"Lalala~ Hmmmm~" You hummed while watering your precious garden. Your garden had plenty of flowers, a few herbs and shrubs, and one sakura tree. Every day, a certain redhead gives you different kinds of flowers as a gift. You loved the redhead, he was kind, polite, and most of all, handsome. Shuichi Minamino, your ideal boyfriend. You wished that the redhead was your boyfriend, but he is nothing more than a best friend. Well, that's what you always thought. Though, a certain brunette told you that Shuichi had fallen for you, which you actually didn't believe. But there is a possibility, is there?

"I hope Shuichi would visit me today..." You mumbled to yourself, pouting a bit. You are living alone, both of your parents were working abroad. And Shuichi always visits you at your place to keep you company, which is why you are always expecting him to come. After you finished watering the flowers, you wipe away the sweat on your face then place the water bucket back in its place. You smile to yourself while admiring your finished work. "Might as well as clean myself" You stated then entered the house. You removed your gardening clothes and then headed to the bathroom.

You entered inside and then locked the door. You strip all of your dirty clothes then put them inside the hamper. You step inside the shower and then turn it on. "Hmmmm~ I wonder what kind of flower Shuichi will give me today~" You wondered while thoroughly cleaning your body. After showering, you exit the bathroom with your bathrobe and then head towards your room. Once you enter inside, you search for a clean dress in your closet. You got out a [f/c] Chinese dress that reaches your ankle, it is strapless, covers your neck, and has a slip from the end up to your knee. You dried your [h/c] hair using a hair blower and then tied it into [f/h]. You put on some powder and a lip gloss. "Shuichi will be here any moment now," You said, putting the lip gloss down on your table.

Just after you finished, there was a knock on the door. "Coming!" You yelled while hurrying down the stairs. When you arrived in front of the door, you opened it quickly with glee. Standing outside your door revealed a handsome young man with crimson hair and emerald eyes. "This is for you, milady" He gave you a bouquet of several different flowers. "Thank you" You accepted the gift and then smelled the fragrant flowers. "Come in" You step aside for him to enter. Once he was inside, you unwrapped the bouquet and placed the bundle of flowers in a large vase filled with water. Shuichi sat on the couch and admired your features, he had to admit, you look gorgeous in that dress.

"I'll make some tea, Shuichi. Please stay here for a while" You informed him as you entered the kitchen, your dress trailing behind. "Take your time, [Name]" Shuichi replied. While waiting for you, the redhead played with his signature rose. "My love is sweet as the rose..." He muttered, smiling to himself. "Here" A cup of tea was placed on the coffee table in front of the redhead, he snapped out from his gaze and then smiled at you. "You're welcome" You understood what his smile meant and then smiled back, sitting next to him. "Hey, Shuichi" You called, tugging on his sleeve a bit. "Yes?" He looked at you after he took a sip of his tea. "Care for some quotes that I made?" You asked, eyes pleading for him to say yes. "Of course" He chuckled then placed the cup down.

"Okay, here it is" You took a deep breath then straightened your posture. "Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food, and medicine to the soul" Shuichi smiled at your first quote. The flowers that surround your place inspired you to make quotes about it, and he is proud of you because of that. "Flowers are the music of the ground. From earth's lips spoken without sound," There comes the second one. "Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature" The third. "Love is the flower you've got to let grow" This one earns the redhead's attention. "Life is a flower, so precious in your hand" This one is about life. "A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love" is another one that earns his attention.

"Really [Name]?" He smiled. "I don't know, I just thought about it" You shrugged. He referred the question to your 6th quote. He just smiled. "The rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart" You continued, eyes closed while reciting the quote. You personally love this quote, and a certain green-eyed male started a liking to it too. "Well, that's it! Do you like it?" You said, turning your attention to him. He is awestruck, you can say that he liked your quotes very much. "That was wonderful, [Name]" He complimented. "Thanks" You blushed at his compliment. "But you know..." He said, earning your full attention. "My love is sweet as the rose" He stated. He looked at you and locked eyes with yours for a while, you could melt under his beautiful gaze. You didn't also realize that your face is only an inch apart from him, before slowly leaning in. Both of your lips touched and you stayed like that for a while, kissing your beloved future boyfriend.

Minato & Kushina: A "Deep Dive" Analysis (Section A, Part III)

Today we will conclude Section A on Minato and Kushina as each other's anchors. (Parts I and II here.)

