okay what rules do you think kira would make up about day to day life? like minor everyday stuff.
(im sorry. i just saw a drawing of light saying 'misa premarital doing the do is a sin in kira's eyes' and im REELING)
ok so honestly i don't think that's a bad interpretation and there is in fact canonical backing for it. i haven't seen that drawing but in principle i don't disagree with it. because you are asking me specifically, though -- i am personally of the opinion that light doesn't have an issue with premarital sex because he is obsessed with convincing people he's having it. like literally any other explanation could have worked here:
my personal feeling is light is more concerned with preventing things that involve people with power abusing their station -- like bullying, for example, or people like demegawa who turn their platform into something grotesque and self-serving. he's a very pragmatic person and i don't think he cares about enforcing arbitrary rules. imo he's kind of going based off vibes rather than actually creating specific laws. sorry i realize this is probably meant to a jokey ask fgjlfghjl but this is something i think about constantly. here's a quote from the (excellent) paper 'the world is rotten': execution and power in death note and the japanese capital punishment system by ashley pearson:
Light never claims to be law, and his claims to being justice hint at an insideous division between the two terms, 'suggesting that justice might be something quite apart from law, something that exists outside the legal system.'
i think this is true, and it is also the reason he's not trying to replace the legal system with a brand-new set of laws; he's trying to get rid of it altogether.
#sorry im kind of humourless about light fgjkgfhjgfh#i hope this was interesting#you should also send this to someone who is capable of jokes though ghjkfghjl there are so many funny people in this fandom#who'll have more humerous answers to this question#the paper is from law and justice in japanese popular culture & everyone should read it#you can find it wherever you find textbooks or like make a request to your library#if they're anywhere in NA they should be able to get it for you

can you do a longlist of the books about strong girl protags and female friendships, etc. that were really impactful/your favorites so i know what to gift/rec any young girls in my life?
aww!! i would literally love nothing more than to compile such a list ty anon. i tried to put them in an order vaguely representative of youngest audiences to older...i'm not sure how well some of these would hold up in 2023 but they're all ones i remember enjoying and having an impact on me somehow...
not one damsel in distress by jane yolen
the daring book for girls by andrea j. buchanan & miriam peskowitz
the whole dear america series!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the ordinary princess by m. m. kaye
the caddie woodlawn series by carol ryrie brink
walk two moons by sharon creech (i used to have whole passages of this book memorized because i read it so often...potentially the most formative one on this list)
because of winn-dixie by kate dicamillo
the scholastic encyclopedia of U.S. women by sheila keenan (my elementary school art teacher had this book in her classroom library and i remember flipping through it when i was hanging around after school while my mom was doing PTA stuff...it was the first time i'd heard of so many of those women and further stoked my interest in history. i remember being so disturbed [and also intrigued] by the entry about ethel rosenberg specifically. i'm sure there are more updated versions of the book but this is the particular edition i remember reading.)
the penderwick sisters series by jeanne birdsall
bloomability by sharon creech
everything on a waffle by polly horvath
the tracy beaker series by jacqueline wilson
the outcasts of 19 schuyler place by e. l. konigsburg (also extremely formative)
saffy's angel / the whole casson family series by hilary mckay (i used to carry these books around with me as if they were security blankets)
p.s. longer letter later and snail mail no more by paula danziger & ann m. martin
the secret language of girls by frances o'roarke dowell
the tail of emily windsnap by liz kessler
savvy by ingrid law
love, stargirl by jerry spinelli (idk if any book had more of an impact on me as a child tbh like this rocked my world so completely i still think about it/quote it all the time. i know a lot of people read stargirl in school and honestly i don't think it's that good but the sequel is so underrated. so read it.)
a perfect gentle knight by kit pearson
feathers by jacqueline woodson
habibi by naomi shihab nye
the anastasia krupnik series by lois lowry
criss cross by lynne rae perkins
ella enchanted by gail carson levine........OBVIOUSLY
esperanza rising by pam muñoz ryan
kira-kira by cynthia kadohata
the city of ember by jeanne duprau
bad girls by cynthia voigt (tbh i REALLY don't know how this one holds up but i remember thinking it was pretty edgy as a kid)
little women by louisa may alcott
hurt go happy by ginny rorby
persepolis by marjane satrapi (obviously for slightly older readers)
the aforementioned rookie yearbook, natch. (also older)

Clemens Point
Ruby x Charles, Death Squad and VDL.
Warnings: the F word, injury.
Thanks once again to the writing queen @verai-marcel and the photoshop queen @theunholyoutlaw for the Ruby & Charles pic ❤❤
“Mr Smith, the stew is ready if you’d like to grab a bowl.”
“Thank you, Ms Grimshaw.”
“Anything new?”
“No, she hasn’t woken yet. I’ll find you when she does.”
Ruby stirs at the voices close by. She opens her eyes to blinding light and looks around, realising she’s laying in a cot inside a covered tent. More voices can be heard outside, and somewhere nearby a dog barks as a child laughs.
