today is 21 years since Merlinka, one of the first completely out in the open trans woman in Yugoslavia, was murdered in Belgrade. the two men accused of killing her were never charged due to the supposed lack of evidence and a monument dedicated to her last year was quickly vandalized after it's reveal. she was an icon of 90s pop media and starred in three movies: Beograde, dobro jutro, Lijepe žene prolaze kroz grad and Marble ass. she also wrote an autobiography Terezin sin shortly before her untimely death at 44 years of age

#i am keeping it as trans woman for now as those who do write about her use almost exclusively she/her pronouns and the use of male pronouns #for her is dubious as there are some articles who claim she used he/him as well for herself but those articles also deadname her and call #her a man while also calling her transgender or simply “the tranvestite” without any additional gender signifiers which if you live here you #know it's just the polite way transphobes here discredit transpeople's identity #i have not read her autobiography so i could be wrong but i'll leave it like this for now #mostly because the autobiography is dedicated to the woman in herself so. yeah #ura.txt