Picking up where we left off in Gaiden, we have Kushina’s coming-to…

…and the climaxing showdown with Kurama.

(Section A) III. Minato and Kushina as unified anchors

Now it must be emphasized that, as the manga has shown all along, Minato and Kushina rival Kurama together. There is no ‘Minato fights Kurama’ or ‘Minato wins ��with Kushina’s help,’ as many fans have misread. The two are a duo, a uniform team; two equal halves of ONE. And ONLY against these two equal halves of one TOGETHER is Kurama overcome. That is how it is here. That is how it is the night they save the village. And that is how it is with Kurama’s redemption (the baby born of their love, half-Minato-half-Kushina, fulfilling their legacy).

To make this abundantly clear, Kishimoto filled the oneshot with notes to Kushina’s prowess. So let us consider the showdown within its proper context.

The chapter opens with Iwa’s two jinchūriki saying to an outmatched Team Jiraiya, “If you really wanna fight us you better bring Nine Tails’ jinchūriki.” Their use of Bijū Bombs tells us they would be rivaled by Kurama’s power. And it tells us Minato is no match for Son and Kokuō’s, who, put together, are weaker than Kurama by himself. Thus Minato by himself (let alone with a Sannin) cannot match two Bombs weaker than one from Kurama. “...you better bring Nine Tails’ jinchūriki.” The very opening line foreshadows Minato and Kushina fighting together.

A few pages later, Kushina meets her keepers, saying she has “sealing jutsu training with Namikaze Minato.” The next page reveals she is teaching Minato Uzumaki fūinjutsu. When Minato augments her seal in his own style, he is adding to and enhancing a jutsu he learned from Kushina. “I promise to go all out again today!” (Kushina has been giving these lessons her all and Minato has more than kept up.) “You pick up things real quick, Minato. And there are still tons of Uzumaki clan sealing jutsu WE haven’t covered yet, so...” (They have been doing this together for quite a while.)

Skipping forward (in flashback), Mito remarks that Kushina has “much more lustrous hair” (strength) than her – i.e. Kushina will surpass the woman who sealed the full Nine Tails inside of herself. This flashbacks takes place a few years ago. And we have seen a 24-year-old Kushina give birth, have Kurama extracted, subdue him while at death’s door, and offer to fully seal him back and drag him with her into death all within the same hour. At death’s door. Are we for a moment to assume she didn’t have even a portion of this power as a teenager? Why is this emphasis of Kushina surpassing Mito important? Because it is a mirror parallel: Minato has “a most powerful shinobi ranking alongside First Hokage Hashirama;” Kushina is “a strong child” with “much more lustrous hair than [First Hokage Hashirama’s wife Uzumaki Mito].”

While Minato is creating the Rasengan, Kushina with implied ease binds her ANBU guards (two of the top jōnin in the village) with both unable to break free. One thinks to himself how her binding power is getting stronger with age – implying that it may not be the first time she has done this.

The jutsu common to dying-Kushina, the ANBU-binding, and the present fight against Kurama is her Adamantine Sealing Chains. What do these Chains seal? Chakra. What is Nine Tails? A breathing mass of chakra. Where is she currently sealing him? Inside the seal binding him inside her. He is not at his full fighting capacity.

So we are inside Kushina’s seal by which Kurama is already bound. He has struck and stabbed Minato (we’ll get to Minato’s nerfing in a moment) and is wrestling Kushina for control – i.e. Minato and Kushina are also not at their full fighting capacity. Kurama is forming a Bijū Bomb in his (breaking) binds while Kushina is further binding him with her Chains. Our weakened Minato uses Rasengan against Kurama’s weakened Bijū Bomb and manages to match it enough to fix Kushina’s seal in a double knockout.

Minato is seriously underrated. But let us not forget: so is Kushina. And it is their combined, two-halves-as-one power that defeats Kurama. Just like their final fight which saves Konoha.

Now onto Minato’s nerfing. Kushina is knocked down and he is stabbed in her seven-tailed bijūfication. Kushina screams for him to leave her and save himself, but he refuses. If this isn’t a display of utter, unwavering devotion I don’t know what is. With a literal hole through his stomach, Minato tells her that he will never leave her.