Ruby looks around and sees Charles Smith sitting in a chair by the entrance to the tent. He’s facing away from her, watching the back of an old woman walk away. Ruby tries to sit up, and immediately regrets it; the pain coming from her left ribcage is unbearable and she groans in agony, flopping back down on the bed. Gasping, she rips the covers from her to look down at her side. The left side of her abdomen is covered with bandages. She’s about to rip the bandage off when two big strong hands grab her wrists and pin them down to her sides.
“You… probably don’t wanna do that.” Ruby looks up into a pair of warm brown eyes. Charles is still holding her wrists down, but loosens his grip when she stops struggling. “Glad to see you’re awake and lively, though.” He chuckles at her frustration.
“Where am I and how did I get here?” Ruby looks around once more. She can smell water nearby, but it doesn’t smell like the river or the swamps.
“Clemens Point, just west of Rhodes.” Charles answers simply. “Arthur and I brought you back here after one of those men shot you,” he says, nodding at her bandaged ribcage. “The bullet went straight through, luckily.”
“Why’d you have to get involved?” Ruby demands. “I had it covered! I could’ve handled it myself… without getting injured.”
“Oh, I don’t doubt that. But you definitely would’ve caused some damage, and I think you’d rather not set your business on fire along with half the town.” Charles frowns. “You thirsty?” He asks suddenly.
Ruby realises her throat feels dryer than New Austin, and nods. Charles immediately gets up and heads out of the tent. Ruby watches him leave, frowning at his back. “She’s awake.” She hears him tell someone out of view.
Footsteps approach hurriedly, and Stevie and Kira come into view. Ruby gasps.
“Stevie? Kira? What are you two doing here?”
“I was on guard duty when Arthur and Charles brought you in,” Kira answers. “This is the Van Der Linde Gang.”
It’s as if a light flicks on in Ruby’s brain. “Oh! Of course! Javier and John were in the saloon the day the Lemoyne Raiders shot the place up trying to get to me. I didn’t realise it was them, though. I only heard him,” she nods in Charles’ direction, “shouting their names. Which also makes sense as to why you’re here.” She smirks at Stevie.
Stevie smiles slyly. “Yes, I was here for John, obviously. Kira came and got me as soon as you arrived here yesterday. But speaking of him-” She also nods her head towards the tent flaps. “He hasn’t left-”
“Wait-” Ruby cuts her off. “Did you say I arrived here yesterday?! I’ve been out of it for a whole day?!”
“Well…” Kira pulls out her gold pocket watch. “A day and a half, actually. You were bleeding pretty badly when they brought you back. Some of the gang members fixed you up, and you’d do well to leave that bandage on.” She adds, watching Ruby’s hand subconsciously move to her bandaged ribcage.
“Hey,” Stevie asks suddenly. “You thirsty?”
Ruby frowns. “Why do people keep asking me that? And yes I am, but Mr Smith went to get me something, I think..” She trails off, looking out the tent past Stevie and Kira.
The two women by the bed exchange a look that doesn’t go unnoticed by Ruby.
“What is it?” She demands.
“I’m surprised he left you,” Stevie smirks. “This is the longest he’s been away from your side since you arrived.”
Ruby narrows her eyes. “You make that sound like a good thing.”
“Actually, Ruby,” Kira quips. “It ain’t a bad thing.” She looks at Ruby warmly. “I haven’t spent much time around him, but Charles seems like a pretty decent guy. He pulls more than his fair share around camp, and Arthur seems to trust him, so I do too. Sometimes I trust Arthur’s judgement more than Javier’s.” She rolls her eyes.
“Yes,” adds Stevie. “I’ve only ever heard good things from John about him, and John don’t like just anybody.”
Ruby sighs. The movement of her ribcage expanding sends shooting pains across her whole abdomen and her face contorts in a pained grimace. Kira and Stevie immediately move over her, Stevie pinning Ruby’s arms back as her hands make their way to her wound once more.
“Fucking Lemoyne Raiders,” Ruby gasps, attempting to get up. “I’m going to fucking.. kill.. every last one of them.”
“Not in this state, you’re not,” says Kira firmly, pushing Ruby back down onto the bed. Even in her weak state, Ruby is unsurprised at Kira’s strength; as petite as she was, Ruby had seen Kira throw grown men to the ground before.
Ruby groans defeatedly. “Wait ‘til I find those bastards’ location,” she growls. “There’ll be no such thing as the Lemoyne Raiders once I’m finished with them.”
“And we’ll be right there with you,” says Stevie. “But for now, you need to get your strength back.”
Ruby looks up at her two friends, trying to find the words to thank them, but at that moment Charles re-enters the tent holding a bowl of stew and a bottle of beer.
“So, all I could find was beer, but I did bring you some stew. The camp cook, Pearson, ain’t the best cook, but it’s… edible.” Charles shrugs.
