Prießnitz Manor, Frohburg, district of Leipzig-Country, Saxony
The buildings that we see today were built in the 1740s, commissioned by August von Einsiedel. In 1919, his descendants were forced to sell the estate due to accumulation of debt. It was acquired by Fritz Vogel, an industrialist of Chemnitz. By the end of world war II, the castle served as a shelter for refugee families from the formerly German territories east of the rivers Oder and Neiße. In 1946, family Vogel was expropriated and the estate was distributed among 29 peasants who used to work for the former owners. Subsequently, the buildings became the operative center of an agricultural production cooperative (LPG), smiliar to a Soviet kolkhos.
After the German reunion, the LPG became inoperative. After years of vacancy, the estate is slowly being revitalized by efforts of the municipality of Frohburg. Meanwhile, the location is known for its annual christmas market at the beginning of december.
