On Friday, November 13, astrophysicist Dr. Kim Dahyun and her research team went from Busan to Seoul to visit a location where they were tasked with conducting a comprehensive examination.
Based on radar data from their headquarters, it was seen that around midnight yesterday, an object that seems to be a fragment of an asteroid or comet crashed into the vicinity of Seoul.
Their chief professor and mentor at the research lab gave them the order to report any unusual sightings they came across there before calling the military and defense squad to seize control of the area and place it under lockdown, keeping everyone outside of the sector out.
Dahyun and her group entered the hidden area through their vehicle, bypassing the main road and making their way to the designated site. They made the decision to park close to the danger zone as they were leaving the road so they could more easily reach the astronomical devices inside.
"So what's this anomaly of yours supposed to look like?" One of her intern graduated to SNU, YN LN asked her after arranging all the panels around the van.
"It's almost the same as what we used to find from the sky, but this one was the first to do the unthinkable." Dahyun answered, wiping her eyeglasses. "The record says that it's like a small shooting star that emerged from the sky, but the impact it left when it came contact here almost triggered a mild earthquake."
"So that's why the sent us in." He responded, nodding his head understandably.
Dahyun turns her head around, acknowledging her other assistant who is testing some devices that they will equip on their hands outside. "Uhm, Minyoung excuse me for a sec will you?"
"Yes, Miss Kim?"
"Can you grab for me that gloves beside the first cabinet?" She pointed at the direction. Minyoung saw it and unhesitantly passed it to her. "Thanks."
"Are you guys good now?" She checked on her accomplices. They signalled her with a positive note. "Okay, let's take a look what they have in store for us."
After getting out of the van, they began to swing the tall leaves that were obstructing their view and path on the verdant field. They weren't even gone from their car for that far when they observed something startling.
The three researchers were welcomed with a bald area on the top portion of the field, which was produced by a big crater on the land. The leaves that were impacted by the collision scattered across the hole.
"This looks huge." YN exclaimed with a gasping mouth. "Are you all sure it's just a thin shooting star-like that appeared yesterday?"
"It is. They even presented it to me." Dahyun explained. "The anomalies here would be always associated to the geological condition here. I have a chart that describes everything we have encountered for these past few years and I've never seen anything like this that an unknown object also gave us a hard time dealing with a quake."
"We better get starting now because to be honest, this is getting really unpredictable to the minute and I couldn't understand what's going on as long as we see it ourselves." Minyoung suggested. Dahyun and YN looked at her and they were both convinced. YN planted a huge nail beside the crater and wrapped a rope around it that will serve as their handle when going down to the crater.
As the three of them made it below. They began to look around and observe deeply the surfaces. Minyoung kneels down and poked a stick on a gross material, forming a disgusted expression on her face. "Uhh guys, take a look at this."
Dahyun and YN came towards her. "Does this remind you of something?" Minyoung said as she twirled and flipped it around, almost like she's playing on it.
"Is that an eggshell?" YN asked, furrowing his brows at the black and velvet-colored thin piece swimming at a pool of gooey substance.
"Could be. Just look at the fluids around that probably came from this." Dahyun said, mentioning the slime. They garnered their eyes more at their surroundings, there were even bigger ones that what Minyoung has found and they were also mostly covered with a slime.
"Get away from that, Minyoung-ah. Don't you see how disgusting it is?!" YN scolded his friend. He started to cover his nose too with his shirt. "And do you guys smell that?"
"Yeah, it's bad." Dahyun clenched her face in dislike. "Feels like there's a rotting organ in here."
"Wait, so are we gonna conclude right away that we just discovered a cracked egg?" YN said. He scoffed and rubbed his face. "Am I correct at what I think this might mean?"
"No, YN. We're just getting started here. We are researchers we came here to finish our task and not do it in rush just because we're in an unsettling situation right now." Dahyun protested. "We don't jump into conclusions right away."
"S-sorry, Prof." YN bowed his head. "It's just.. I'm sensing something wrong in here."
"YN, let's just wish it would not happen at all. Okay?"
YN looked at Dahyun's comforting and calm demeanor. He nodded shyly. "Yes, Ms. Kim."
Snapping a few photos of the scene, Dahyun gave Minyoung and YN the order to take everything out of the van that would be necessary for them to make a report and gather any evidence that they would find here. Dahyun borrowed a tracker and used it to glide around the crater's borders while they did so.
The tracker bumped against a tall leaf, and the alarm began to sound loudly. After receiving an alert, Dahyun was perplexed as to what it had discovered. Before she caught anything, she inspected the dirt and leaves in the area.
The leaves did not have sharp, pointed ends. Rather, it appears as though the flower has grown directly onto the leaf, utilizing it as a stem or something unexplainable. Dahyun thought it was rather strange to see a flower extending through the body of the leaves itself.
She stepped back to wipe the dust off her face as the flower burst some sprinkle of nectar on her face as she reached out to touch it. She held her tracker again while she coughed, but she quickly figured out that it was unresponsive.
"There's got to be some power or equipment malfunction" Dahyun hissed on the device as she carried it. "Minyoung! YN! I need a help on-"
Dahyun was about to walk back on the van when suddenly she went out of balance and slipped through the crater. When she was about to get up, she saw the van fleeted upwards to the sky, a hole was formed on the bottom of the vehicle before it splitted in half when it crashed on the ground. Her heart shattered she heard it explode.
She wasn't devastated because of the vehicle, but because of the fact that two of her colleagues were inside that van when it exploded. "NOOOOOOOO!!!!" she shouted at the horrific sight from outside the crater.
Dahyun ran through the ropes and hurriedly climbed but she started getting drowsy and lightheaded, her body losing it sense until it managed to get her out of the grip from the rope, sending her unconscious inside the crater.
Right after she snapped out, the ground she's laying at started to flow like waves.
Dahyun woke up hours later, but not without a clue on her, as her mind was still rebooting from what happened to her earlier. Her eyes opened, and there she witnessed herself sitting in the middle of what it seems to be a cave.
She slowly risen up to her feet, her feet stumbled a bit as she felt a dull ache on her head once again. Rubbing it to ease it off atleast, Dahyun breathed deeply before returning back her attention on her current situation of getting stuck.
She couldn't find any light that would provide her to a clearer vision of everything around her. Nervous and desperate to find a route to escape, Dahyun had no other choice but to walk around and explore for a route way out.
"HELPPP!!! ANYBODY OUT THERE CAN HEAR ME?!" Dahyun pleaded as loud as she can reach on her voice. "MINYOUNG? YN? WHERE ARE-"
She paused as she recalled earlier seeing their van where her two assistants were staying in. Her emotions overtook her, releasing teardrops across her face. She also began to feel guilty, thinking that she should have ordered them to go back inside and fetch all of their equipment on her behalf.
Maybe if it wasn't for her, she wouldn't led both her friends on their own demise. Dahyun sobbed heavily as she repeated calling their names in agony.
She slammed her hand accidentally on some surface. Dahyun probably guessed it a wall where she could support herself while trailing along the cave. She took the opportunity, caressing and patting it.
However, Dahyun noticed something different. It was rough, soft, and quite sticky as she could describe. She tried to smell it, and it brought her to a familiar rotten organ smell she, Minyoung, and YN had depicted earlier.
"Huh? What is this?" Dahyun questioned herself where she is also the only one who could find the answer. With one more pat onto the strange wall, she noticed the entire area start to glow including the one where she is touching.
She roamed her eyes around, and it made her tensed to learn that she does indeed correct on her being stuck inside a cave right now, but rather everything that blocks her from the possibility of escaping is covered with unidentified type of organs.
There was a dark area on the far end just right in front of Dahyun's direction. She could swear that she had a glimpse of something that just moved there and disappeared from the shadows in a few second. "WHO'S T-THERE?!" she shouted as she started having suspicions in her mind.
Taking few steps ahead to check out what it is, a loud roar put her into halt before she was about to scream in terror. She fell on her butt and her breathing goes faster, wondering what kind of a monstrous noise she just heard.
She then saw something emerging from the drak shadows. In her utmost bewilderment and panic, an abomination has appeared in front of her, standing tall with its bulbous, humungeous and very disfigured appeareance.
It's size is like almost half of the space of the cave they're occupying, and Dahyun was in complete disbelief that the fear of YN he was trying to refer a while ago has unfortunately manifested into reality. A beast from the space or in other term made by humans ourselves, called aliens- are real in Dahyun's universe.
"D-don't come closer to me!" Dahyun tensefully said as she starts to crawl away from the monster. It blabbered some unusual noises that almost formed some inaudible words while shaking its head madly, and after that, Dahyun saw something popping out of its body.
Two slimy tentacles just came out from each sides and began crawling through Dahyun to reach each of her ankles and get wrapped. She then felt her body being dragged closer to the monster and Dahyun repeatedly yelled, begging for it to stop while tugging the tentacles with all the force she could apply to yank it off, only to end up with no effect.
As Dahyun was placed almost inches away from the gigantic alien creature, she has finally accepted her fate of being helpless and in danger. Tears filled with nothing but negative emotions streamed out of her eyes before the monster blew out some gas that has a color similar to the nectars that were sprayed on her by an infected plant earlier.
After she smelled it, she soon finds her body growing into a sense of arousal that urges her horny feelings to activate. She tried to endure it but she could swear that her skin were releasing more sweat and her pussy and her nipples are starting to become sensitive.
The tentacles must've found the lustful sensation brewing inside of her, and they took the perfect timing as one of them starts to slid through her pencil skirt and lift it up her tummy before it traces her pussy through the soaked panty. It's partner focused on her clothed breasts, bumping it and feeling its softness as it bounces.
Several more tentacles were released from the creature, but this time with various sizes and colors. Some were lighter or darker, some where thicker or thinner. The thin ones snaked through her sleeve and forcefully spreaded her top, revealing her white strapped bras containing her milky tits.
The rest then helped to remove her skirt, exposing her into half naked with her matching pair of white bra and panties. "NOOO! PLEASE, DON'T DO IT!" Dahyun pleaded until she unexpectedly released a sultry moan when a fast tentacle moves through her cheek and rubs itself on her skin.
All the tentacles starts to wrap around on her meaty thighs and slender arms in order to suspend her in mid-air. Their touch becomes even more satisfying and felt relaxing to Dahyun despite how denial the words coming out of her mouth.
Being half-naked and spreaded in front of the creature's ugly looking face, the tentacle then moved from her cheek to her lips as it continues to rub across Dahyun's pretty face. Her lips starts to pucker and the effects of the strange gas which was probably aphrodisiac as Dahyun guessed, made her more susceptible as it clouded her mind with lust and temptation.
She starts kissing the tentacle before it slid through her mouth, she sucks on it like it was a cock entering on her.
The other tentacles started to become bold also. They tugged and remove her bras and panties, finally making her naked. There's these suction cups- like tentacles went to crept up on her torso to her underboobs, feeling her perky tits bounce on their motions before its lips opened and sucked on her hardened pinky nipples.
Thinner tentacles spreaded her walls, assisting the thicker tubular object crawl and enter her tight pussy. It effectively brought another relieving feeling on Dahyun's aroused body, moaning in rhythm to the tentacle's barging on her constricted hole.
Their movements became faster and rougher, including the suction cups almost biting her nipples then returning to lick on it like there were supposed to have milk leaking out of Dahyun's breasts.
Due to the sudden increase of pace, it also din't allow more time for the tentacles to reach their limit. Despite her little efforts and strength to shake them off their body, Dahyun uncontrollably welcomes their slimy liquid that probably resembles to a man's cum, into her warm throat and womb.
She lets out a poor groan and whimper, sniffling in fear of what it could bring her after when she watched the odd colors and thickness of their cum flowing out of her. She hoped it would not cause her to get pregnant, especially if it would mean that she would breed an abnormal hybrid that sets aparts from what a normal baby should look like.
Desire is what Dahyun could just accept within her, disturbing and letting out the pleasure she has long kept to seek any solutions for it. First load wasn't enough for the tentacles howsoever, as she felt the tentacles changing their hold on her limbs to prepare her for a next position.
Still hanging from the mid-air, Dahyun's body was forced to bend, with her backdoor being the one facing the beast. The tentacles spreaded her legs, causing her cheeks and puffy pussy to open a little.