Ruby thanks Charles, attempting to sit up but struggling. Kira and Stevie scoot back and share a knowing look as Charles hurriedly sets the bottle and bowl next to the bed before placing a hand under her back.
“Need a hand?” he asks.
“Sure, thanks,” says Ruby grudgingly, annoyed at having to accept the help. She carefully wraps her arm around his shoulders as he places his other hand under her knees, gingerly shifting her so she is sitting up in bed. As he hands her the bowl of stew, Kira stands up.
“Well, I’ve gotta get back to guard duty. Stevie, you should find Roxy and let her know Ruby’s fine.” She looks at Stevie pointedly, and nods towards Ruby and Charles, raising her eyebrows before exiting. Stevie stands immediately, taking the hint.
“I’ll see what I can find out about the Raiders. I know Roxy had some trouble with them a while back.. I’m sure she’ll be eager to help. We’ll come check on you tomorrow.” She glances at Charles one last time as she leaves.
Ruby chuckles to herself at her friends’ subtleness, ignoring the pain in her side. Charles doesn’t seem to pick up on the exchange and sits down in the chair facing the bed.
“So what do you think?” Charles asks, nodding at the bowl of stew in Ruby’s hand.
“Did he.. empty a whole sack of salt into this?” She looks at the stew sceptically.
Charles chuckles. “Oh - ” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a strip of green. “Add some oregano, it’ll help with the flavour, at least.”
Ruby takes the herb gratefully. “Thank you,” she says, mixing it into her stew and spooning it into her mouth. The oregano made the stew almost nice.
Charles watches her eat with a curious expression.
“What, never seen a girl eat before?” Ruby asks irritably.
“What happened there?” He uses his own hand to gesture towards his eye, indicating Ruby’s scar that ran straight down her left eyebrow and over her cheek. Ruby places the bowl down on the bed and ducks her head so it was out of his view, something she had come to subconsciously do after all the years of shame from it.
“Don’t look at it,” she mumbles. “Please,” she adds, her eyes lifting to meet his. Charles’ hand gently lifts her chin so her gaze is level with his.
“You still look beautiful,” he says quietly, his eyes boring into hers.
Ruby scoffs.
“A beautiful badass?” he amends, giving her a sheepish smile. .
“Much better,” Ruby says indignantly, returning to her stew. “I’ll tell you about mine if you tell me about yours.” She nods, using her eyebrows to indicate towards the slash running across his right cheek and ending at the corner of his mouth.
Charles chuckles darkly, a sound that seems to come from deep within his chest. “I don’t want to send you running for the mountains. Maybe one day,” he says, standing up. “But for now, you need to heal. Unfortunately, you are going to have another scar under those bandages, but it just makes you even scarier.” He smiles as he heads out of the tent.
Ruby hears the question under it all: maybe one day… did that mean he intended to stay around? Suddenly, she remembers something.
“Hey – Charles! Bones?”
“What?” He turns, a puzzled look on his face.
“My horse.”
“Oh, right. He’s fine – he’s out with the other horses, being taken care of. Funny, actually. We didn’t even have to lead him back with us, he just followed along behind us the whole way here.”
The sun is beginning to set over the campsite, reflecting a bright yellow glow from the water over the camp as Charles walks away towards the water. Ruby watches him, wondering who this handsome stranger was and why he was being so kind to her.
Ruby remains in Clemens Point for a few more days until she is strong enough to leave. The morning after, she woke to the smell of coffee and looked around to find a cup beside her bed along with a fresh set of clothes. Stevie came back daily to check on her (although Ruby suspected she also had ulterior motives for coming to camp), and she and Kira helped her change her clothes and bandage. Her wound from the gunshot had healed nicely in just under two days and by the end of the third, Ruby was able to sit up without the assistance of Charles, who had brought her stew every afternoon and even helped her hobble out to sit around the campfire on her third night.
The sun is setting once more on Ruby’s fourth day in Clemens Point. Just as Kira and Stevie are finishing up, Arthur Morgan comes into the tent, calling out loudly to make sure Ruby was decent.
“Mr Morgan,” smiles Ruby politely. “I never got a chance to thank you for helping me out the other day. I would say if it weren’t for you and Mr Smith, I wouldn’t have made it out of there alive, but…” she trails off, her lips pulled back in a taut smile and her eyes hard.
“I know, I know. You had it covered. Charles already told me about how you think you were gonna escape from four on one” Arthur waves her off. “Actually, I’ve got some news and I’m sure you wanna hear it. It’s about them Lemoyne Raiders.”
Arthur tells Ruby, Stevie and Kira about how he and Lenny found where the Lemoyne Raiders were camped out in an old estate house outside Saint Denis.
“Shady Belle? I know the place,” Ruby says. “Wasn’t aware it had any inhabitants.” She looks at the other two young women expectantly, leaning forward.
“We’ll scope it out,” says Kira. “Stevie and I will collect Roxy tonight and report back.”