But let us backtrack even further. First, Minato has been training all day. Since he returned from the battlefield. Creating his A-rank jutsu. The training grounds are covered in craters he made, and he promised Jiraiya he would rest. This is no run-of-the-mill practice session. He is exhausted. (Similar, to note, as he is the night of Naruto’s birth. He – excruciatingly – keeps Kushina’s seal together throughout her entire labor.)

Second, the wound Minato has already received – from chakra tail one – was no run-of-the-mill slap. Recall a parallel when Naruto bijūfies and Sakura, trying to call him back, takes a similar hit. It effectively poisons her; Kurama’s chakra seeping through her wound and numbing her body. Even after she heals herself with medical ninjutsu and is later healing Naruto.

Sakura was struck by a manifesting half-Kurama. But Kushina, unlike her son, had the full Kurama inside her. Take the damage that Sakura – the Hokage’s apprentice and a medic-nin more adept than anyone in the whole Sand Village – took, and double it. That is Minato’s blow.

Poisoned (essentially) and stabbed (foreshadowing his future death), our man is facing losing odds. On top of having worked on his jutsu all day, expending a considerable amount of chakra. Yet in his endurance FOR Kushina (inspired BY Kushina's endurance as we noted last post) he realizes a way through. What a man. And thus, we have the climaxing resolution of the vessel motif: Kurama proclaims Kushina as his “pillar” – that, in effect, he has filled her vessel. Minato, sensing his own love inside her, tells him that he is wrong.

Here we play into the ninshū lore of people sharing chakra and emotions. We’ve seen it with the Sage bestowing ninjutsu. We’ve seen it with Naruto and the Allied Shinobi. Here at last, Kushina realizes her vessel full, and Minato, feeling those feelings, projects himself into the seal. This can also be viewed in terms of being a seal itself. Kurama is literally sealed, permanently, within Kushina. The exact same can be said for Minato’s love. Note his language, present tense: “I exist inside Kushina at all times!!”

Finally, persisting in their love and endurance, they muster the mental and physical power to together defeat Kurama.

This parallels Naruto’s overcoming – again right to the angle – where Kushina also uses her Chains and Naruto his father's jutsu. Put together thus, this moment in Gaiden foreshadows Kurama’s defeat – where his arc will shift from vengeful monster to redeemed friend of Konoha. Moreover, it foreshadows the climax of Minato and Kushina’s arcs: their legacy as fulfilled in Naruto, for both Naruto and the village.

So in summary so far, Kushina is Minato’s anchor and Minato is Kushina’s. Each sees the other as the stronger one, while simultaneously strengthening the other. They change each other for the better, and endure, embodying what ‘Hokage’ stands for. Which brings us now to our next section concerning the wider narrative: their dream of Hokage.

I was legitimately just pruning my bookmarks the other day!! thank you so much for asking.

I don't read too much fanfic these days, and I'm picky when I do--only about grammar/punctuation and immersion though. I ship a LOT of stuff (I guess The Youth would call me a proshipper) and although I never read darkfic, I don't shy away from weirder kinks and unhealthy relationship stuff.

categorizing by pairing, if applicable. some of them are smutty, and please note that the first 3 come from FFN which doesn't have a tagging system, but there is some SA CW I'll give in advance.

KAKASAKU | my first OTP! formative fics that totally reshaped my understanding of what fanfiction could be, and how well-written chemistry can make it or break it

HOUSE OF CROWS is the quintessential kakasaku fanfic. it was written during shippuden and so is canon divergent because of that, but also tells a comprehensive story of its own right that is intriguing and well planned. excellent characterization and world building. leaves me gutted in the best way on my yearly reread.

DUTY BEFORE HONOR is another silvershine classic. I don't reread is as often as House of Crows but they are just about equal in quality. again, the chemistry between them is off the charts, and the world feels so alive.

WILL OF FIRE for me is up there with House of Crows in being essential kakasaku reading. cynchick is a multisaku champion and a wonderful storyteller. the stakes in this one are stressful, the romance tense and believable, and we once again get lovely world building and great chemistry.

