what are kit's thoughts on her trio ? what are her favorite things to do with s & r ? does she prefer to do activities as a trio or as a pair with one or the other ?

i think one of the most important things to know about kit and her trio is that she loves ruthie and stirling EQUALLY. it may not seem like it at times, given that her and stirling’s friendship had a very rough start ( which is kit’s fault ) and she’s more openly critical of him than she is of ruthie. however, neither of these things have much to do with how she feels about them. ruthie and stirling are her best friends —– i’d go as far as saying they’re her soulmates. she needs them ( and they need her ).

as for her favorite things to do with them, working on her “ newspapers ” is definitely one of them. kit writes, ruthie comes up with story ideas, stirling draws, and they talk things out as a group. it’s a prime example of how well they work together. exploring is another; i imagine these three are Those Kids™ who spend hours wandering around the city or woods for no better reason than because they can. in addition, kit gets a lot of joy out of simply being in their presence.

and now, this largely depends on what period of time we’re talking about. during the beginning of their friendship, when kit and stirling were still on shaky ground and she wasn’t quite sure how he and ruthie would play off each other, she very much preferred doing activities in pairs with one or the other. but as time went on, ruthie and stirling got to know each other better and the three began to spend more time together as a trio. eventually, it gets to a point where it feels almost wrong to do something without both ruthie and stirling.