“Okay, but-”
“We won’t hit it without you, Ruby. This is your payback,” says Stevie. “If you’re ready, we’ll do it tomorrow night.”
Ruby sighs and leans back against the wall of the tent. “I appreciate that. Thank you.” She looks at Arthur. “Looks as though my stay is almost up.” Ruby stretches her arms, showing how much her injury is allowing her to move.
Arthur chuckles. “Well, I know of at least one person who won’t be thrilled about that news.”
Ruby rolls her eyes, but they land on Charles, who’s sitting at a table across camp sharpening some arrowheads. As if she called his name, Charles looks up and meets Ruby’s gaze. His lips pull up into a small smile and he stands up and makes his way over to the small gathering in the tent.
“Well, Hosea mentioned something about wanting to find some ancient Braithwaite gold, so I’m gonna try ‘n’ find a lead on that,” says Arthur. “Take care, Miss Cortez.” He nods at Stevie and Kira and claps a hand on Charles’ shoulder on his way out.
“Yes, Javier said he wanted to try out a new fishing spot that’s great for fishing at dusk, so I best go get ready. See you tomorrow, Stevie,” Kira says as she follows Arthur.
“Alright, well. I guess that’s my cue to leave too. I’ll be back to collect you tomorrow, Rubes.” With a final glance back at Ruby and Charles, Stevie leaves.
“Hey,” Ruby smiles up at Charles.
“You wanna join me for a drink by the fire?” Charles asks.
“Sure,” she says, getting up. Charles moves forwards to help her stand up, but Ruby holds her hands out to stop him. Charles gives a wry chuckle at her stubbornness but stands back. Ruby grits her teeth but manages to stand up surprisingly quicker than she had been able to earlier that day.
“You know, it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help,” Charles says, offering his arm for stability as they exit the tent.
“It is, and I don’t need help anyway,” says Ruby, swatting his arm away and hobbling towards the campfire.
Charles grabs two bottles of beer from a crate on a nearby table and the two of them find a seat on a log by the fire. An older man who had introduced himself on Ruby’s second day in camp as Hosea was telling a story to a few other members of camp. Ruby and Charles both sat and listened, drinking as the night grew heavier and cooler air began to set in.
At some point in the night, during her fourth bottle of beer, Ruby realised her head was spinning and her eyes began to droop. Charles had ducked off for a bathroom break and to grab more beer, leaving Ruby sitting by the fire by herself, listening to an old man everyone referred to as “Uncle” playing a harmonica.
“Heeeey pretty lady.” A young woman with short blonde curly hair and freckles splattered across her nose sways up to her and plonks herself down on the log next to Ruby. “You’re the moonshiner Charles keeps going on about, right?” She looks at Ruby through half shut eyes and smiles. “I’m Karen,” She holds out her hand.
“Hi, Karen, I’m Ruby,” Ruby says, shaking her hand. “I’ve seen you around camp while I was stuck in bed.” Ruby giggles drunkenly. “Wait – what do you mean ‘going on about me’? I’ve only met the man once before,” she says, bewildered.
“Exactly!” Karen laughs. “For a man of few words, let me tell you, I’ve heard a few times now about how you shot up the Rhodes saloon, killed a bunch of these ‘Lemoyne Raiders’, then jumped off a balcony onto your horse!”
“When you put it like that, it makes it sound so much more badass. But really, it was nothing,” laughs Ruby, waving her off.
Karen sighs. “I’ve seen the way he looks at you, Ruby. And believe me when I say that at some point, us girls here have wished he would look at us that way.”
Ruby tries to think of something to say, but the alcohol clouds her brain and her mouth feels dry. As if on cue, a gangly red-headed man with missing teeth swaggers by, telling her he found something “really interesting behind a tree just outside of camp if she wanted to check it out”, adding a wink. Karen giggles and follows him, wishing Ruby good night as she leaves.
Ruby watches the pair leave, and spots Charles heading back to the fire with two more bottles of beer. He sits down in the seat Karen had occupied a moment before, handing Ruby a bottle.
“So,” says Charles. “You’re leaving tomorrow. Are you sure you’re healed enough?”
“Of course I am,” says Ruby, jumping up from the log and doing a small jog on the spot. “If I weren’t healed could I do this?” She lifts her arms above her head and turns in a small pirouette, but her stitches pull slightly and she collapses back on the log, laughing.
“Okay, okay, I get it,” Charles laughs as he catches her, but his expression turns sombre.
“What is it?” Ruby asks
Charles sighs. “I just.. I guess I’m worried I won’t see you again,” he says quietly, looking down.
Ruby looks at him thoughtfully. A combination of alcohol, tiredness and humidity are turning her brain fuzzy, and her hand finds its way under Charles’ chin, tilting it up so his eyes meet her own.
“I know where to find you,” she murmurs, leaning forward. “You’ll see me again.”
Charles closes the distance between them, his lips meeting hers as his hand cups her cheek gently. Ruby leans closer towards him and Charles’ other hand finds her waist when a hooting laugh carries across the fire. Ruby pulls away and looks over to see Uncle watching them joyfully.