ITAKISA | a pairing near and dear to me, because men who do everything wrong are so deeply relatable. they both know they don't deserve anything good ever again but they found each other!!!! ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS--

A SHARK HIDDEN INN THE LEAVES doesn't have my favorite version of Kisame, but he's plenty close enough. it's a lengthy oneshot that got me into certain *ahem* kinks. it is a very fun and wild fic that is entirely self-aware of how absurd it's being, and manages to have nothing but sincerity at the same time (and I highly recommend the author's other stories as well)

AN ORCHESTRA PLAYING ON, INSANE is a modern AU (extremely rare in my bookmarks) that absolutely tore my heart out. god is it SO much to ask for these losers to be happy?! yes, it is, and I love every moment of it

MADAMITO | a rarepair I am SUCH a sucker for that has some of the most talented authors writing for it. lots of them have ot3 elements between them and hashirama, often angsty, but stuff like that is part of the appeal for me, lol

A HANDFUL OF SKY is an unfinished fic that I genuinely think about like once a week. if it ever updates then I will be over the moon. technically hashimadamito but it hadn't quite gotten there yet

LIKE ALTARS is just such a beautiful piece of writing, mostly on madara. it is everything, that is all

BLOOD AND RIVER WATER is more mito-centric but has one of my favorite madaras of all time

YOURS ARE RATTLED BONES is another short, mito-centric but gut-wrenching piece featuring the opposite type of madara from the last one

OTHER | character-centric stuff that isn't necessarily shippy but also doesn't have a very "gen" vibe either?

A SERPENT IN THE RICE is a little series about orochimaru that makes me feel so so so many things. highly recommended

HERETIC is such a love letter to kushina, and kurama too. cannot stress enough how much I adore this one

there's a few others that I probably won't link on tumblr, mostly unhealthy and/or "problematic" smut hhfhdj but maybe I'll make a public rec list on ao3 for these different categories and stuff like that.

but yeah that's pretty much it!!! I know it's not a huge list with a lot of variety but it's what I've enjoyed over the last 15+ years in the naruto fandom.

well I think it's easy to see what tropes kishimoto likes in romantic relationships.

the idea that it's okay to break promises/go back on your word when it comes to the one you love...

getting stronger to protect your most precious person, specifically creating jutsu for them and having them as your driving force... assisting each other's strengths and fighting side by side on the battlefield... minato wanted to create a jutsu to correspond with kushina's massive chakra as a jinchuuriki. like how naruto wanted to use his wind to assist sasuke's fire, which is what they ended up doing...

not wanting to lose someone because you love them too much. the idea of living without them is too much to bear so you'd rather die with them instead...

minato saying he likes strong people, especially those stronger than him... sns admire each other's strength (and here and here), and of course sasuke's "you had a strength that I didn't". naruto saying he wanted to be cool and strong like sasuke. they balance each other out...

the idea that love saved mito, love saved kushina, love saved naruto from his hatred of being jinchuuriki. the idea that love can transcend everything. naruto changed sasuke's heart just like sasuke (and iruka) changed naruto's. during vote2 sns shed their fate, they blew off their sun and moon arms, their love overcame what their predecessors couldn't as they reconciled and resolved to work together.

unlocking new powers because of your loved one, like kushina getting the sealing chains, sasuke developing his sharingan for naruto, minato finalising the rasengan and building on kushina's seal, naruto letting the kyuubi loose because of sasuke.

kushina stabbing minato through the chest and telling him to run away to which minato says no he's not gonna leave her because he's always within kushina. sasuke stabbing naruto through the chest and all naruto can think about is how he wanted to be friends with sasuke too much.

kurama referring to kushina as 'my jinchuuriki' and minato rasengan-ing him because kushina is not his. orochimaru saying 'my sasuke' and naruto going feral because sasuke is not orochimaru's. freeing their loved one's from a villain's grasp, because their loved one should not be owned by anyone.

and just more generally, protecting each other, wanting the other to be safe and happy, being relieved when the other is okay, teasing banter between them, just normal stuff which is reciprocated :)

What did you think of that new Minato oneshot, if you've read it already? I for one, absolutely adored it! I think it had just about everything to make people happy. Cameos from other characters, lore, ladies being awesome, endearing love story... hell, Kishimoto also got to do something for Kurama too--the one character he personally wanted to win the poll!

The one shot was good, it was cool seeing Kushina in a Jinchuuriki mode, and it was funny to be reminded of how awful Minato is at naming things. Thank goodness he took inspiration for Naruto's name from Jiraiya's book, because who knows what kind of absurd name he would have come up with if left to his own imagination, lol.

