Actually though I lowkey hate when modern aus make kks a veteran/active military his ass would noooootttttt voluntarily enlist
#the entire point of his backstory is that he would not voluntarily enlist????#he would rather be hanging out with his dogs (& maybe his kids if he was feeling nice) while reading a book than do anything military ever#I feel like trying to 1/1 translate Kakashi’s trauma from fhe military system of Naruto to trauma from the modern military system#(especially if it’s the American military)#kinda misses the mark because Kakashi’s trauma is so linked with the nature of the Naruto world’s military system. you know#like an American solider who went to Afghanistan is not the same as someone who was born into a village who forces all capable young people#to become soldiers/assasins/hired help for basically anyone who wants them#I reject the false equivalence of Shinobi = American soldiers#the American military consists of people who voluntarily signed up to legally murder#the shinobi in Naruto are forced into legal murder with the knowledge that if they attempt to shirk the life of a soldier they will either#be otherwise involved in supporting the war machine (Iruka being unable to kill children at age 17 = he teaches children to kill adults#for the rest of his life) or killed because they ‘betrayed the village’ (see: Hunter-nin as a concept))#naruto