“Yes! I knew you’d do it Charles, I told John you’d do it! He doubted you’d make a move but I had faith in ya! Where is that greasy bastard, I gotta go get my money..” The old man gets up and hobbles away, muttering about ‘bets’ and ‘making moves’.
“Did they.. did they bet money on us?” Ruby asks incredulously.
“I think so?” Charles laughs.
“Well, on that note, I think I’m going to bed. I don’t think it would have been much longer ‘til you had to carry me there anyway.” She stands up.
“It wouldn’t be the first time I carried you to bed,” Charles chuckles. He stoops down and sweeps Ruby up into his arms. “And hopefully it won’t be the last.”
Ruby wraps an arm around his shoulders as he carries her back to the tent. Charles lays her down gently on the cot before leaning in to kiss her lips again, deeper this time, before pulling away.
“Good night, Ruby,” he murmurs, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
“Good night, Charles,” Ruby smiles, sleep already taking her over.

Psychological Archetypes: Vylette Elakha
*This one is great! A quick quiz for archetypes and the ones I have seen so far are dead on!*
The Caregiver
One very essential part of our journeys of self-exploration is to understand the underlying motivations that drive a lot of our behavior.
We have the freedom to pursue whatever we desire, but we don't have the freedom to choose that which we desire. Have you ever wondered why you want, feel, think and behave the way you do? By analyzing your unconscious mind, you can dig to the very roots of why you are the way you are.
Psychologist Carl Jung developed a human psyche theory of "archetypes" (from the Greek words archein, which means "original" and typos, which means "pattern, model or type"), and it was in this theory that he developed the notion that our minds used "universal images" that lead to distinct psychological behaviors. These behaviors were individually acquired but also inherited from the "collective unconscious" (e.g. past life experiences).
Jung proposed that apart from the Universal Self, Shadow, Anima, Animus and Persona archetypes, there were 12 other commonly found ones. Recently, scholar Dr. Carol S. Pearson and psychologist Dr. Hugh Marr developed a system of self-inquiry based on these universal Archetypes in order to help us find ourselves and transform our paths. Pearson and Marr named their method the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator® (PMAI).
When we begin to work with archetypes, we can access the meaning we associate with them fairly simply as these archetypes can be found in most Mythology and fantasy stories. Understanding these archetypal inner guides helps us to:
Prepare for our journey of self-discovery by learning how to understand ourselves and our needs.
Embark upon our quest by becoming initiated into the mysteries of the human psyche.
Return to transform our lives as a result of claiming our uniqueness and personal power.
We all possess most of these archetypes, but some of them are more predominant within us than others. Below is a short outline of the Archetype that you tested for. Each archetype reveals its own values, traits and meanings, as well as the lesson that each guide is trying to teach you about yourself.
The Caregiver
The Caregiver is an altruist, moved by compassion, generosity and selflessness to help others. Although prone to martyrdom and enabling behaviors, the inner Caregiver helps us raise our children, aid those in need, and build structures to sustain life and health. Caregivers first seek to help others, which they do with compassion and generosity. A risk the Caregiver takes in their pursuit to help others is their tendency to harm themselves. They dislike selfishness, especially in themselves, and fear what it might make them do.
Shadow Side: The martyr. This will manifest itself in your desire to control others by making them feel guilty, e.g. “Look at all I sacrificed for you!” The martyr evidences itself in all manipulative or devouring behaviors, in which you use care-taking to control or smother others. It is also found in co-dependence; a compulsive need to take care of, or rescue others.
Life Goal: Help others through sacrifice Fear: Selfishness, ingratitude Response to Problem: Take care of those it harms Life Task: Give without maiming self or others Personal Gifts: Compassion, generosity, nurturing, community Personal Pitfalls: Martyrdom, enabling others, co-dependence, guilt-tripping

It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus - Isaac Lahey
Summary: You get tired of Isaac constantly making witch puns about you but there’s a reason behind all his jokes
Isaac Lahey x Reader
Word Count: 2,122
Author’s Note: This one is borderline a Halloween imagine. It mentions Halloween movies and I only thought about it because of Halloween, so I’m counting it.
Spooky Masterlist
Masterlist
This time of the year was a dread sometimes. October. Halloween. There was always one person who knew your secret that liked to make witch puns. You could take a joke. You could laugh along, but sometimes it got old real quick. You were a witch. And no, not like the wicked witch of the west. More like Charmed. You’d even take Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Except for the flying on a broomstick thing... okay well maybe a few of your ancestors did that along time ago, but not anymore.
Even though you had your own coven, you did consider yourself apart of the McCall pack. You would think that with the pack consisting of such a diverse group of supernatural creatures, everyone would be a little more tolerant of the supernatural jokes. Stiles made one once every now and then, and usually they were pretty funny. And there were a few share of dog jokes. Being tied to a leash. Having flees. Isaac was usually the butt of those jokes, but that was because Stiles didn’t personally care for the brunette boy. Isaac was normally pretty quick to say something right back to Stiles. He also made a few witch jokes to you, too. You didn’t brush of the jokes with Isaac like you did with Stiles though.
