every time i hear that when a kpop group records a song, every member sings the entire song first and then the parts are chosen and assigned based on how it all came out, i'm kind of like. sad for those who only get two short lines or like random shouting in the bg. because if it was assigned upfront, based on "main vocals get 67% of the song, sub vocals get the rest, and *squints* who are you? ah right, sorry, you can say 'oh yeah!' twice", then... well, it's not good either, but it must be mad frustrating to sing a whole song and basically get the feedback that well you only sang one line well enough to put it in the song. or none at all. woo! yeah! come on! :(

i feel like gens should be defined retroactively and yes it is a bit sus to promote this because it’s obviously easier to compete against other 5th gen groups when there’s like three of them lol

people were saying this last year too, and there has been backlash stemming from these current conversations so i don’t think “5th gen kpop” is gonna catch on right now. i do think 5th gen will start over the near-ish future (gens are usually ~7 years, the average span of a kpop contract) since we’re 5 years into 4th gen. but i think it’s still too soon to say anything, and like i said we won’t “realize” it until it’s gone by. like i don’t think people woke up on the day the boyz debuted and said “wow this is 4th gen now.” maybe i’m wrong but i don’t think that’s how it happened ?

i also think generations usually have certain things in common that make groups a “component” of the generation, which is why sometimes people will be like “what isn’t x group a 3rd gen groups?” when they debuted in early 2018 or so

it’s hard to explain but i still think it’s two early for 5th gen. literally three of the groups listed haven’t even debuted and the other one debuted like a month ago. it’s wayyyy too early. but we will see !