With her arms around her back, Dahyun endured all the harsh slaps of the thicker tentacles to each of her curvy asscheeks. She lost the count of how many times they played on it, too obsessed on how soft and big enough for it to give comfort on these creatures.
Funtime didn't lasted longer as they went already to the next move. She felt the girthy pair pounding both her asshole and pussy, fucking them simultaneously. Her body went back and forth at their movement.
The suction cups returned to play on her breats, tugging on her nipples and stretching them as farther her endurance could take. Dahyun hissed in a mixture of pain and pleasure only because it aided the abuse her tits were being applied at when she felt something gliding through her entire back.
She turned her head around and witnessed the alien sticking out its wide and long tongue slurping the taste of of the sweat forming across her back view.
The thick tentacles reached their climax, exploding a second amount of load to her love holes. Dahyun huffed at the unmatched energy of these active creatures using her body for pleasure.
As they release from her ass and pussy. She was repositioned again. She was now facing the monster completely before she gulped when she realized what she was about to suffer next.
A huge- like literally- gigantic cock, probably measuring around 14 or 15 inches in size unbeatable to any men's size around the world, is ready to explore Dahyun's innards. Dahyun wiggled her legs, afraid that she might break from being unable to take his girth.
But again, she is outnumbered with numerous tentacles attached to her body, imprisoning her from any attempts of escaping, even though she has no other palns anymore as the aphrodisiacs are still in full effect on her.
Their strength pressed Dahyun's body to the awaiting cock. Due to its massive size it struggled to enter Dahyun's tight little pussy before it succeeded, only for the poor scientist to scream and grit her teeth in a shocking pain while the creature twitched and produced more creepy noises.
Thankfully, it didn't last long as the impressive pleasure began to take over her body when the monster started ramming his cock on her pussy, demolishing her womb inside. She went crazily bouncing on its crotch. Dahyun's eyes are completely white, with her pupils now rolled at the back at the intense pace of fucking she's receiving.
Her mouth began to lustfully agape, with her tongue sticking out as the monster cock continues to push deeper across Dahyun's walls. Her ass starts to create loud claps around the cave as it hits the alien's crotch repeatedly.
The giant cock stuffed into her pussy then pulsated, as it erupted a terrifying amount of dirty white cum almost inflating Dahyun's stomach like she is about to be mistakenly identified as pregnant, before it slowly slid out of her pussy, allowing the rest of the load to explode out of her abused hole.
The tentacles lets go of her body, releasing Dahyun on the ground, which gave her time to rest for a while. She panted heavily and speechless at the rough fucking she just had with the monster alien. She couldn't deny that there might be no other man she would ever met that would match the performance of what this monster has showed to her.
All of the tentacles and the bulbous cock slowly erected again the more the creature stares at Dahyun's messy and sticky nude body lying on the floor. They decided to proceed with the last action, as they focus once again on her nether regions.
Lifting her up, they spreaded her arms and legs again and faced her closer to the creature. The suction cups slowly crawled on her back then cupped her full breasts from behind. Dahyun whined and moaned at the relaxing and tickly feeling it gives. One tentacle went through her tongue, a pair goes back to her pussy and asshole.
There was a twist added again coming from the idea of the monster. Wanting to give every single part of her body that could provide a purpose of satisfaction to this monster's desire, they let go of Dahyun's hands and two tentacles caressed her fingers.
Dahyun sensed their hidden message for doing that and finding out the answer, she formed a fist and gripped the tentacles, stroking them like she would do to a male cock.
All of her body and now functioning properly following the monster's command. Dahyun's mind is full of sex. She has been hypnotized and manipulated too much by the pleasure and sensation that the creature has been passing through her using its ability to fuck her senseless and take her breath away.
The thick tentacles had her overpowered and weak from the way they drill through her holes as deeper as they could get. Dahyun felt her neck bulging as the tentacle gave her a deep throat, her clit being scrubbed by a tentacle with a brush-like end on it to add more pleasure, and the other tentacle wiggling around her ass.
They all began to pull the trigger of increasing the speed while they all moved in unison, their grip on her skin went tighter as they felt this familiar tightness in their system, approaching the climax of their endurance. Dahyun squirted her juices again and spasmed at her own orgasm, resulting to her walls clamping on the tentacles more.
Few more waves, pumps and strokes they gave and finally they executed their final blow, releasing their cum flowing through her throat, ass and pussy simultaneously, as she switches through gags and moans. The two other tentacles enwrapped on her fists splashed their warm sticky liquid on her arms and side of her face.
The rest of the tentacles joined, painting Dahyun's entire body with the rest of the cum flowing and leaking out of its ends. As they finished, the tentacles crawled around Dahyun's skin, giving her body a nice calming massage to ride out their lengthy session of sex and intense orgasms they shared.
Dahyun couldn't opened her eyes wide anymore as she knew she's completely drained now. The creature slowly laid her back on the ground with her body entirely covered with cum. She also weakly spitted and coughed out some from her mouth after unable to swallow all of the load down to her filled tummy.
Now that she can have her rest, Dahyun slowly shuts her eyes as she went unconscious, while the tentacles continue to caress her hair gently and massage her body, especially her addicting round tits, as they wiped away all the stuffs around her pearly skin.
When she woke up again from her long slumber, she found herself lying on a hospital bed with her body now clothed in a hospital gown.
Realizing that she is now in a hospital and two familiar people sleeping with their head resting beside her bed, she concluded that after everything that happened to her, she was now free and safe from that creature she encountered.
She gasped and shuddered as she remembered what it did to her, it awakened her parents and quickly hugged her in response to her fine state. "Oh thank God you're okay.", her mother said.
"How are you feeling, daughter?" Mr. Kim checked up on her. "It's been days you were confined. We were really worried that something worse could happen."
"I-I'm alright… I'm just… still tired." Dahyun said in a weak tone. Her eyes became watery when she remembered Minyoung and YN. "Mom… Dad, we-… we got ambushed. They didn't make it, it's my fault." she said as her lips trembled.
"No, daughter. Don't blame yourself, we know you can't do such bad thing with whole intention. I know you." Mrs. Kim said, rubbing her palms to calm down her poor daughter.
"We heard what happened to you and your team, Dubu. We're sorry." Her father stated in sympathy. "But we couldn't help ourselves to be thankful that we have been given a miracle to have you still here, safe and sound."
"I missed you, Mom… Dad." Dahyun holds her mother's hand and looked them in the eyes tenderly. "I thought I wouldn't make it."
"Oh, by the way. If you may be wondering how did we managed to get you here, it's all thanks to your workmates. They sent a rescue on the location where they found you lying on a grass field with your…. dress torn up covering your body." Her father gulped and lowered his head in regret at the last words. Dahyun just furrowed her brows, couldn't recall that part.
Dahyun saw her mom getting choked up on her emotions. She pressed her hands on her own and stared at her eagerly. "Dubu, answer me with all honesty. Okay?"
Dahyun just listened attentively on what her mom's about to ask. "W-who did this to you?"
Their conversation were interrupted when the door opened. Two men appeared in a room, in which Dahyun speculated that it's a doctor and the other one works in the military.
"Pardon to interrupt, Mr. and Mrs. Kim but this gentleman right here is taking a visit and… to ask for a request for the both of you." The doctor said. He looked at his patient, his face lightened in relief. "Oh, you're Miss Dahyun right? Good thing that you're awake. How are you feeling?"
"Fined, doc." Dahyun replied.
"Is there anything you need from us, sir…?" her mother asked.
"General Knight Yoo of the Seoul Military Army. Greetings to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Kim." the military man introduced himself to the family, performing a salute gesture. "Yes, I actually would like to speak with your daughter."
They all looked at Dahyun who became curious at the acknowledgement. "For what, sir?"
"It's regarding to that research that your team embarked near outside Itaewon." Knight elaborated. Dahyun's eyes widened in astonishment as his words struck those memories of her on that given time to repeat in cycle on her mind, including that one awful experience that she had.
"Your faculty cooperated with us in order to seek help when they lost their line to your team. We went through an investigation at that site and we found something… threatening, and we assume that since you're the only survivor in the incident confirmed yet, we would like you to enlighten us as we interrogate you about what actually happened."
Dahyun pursed her body forward slight from leaning on the bed, her face showed a puzzled expression. "Wait, what do you mean 'yet'?"
General Yoo maintained his intrigued stare at the patient. "Ms. Bae Minyoung's remains were found by the forensic team but your other accomplice, Mr. YN LN is still nowhere to be found but some of his torn out clothing were seen inside a cave. We will give it one week before we rule him as deceased."
Dahyun's switched looks at the four people gathered around her before she lured away her eyes filled with hope for her friend's disappearance from them.
Her traumatic experience of being conquered by an abomination should've brought her instantly to cooperate with the armed forces as they requested for her to stand up as the witness and part of the evidence in this important matter.
But rather, she's conflicted about what she should consider telling to them.
The idea of the alien monster who also amazingly pleasured her beyond the edge, disregarding the actual peculiar possibility behind the monster's odd behavior when she was held captive which failed for Dahyun to intepret; made her think twice on the decision she has to unveil.

"Aren't you excited to meet the dogs?" Sana asks the little girl in the back seat as Jihyo watches her from the rearview mirror.
Tzuyu looks at her with her eyes wide open and nods her head sheepishly, being so shy you wouldn’t tell she has been waiting a whole week to meet not one but three doggies as promised by her new moms, Sana and Jihyo. They also told her she will meet two girls like her and their mothers, but this part of the deal is not as thrilling for her.
She is a really shy kid. She gets nervous in crowded places and it takes her a while to feel comfortable around new people. It took her around five visits to start talking back to Jihyo and Sana and she finally told them she wanted to go home with them after six months of almost weekly visits. So the idea of meeting six new people at the same time is not very appealing, that is why their moms have made sure their friends bring their dogs too.
Tzuyu loves dogs and Sana and Jihyo love Tzuyu. They are both willing to do whatever it takes to make her feel comfortable, safe, protected, cared for and heard.
A month ago she arrived home, since then the three of them are adjusting to their new life together. It is still an ongoing process, but with these small steps they hope that little by little this will become their new normal as a family.   Soon she will have to start school, so when Jeongyeon told them that her sister had rented a hanok for her to spend Christmas with her family and invited them to join them with Momo and Mina as well, they did not hesitate to accept the offer. It would be the perfect opportunity to introduce them to Tzuyu and besides, their daughter could start socializing with children her age and it might go better than their attempts to get her to interact with other kids at the park.
A little farther away, in Jeongyeon and Nayeon's car, Chaeyoung asks her moms in concern "Does Tzuyu like strawberries?" while absent-mindedly caressing Kookeu that sleeps resting his head on the girl’s lap.
Jeongyeon sighs after losing count of how many questions her daughter has asked them about the new member of their unique family. After finding out she is not a baby but a six-year-old girl like her, her interest increased and she has been asking nonstop about her. Things like her favorite color, if she likes painting or drawing, what food she likes and a dozen other things that Nayeon and Jeongyeon can only answer by saying she can ask them herself when they arrive.
Something similar happens with Dahyun, although her questions are undoubtedly much more complicated, probably due to the one-year difference between the two. It all started because she doesn't understand how her aunts have had a daughter of Chaeyoung's age instead of a baby. “I don't get it,” she says, crossing her arms slightly frustrated and looking at her mother with distrust. "It doesn't make sense, mommy" she says fussing and raising her voice slightly "How can auntie Sana have a 6 year old girl in her belly? She can't fit in! And auntie Jihyo is even smaller!" she whines.
In the driver's seat, Momo tries to contain her laughter, but can't help letting out a chuckle at her last statement. Next to her, Mina just giggles as she realizes the reason behind her daughter’s worry, maybe they should have had a conversation about this whole thing earlier and not on the way to meet Tzuyu. However, with everything that Mina has had on her mind these past few weeks she has been letting the now inevitable conversation slide.
"Honey, Tzuyu doesn't come from Sana's or Jihyo's belly. Remember when we talked about the different types of families there are?" Mina begins to explain.
"Yes" Dahyun nods energetically. "Some people have a daddy and a mommy, other people have two daddies or two mommies and sometimes they have just a mommy like me, but there are as many types of families as there are colors" she quotes the explanation her mother has given her so many times.
