Ian Kinsler, the Jewish former MLB All-Star and Team Israel manager, wore a Team Israel jersey while throwing out the first pitch of the playoff game between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. As both a player and a manager, Ian Kinsler has worn the jersey many times and in several different stadiums. But the choice to wear it at the game, along with a Texas Rangers hat — he played the first eight years of his 14-year MLB career with the Rangers — appeared to be a stand of solidarity with Israel as it deals with the fallout of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks. The clip of the first pitch was shared widely across social media, with fans and Team Israel players commending Kinsler for his show of support. “Ian Kinsler, in his own quiet way, has given the supporters of Israel a reason to feel very proud and have great respect,” Team Israel general manager Peter Kurz, who had recruited Kinsler to join the team, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency via text message.

Friday Kiss Tag
I was tagged by @oh-no-another-idea here, thank you so much! 💙
Rules: post a smooch from your writing for Friday. It can be as light as a peck or as intense as a makeout. It can be romantic or platonic or familial. As long as a smooch takes place it’s free reign!
The snippet below is from AASOAF 3, featuring my favorite on again off again couple, Fay and Wilkes.
She looked at me through hazy eyes, becoming, for those few moments, the woman I knew in my youth. The one whose skin had been shucked off by the violence of life and living. The one who pleaded to be loved through every gaze even though she spoke as if she were the rare sort whose purpose it was to be unloved. The one who crossed her very nature to welcome me into her arms…
“I want to dock at Kinsler’s Nest.” She whispered. “But I can’t do that if you’re not there and I’m not here…”
“Can you trust me?”
She took my hand in hers and raised it to her lips, brushing the back of it with her warm breath. My scales prickled. “No.”
“Then why?”
“Because…” She kissed my knuckles tenderly. “You’re the greatest weapon there is.”
“And what is that?” I asked softly as I raised her chin.
She closed the gap between us, eyes glittering with her signature avarice. “A shield. You're not made to hurt me. You try...but you can't... And nothing has changed. I still hate you. I still want you gone. So don't make this a reason...”
“Woman of mine, I don’t need a reason to be wanted by you…” I brushed my lips against hers gently.
She kissed me back. “Liar.”

I have feelings about several guys on the upcoming HOF ballot!!
Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltrán, Mark Buehrle, Carlos González, Curtis Granderson, Félix Hernández, Torii Hunter, Adam Jones, Andruw Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian McCann, Dustin Pedroia, Andy Pettitte, Hanley Ramirez, Manny Ramirez, Fernando Rodney, Alex Rodriguez, Francisco Rodríguez, Jimmy Rollins, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Troy Tulowitzki, Chase Utley, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner, David Wright, Ben Zobrist
Russell Martin, I mean obviously. 🍁
I don't know how many of yall are old enough to remember the excitement of getting Tulo. He ended up being injured a lot, but just getting him signaled we're serious about this. Kinda like the more recent big contracts for Ryu and Springer.
Mark Buehrle! Goodness, I loved watching Buehrle pitch. 💕
Not many guys from this era with absolutely no Jays connections that I have warm fuzzy feelings for, but Ichiro and Felix are two of them.
I am, however, vehemently opposed to several of the guys for the simple fact of them playing well on other AL East teams 😆
👋 Oh hey, hi Will Wagner's dad!

Pitchfork Day 2
ERIC EGGLESON
Saturday's weather looked like it might rain, but it stayed overcast for a bit, and then the sun came out Needless to say, it was typical Pitchfork weather-humid. As for the music, what seemed like countless DJs yesterday, today was filled with band after band on all three stages for the most part.
Chicago's Lifeguard kicked things off on the Green Stage (GS) in a great way as a tight-sounding, three piece combo that fluctuated between bass and guitar or two guitars with their drummer. Kai Slater, the main guitarist, was seated the entire set, but it didn't seem to limit his capabilities. The set ended with a wall of distortion that sent the (unfortunately) small crowd into a frenzy. (Kai was seen later at the Blue Stage and on crutches.)
Next up, L'Rain performed on the Red Stage (RS) with a complete jazz combo featuring keyboards, saxophone, drums, guitar, and backing vocals. It was a set filled with smooth sounds that offered another slice of musical style to Pitchfork fans.
Back to the GS, Kara Jackson continued the smooth vibe L'Rain started. Kara sang and played her acoustic guitar, along with her bassist, violinist, keyboardist/clarinet player, as well as, a backup singer. She opened with her beautiful rendition of Karen Dalton's "Right, Wrong or Ready" and then immediately went into her song "No Fun." Kara's a folky, jazzy, bluesy songwriter that brings another style to today's lineup.
The first band at the Blue Stage(BS) is Hotline TNT. Imagine if Swervedriver met The Replacements and you get a slight comparison. Will Anderson may write all the music, but his current out-of-control lead guitarist stole the show. Two guitars, one bass, and a drummer that pack a lot of punch in their songs. Lots of Who-like jumping and thrashing that really fired up the crowd. "I Thought You'd Change" was a crowd favorite.
Back to the RS, Pittsburgh's feeble little horse brought their sound to the big stage blasting indie rock with a full band. Singer and bass player, Lydia Slocum, along with guitarists Sebastian Kinsler and Ryan Walchonski , and drummer Jake Kelley did their best despite some technical issues with tracks.
At the BS, Water From Your Eyes was one band I was really looking forward to. Unfortunately, a coughing Rachel Brown confessed she wasn't her best, but that didn't stop her "from doing her job." Nate Amos and the rest of the band plugged through a rockin' set despite her announcement. "Barley" was a crowd favorite with its vocal counting, tapeloops, and post-punk blasts. "I'm being punished for sneaking into Pitchfork all three days 10 years ago." -Rachel
Back to the GS, Wednesday delivered an Alt-Country/American slice for the crowd. Karly Hartzman kicked up her vocals especially in the spine-shilling final number, "Bull Believer." Wednesday also includes Jake Lenderman (more often known as MJ, who I missed a few weeks ago) on guitar. Throw in a lap steel guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer, along with Karly shredding her guitar, and you've got a great live sound. The coolest transition of the day was from their own "Bath County"(referencing Drive-By Truckers) to a Drive-By Truckers song, "Women Without Whiskey."
Sweeping Promises at the BS, provided quirky indiepop. Guitarist, Caufield Schnug, gave it all he had with his intricate, B-52's-ish riffs. Not to take anything away from bassist Lira Mondal, she can really sing!
The GS, is getting crowded. Here's as close as I could get to Jessie Ware. She eventually jumped into the crowd for that intimate connection. Great sound, cool dancers, tight rhythm section, and she covered Cher's "Believe." What more could you ask for?
Back to the BS, Bratmobile's Allison Wolfe shared her roots of visiting Chicago before showing off her vocals and cheerleader movements. It was a fun set featuring Rose Melberg playing killer guitar! (They even played her Tiger Trap song, "Supreme Nothing"!) But it was the finale that stole the show. Covering The Runawyas' "Cherry Bomb" was the perfect ending complete with young girls (daughters?) singing the chorus.
I ended DAY 2, at the BS. Unwound delivered a post-hardcore set to compete with Carly Rae Jepsen on the RS. I was mesmerized by Jared Warren's intricate bass work! Solid sound coming from all four band members made this a great way to end my day.
DAY 3 tomorrow.