The reason you probably took more offense to what Isaac said to you was because you had a crush on him. It felt like he only saw you as the witch of the group. Lydia Martin’s best friend and nothing more. So you didn’t laugh at the resting witch face jokes, or the ones about being on a witch hunt when they couldn’t find you at school.
It was only the middle of October and Isaac was already getting on your nerves. Just the other day, you, Kira, Scott, and Isaac were in the library working on your English papers.
“Does accommodate have one m or two,” Kira asked sitting across the table from you..
“Don’t ask me, I suck at spelling,” you said looking up at the kitsune.
“I thought witches were supposed to be good at spells,” Isaac said a smirk on his face.
“Ha. Ha. Very funny,” you said in a monotone voice. “Did you come up with that one yourself?”
“Right off the top of my head,” Isaac said.
“Well, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. This one’s learned to make a joke.”
The smirk on Isaac’s face fell a little and you went back to working on your paper, not giving him anymore attention.
“He probably does it because he likes you,” Lydia said casually while she observed her freshly done nails. School was over for the day, and Lydia was waiting for you to get your things so the two of you could go home. You were still annoyed by Isaac’s little joke, so you had to tell your best friend.
You huffed then replied, “Yeah, right.”
“No, think about it. Remember in the first grade when Johnathan Meyers used to always play with Rachel Pearson until the other boys made fun of him for having a crush. Then he started picking on her even though we all knew he wanted to keep playing with her.”
“You’re saying Isaac’s being a first grader and picking on me when he really likes me? There’s no way that’s possible.” You grabbed your last book, shoving it into your backpack, then began walking to Lydia’s car.
“It’s completely possible, Y/N.”
“Is this some sort of banshee prediction? Because I could have sworn you predicted death, not love lives.”
“No, it’s a I-have-an-IQ-higher-than-anyone-at-this-school thing,” Lydia said smiling.
You smiled at your friend. “You got me there, Lydia.”
A few days later, it was pack night and everyone was over Scott’s house. Since Halloween was next week, everyone decided to watch Halloween movies.
“Let’s watch Return of the Jedi,” Stiles shouted next to Lydia on the love seat.
“Since when is Star Wars a Halloween movie,” you asked placing a bowl of popcorn on the coffee table before taking your seat on the other couch.
“It’s not. I think it should be in the running because it’s one of the greatest movies of all time.”
“We’re not watching Star Wars, Stiles,” Lydia said making a disappointed look appear on his face.
“What about Nightmare on Elm Street,” Scott suggested.
“Don’t we get enough psycho killers in our lives without having to watch them on TV,” you asked. Everyone nodded and mumbled agreeing with you. “How about a lighter Halloween movie? Like The Corpse Bride?”
“Oh! What about The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Kira asked excitedly.
“Isn’t that more of a Christmas movie,” Stiles asked.
“It’s both,” Malia said munching on one of the Pillsbury Halloween cookies with a ghost on it.
“Maybe we should watch Hocus Pocus,” Isaac suggested out of no where. He had been quiet all night, so you felt like he was up to something.
“Why Isaac,” you asked crossing your legs as you leaned back into the couch. “So you can ask me where my broom is or if I know the Sanderson sisters personally?”
“I wouldn’t do that, Y/N,” Isaac said popping a piece of popcorn into his mouth as he sat on the edge of the love seat near Stiles. “We all know you related more to the evil Queen from Snow White. You could turn into that old hag she turns into any minute.”
“You know what,” you said standing up, “I’ve had it up to here with you, Isaac.” When you said “here,” you used your magic and lifted Isaac into the air. Both Scott and Lydia yelled your name. Scott stood in front of you trying to get you to look at him, but your eyes were glued to Isaac as you concentrated on your magic.
“Put him down, Y/N,” Scott said in his firm alpha voice.
You slowly began to let him down, but just before his feet touched the ground, you dropped him and he fell on his butt.
“I need to get some air,” you said angrily then went out the back door.
After the door shut, Isaac was still on the floor with his bruised ego. Scott stretched his hand out to help the beta up and Isaac accepted.
“Should someone go check on her,” Stiles asked. He wasn’t Isaac’s biggest fan, so he didn’t mind the stunt you pulled, but he wanted to make sure you were okay.
“I know Y/N,” Lydia said sitting back down on the couch like nothing happened. “She just needs a few minutes to herself to cool off.”
Everyone listened to Lydia since she knew you best and went on with the movie night. Stiles pulled up The Addams Family on Netflix and everyone settled in to watch. Isaac waited a few minutes until everyone was engrossed in the movie then snuck out the back door to talk to you.
You heard the back door squeak open and you didn’t turn to face whoever it was.