Mina can't help but smile as she hears her daughter repeat word for word the phrase she has told her every time she leaves the father's information blank on school trip authorizations, when other children ask her where her dad is, or that time she had to make a family tree as homework. Her daughter knows these words by heart and she can only hope that Dahyun truly feels this way.
"That’s right love” she asserts. “There are also children who don't have parents and there are families who don't have children, so they adopt those children and become a family. Tzuyu used to have no mommy and daddy, but now she lives with Sana and Jihyo who are her mommies".
She speaks slowly taking into consideration every word that comes out of her mouth, trying to simplify it as best as she can, so that the information can be processed by the child's brain. Mina knows she has to make it easy and clear while discussing it with the importance that such a topic requires.
During the explanation Dahyun listens attentively and her mother can see her opening her mouth slightly showing the gap left by her baby teeth that are no longer there. Mina immediately recognizes that look, her daughter is considering all this new information and she gives her some time.
"What does it mean to adopt?" she asks, frowning at the new word.
This time it is Momo who gives an answer "It means they take her home to live with them and now they take care of her, give her hugs, help her get dressed, feed her...just like I did with Boo and-".
But before Momo can illustrate the definition, she is cut off by a slap from Mina on her thigh.
"Oh my god you're not comparing the dogs to Sana and Jihyo's daughter" Mina scolds her in a hushed tone so Dahyun can't hear her.
"Sorry" Momo mutters as she turns her attention back to the road.
The conversation is interrupted by Boo’s bark after hearing his name, still this distraction is not enough to stop the gears in the kid's mind. Both adults are willing to indulge her curiosity whether she is aware of the weight of the matter they are talking about or if this is just part of her ‘why?’ phase.
"But if she wasn’t in no one's belly, why is she their daughter?".
"She doesn't need to be in any of your aunt's belly" Mina smiles softly "Don't you love Momo?" she tries.
"I love Momo" she says, nodding quickly.
"And I love you, Dubu" Momo speaks again with a big smile.
"And she's your family, right?" Mina already knows the answer. It is something that has been confirmed by all the drawings pinned on the fridge door with three stick figures surrounded by hearts and joined by two circles with ears that are supposed to be Boo and Dobby.
"Yes!".
"But you weren't in her belly and Momo takes care of you just like I do. She makes you breakfast, walks you to school, takes care of you when you are sick, dances with you and lets you sit on the counter while she cooks. She loves you just like I do" she says, watching Momo's cheeks blush.
"MOMO IS ALSO MY MOTHER?!” she screams shocked by this newly found fact. Still surprised, she adds a second question  “CAN I CALL HER MOM?" Dahyun screams again, causing Momo to almost swerve the car.
This time there is only one person who can answer the question, so Mina just looks at her partner with the most loving gaze while Momo is short-circuiting. It's not as if the conversation has never come up before, the two have talked about it many times and she knows that, to Momo, Dahyun is her daughter and that she loves her as such. Even if she hasn't vocalized it yet at least consciously. On some occasions the little girl has called her “mom” or “mommy”, but she always assumed she did it accidentally, so to hear from her own mouth that she wants to call her the same way she does with Mina is a big deal.
“S-sure” Momo stutters after a few seconds and just smiles widely.
Beside her, Mina feels like her chest is going to burst as she grabs Momo's hand and looks at her smiling with eyes sparkling with love. The truth is that for some time now when she thinks of family she no longer thinks only of Dahyun and her older brother but also of Momo, Boo and Dobby. When she thinks of family she thinks of her friends whom she sees as sisters and her daughters whom she sees as nieces. It's just a word, but it makes it all more real. They are a family.
In the front seats both women do their best to hold their tears back, behind them Dahyun starts rambling about how she will tell Chaeyoung that now she has two mothers too and that her mom can cook just like Jeongyeon, so she has a mom and a mommy who can cook yummy things as if it's some kind of competition. They know that at some point they will have to tell her that she should not brag about these things to other children, but for now they let her enjoy the moment.
The way is long, but they all think it is worth it when they see the stunning place that Jeongyeon's rich and famous sister has rented as a belated birthday present and an early Christmas present so that they can enjoy this holiday with their other family, the one that her sister and sister-in-law have built and chosen. The gift was well received and greatly appreciated by all, except for Mr. and Mrs. Yoo. Jeongyeon's parents did not like the idea of not spending Christmas spoiling their only granddaughter, but when her daughter told them that it would be a good opportunity to meet the newly adopted daughter of Jihyo and her wife, they were quick to ask her and Nayeon to organize a lunch at their house with all the kids. It took them only a few hours to buy matching pajamas for Chaeyoung and the other girls.
Now they are all in the large traditional style house surrounded by nature, away from the city, but close enough to a village not to be too isolated. The air is fresh, there is no pollution and the only thing that can be heard is the one or two birds, since at this time of the year most of them have flown to other places in search of higher temperatures. Without a doubt, it is the perfect place to celebrate Christmas and take a well-deserved rest that will last until the last days of the year. The truth is that there is still no agreement on whether they will celebrate the New Year here as well, but at least they will stay long enough to celebrate Sana's birthday together.
They all arrive around the same time and as soon as the cars stop two little girls who are a bundle of nerves  jump out of Jeongyeon and Jihyo's cars.
"BROOOOOOO!" they both scream at the same time as they do their – not so secret – handshake before melting into an embrace as if they hadn't seen each other a few days ago at school.
Mina sighs and covers her face with her hand "I need to have a word with my brother" she says aloud as a reminder to herself.
"I think she's so funny and adorable" Momo replies.
"Momoring, you are the least objective person in the world when it comes to these two" she smiles at her girlfriend. "They can literally do anything and you'd say they're adorable."
Between all the fuss caused by the two children, who are slightly over a meter tall, Tzuyu goes almost unnoticed for a few seconds as she clings to Sana's leg and grabs Jihyo's hand with her other hand.
"These are Chaeyoung and Dahyun, I promise you they are usually quieter" Jihyo informs Tzuyu as Sana laughs at the sight of the two's handshake and greeting.
At the sound of their names the two immediately turn their heads to their Aunt Jihyo and then to the girl holding her hand. Their eyes widen and point at her, then they look at their aunt again and it is Dahyun who speaks first.
"Is she Tzuyu?" she asks in excitement.
Jihyo and Sana nod at the same time while Tzuyu shyly waves her hand without saying a word.
They again turn their gaze to Tzuyu and then look at each other.
"You are very pretty" Chayeoung says, looking at her again.
"You are very tall" Dahyun says.
“Thank you” Tzuyu says almost in a whisper while she tries to hide even more behind Sana’s legs.
The rest of the women, noticing how scared their new niece looks, decide to give her some space before starting the introductions. For now she has enough with their enthusiastic daughters.
"Why don't we start taking things inside?" Jeongyeon asks, drawing the attention away from the timid girl. "You girls can give the dogs a walk so they can pee, since there are three I think we're going to need Tzuyu's help, don't you think?".
The children nod their heads and Tzuyu’s eyes light up at the suggestion, because since she got out of the car she hasn't taken her eyes off the three doggies still waiting in the cars for their seat belts to be unbuckled.
"Tzuyu would love that, right?" Sana states as she crouches down to Tzuyu's height to explain that she is her friend Jeongyeon, the mom of Chaeyoung and a pomeranian named Kookeu.
She just nods and stays silent but lets herself be guided by Sana, who walks with her to Momo's car, where Dahyun starts with the introductions. She introduces herself first, then her mommy Mina, her mom Momo. The latter who introduces her to Boo and Dobby while she puts the leashes on them and hands Boo's to Dahyun and Dobby's to Tzuyu who, despite her shyness, is clearly filled with joy.
At all times Sana stays by her side and gives her comforting glances every time she looks up and gently squeezes her hand reminding her that she is by her side. The gesture reassures Tzuyu who dares to thank Dahyun, Momo and Mina and then says in a whisper "I am Tzuyu, nice to meet you", just as her moms have taught her.
Dahyun smiles as she grabs the leash and seconds later Chaeyoung and Kookeu join in. This time, the oldest girl introduces Chaeyoung and Tzuyu formally, explaining that they are both the same age even though Chaeyoung is shorter and Tzuyu is even taller than Dahyun herself. Sana watches the interaction closely and can't help but laugh, her heart melts every time she sees Dahyun taking on the role of unnie as she usually does with Chae, and now doing it with her own daughter. She walks and watches over the three of them as they explore the surroundings of the house with the dogs before going inside while the rest of the mothers are taking bags and backpacks full of clothes, food, supplies and - of course - gifts out of the cars while the girls are distracted and out of sight.
"No, no, no, no" they hear Nayeon say as she takes some bags from her wife's hands.
"Oh come on honey, are you serious?" grumbles Jeongyeon.
"I'm dead serious, join Sana and the girls. I'm not going to let you carry anything."
"Nayeon... Even if I was you-know-what, I could carry this. I'm already following all the precautions and recommendations as well as having a bunch of vitamins, but I'm not going to be getting the pregnant woman treatment as if I can't do anything. I refuse to do that" she argues and in response receives a negative head shake.
"Look, I have a good feeling so I'm not going to let you carry anything. And the only reason I'm letting you drive, for now, is because we both know that between you and me only one of us is capable of driving us safely to a house in the middle of the mountains. And obviously the one who owns a car with scratches in the three colors of the parking column is not the one".
"Don't tell me you scratched the car again" sighs Jeongyeon tiredly.
"Don't change the subject and go inside the house now or go stretch your legs a bit with your daughter before we lose her among these plants that I'm sure are taller than her."
After hearing her reasoning, Jeongyeon has no choice but to accept his wife's suggestion and joins Sana, the three girls and the three dogs.
Once inside the house, Nayeon, Momo, Jihyo and Mina put everything in order and catch up with each other. Since the friend group was formed they try to see each other regularly and in the case of Momo, Mina and Nayeon - along with Jeongyeon - they often see each other at school and occasionally on play dates in the park. However, with the hectic pace of work, raising their daughters and taking care of the house, sometimes it is almost impossible to meet all of them together. Besides the fact that Jihyo and Sana have been practically absent these last few months, since they spent some time preparing everything for Tzuyu's arrival at home, and that this last month has been entirely dedicated to adapting to this new situation. This is the main topic of conversation among the women who ask Jihyo how she is handling it, if it is difficult, assure her that the best is yet to come, ask her how Sana has been doing and give her some parenting tips.
Jihyo is euphoric, she and Sana are the extroverts of the group and in general she is a very vocal person, but it is more than obvious to everyone that she is more talkative than usual. It is not the first time they see her like this, she was the same way when she met Tzuyu for the first time and when they started the adoption procedure. They love to see their friends like this and Mina and Nayeon remember that feeling of being new moms and how their friends were there to share the joy, fears and doubts. For a moment they are both brought back to the times when they listened to them talk for hours about names, diapers, cribs, milk, clothes, ultrasounds and a thousand other things.
In fact, it was Jihyo and Sana who were present during their pregnancies, respectively. Jihyo was the one who took Nayeon, who was suffering from contractions, to the hospital while Jeongyeon at her side told her how to breathe, even though she was the one who needed the breathing exercises the most at that moment. And well, Sana was even present when Mina gave birth to Dahyun taking the place of the biological father - or the sperm donor as Sana calls him -.
Momo, despite being the most recent addition to the group, almost three years ago, shares the excitement equally as the three of them listen to the first anecdotes that Sana and Jihyo have already experienced with Tzuyu at home. The truth is that they have all been hearing about her for more than half a year and although today they have finally met her, they already feel that they have known her for a long time and that she is part of their family.
"And it looks like Jihyo and Sana aren't the only new moms in the group, right Momo?" asks Nayeon arching her eyebrows looking at her "new" best friend.
Mina hearing it can't help but smile and Jihyo makes a surprised face, they both look at Momo who smiles shyly.
"That’s right" she says while still smiling "Dubu has officially given me the title".
"I was honestly surprised she hadn't called her mom by now. There are times she looks more like your daughter than mine" she says to Momo as she holds out her hand and strokes it with her thumb.