The trek home didn’t take long and Naruto stopped briefly in front of the large cave in front of him. The entire village was accustomed to his kage bunshin’s running around, so no one batted an eye when he stepped out of the village walls with the excuse of wanting to do one last run of the perimeter before ending the night. Everyone assumed that once he was done, he’d simply disperse the clone.

Well, they weren’t completely wrong in that regard.

Blue eyes flickered red as Naruto approached the cave entrance, taking in the vast cavern and wincing as he felt Kurama prod at him harder. “I know, I know. Calm down, already!”

They were just wrong about which one was the clone.

Naruto inhaled deeply, grinning as he felt Kurama rumble excitedly inside of him as the familiar sweet scent filled him. It was a beautiful scent that had changed over the years as he grew, evolving from an almost cloying sweetness to an alluring temptation and now a refined scent of dignity and maturation.

He smiled tenderly, watching with fond eyes at the figure whose wrists were currently bound by the highest level of seals that kept her chakra tightly restricted. Beneath the rope were also fuinjutsu he’d created himself, adding another layer of shackles that kept her chakra sealed away.

His clone was there as well, cradling her on his lap while running his fingers through her pink locks. Funny, he never realized just how tiny Sakura-chan was at this age compared to their full grown selves. He could easily cover her entire body with his own.

Naruto licked his lips, dismissing the clone before it could start an argument about wanting to stay. His stomach throbbed as Kurama demanded to be let out. “Not now! You'll get your turn!”

He winced at the snarls inside his mind and focused more at the sight of the Sakura-chan in front of him. The one that had somehow been hurled through time to his present, but her future. Based on appearance and what she had shared before he’d knocked her out, she came from before the war, but after he’d returned back to Konoha.

Short pink hair, still chopped haphazardly due to her focus being more on training rather than getting a decent haircut. He remembered his shock at the sight of her trimming her own hair with kunai while Ino lamented that Sakura had regressed to that of a barbarian, befitting that big forehead of hers. But he’d adored that hairstyle, because it was Sakura-chan.

To him, there was no one more perfect.

Naruto frowned at the memories of his clone. Despite having order that he do nothing but protect her and stop her from escaping if she were to wake up too early, his clone, as usual, had been disobedient. There were memories of cuddling the slumbering teenage Sakura in his arms, running his hand through her hair, nuzzling her neck and inhaling deeply….

His scowl deepened.

Shikamaru was right. It just wasn’t the same as doing it himself in person.

“Sakura-chan, I’m sorry for being so rough,” Naruto cooed gently as he approached the still unconscious kunoichi, crouching down in order to lift her up from the ground. He looked around and found the den that his clone had made, having followed the instructions Kurama had given them on creating a proper “home” for their mate.

No, not mate. Naruto had been firm about that. Sakura-chan wasn’t his.

He could still remember Kurama’s cackle.

“Whatever lets you sleep at night, brat.”

Naruto settled down on the soft bed of grass and dirt, cradling Sakura-chan close to him. It was true. Sakura wasn’t his… but this Sakura-chan…

He stroked her cheek, just as his clone had done, and savored the feel of her supple skin against the rough calluses of his hand. Definitely better in person than through a clone.

Even if it was just while she was stuck in the future, this Sakura-chan could be his.

👻 Have you written holiday-themed fics? If yes, which is your fave? If not, what’s one holiday you’d want to write for, and which character(s) would the fic be for?

I guess I've written two fics that could be Holiday themed. Consume which is a NaruHina smut oneshot about Vampire!Hinata. Technically I don't mention Halloween or anything, but it was inspired during that time.

The other is The Rinne Festival which is a NaruIno fluff oneshot about the Rinne Festival from Naruto, which I sort of made into a hybrid of Christmas and a typical Japanese summer festival, which my knowledge comes from manga/anime lol. I was even going to write a scene about Naruto and Ino wearing yukata's and flirting but after doing some minor research realized those are summer time wear, and the fic I wrote takes place in the winter, basically Christmas, so I scraped that part.

Between the two I prefer Consume, I was just hitting on all cylinders when I wrote that. I wrote The Rinne Festival for an event and rushed it more than I would have liked to meet the deadline.

🤔 What’s one genre you’ve never written that you’d like to try?

A psychological horror fic, maybe not exactly horror, but I like the idea of making the bijuu something more sinister and corrupting, so it makes Naruto ill just to interact with Kurama.