“I’m not ready to talk yet, Lydia.” You pulled your arms across your chest tighter.
“It’s not Lydia,” Isaac said from behind you. Your shoulders tensed up. You weren’t expecting Isaac to be the one to check on you.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” You didn’t even flinch at Isaac’s words. He came closer and sat down next to you on the porch steps. “I’ll stop with all the witch jokes.”
You sighed before you spoke, “I’m sorry for levitating you.”
“It was kind of fun actually,” Isaac admitted and you finally looked at him. The porch light wasn’t too bright, but you could make out all the features of his face and a few curls in his hair. Why did he have to be so cute?
When you didn’t say anything, Isaac felt like he needed to keep apologizing. “I don’t mean to make you mad. I just never know what to say to you. Then I see Stiles joking with you, and I thought that could work for me to.”
“You did all that just to talk to me,” you asked looking at him a little confused.
“Well, yeah,” Isaac said shrugging.
Cocking your head to the side you said, “You could have just spoke to me. Just start a conversation.”
“I couldn’t just start talking to you,” Isaac said fidgeting with his fingers.
“Well you’re doing it now,” you said with a small smile on your face.
Isaac chuckled rubbing the back of his head with his hand. “I guess I am.”
“And why was it so hard to talk to me. I’m not a werewolf... I don’t bite,” you said then giggled at your joke.
“I get flustered around you. It’s like I can’t speak to you like a normal person.”
“Neither of us are normal people, Isaac.”
“Yeah, but you’re this badass, powerful, smart, incredibly cute witch, and I’m just some orphaned beta who can hardly keep his grades up.”
“Isaac, you are so much more than an orphaned beta,” you said placing your hand on his knee to comfort him. “Wait, did you just say I was cute,” you asked smiling now realizing what he said about you.
“Um, I... I mean- yeah,” Isaac said nervously.
“That’s why you couldn’t talk to me,” you said more to yourself than to Isaac. “You like me, don’t you?”
Isaac’s head was looking down and he tried to avert your gaze. You moved your hand that was on his knee and turned his head to face you.
“I do.”
You closed your eyes shaking your head. A combination of a sigh and a giggle left your lips. “Lydia is never going to let me live this down.”
“Live what down,” Isaac asked watching you.
You opened your eyes and met his gaze. “That she was right about you liking me. This whole time I thought you didn’t. You picked on me the same way you do Stiles.”
“Stiles made witch jokes, too,” Isaac pointed out.
“Yeah, but his didn’t get to me like yours did. I cared more when it came from you.”
“Why?”
“Because I like you, too, idiot,” you confessed grinning.
“Wait,” Isaac said blinking a few times. “You like me,” he asked pointing at you then himself.
“Yes!”
“And this isn’t some mean joke to get back at me for all the witch jokes?”
“No,” you laughed.
“Are you sure? Because you were pretty mad earlier. I mean you did have me floating in the air for making a Snow White reference.”
“If I didn’t like you back, would I do this,” you asked before you grabbed his face and kissed him. For a brief second, Isaac was stiff as a board. After he realized you were actually kissing him, he began to kiss you back. When you pulled back, your hands stayed on his face.
Isaac licked his lips then spoke, “No, I don’t think someone that didn’t like me back would do that.” You smiled at the dazed look on his face. “You mind if we try that again,” Isaac asked. You pulled him back into you and his hands automatically fell onto your hips. You always imagined what it would be like to kiss Isaac. How it would feel to have your hands run through his hair. Where he would place his hands on your body. If his lips were soft or not.
Suddenly you heard a loud thud. The both of you turned your head to the back screen door to see Stiles with his mouth agape. “Everything is fine you guys,” Stiles yelled turning around. “They’re just making out.”
You groaned knowing as soon as you walked back into the living room, everyone was going to pester the two of you about what just happened.
“We don’t have to go back in there if you don’t want to,” Isaac said.
“I don’t want too,” you replied shaking your head.
“You could always put a mute spell on Stiles so we don’t have to hear his voice again,” Isaac suggested even though he knew you wouldn’t do it.
“How about I put a mute spell on you,” you said giggling as you placed your hand over his mouth.
Isaac grabbed your hand, removing it from his mouth.“You don’t have to do use magic to do that,” he said in a low voice, his eyes flickering from your eyes to your lips.
“You’re so lame,” you said, but you moved in closer to him. Isaac met you half way. His lips connecting with yours in a sweet kiss. If kissing him was the only way to get him to shut up, you didn’t mind it one bit.

Ten favorite women from ten different fandoms.
I was tagged by @ussjellyfish
Rules: Write your ten favorite female characters from ten different fandoms and tag ten different people.
(Note: when I realized what this meme was asking for, my first reaction was to wonder if I even follow ten fandoms. After I thought about it, I realized that I may not be active in ten fandoms, but there are easily ten that I can claim to watch the TV show or movie, and enjoy seeing the content cross my dash. So, here goes with my ten fave ladies!)