Mina takes advantage of Nayeon bringing up the topic of conversation and explains that it all came up in the car talking about Tzuyu and the adoption thing. Nayeon almost gets tears of laughter listening to Dahyun's confusion with the logistics, and like Momo she can't help but let out a laugh when she hears that one of the things she was really worried about is that Jihyo would have had someone so big in her belly when she was so small. Nayeon, for her part thanks aloud that Chae's questions were not so complicated, although they all agree that she and Jeongyeon have admirable patience after hearing that the questions didn't stop during the three-hour drive.
Jihyo's heart warms, despite her height being a joke even to her seven-year-old niece, listening to how the little ones have taken the news. It was a fact for her that both her friends and their daughters would welcome Tzuyu with open arms, but hearing the girls' doubts and their mothers' responses gives her peace of mind knowing that her daughter is surrounded by such wonderful people. For a while she felt guilty for not being able to give Tzuyu some grandparents to spoil her since the relationship with her own parents is non-existent and given that Sana's parents live in another country, but that thought disappears from her head when she listens to her friends. This is her family.
Not only is she comforted by listening to the three women but she takes note of their experiences and especially Mina's explanation to her daughter about the different types of families in case she ever has to use it with her daughter.
"Wow that's great" says Jihyo excitedly "Tzuyu still calls us by our name from time to time, but at least she has stopped calling us Mrs. Jihyo and Mrs. Sana" she laughs.
Once everything is in place, Mina starts preparing tea for the adults and milkshakes for the girls. Chocolate for Dahyun, strawberry for Chaeyoun and for Tzuyu... When she is about to look for Jihyo to ask her about it, the three dogs run in followed by the two children, Jeongyeon and finally Tzuyu who hasn't left Sana's side the whole time. Seeing the cute scene makes Mina smile tenderly, it reminds her a bit of herself when she was a child, so she can't help but laugh a little as she imagines how such a shy girl will handle having the most outgoing people she knows as mothers, for now they seem to be handling it quite well. She doesn't remember seeing Sana this calm in her life.
"Tzuyu, which milkshake do you prefer? We have chocolate, strawberry and vanilla" she asks her.
The girl looks first at her mother who gives her a little squeeze on the shoulder encouraging her to answer herself, even though she already knows the answer.
"Vanilla, please. Thank you" she replies immediately.
"Good choice. Dahyun is going to be delighted but you might break Chaeyoung's heart".
"Don't worry about that part, Mitang. We brought that ice cream that has all three flavors and I think everyone will be happy" says Sana looking at her daughter.
"Is Jihyo still competing with Nayeon for the favorite aunt spot?" Mina asks while Sana nods, rolling her eyes. "I think Nayeon brought the ingredients to make hot chocolate, I just hope Dahyun doesn't try to eat it all."
Sana laughs and replies "If it happens let's hope then she won't get a stomach ache like that time. I just can't stop Jihyo, you know how she is. She is very sexy when she gets into competitive mode."
"Have some decorum" she says laughing, covering half of her face with her hand and looking towards the little girl. "I can imagine, it's going to be fun when school starts. Remember when Nayeon almost got into a fight with a parent on sports day."
The two laugh while Tzuyu plays distractedly with her mom’s fingers and rings. The conversation does not last much longer because when the girl sees the dogs, she asks her mother to come with her to play with them.
As soon as Sana disappears from the kitchen Jeongyeon shows up, offering to help Mina, but they both know it's just an excuse. Like Momo and Nayeon, they haven't known each other practically all their lives - as is Jeongyeon's case with Nayeon and Jihyo - but from the beginning they connected very well and are now quite close probably because of how similar their personalities are. As people who sometimes deal with a bit of anxiety and have a tendency to overthink, they have found someone to lean on who understands them.
"You haven't done it yet, have you? "Jeongyeon asks Mina first.
She shakes her head "I've tried, I promise. But the truth is I'm glad I waited, if you give me a hand tonight I think I will do it" she says, unable to hide her gummy smile as she thinks about it.
"Yeah sure, just tell me what you have in mind and we'll find time to set it up."
"Same goes for you, I overheard your conversation with Nayeon earlier. So if there's anything I can help with, let me know" she offers.
"Don't worry about me, I've got it all planned out, Mitang" she tells her as she starts placing the cups of tea and milkshakes on a tray. "Or should I say bro" she teases her.
"Oh shut up Jeong, I'm regretting letting my brother babysit. The other day she called me 'bro'!" she says, making her friend laugh.
When Mina and Jeongyeon appear in the living room, they all sit around a table and start drinking tea while the girls drink their milkshakes, obviously Tzuyu's choice of flavor doesn't go unnoticed by the other two. Just as Mina predicted, Dahyun couldn't be happier to keep all the chocolate for herself while Chaeyoung is a little put off that her new friend doesn't share her passion for strawberries, although she is more reassured when she tells her that her favorite is vanilla but she also really likes strawberries. Chae and Dahyun soon get up to start exploring the house and play hide and seek while Tzuyu, still overwhelmed by all these new people, stays by herself playing with the dogs.
She talks to them, throws the ball and tries to teach them tricks although the only one who responds to her commands is Kookeu.  They all look at Tzuyu with adoring eyes as they see how tender she is with the animals while Nayeon's look of pride is directed at her beloved dog. Still she can't resist how adorable her new niece is so she takes the moment to introduce herself while showing her the tricks she has taught the pomeranian, making Tzuyu feel more comfortable. She is a shy and quiet girl and it is normal that the situation is too much for her, but as soon as they start talking about dogs, Nayeon gets to see the Tzuyu that Jihyo and Sana have already known within the walls of their home. She is lively, smiling, intelligent and can become talkative when the topic of conversation interests her, at least if it's about dogs.
After a while, Chayeoung goes to look for Tzuyu who is still playing with Kookeu and her mom while Dahyun makes a loud announcement for the adults. It seems that they have found a Christmas tree so big that it almost touches the ceiling with some boxes around it with all kinds of decorations in one of the rooms of the house, some of them similar to the ones they have at home and the ones they themselves have made at school. For the girls it is something magical and the adults let them believe it.
The next few hours they are all together decorating the tree, both kids and adults, while talking, laughing and singing. The end result is... colorful and eclectic. The tree has lights, ornaments of different colors and shapes that they had at home, the girls have collaborated with diy decorations full of glitter and doodles and some stuffed animals and superhero toys and even Mina and Jeongyeon have made their contribution with ornaments made of LEGO. All that's left is to put the star on the top of the tree.
Deciding who puts the star turns into a rock-paper-scissors competition between Chaeyoung and Dahyun, but also between Nayeon and Jihyo who want their daughters to place the star. After three rounds, Sana encourages her wife who has already rolled up her shirt sleeves showing her shoulders and is wearing her cap backwards. It is not until Jeongyeon sees the same competitive expression on her wife and daughter's face that she decides to put an end to it. Fortunately, they make the wise decision to have the three girls together put on the star with the help of their mothers. Jeongyeon, being the tallest of them all, has no problem holding Chaeyoung in her arms. Mina is a little taller than Momo, but her daughter has grown up and she finds it harder to carry her in her arms as she did before, so the girl ends up in the arms of Momo. The same happens with Sana and Jihyo, however, Jihyo's strength does not make up for her height even though Tzuyu is quite tall so she reluctantly lets Sana hold Tzuyu while Nayeon looks at her amused.
Each one of their little hands holds a part of the star with the help of their mothers and it is Nayeon who captures the moment first with her film camera and then with her phone, sending the photos to the group chat instantly. As soon as she receives the photo, Mina smiles when she sees one of them with only Momo and her daughter in it and quickly makes it her new lockscreen. The camera stays in Nayeon's hands for the rest of the day.
Decorating the tree together gets the youngest out of her shell, still she continues to play with the dogs, but she also starts playing with Dahyun and Chaeyoung. They run around the house for a while until Chaeyoung takes out her notebook, coloring books and crayons. In the kitchen Jeongyeon, Momo and Mina prepare lunch and in the dining room Sana, Jihyo and Nayeon set the table. The house is full of voices, laughter, jokes, curious questions from the girls and some barking from the dogs and also the children. When the food is ready all nine manage to adjust to the small table eating with their arms glued to the one next to them. They wouldn't change it for the world, but they comment that they should come back during the spring or summer so they might be able to eat at the large outdoor table under the sakura tree to enjoy the beautiful place where they are. From that moment some of them take out their phones and start looking at dates on the calendar, but Mina's mind travels to other places when she hears that the big tree outside the house is a sakura.
After eating and cleaning up together with the help of their daughters, they go around the house. Surprisingly, they get the girls to agree to take a nap, probably tired from being up early and having been awake throughout the long car ride. Jihyo joins them, as do Boo and Dobby who find a gap between Dahyun and Tzuyu, the younger one snuggles up to Jihyo's chest who even in her sleep puts her arms around her protectively, something that has come naturally to her.
In another room the rest have some Japanese sweets made by Mina and Momo with a game of cards between them, without Jihyo and Chaeyoung, there is no one to fuel Nayeon's competitiveness, leading to the most peaceful card game they have had in their life. It's certainly something that tends to happen when Nayeon is around Mina as long as Jihyo and some kind of game, competition or betting isn't also present and it seems that Tzuyu has that same effect on her mothers. But like all good things, the quiet is short lived and in less than an hour the girls wake up and show up with Jihyo, she could still take another hour of rest. She instead sits behind Sana resting her chin on her shoulder and wrapping her arms around her until she realizes that her wife has some cards in her hands and after giving Nayeon a defiant look she starts whispering strategies in her partner's ear.
Dahyun realizes that they are playing cards and runs to her backpack and takes out her UNO junior and they start a more serious and less noisy game than their mothers. If it wasn't for the colors and the printed animals on the cards, anyone would think that they are the ones who are betting money and not Jihyo and Nayeon who keep shouting while Sana only laughs. This time it is Momo who captures the moment on film after being the first to lose in the game. She sits next to Dobby and Boo and caresses them while watching and listening to them. She can't help but smile as she listens to the questions they ask Tzuyu trying to get to know her. When the game ends in a draw by Dahyun's decision and without any protest from Chaeyoung and Tzuyu, even though Momo doubts they have understood the game well, she finally asks.
"Who wants to make cookies?".
The question revolts the three little girls who immediately get up and squeal an enthusiastic "YES YES YES!" in unison joined by an excited Sana.
Momo takes them to the kitchen where there are two bags with everything they need. From the first bag she takes out three aprons like the one she wears in her restaurant, but these are a smaller version with each one's name embroidered on them. This small detail touches them so much that for a moment they forget the reason why they have put them on and Sana, despite not having an apron for herself, gives Momo a huge smile and says "thank you", touched by her friend's gesture.
In the end the little cooking class that Momo had prepared attracts the attention of the older ones as well and they all end up in the kitchen among flour, eggs, dough, icing and all kinds of toppings with all kinds of colors. Of course, they replace the Christmas gingerbread cookies with chocolate cookies, vanilla flavored cookies and cookies with strawberry icing to please everyone's tastes. Some mix, some knead, some shape the cookies and then bake them, and each one ends up with a pile of cookies to decorate according to her taste and decorating skills. When they are done with the cookies, they all dare to make a big cookie house, all nine of them.
To say that when they finished the kitchen was the usual mess you would expect after cooking would be an understatement, as it took almost as long to clean up as it did to make dozens of cookies and the eccentric cookie house. When everything is finally cooled down, they make some hot chocolate and coffee with whipped cream, marshmallow, caramel... Then again they gather around the table with a cup in their hands.
It's not very late, but it's been dark for a few hours now and the only light outside is from the lamps hanging from the ceilings of the house, some small bulbs decorating the garden of the house and the lights of some houses in the distance. They all take it as their cue to shower and get ready for bed, at least for the kids who instead of getting more and more tired are more and more animated as the evening comes and the time when Santa Claus will bring them their presents is closer.
There are only three girls, each under the care of two adults, but it takes them more than an hour to get them showered and dressed in their matching pajamas in the bed they have prepared for them. At first Tzuyu does not seem very sure about the idea, not that she is not used to it, in fact she used to sleep in a room with about ten or fifteen other girls, but this month she has spent it in the bed between Sana and Jihyo because she is still not able to sleep alone and now the idea of sleeping without them does not convince her.
"Come on, Tzuyu, sleep with us!" asks Chaeyoung, who can't stay away from her new friend.
"Sleep with us Tzuyu, you can sleep in the middle, since you are the little one we can take care of you just like when I let Chae the side of the wall so she won't fall" Dahyun tries to convince her.