4/3/13: Late Runs Spur Rangers Sweep
Wednesday, April 3, 2013 Minute Maid Park
Final score: Rangers 8, Astros 5 MVP: 1 Mitch Moreland, Rangers: 3-4, 3 RBI, 2 run scored, 1 HR, 1 double, 1 BB
In a game where both starting pitchers were hit early and hit hard, it took a couple of late inning runs for the Rangers to complete the season-opening road sweep of Houston. The Astros, looking to bounce back from yesterday's 17-2 shellacking, got started early, with a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning, and another 2-run shot in the 3rd inning on their way to 5 early runs. However, the Rangers slowly chipped away, and the game was tied at 5 by the time the starters exited the game. The bullpens did their job, but the Rangers got to Paul Clemens, Josh Fields, and José Veras late, pushing 3 runs across in the last 2 innings, and the Rangers bullpen slammed the door on the Astros to send the home team to a 3rd straight loss to open the season.
TEX 8/14/0 – WP: Nick Tepesch (1-0); S: Joe Nathan (2) HOU 5/5/1 – LP: Paul Clemens (0-1)
Hou 1st: José Altuve draws a lead off walk, and Brett Wallace deposits the first pitch he see over the wall in right field for an early 2-0 lead. 2-0 HOU Tex 2nd: Nelson Cruz drops a 1-out single into left, races to 3rd on AJ Pierzynski's single to right, and scores on Mitch Moreland's single to right. 2-1 HOU Tex 3rd: Adrián Beltré slaps a 2-out pitch to right for a single and scores on a double to right by David Murphy, sliding in under the tag on a throw in by Rick Ankiel; a wild pitch moves Murphy to 3rd, and he scores on a 2-base error by Matt Dominguez. 3-2 TEX Hou 3rd: Altuve reaches on a lead off single to right; Wallace strikes out; Carlos Peña hits a comebacker to the mound, with Altuve forced at 2nd but the relay not quick enough to nab the hitter; Chris Carter jacks a 2-1 pitch into right field for a 2-run home run; Jason Castro goes-back-to-back with a solo shot to right field. 5-3 HOU Tex 4th: Moreland hits a lead off home run to right. 5-4 HOU Tex 5th: Murphy draws a lead off walk; after a strike out, a Pierzynski single moves Murphy to 2nd, and he scores on a Moreland double; Pierzynski is subsequently thrown out at the plate on a comebacker to the mound off the bat of Leonys Martín. 5-5 Tex 8th: Martín bloops a lead off single to center, steals 2nd base, gets to 3rd on a single by Ian Kinsler, and scores on a sacrifice fly by Elvis Andrus. 6-5 TEX Tex 9th: Pierzynski hits a 2-out pitch off the wall in left, which takes an awkward bounce away from Carter and allows Pierzynski to slide in with a triple; Moreland walks; Martín hits a 2-run triple into left center. 8-5 TEX
(Strat note: Another game with back-to-back dice triples sandwiching a walk, though this time the walk was also a dice roll and the rolls for the triples came off of different pitchers/cards, so not as improbable as the previous time this happened. Early fireworks, but somehow things seemed to calm down - for a moment - with the bullpen in. Every single Astro started, and 1 of the 2 pinch hitters, struck out at least once, which is impressive in a bad way.)
Texas 3-0; Houston 0-3 Next game in replay: DET (Sánchez, 0-0) @ MIN (Correia, 0-0)