1. Belle French, Once Upon a Time (Emilie de Ravin)
2. Hermione Granger, Harry Potter (Emma Watson)
3. Alex Danvers, Supergirl (Chyler Leigh)
4. Claire Fraser, Outlander (Caitriona Balfe)
5. Mercedes Jones, Glee (Amber Riley)
6. Kate Pearson, This is Us (Chrissy Metz/Hannah Zeile/Mackenzie Hancsicsak)
7. Kira Nerys, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Nana Visitor)
8. Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery (Sonequa Martin-Green)
9. Olivia Benson, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Mariska Hargitay)
10. Stef Foster & Lena Adams, The Fosters (Teri Polo & Sherri Saum)
(Cheated on that last one b/c I can’t choose just one of them; I love them both.)
Tagging ten people per the rules, but no pressure! @findingtallahassee, @bonnie-wee-swordsman, @jazzypizzaz, @brooke-to-broch, @rumple-belle, @madasateacup, @bookwormchocaholic, @moonlight91, @notthatbea, @slayediest, @justanotherwannabeclassic

Books I read in 2020 (so far)
I’m bored and restless I’m gonna post about the books I’ve read ok? ok. I italicized the books i really liked, if you’re curious
The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing by Mira Jacob - fiction. Follows an Indian-American family over the course of several years, including the events of a tragedy. I didn’t care for this one, I liked the concept behind it but I thought there was too much focus on the build-up to the “mystery” or main event, and not enough on the characters. It was well written and clearly thought out, but I felt it was kind of aimless. 3/5
The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs by Stephen Brusatte - non-fiction. Supposed to be about dinosaurs. Oh boy I didn’t enjoy this. The author somehow took a book about dinosaurs and wrote an autobiography. It also had very few pictures and he spends so much time describing the dinosaurs... just give me a picture, Stephen, I beg of you. It did have some cool information but not enough to carry it past 2 stars. 2/5
Starsight by Brandon Sanderson - YA sci-fi, sequel to Skyward, which follows people trapped on a planet where they are attacked constantly by aliens. I liked it better than the first one, but it still had flaws. The main character was isolated for most of the sequel and I live for character interactions and relationships. 4/5
Lovely War by Julie Berry - YA (didn’t know it was YA but in retrospect... it was YA) historical romance narrated by the gods of love and war. Takes place during WWI. It sounds weird, I know, but listen - it was amazing. The characters were well developed and it didn’t focus too much on the actual war. which was refreshing. 5/5
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman - contemporary. Follows the character Eleanor, who is convinced she’s fine when really she’s not. I found this one kind of boring, but I’m not a huge fan of contemporary... the side characters were great, but the main character... idk she was rude sometimes and it was supposed to come off as “quirky” or something? It rubbed me the wrong way. 3/5 because it wasn’t written badly
Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon - memoir. I don’t often read memoirs so I tried to broaden my horizons. I didn’t “enjoy” reading this book but I can’t exactly criticize someone’s life. It wasn’t what I was expecting, I thought it would be more informative than reflective. 3/5
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones - historical (?) fiction. Follows a couple after their short marriage gets torn apart when the husband is falsely accused and imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. I wasn’t the intended audience, but it was well written. I hated the characters and that’s always a bummer for me. Really hated the end, too, but no spoilers 2/5
Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle - thriller (?). Felt like Gone Girl but somehow worse? Follows a woman who is escaping her husband, and he’s determined to find her. I hated this one. The characters and plot were a mess. I barely remember it like a month later. Had racism and transphobia, I think intended to show how “bad” a character is but like... we see him beat the shit out of his wife, I think we get it. 1/5
A Wedding in December by Sarah Morgan - contemporary romance. Follows an (insufferable) family. Youngest daughter is getting married after a whirlwind romance, elder sister doesn’t believe in love, mom and dad are secretly separated. Oh boy another one I hated. The characters were flat and the plot (?????) didn’t exist. The sister (the one not getting married) was especially insufferable and her romance came out of nowhere. 1/5
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton - uuh post-apocalyptic? Comedy? I loved this one even though it also sounds really weird. You follow a domesticated crow and a dog during the events of a zombie apocalypse. The book was actually really funny and it made me cry and I loved it so much. People who gave it low ratings don’t know how to have fun 5/5
Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson - YA fantasy. Follows a princess who runs away on her wedding day. I thought I was done with liking any YA fantasy but I really liked this book!! I liked the premise of not knowing who the prince/assassin was, even though it was fairly simple to guess. I’m a sucker for fantasy and for anything character-driven though. 4/5
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee - historical fiction. Follows a family over generations born in Korea who emigrate to Japan. I really liked this book because it was well written and it made the history of the Korean-Japanese people of the time accessible. Unlike other literary or historical fiction, this one didn’t focus exclusively on suffering (although there is a lot of suffering). The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there are time skips where important character development and relationships occur and I like to read about it! 4/5