That last statement just melts the heart of all the women who are watching their little negotiation, but especially Sana and Jihyo. They are no strangers to these special moments between girls but now, witnessing it as mothers, hits different.
"I have an idea" interjects Sana. "I will read a bedtime story to the three of you so Tzu can test if she likes this bed and if she likes it you can leave her one of the sides so she can come to our room if she needs it" she says while looking at her daughter who nods in agreement with the solution offered by her mommy.
"Yes, read it, auntie Sana!" exclaims Chae excitedly as Dahyun nods.
They love listening to Sana’s bedtime stories and the funny voices she does and Sana loves to read them bedtime stories. It has always been her favorite part of babysitting either of them and on occasion when she and Jihyo would invite them to have a sleepover at home giving their moms a break while at the same time she could enjoy something she thought she would never have until Tzuyu came into their lives. Sana has always had a very strong maternal instinct and with these things it shows even more. Her storytelling, answering the strangest questions and convincing three kids excited for Christmas to be in bed even before their usual bedtime are things that come naturally to her. Jihyo feels like her heart is about to explode when she sees these kinds of scenes and her friends couldn't be happier for her, to see that finally something she once saw as an impossible dream is now a reality.
Normally the only one who usually stays awake until the end of the tale is Chae because she gets absorbed with each story and can't sleep unless she hears the end, but this time Sana has to read them up to three stories until they all finally fall asleep.
Eventually it's time for the adults to relax, drink some wine, beer or soju and be able to talk and gossip without having to keep an eye on their surroundings to make sure that there is not a half-meter girl that they can badly influence if they hear them say a swear word or talk about some inappropriate topic. From time to time one of them goes to the room to check that everything is alright and that they are still asleep.
Once again, Mina somewhat nervously finds an excuse to drag Jeongyeon into the kitchen where she finally tells her about her plan and asks her to keep an eye out in case Dahyun wakes up or needs her while asking for some discretion. As she leaves the kitchen she heads to her room and returns with two coats, giving one to Momo to go with her to get some air. The others either don't notice or for Mina's sake pretend not to notice except for Jeongyeon who gives her a subtle thumbs up.
Her obvious nervousness and shaking hands suddenly catches Momo's attention causing her cheerful and slightly drunk expression to change to a worried face holding Mina's hands immediately.
"Babe, has anything happened, has your family called?" asks Momo worriedly knowing it's one of the things that triggers Mina's anxiety around this time of the year.
"No, no. Everything is fine" Mina assures her with a nervous smile and unable to hold her gaze.
"We've already talked about this, your hands are shaking. You can tell me anything, Mina. I got you" says Momo wrapping her arms around her and Mina can only feel lucky to have someone like that by her side.
She lets herself be taken in by the embrace and breathes in Momo's perfume, something that always soothes her, before pulling away and starting to talk.
"Baby, I'm okay. I promise" she says, grabbing her hands to stop the shaking of her own hands. "But if I'm going to need you to listen to me".
Momo nods and looks at her expectantly.
"I'm going to need us to move to that tree" she says pointing to the huge tree that by this time has not a single leaf or flower.
Once they are under the tree sitting on a small wooden bench while holding hands looking into each other's eyes, the youngest takes a breath and begins her speech.
"This isn't as cute as I had originally envisioned in my mind, but this is a sakura tree" she says gesturing awkwardly as if she is introducing the tree as the other looks at her in confusion. "I don't know if you remember" she takes a deep breath trying to calm her nerves so her voice doesn't sound so shaky. "But when things started to get serious between us, when I was afraid to let you into my life and Dahyun's, you told me that when you looked at the two of us you felt the same as when you saw the sakura blooming in the spring when you had only been here in Korea for a short time because they made you feel at home. I feel something like that too. When I think of you I think of family and when I think of family Dahyun's face is not the only one I see, I see you too." She thinks about her words for a bit and adds "It's not like I didn't see you as part of my family before, but today when Dahyun started calling you 'mom' I felt like everything was finally in place.... W-what I want to say is that I want you to be our Dubu's mom, I want to say that you are my daughter's mom when people ask me and I also want to say that you are my wife" she finishes saying with bright eyes full of tears while looking at Momo in expectation.
Momo also has some tears in the corners of her eyes and can barely articulate any words for a moment until she finally says "Minari, are you asking me to marry you?" she asks with a smile from ear to ear.
"Yes, s-sorry I forgot the most important thing" she stutters nervously searching for the ring in the pockets of the huge jacket until she finally pulls out a small velvet box and opens it before her eyes "I wanted to wait for the sakuras bloom season, but I couldn't wait any longer and when she asked if she could call you mom-" she starts to ramble as she does when she gets nervous.
They have been together for two years and ten months. It still happens to her at times like this. It still happens to her just like it did during the dozens of encounters they had until Momo understood that her best customer might be interested in more than just the Japanese food she missed so much and finally asked her if she would like to meet outside her restaurant. Mina hates that she still makes her stutter sometimes and for Momo it is one of her favorite things in the world to know that despite the time they’ve been together she still has the same effect on Mina.
Suddenly she feels Momo's lips crashing against hers in an clumsy and rushed kiss, but full of emotions. Their arms are wrapped around each other's body and they can feel their cheeks wet with tears as the older one pulls away and softly says "Yes!".
"Let me ask you the question!" she whines. "Hirai Momo, will you marry me?" she finally asks, resting one knee to the ground and all.
"Yes. I will marry you, Myoui Mina" she says laughing at the use of her full name.
Momo smiles as she sees her with one knee on the ground giving her the ring, a scene she thought she would never experience like so many other things when she discovered she liked girls in her last year of high school. Now she has the most beautiful woman in the world saying she wants her to be a mother and a wife, asking her once again to make a family together. They are already family and they both know that the ring doesn't change anything because they have been a family since the moment Mina decided to introduce Momo as her girlfriend in front of her friends and then her daughter, when Dahyun started treating Dobby and Boo like her own dogs, when Momo offered to pick up her daughter from school when Mina couldn't, when Mina asked her if she would like to live with her and Dahyun, when Momo started calling the little girl Dubu and started reading her bedtime stories or just a few hours ago when Dahyun asked her if she could call her mom.
"I'm sorry but Nayeon and Sana's rings are going to have to go to the other hand", Mina teases her being now more relaxed, taking her out of her thoughts while she takes her hand and starts to put the ring on it.
It is a thin, simple, white gold ring decorated with three diamonds, while she puts the engagement ring on her finger she explains that since she prefers simple rings she thought it would probably be better to have a few small diamonds than one big one and that she liked the idea of three diamonds because they are three. This time she explains it more calmly, as if she isn't feeling her heart pounding in her chest and ears at full speed.
"I love you" says Momo, this time in her mother tongue.
"I love you, Momoring".
It's been spontaneous, no picnic in the spring watching the sakuras bloom and no dinner at the nice restaurant she saw when they passed through the nearby village and the speech she's been preparing for a month was forgotten as soon as she saw how Momo cared about her when she thought something bad had happened, but Mina couldn't care less. Momo has said yes to continue having a life together now with the promise of forever and that's all she needs.
It's cold and the first snowflakes are starting to fall from what looks like it will be the first snow of the year. Neither of them move, enjoying a little alone time before going back inside the house. The two cuddle and kiss, some of those kisses are short pecks on the lips and some turn into heated kisses that leave them breathless. When Mina's freezing hands sneak under several layers of clothing to caress the skin of Momo's stomach under her shirt sending a shiver throughout her body they go back inside.
When they come back they all know, even though all she asked Jeongyeon to do was to keep an eye on Dahyun and keep her mouth shut. You can't really blame her, the time they were there for them felt like an instant but it was really over forty five minutes of listening to Nayeon and Jihyo listing every moment they had told her some secret or gossip since they have known each other while Sana was about to have a breakdown thinking they were arguing and thinking about what she would do if they made her pick a side. All this while her social battery was at a minimum, so she ended up confessing everything and even shared some parts of the speech Mina had texted her asking if it was too cheesy.
As soon as she enters the door all eyes turn to Momo's hand and before Nayeon, Sana and Jihyo start to scream, Jihyo shuts Sana's mouth with her hand and Jeongyeon covers Nayeon and Jihyo's mouths. Mina and Momo are a blushing mess trying to hide in each other's neck while Jeongyeon apologizes for announcing it before them, knowing that they would have preferred to say it one by one to avoid this.
The three of them start asking them a million questions and start planning their wedding. Then Sana whines about not being the first to know but it doesn't last long because they all agree that she would have been so happy that she would have told the others and maybe even Momo herself if Mina had told her about her plans. After a while Jihyo shows up with more soju and even a bottle of champagne she had prepared in case they stayed to celebrate New Year's Eve, but the occasion is worth it. And if there's one thing Jihyo doesn't mess around with, it's alcohol, so you can trust that it's some good, expensive champagne.
They all toast to Momo and Mina's engagement with champagne except for Jeongyeon who raises her cup of tea, no one is shocked because since she started the artificial insemination treatments she has not been drinking for months, but they all need to know as soon as possible if she is finally pregnant because they really need to get used to the idea that Nayeon is going to keep drinking for the two of them at every celebration. Nayeon is not a bad drinker, but when she is drunk she can’t stay still for a second, she even becomes more giggly and hits the arm of anyone next to her. Jihyo and Jeongyeon tell that sometimes during their college outings they would wake up with bruises on their arms.
When they decide it's way too late and they have to place all the presents under the tree, the only one who is drunk – thankfully – is Nayeon. Momo and Sana have a slight blush on their cheeks while Jihyo has drunk twice as much as Nayeon and is doing better than Mina who has only had a glass of champagne because it is her own engagement, but is still a bit dizzy from today's emotions.
It doesn't take them long to place the gifts despite Nayeon's interruptions and her and Sana's giggles threatening to wake up the girls. Luckily, Jeongyeon and Momo go a couple of times to check that they are sound asleep when they hear a soft snore from one of them.
They all say their good nights among smiles and laughter, feeling as excited as their daughters to open the presents as a family. Each couple disappears into their respective rooms and the moment they lay their heads on the pillow, they all fall asleep instantly. It has been an intense day and the best is yet to come.
The next morning they are all woken up at 7 am one by one by the three girls who only scream "CHRISTMAS", "SANTA" and "PRESENTS". The strategy they follow is the same, Dahyun and Chaeyoung come in screaming and jumping on top of the adults shaking them followed by Tzuyu who is less shy around them but not enough to assault the adults like her friends do, so she just carefully tugs at their pajama sleeves while the others do the rest of the work. When they arrive at Nayeon and Jeongyeon's room things are different and Chaeyoung instructs the attack to be directed only at Nayeon because she has told her that she has to be careful with her mama.
The older ones have only had a couple of hours of sleep and some have a slight headache, but they make their way to the tree at about the same speed as their daughters until all nine are seated around the tree. Nayeon takes pictures with her camera while Momo has her cell phone in one hand and a video camera in the other with the intention of recording at least the highlights. Each time she checks that the camera settings are correct she can't help but smile at the sight of the new ring that now decorates her hand.
Finally it's time to open the presents.
Dahyun receives a small digital piano that is halfway between a toy and a real one for starters with a microphone, lately she is in her singer and rapper phase. Momo and Mina know that in a few days they might regret giving her not one but two things that make noise. They also know that they will end up dancing and singing with her or that they will enjoy the small recitals that their little Dubu organizes at home. Another surprise they have prepared is for her to start piano lessons, but first they have to make sure that she knows they would be real piano lessons and that it is not like when she plays her toy piano keyboard at home. They also give her some books from her favorite collection and of course, chocolate.
Chaeyoung, like every Christmas, birthday or any other special occasion, receives paints, sketch pads, watercolors, pencils and other art supplies that are of better quality as she gets older. The little girl always gets excited as if it were the first time she gets them as a gift because in a month half of the things are already used up and her mothers no longer knows where to keep so many drawings. The last gift she opens, however, is something that makes her even more excited and that is a toy set to make temporary tattoos with markers. Since she was a toddler, she has had the habit of painting all over her arms and legs even before she could speak, and now there is not a day that goes by that she doesn't come home with a drawing in one hand and a note from her teacher in the other. When Nayeon saw the advertisement for the toy while she was on her phone, she ordered it online and it has been hidden in a corner of her house since summer.
