4. Iroh is a deeply flawed character. Absolutely, he was exactly what Zulu needed but, for one, his utter disregard for Azula, who was also an abused child who needed help was kinda fucked but also, this man waged war across the Earth Kingdom for decades, doubtless killing many thousands of civilians, as well as sacrificing hundreds of thousands of soldiers at Ba Sing Se for his own ambitions only to render their deaths completely pointless by giving up when it finally effected him personally when his son died, and THEN he allows his supervillain of a brother to take charge of his nation and continue to sacrifice soldiers to Sozin’s lie and abuse his children, which iroh could have stopped had he been firelord and putting him in a position to nearly end the fucking world six years later, because he just kinda didn’t wanna anymore. Then, when the time to get rid of Oxus and end the war finally comes he foists the responsibility of managing a vast nation and untangling the diplomatic shithole that comes with negotiating the end of a century long multi-national conflict onto his 16 year old nephew who has exactly zero experience of governance or diplomacy and whose closest friends and advisors are all younger than he is. I could go on. I love iroh but seriously this man has got sooo much baggage that’s never really addressed by the canon or the fandom. Damn that went on a bit.
