Farming trip
Last week the other intern and me went on a trip to see Aarstidernes farm in Jutland, where the company started back in the days. This made it possible for me to fulfil my following learning objective:
Gain experience in the structure of the company
- by observeing co-workers
- Participate in workshops, meeting and relevant activities
- Ask questions about how things are done
On the farm we saw how all the meal boxes are getting assembled and met employees who could tell us about the quality of the fruits and vegetables and what is happening if the quality not is good enough. I was impressed to see the honesty about the product, meaning that Aastiderne is in close contact with all their farmers, and has a high quality control of the product. The company cares about if everything is as it should, and as a minimum the fruits, vegetables and meat are organic but sometimes also biodynamic. Its Inspiring to meet people where you can feel how passionate they are about their job. It really made me think, that if you truly believe in something you are willing to give all that it takes to make it happen and deal with obstacles that might be come.
Another activity I got the possibility to be a part of, was to experience the creation of recipes for a cookbook for kids. Every 6 graders in the danish primary schools get the cookbook 'Mit Kokkeri' with a lot of recipes that are suitable for kids to make, and where they can find inspiration and learn skills in a kitchen. Since a some of the recipes needed to be revised and new ones to be added, we had to try out making 20 recipes, to see if the they worked as they were supposed to and whether it tasted as it should. Therefore, we used one day to prepare all the recipes and cook all of them the day after. It was quite a long day, and also a bit stressful since we had to be ready with three hot dishes at the same time. But it was a good experience to see all the processes a new cookbook has to go through before the recipes can be printed. The upcoming week we will cook all the recipes once again to get pretty pictures of all the dishes.
