Meridia and Cuddling

Modern day AU

Meridia faced straight ahead staring into the darkness with an empty mug to her lips. Her back was impeccably straight against the headboard and her partner was fast asleep turned away from her. At least, she hoped they were fast asleep, she didn’t want to skip on this event for another night in a row.

Meridia counted her partners breathing, four second inhale, four second exhale. She shifted her gaze to her alarm clock, impatient and annoyed at the slowness of time. 10:37 PM. She pressed her cool finger tips to her heating cheeks, padding over to her vanity to set her “Fuck Necromancers” mug down. It was a gift from her partner and it was incredibly endearing. She even gifted them a public kiss for it, though she claimed it was for an inane holiday.

She glanced at her reflection in the bleak night, then the alarm clock. 10:40 PM. Meridia returned silently to her side of the bed, right on cue her partner shifted to face her. Gingerly she slipped under the covers and laid there for a moment. They hardly shifted. Meridia ignored the heat travelling to her ears. They were a full arms length away still, she took a moment to collect herself. Her love was asleep, they couldn’t see this embarrassing display.

Meridia slid closer. Carefully, as to not disturb her love. She lifted their extended arm and sling it snugly around her waist like a belt. Meridia watched their face, tense, when the shifted closer. She exhaled shakily, feeling her neck heat and hair curl at her cheek. Nothing. Blissful inattentiveness. She ignored the tickle of her hair, rubbing her partners shoulders.

Soft fabric bunched beneath Meridia’s fingers when she gripped their back, pulling them closer. Tentatively, she set their head against her own shoulder and wrapped herself around them. Their hair smelt divine, like lilac and lavender and was soft to the touch.

Meridia glances at their alarm clock. 10:50 PM. She smiled into her partners hair, patting them like a cat. She managed to snag herself an extra ten minutes of cuddle time. Her face was red but she still smiled like a giddy child.