Both Chaeyoung and Dahyun have among their gifts a package of a different color than the rest, Dahyun insists that Santa Claus knows they are bros and that's why he always gives them something that matches. The truth is that it's Jihyo and Sana who always get their nieces something special, since they didn't have a child to buy presents for until now. The fact that this year Tzuyu has come into their lives is not going to change this little tradition. This time Dahyun receives a stuffed eagle and Chaeyoung a tiger, their favorite animals. The choice of the oldest is surprising and even more surprising is that the couple found a cute stuffed animal of an eagle.
As for the new member of the family, she has been receiving gifts from her mothers ever since she arrived at her new home. Most of them such as clothes, school supplies, books and toys were just things that a 7-year-old girl needs at home, but Sana and Jihyo are still in the excitement of being new mothers so it is likely that she has been spoiled a little too much. After asking their friends for advice, they decided it was best to give her a few meaningful gifts rather than showering her with presents as they originally planned.
They didn't count on the fact that Tzuyu, given where she came from and with her background, is not the type of kid who asks for things, instead if she likes something you can see it on her face and maybe she mentions it because it has genuinely caught her attention and not because she is asking for it in a subtle way. They are both very happy to have such a good little girl and know that anything will be welcomed with sincere joy as they have seen so far, however it has made the job of being Santa difficult for them. Luckily, since they discovered Tzuyu's passion for dogs, it was clear to them what the perfect gift would be. A dog, this was the perfect gift, except that they had their doubts about it. After much discussion and thinking about it, Jihyo and Sana agreed that they didn't want to be the kind of mothers who give a dog as it was a toy for Christmas, especially after listening to Jeongyeon talking about how many dogs arrive at the shelter a few months after Christmas when they are no longer adorable puppies.
Tzuyu for the first time receives presents that are actually for her and not generic toys donated to the orphanage. On her first Christmas with her new family Tzuyu opens a package bigger than her and almost the size of Jihyo, it is a life-size golden retriever stuffed dog that makes Tzuyu cry instantly. As soon as the stuffed dog is free from the wrapping paper the little girl hugs it tightly and goes to her mothers and hugs both of them.
"Thank you mommy Sana, thank you mommy Ji" she says sobbing making her mothers also cry with her.
"You don't have to thank us Tzu" says Sana as Jihyo picks up her and the huge stuffed dog in her arms. "Santa got it for you because you've been such a good girl".
"All we did was tell Santa that you changed your address" Jihyo adds and kisses her on the head.
There are still two gifts to be opened, one of them an illustrated book about dogs and then a letter that her mommy Ji has to read to her. It is an invitation to visit the shelter and help the dogs living there. At the bottom of the invitation are a pair of paw prints of different dogs for which Sana and Jihyo are very grateful to Jeongyeon who has also offered to be the one to accompany them to the shelter where she started volunteering and where she now works as a veterinarian.
The other two children don't quite know what is going on, so they clap their hands when their mothers assure them that they are crying from happiness and not sadness. They themselves try to hold back their tears and in Nayeon's case hide them by covering themselves with the camera as she captures the emotional moment.
The next picture they take is one of the girls holding their stuffed animals. Dahyun poses like a rapper, Chaeyoun still doesn't know how to smile in photos and next to her Tzuyu stares at the camera with her eyes a little too wide. They take a total of thirty photos of them and they all agree that it's best to save those photos for posterity and not for social media. Luckily, the girls come out much better when they get their pictures taken while playing and Nayeon keeps saying that she can wait to develop the two rolls of film she has already spent since they arrived the day before.
After the photos it's time for the older ones to open the gifts and as with the card game the task of telling who is more mature is difficult. Of course, Nayeon turns it into another rock-paper-scissors competition to choose the order and Jihyo accepts so the others are dragged into the game. The oldest loses and in addition to enduring her wounded pride, Nayeon will have to wait until the end to receive the gift.
Contrary to other years when they have played secret friend, they have preferred to take the easy way and the gifts are only between the couples with the only condition that they are not allowed to give each other inappropriate gifts in front of the children. A rule especially addressed to Sana who on all Jihyo's birthdays gives her a lingerie set which is actually for herself and which Jihyo accepts with too much enthusiasm in front of all of them.
Sana gives Jihyo a designer leather jacket, a bottle of a really expensive soju that Jihyo loves with some glasses with a nice and elegant design to match the bottle. "I'll give you your other gift later in the room" Sana whispers in her ear before giving her a kiss.
Nayeon gifts Jeongyeon a fancy watch and a letter which she asks her to read another time and is quite insistent that she doesn't read it in front of the others.
Mina tells Momo that her gift was given to her in the evening, but she has a small present. In the package there is a t-shirt with a drawing of the family done by Dahyun, there are a total of five t-shirts and Momo for a moment freaks out at the sight of two small t-shirts until Mina tells her that they are for Boo and Dobby making everyone laugh at Momo's momentary panic.
In between laughter, there is a loud sob and suddenly they all realize that Jeongyeon is crying her eyes out as she reads the letter. "Jeong! I told you not to read it!" says Nayeon in between laughing and crying as he wraps her arms around her wife and whispers "Well it's already in the letter, I love you baby." At another time her friends would have teased them, but Jeongyeon seems to be truly touched so they leave the couple a moment and continue.
Mina is next and receives a LEGO set that Momo has caught her looking up more than once when they go to the mall and a Nintendo Switch game, as well as a simple necklace adorned with three hearts. Mina loves it all and Momo is still surprised that jewelry always ends up being the gift that costs her the least money and effort.
Sana is confused when she receives an envelope from Jihyo because she has always been very thoughtful with gifts and usually gets her a seasonal branded bag among other things. What she sees in the envelope, however, makes her scream in excitement more than any bag when she sees the tickets to go to Japan with theirs and Tzuyu's names on it. "Let's go see your parents next week, so they can finally meet their granddaughter," Jihyo says before she has to look up the details on the tickets herself.
Last of all is Nayeon. Finally her turn comes and she can't stop jumping up and down with excitement when she sees the box that Jeongyeon hands her. She tears the wrapping paper excitedly and when she opens the box and sees what's inside, her smile disappears.
"Seriously Yoo Jeongyeon" she sighs, looking at her seriously.
The others just stay quiet not sure how to react because Nayeon seems really annoyed so they just watch the exchange between the couple. Then she takes out what's in the box and they all burst out laughing when they see a t-shirt that reads 'World's #1 Dad' on it.
It's a good joke and it's nothing that's unusual for the couple. They love bickering and teasing each other as much as they love giving each other kisses and whispering sweet nothings. This time it looks like Nayeon is not having it.
"I hope you have something better hidden, I spent days looking for the perfect watch" she whines and at that moment everyone sees the usual Nayeon again and the mood of the room instantly lightens up.
Jeongyeon also looks serious but it is obvious that she is holding in laughter when she says "I think I should have gotten you new glasses, haven't you seen what else is in the box?".
Her wife rolls her eyes and looks in the box again, not very convinced that there is anything in there, thinking it is still just part of Jeong's joke. You never know with these two. Once Nayeon gave her fifteen boxes tucked inside each other for their anniversary in college, though then he gave her something that kept them busy for several days locked in the room. One of the best gifts she ever gave her, unless you ask Jihyo who at the time was sleeping in the room next door. To this day, the youngest of the three has not wanted to know what that gift was, but today she is dying of curiosity, just like the others.
"OH MY GOD JEONGYEON!" She screams at the top of her lungs, making her friends jump in their seats and catching the attention of the girls who have been busy with their new gifts for a while now. "If this is a joke I swear-" she says trying to sound tough as she starts bawling her eyes out.
"I'm serious," Jeongyeon says in a whisper, taking the paper Nayeon is holding in her hands and showing her friends the ultrasound.  "We're going to be mommies again" she says with a huge smile.
It takes a few seconds for everyone to react and all of a sudden everyone starts to congratulate them while the oldest one complains to her wife that she didn't tell her, even more so when she finds out that she is almost three months pregnant and that they are expecting twins. Neither of them can believe that Jeongyeon made it on the first try and they couldn't be happier, especially with Chaeyoung's reaction. The little girl stares at them with wide eyes and when they confirm that she will be the big sister to two babies, her eyes glaze over and she climbs onto her mom's lap to hug them and caress her mama's belly.
"This is a better gift than the tattoo machine" she says, still pouting.
All these emotions seem to have made them hungry and they soon gather at the small table, which is now more crowded with the girls' stuffed animals. In the middle of the table they have a mountain of cookies that they didn't finish yesterday and there is also hot chocolate, tea, coffee and milkshakes. The Myoui-Hirai family is wearing their t-shirts. Sana and Jihyo tell Tzuyu about Japan, tell her about the food and let her know that she will meet more new people, this time it will be her grandparents. Jeongyeon is still forced to listen to her wife scolding her for not telling her earlier that she is pregnant and lists one by one the things that could have happened until Jeong admits that she was afraid something would go wrong and Nayeon's gaze softens.  After that she promises her that now that they're both in it, everything will be okay because they have each other and because they have this wonderful family they've chosen.

Queens au: Dahmo fam visiting the kingdom and when they passed by Saya and Saki training it reminded Momo when she and Sana were sparring (Sana and Mina were with them) so Momo challenge Mina to spar since Sana was pregnant, Mina wasn't confident at first because she doesn't want to hurt Momo (but what she didn't know was Momo is stronger than Sana) so she got humiliated by the twins (Sana purposely didn't said that Momo was better at her in sword fighting)
sorry this took so long! you know i never realized i technically contradicted myself when creating this au on what dahmo’s kids are so i’m going to clarify that the three of them are all human, but can use magic!
“It’s nice to be back.” Momo smiled as she looked around the gardens. It had been forever since she had made it out to the palace, she was always worried someone would recognize her and make a scene. Or worse, would make a scene about Dahyun or the kids. Momo tended to avoid the general public when she could. Her and Dahyun were content living remotely, but the kids weren’t as keen on it. Momo had been content with home school, she had been homeschooled growing up and she was fine, but the kids begged for interaction with people that weren't each other. They ended up settling for sending the kids to a nearby small school under the guise of them pretending to be elves. Thankfully Dahyun had been able to teach them magic that resembled starfire elves. They dealt with the pointy ears using an illusion spell from Dahyun’s home country. It didn’t stop Momo from worrying about them constantly.
“It’s been a while since you’ve been here.” Sana smiled, taking a deep breath now that they were outside. Momo’s kids had practically tackled Sae when they found her, and the adults found it adorable. The kids admittingly didn’t get much time together When Sana would make the trip out to visit, it was usually just her. It was safer for everyone that way. Sana already attracted enough attention, the princesses would just pull even more. However, it did cause a bit of a rift between Momo and Sana’s children, a fact which made both of them a little sad. Having grown up as each other’s best friends, they had wanted their kids to have a good relationship. And while they got along when they were together, there was definitely a clear divide between them.
That’s why Sana had practically begged Momo to come visit the palace. Momo had avoided even coming close to the royal city, not wanting anyone to recognize the estranged princess. She knew Dahyun was even more nervous, illusion magic wasn’t always perfect and Dahyun was worried people would see right through her. Thankfully though, Sana and Mina had been able to find them a way to basically sneak in. And while Mina was a little stressed about thinning out the palace security, she also knew Sana had wanted them all to be allowed to move around freely. “Is that new?” Momo asked, pointing to the gazebo next to the koi pond.
“Oh yeah, we intended for it to be a nice place to eat outside, but the girls turned it into their personal sparring ring.” Sana giggled as she heard the sound of yelling coming from the gazebo’s direction. “Yup, I knew they would be out here.” “I told them to wait in the library with Sae.” Mina grumbled.
“What kind of sparring?” Momo asked, winding her arm with Dahyun’s as they walked. Dahyun looked to be in awe with the scope of the garden, and Momo was holding herself back from giggling at the amazement on Dahyun’s face.
“Sword fighting.” Mina grumbled.
“Don’t grumble like that darling.” Sana giggled at her wife, playfully massaging Mina’s shoulders. “Mina’s just annoyed they never listen.” “Sounds familiar.” Momo giggled as the girls came into view, both dressed in leather training pads and swinging their wooden swords around. “That definitely takes me back.” Momo giggled. “We used to be the same way.” Sana giggled as her daughter’s pretended like they weren’t even there. “Saki stop that!” Saya groaned as her sister used her free hand to poke her exposed side after the took a swing. “Stop what?” Saki giggled.
