounts of attention, Cartman because of his streaming and his very horrid remarks and Kyle because of a very well-researched 3 HOURS long video essay where the topic/title is basically "How content creators breed toxicity in their community and others" with a HUGE png of cartman slapped onto the thumbnail. (Most of the segments are basically about Cartman with passing mentions of other creators) Anyways his fans would notice a big difference in his behavior in this new video because of how frustrated he is LMAO and how much he uses subjective language, "HES A RUDE, MANIPULATIVE SOCIOPATHIC ANTISEMITIC ASSHOLE WHO HAS NO REGARD FOR ANYONE ELSE AND HIS FANS AND SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE PLATFORM" he'd def gain new fans from this but I think cartmans fans would find the video and start clowning/spam the comment section and Kyles new and old fans would defend him and now both of their fambases are basically waging war on each other

(Also even before the essay or when they both gained fame, Cartman would tweet about how much Kyles videos/channel suck ON HIS MAIN ACCOUNT like "Wow Kyle looks extra bitchy in this video, Is he on his period?/ Kyle uses so much of his jew brain in this video yet his conclusion here is much so dumb like multiverses are____"

Anyways Cartman would sooo definitely tease the shit of Kyle after that video, he'd be like "Kahl, obviously, I'm your reason for fame you shouldn't treat me so- AW SHIT, KIYAL THAT FUCKINH HURTS" and Kyle "Your fatass deserves it"

Also they would narrowly avoid being cancelled because of their behavior towards each other, Cartman for his (implied) antisemitism calling Kyle a jew many times as an insult and Kyle for his (very direct) fatphobia towards Cartman lmao fortunately when anyone tries to cancel the two of them, both of their fanbases put aside their differences and defend them from everything.

Just wait until the yaoi fangirls(us) find them and kickstart a new saga LMAOO

Cartman knows how messed up their business module is but he doesn't care because they rank in so much cash daily unlike Kyle, who basically has many sleepless nights to himself justifying how the company is secretly helping the society or really good for the workers etc etc and I don't doubt he'd be afraid to voice them out loud LMAO maybe he tries to ask Stan to join and their exchange goes:

Stan: I don't know dude, isn't this like- really messed up?

Kyle: Oh cmon, just how it is messed up? We're doing good for the environment and we give lots of benefits to our workers!

Stan: You guys literally give out contracts to homeless people to sign for free housing for three months then harvest their organs all under the guise of the contract.

Kyle: Well, yea but- they're the ones that signed the contracts. And we have like diversity hires and maternity leave for mothers, isn't that good?