“That’s not proper technique!” Saya groaned, swinging her sword in a powerful through, that Saki ducked to avoid. Saki, being the smaller of the two, used it to her advantage and used the small opening to rush her sister, swinging her sword into the side of the pads covering Saya’s ribcage. “One more point for me.” “I let you have that.” Saya groaned. “Auntie Momo! Auntie Dahyun!” Saki interrupted Saya when she noticed their audience. “Hey kiddo.” Momo waved.
“Hi Saki.” Dahyun grinned. “It’s time to wrap it up girls, we have a lunch to get to.” “Ten more minutes.” Saya argued. “Please.”
“Saya.” Mina sighed.
“Aww let the girls play.” Momo giggled. “I don’t mind. Do you Hyun?” “Of course not. It’s really cool to see Starsia’s sword fighting technique. It’s really unique.” Dahyun nodded.
“God watching this makes me remember when we were kids.” Momo giggled. “Sana and I used to go at it constantly.” “Really?” Dahyun asked. “I thought you guys got along?” “I wouldn’t say that we didn’t.” Sana giggled. “We always settled our arguments really quickly, with violence.” “So that’s where the kids get it from.” Mina grumbled.
“Our mother hated it too.” Momo laughed. “Our dad though, we would get all ‘Momo you can hit harder than that?’ Or ‘Sana are you really going to take that?’” “Dad definitely encouraged the habit.” Sana giggled as Saya got a point on her sister. “That hurt.” Saki whined, putting her sword down and going to massage the part of her arm Saya had hit.
“I didn’t hit you that hard.” Saya rolled her eyes. “You're wearing padding.” “Let me see baby.” Sana offered, holding her arms out for Saki. Saki ran over and Sana got to work untying the various pads from Saki. “Let me see that sword Saya.” Momo asked.
“Sure.” Saya nodded, handing the wooden sword over.
“Wow, I wouldn’t have taken you for a rapier kind of girl.” Momo commented. “It’s mommy’s sword!” Saki gleefully commented as Sana gave her a little kiss on the forehead.
“ Sana has always been a fan of Rapiers.” Momo nodded. “Do you use the same Saki?” Saki nodded eagerly .
“What do you mean Aunt Momo?” “I don’t know, with your style of fighting I just thought you would go for something a little heavier like a falchion.”
“I haven’t really tried anything other than mom’s sword.” Saya shrugged.
“Ah, I see Sana corrupted you.” Momo giggled. “I use a falchion, if you want to try it.” Saya’s eyes lit up at the suggestion, quickly looking at her parents.
“I’m okay with it.” Sana nodded.
“I would prefer it if it was wooden.” Mina nodded.
“Please.” Saya begged. “Pretty please?” “Your Mama’s probably right Saya, you should probably start with a wooden one first. It’s not easy to switch swords.” Momo shrugged.
“Mama never lets me use real swords.”
“You're too young.” Mina argued. “You already bruise yourself up enough with the wooden swords. “I’m fine.” Saya groaned.
“How about we make a deal Saya, after lunch I’ll let you play with a wooden replica of my sword, instead of your mom’s. If you like it, I’ll let you try the real thing for your birthday next year. Not on people though, just training dummies.” Momo offered.
“You would let me do that?” Saya asked, her eyes wide with excitement. “If your parents are okay with it.” Momo looked towards Mina, who seemed a little apprehensive. “Please please please. I’ll clean my room everyday for a month. I’ll do all my chores.” Saya begged. “Okay okay.” Mina sighed. “But you have to promise you won’t use it on real people.” “Yay!” Saya smiled, hugging Momo. “Mommy, what’s the difference between your sword and Auntie Momo’s?” Saki asked as her mom finally removed the large amount of padding Mina made them where.
“My sword, a rapier, is lighter weight and longer than Auntie Momo’s.” “My sword hits a lot harder than her’s.” Momo added.
“So which is better?” Saya asked.
“Neither is particularly better, it just depends on who’s using it.” Sana informed, inspecting Saki’s arm from where she had gotten hit.
“Can we watch you fight?” Saya asked excitedly. “I want to see the different types.” “I would be down-”
“Absolutely not.” Mina argued, cutting in the middle of the discussion. “Baby, you're pregnant.” “I’ll be fine. Momo knows what she’s doing.” “I promise not to hit her too hard Mina.” Momo grinned.
“No.” Mina nodded.
“I want to see mama.” Saya whined. “Please, we never see anything fun.” “I would beg to differ.” Mina nodded. “I want to see.” Saki spoke up. “I didn’t know there were different types of swords.” “Oh Sana, you've really brainwashed them.” Momo laughed.
“Rapiers are inherently the better sword. They are easier to hold and a falchion only has one blade. They teach the art of sword fighting better.” “I would beg to differ.” Momo argued. “That blade of yours is flimsy and dull. It lacks power.” “Okay then I’ll prove it to you-”
“Baby no.” Mina sighed. “You or the little one could get hurt.”
“But she’s insulting my sword's honor.” Sana whined. “I can’t just take that.” Sana looked into Mina’s eyes with the softest pout on her face. “Fine.” Mina groaned. “But you're not fighting, I’ll fight for you.” “Ohh my knight in shining armor.” Sana giggled and kissed Mina’s cheek. “Are you sure you want to take her?” “You said she’s out of practice.” Mina shrugged, picking up Saki’s wooden sword. It was much lighter than she was used to, and long. Mina had always practiced with short swords and knives, so the length of longer swords always threw her for a bit of a loop. “Should be easy.” “Oh now you’ve done it Myoui.” Momo grumbled, drawing her own sword.
“You want to use the real thing?” Mina asked in surprise.
“Don’t have a wooden version on hand at the moment.” Momo shrugged. “What, are you scared?” “Shut up.” Mina groaned. “Baby, sword?” Sana nodded, drawing her own sword and handing it to Mina. Sana moved herself and Saki away from the two as they moved toward the center of the gazebo.
“Sorry Momo got all riled up.” Dahyun giggled once Sana was safely next to her.
“Oh it’s okay.” Sana giggled. “Mina’s ego has been getting a little big lately, this will be good for her.” “Wow, I never would have thought you would be rooting against your own wife.” “I’m not, but I know this will be over in like five minutes.” Sana smiled. “Mina’s a good fighter, there’s a reason she’s the head of military. When it comes to hunting, hand to hand combat, assassination techniques, and weapon variation Mina has all of us outclassed. But when it comes to swords, I’ve never met anyone who can beat Momo.” “You were talking big game earlier, if you knew Momo couldn’t be beaten.” Dahyun giggled.
“As I said, my wife’s ego needs to come down soon.” Sana giggled. “You saw how confidently she took my sword. Mina sucks with swords, especially longer ones. She shouldn’t be getting so cocky.” Sana shrugged. “So you planned all of this?” Dahyun giggled. “Don’t tell Mina.” Sana smiled. Mina bowed respectfully to Momo, her opponent quickly returning the gesture. They both started in their neutral position, Mina internally reminding herself to hold back a little bit. She didn’t want to scar the kids. Maybe she could use the back of Sana’s blade.
Momo didn’t give her a moment to think once Saki had called go. She was instantly charging at Mina, her sword coming down even quicker. Mina barely had any time to react before Momo’s blade was coming towards her head. She quickly parried, barely able to hold back against Momo’s strength. Momo just gave her a little smirk in response.
Mina could feel the anger boiling within her and the smirk. She moved to make an attack of her own, but not five seconds later, the match was over.
“Sorry Myoui.” Momo giggled, hovering her sword right next to Mina’s unprotected side. “I can tell you're used to fighting with both hands.” Momo pointed to Mina’s opposite hand, which had moved a couple inches from Momo’s sword. “You might have blocked me if there was something in that hand.” Mina quickly moved her hand at the implication. “Go Auntie Momo!” Saya cheered. Momo just smiled at Saya, sheathing her sword as Mina stood there in disbelief. Momo had moved way faster than Mina took her for, and the amount of power she carried was no joke. “You did good, baby,” Sana giggled as she came over to Mina and rubbed her back, gently taking her own sword back. “Believe it or not, you did better than most people against Momo. Most people don’t make it past her first swing.” “I-” Mina was at a loss for words. She thought Sana was good at sword fighting, but Sana had never beaten her that quickly. It caused a flush to fill her cheeks.
“It was a good effort baby.” Sana smiled. “Now come on, it’s time for lunch.” Needless to say, Mina was pouty throughout the entire meal. Sana only giggled when Saya and Saki dramatically recalled their mama’s fight to the other kids. She noticed how Mina sunk into her chair a little bit more.
“I can teach you how to use a rapier, you know.” Sana giggled as they were getting ready for bed. “I’ve never beaten Momo, but considering your experience you might be our best shot.”
“I know how to use a sword.” “Every sword is a little different.” Sana nodded. “How about next time you challenge my sister, you challenge her with a weapon you're actually familiar with.”
“Fine you win.” Mina whined as Sana showered her face with kisses.
Even if the loss was humiliating, Mina loved that her wife always kept her on her toes.

‘come on, y/n, we’re not gonna see one, let’s just go home,’ dahyun whined, stretching her legs once again as you entered your ninth hour of watching for a dragonite. you had convinced dahyun to come to the coast with you for a weekend on the promise of swimming, picnics and relaxing on the beach.
you had yet to deliver on any of those things, and dahyun was getting a little impatient, reminding you of the conditions on which she had agreed to join you every few minutes. she was constantly shuffling beside you, which you tried to discourage out of fear that it would make you more conspicuous.
once she had given up on the day, she began to scroll through her phone, head resting on your shoulder as you kept your eyes fixed on the shore.
you tried to keep still as you spotted movement over the horizon, not wanting to get your hopes up too soon. you gently shook dahyun as you saw the silhouette of the pokemon you had been sitting waiting for emerge from the water. she sat up suddenly, looking out towards the sea and squealed, excited to finally be leaving.
you winced as soon as the sound left her lips, checking back on the pokemon only to see it begin to retreat. you turned back towards dahyun, who was mouthing what you assumed was an apology having learned her lesson about the noise.

“nakuha ko ung role!” sana said with excitement, smiling.
“i’m so proud of you, baby!!” dahyun replied.
“pero, as time went on, di ko na pinapansin.”
“baby—“
“dahyun, pasensya na, pero; may ginagawa po kasi ako eh.”
“lagi kasi akong may ginagawa.”
“love. kailangan kita kausapin-“
“diba, nakikita mo naman na may ginagawa ako, ha? wag mo na ‘ko guluhin. dahyun, please.”
“di ‘ko nakita na, sinasaktan ko pala sya.”
“hangga’t sinabi niya,”
“sana, di mo na ‘ko niraramdaman. mahalaga pa-pa ba ako sayo? ba’t parang, di ko na maramdaman ung pagmamahal mo sa’kin?”
“kung pwede,”
“dahyun, lets fix this. please.”
“gusto kong bumalik sa nakaraan,”
“para ayusin ko ang lahat na nangyari.”
“baby, love, kung ano-anong nickname na binibigay niya saakin.”
“sa susunod na habang buhay namin, sana maririnig ko nanaman.”

Dahyun x M/F Reader - "Die With A Smile"
Tumblr media
NOTE: This story is inspired from the recently released song a week ago featuring a collab between two of tgreatest artists ever, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga titled "Die With A Smile", just like the name of this story. Everything also that you're about to read are loosely based from one of the horror films I've watched and I thought about it as another fitting music video for this song if it features a storyline. So yeah, try to listen along while you imagine the story inside your head.
WARNING: Contains violence, expect gore and blood.

Tumblr media
(Ooh, ooh)
I, I just woke up from a dream Where you and I had to say goodbye And I don't know what it all means But since I survived, I realized
At the beginning of the song, a vivid image of hands separating from each other's grasp amidst the white foggy surrounding can be seen. The girl, revealed to be Dahyun, looks at you regretfully and heartbrokenly. She slowly lowers her hand just as her distance shrank.
You abruptly woke up from your bed, catching your breath. You rubbed your hair and face, groaning in reaction after having your precious sleep disrupted by that nightmare. The acoustic guitar from the intro is accompanied with soft "oohs" from Bruno Mars' sweet adlibs.
The next scene was you being alone in the dressing room, checking yourself out on the mirror with the exquisite tuxedo suit you got after what the tailor had made for the special occasion of your life. While straightening the fabric and the necktie wrapped around you, your face showed discomfort and fear after recalling those bothersome glimpses of the nightmare you had last night.
It was weird. Why did you have this a vision of seeing your woman, Dahyun, letting go and bidding goodbye to you? It's one of the worst things you wouldn't want to happen to you ever, especially since you and her are just about to embark into the next chapter of your love story together today.
You just shook your head to get rid of that ridiculous and unpleasant thought. It is better to remain focused on what's about to come today and only hope for the best, as you and her truly deserve it, just like every other wedding couple should. Calming yourself with a broad grin, you looked at the reflection of yourself in the mirror one more time before walking away.
Wherever you go, that's where I'll follow Nobody's promised tomorrow So I'ma love you every night like it's the last night Like it's the last night
On the pre-chorus, the scene shifts to the wedding currently being processed. The chapel was packed with lots of visitors. The priest was standing in front of the altar along with you, the bridesmaid, and your best man. Everyone present was looking at the door opening, revealing the bright lights from outside behind the figure of your lovely bride, Dahyun, in her breathtaking wedding dress and face covered in a white veil.
The next was you and her standing face-to-face in front of the altar. You kept on watching and listening to Dahyun give her oath for you, made from the words in heaven. Remembering what you just experienced a while ago before the wedding started may have gotten you curious about what it might mean, but you are certain that you'll do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening.
Adding another promise within your heart, mind, and soul, along with the oath you've taken before her, you swore that you'd be there by her side always.
The scene then cuts to the reception, where the visitors are now celebrating you and Dahyun being newlyweds. The married couple talked happily with your parents when suddenly the party was interrupted by a scream from one of the guests.
Your heads are directed to where it came from, and to your shock, one of your family's close-friend who is a veterinarian and an elderly guest of yours has his body now hanging dangerously on the terrace before he completely slips down, sending him down and crashing on the ground, which made everybody yell in surprise.
As the wife of the man who fell from the second floor came in a hurry to check on his condition, the man suddenly rose from the ground and pulled his wife closer. Everybody shouted in horror when the man started to bite his wife on the neck, which caused all of the guests to get back away from the strange couple. The beats of the drum at the end of the pre-chorus coincides with the shot of the man biting the bloody, torn skin and creepily staring at everyone who is looking back at him.
If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you If the party was over And our time on Earth was through I'd wanna hold you just for a while And die with a smile If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you
As the chorus began to play, everyone started running for their lives, which caused a stampede, which panickedly made you and Dahyun separate from each other. Both of you scream for each other's names in the middle of the chaos ensuing in the room. You ended up in the kitchen along with your cousin, Dahyun's sister, and the photographer for your wedding. Some of the guests who turned out to be looking infected with rabid behavior were located at the door.
The square glass in the middle of it got shattered, and Mr. and Mrs.'s hands started to sprawl out. You found a vent to hide in and intended to make everybody get in there before the door opened. After successfully entering the vent, you wondered why the photographer hadn't joined yet. Despite your panic, the photographer instead commanded the three of you to keep moving forward, as he confirmed that he couldn't fit inside the vent due to his size and that he'd be the one to block the infected off.
Appreciating his sacrifice, all three heads went on to escape. The three ended up outside and found a police car parked. Your cousin led the inspection, and it turns out there was a deceased policeman inside the driver's seat. While he did a closer look, the policeman suddenly sprung up and bit your cousin on the cheek, leaving you no choice but to cry in pity for your cousin and leave him there as Dahyun's sister forces you to continue escaping.
Through the final lines of the chorus, you and Dahyun's sister came to a halt when you heard Dahyun's voice speak over the speakers. The utmost joy and relief he felt after she ensured that she's currently fine was replaced quickly by surprise when Dahyun additionally announced that she's pregnant and she needs him right now as soon as possible. You proceeded to search for her afterwards.
(Ooh, ooh) Ooh, lost, lost in the words that we scream I don't even wanna do this anymore 'Cause you already know what you mean to me And our love's the only war worth fighting for
In the second verse, the scene then presents Dahyun on the other side of the story, being joined by the priest, her bridesmaid, and one of her closest friends. They hide in a surveillance room. As they discuss their plans, some of the infected guests arrive and see them through the glass panel on the wall.
They hurriedly left the room and were successful, unlike the priest, who had his coat caught by the hands of the infected. He hastily took it off from his body, but the force of the infected pulling the cloth made him slip while attempting to run, resulting in him facing the ground and looking at them frighteningly before he embraced getting eaten out by the infected.
Meanwhile, you arrived at the surveillance room 10 minutes later and discovered the mess that happened in here, and Dahyun is nowhere to be found. Viewing through the monitors, you and Dahyun's sister had a look at what seemed to be a festive and lively celebration transformed into a hellish, gruesome environment. You watched some of the lifeless guests get consumed by the now aggressive infected, and you have no idea how all of this became possible.
Realizing that this must be the dream he had now coming true in real life, you desperately wanted to come and save Dahyun immediately. Back at your wife's situation, Dahyun, her bridesmaid, and her friend stopped through their tracks when they unexpectedly met someone along the way.
Dahyun was distraught, recognizing her mother now being a completely transformed brain-eating cannibal. She stood there frozen, in disbelief at the horrid sight of her mother. It was about to charge at her, but the bridesmaid stepped up to snap Dahyun's senses back, killing the mother with a large branch of a tree.
Dahyun cried and begged for it to stop, but her friend came to comfort her. As the bridesmaid was about to be done, several infected people came towards her, and her distraction caused her to get bitten by them. They ran away, but the infected had their attention stolen when the speakers activated and played a familiar tune. Dahyun's expressed a tearful chuckle hearing their wedding song being played by you back in the room.
Wherever you go, that's where I'll follow Nobody's promised tomorrow So I'ma love you every night like it's the last night Like it's the last night
The second pre-chorus focuses on the scene where Dahyun and her friend locate a storage room in the middle of the woods, where they luckily find a chainsaw and a working TV. They switched it to a channel showing a news report about an ongoing contagious virus spreading through the main cities of South Korea.
Dahyun then learned that the virus was believed to originate from the combined effects of a hazardous chemical and strong signs of leptospirosis in a rat and rabies, which particularly were detected in a cat based on the statements of one of the survivors. Health authorities subsequently received a complaint about a certain veterinary clinic going wild, and the owner is currently being searched.
They found a huge metal lid beside the exterior of the room and opened it just as the infected spotted them on sight. They quickly opened it but had no other time to close it as they became closer. As they reached underground, Dahyun prepared herself by tearing off some of the cloth on the lower portion of her dress to help her move faster.
The drums from the instrumental hit hard and fast, matching the growing intensity as Dahyun and her friends stand on their places while they wait for the infected to descend one by one and launch at them.
If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you If the party was over And our time on Earth was through I'd wanna hold you just for a while And die with a smile If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you
The 2nd chorus plays right during Dahyun and her friend's killing spree through the infected, chainsaw slashing every limb, blood splashing everywhere, and an axe buried deep down through the bones.
Unfortunately, her friend got bitten on the shoulder while struggling to finish another one. As they managed to empty the sewer, Dahyun understood his request and was forced to kill him by slicing his head off with a chainsaw.
Meanwhile, you and her sister grabbed some armors and makeshift swords from of the displays inside the manor before sprinting as both explored across the hallways, avoiding the infected chasing you both along the way. Trying to fight them off with whatever foreign object could be seen, Dahyun's sister attempted to lure away some of the infected chasing behind but was overpowered as she got pulled and bitten.
Devastated, you complied with her subtle request to go after your wife. Dahyun saw a ladder through another lid, dropped her chainsaw due to its weight, and climbed it, but noticed that it was locked. She tries to bump it with all the strength she has, but is unsuccessful. Almost losing hope, you suddenly appeared in front of the lid, unknowingly ending up in the same area as her, much to her surprise.
Both of you said each other's names in delight but were cut short when an infected appeared below Dahyun. You quickly found a way to open the padlock just in time for Dahyun to exit and shut the lid to block the infected.
Right next to you Next to you Right next to you Oh-oh
You and Dahyun exchanged stares and nodded in agreement. You took a few long breaths before removing your body weight to unblock the lid and gripping Dahyun's arm.
The instrumentals played loudly while you and Dahyun made a run for survival out of the estate against the horde of infected chasing your innards. Losing and decreasing some number of them with your defenses, you reached the garden together and continued your moment of rekindling with her, hugging Dahyun tightly.
A time like this will never allow anybody to have their sweetest moment to rest, not until this is all over. Dahyun got alerted at the approaching infected from your back that appeared on the corner of the bushes. She pushed you off and blocked herself with her arm as the infected lunged off for an attack.
She reaches off for your sword and slowly cuts her head off using it. She raises her arm and observed the bite wound she received and instantly demanded you to cut it off right away.
Despite your hesitation and concern, you grabbed your sword and smashed it through her laid arm, causing her to shriek and growl in immense pain.
If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you If the party was over And our time on Earth was through I'd wanna hold you just for a while And die with a smile If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you If the world was ending I'd wanna be next to you
At the final chorus, you and Dahyun have reached the front gate and noticed that all the metal bars are barricaded with plastic barriers. Both were fascinated to see that the authorities had quarantined the area.
As you stopped rotating after finding out where you had been led, what you discovered left you frozen in distress.
Dahyun glances at you with her crinkly lips, bleeding nose, pupils and eyes reddening, and teeth becoming grizzly. Based on the obvious signs of her infection, it means that your attempt to prevent the spreading of the virus across her brain has failed.
You lost any care anymore; she remains important to you just as much as the promise you made for her. Carrying Dahyun's weak and collapsing body in your arms, you walk ahead through the exit as personnel in hazmat suits watch the both of you make your way out.
The soldiers began aiming all their heavy guns at your emergence with your dying wife in your arms. Looking at her with pure affection and no disgust or terror, you shed a teardrop for her and kissed her on the lips.
It lasted for seconds until you felt a stinging pain in your mouth. Your eyes widen as Dahyun rips off your tongue. She stands in front of you, now posing in full infected form with amputated arm, yelling uncontrollably at the soldiers while you voicelessly suffer with your damaged mouth.
The soldiers immediately fire their bullets straight at both you and Dahyun. After they all emptied a half of their mags at your helpless carcasses, you and Dahyun crashed on the ground, front and back first, respectively.
Extending their arms one final time to crawl their fingers through the top of their hands and grab them with the last bit of strength left in their body. You and Dahyun held each other for a while until both finally died with a smile from their multiple wounds.
The song is already finished, and an extra clip features your eyes opening and rising from the bed again, cupping your chest and thumping fast. You stared at your hands, letting out a breath of relief, seeing the engagement ring on your finger.
Looking below to your left, Dahyun is still sleeping heavily beside you. You gratefully smiled at the sight of your fiancée being completely fine.
(Ooh, ooh) I'd wanna be next to you
Laying back down on the bed, you positioned yourself sideways to cuddle your soon to be wife in your arms whilst wrapping her delicate hands onto yours and kiss her crown.
You wished and prayed mentally for God's guidance that you can manage to keep her along with your future child safe and secured like this under your protection after the wedding tomorrow and so on.
Whatever scenario it may occur in the future, not even a virus that can cause an outbreak cannot oppose to the unbreakable love between them.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Yes, it's a sequel to another one-shot featuring Momo from Set 4 titled "The Fight Of Our Lives", it shares the same universe and occurring at the same time as the predecessor. I know you are sharing the same name as your character with Momo, but let's just pretend that you're playing a different one with a same name as you.

PAIRING. Kim Dahyun x Fem!Reader
After a persistent princess tracks you down through meetings with a few of the local village’s herbalists, she has the gall to request your presence, in search of some of your more… magical pursuits. You set up a place and time just so she’ll leave you be, but find yourself waiting for her there out of pure curiosity. (1K)

“You clean up nicer than I expected.”
With that, you set down your mug with a sour grimace, the fresh brew on your tongue going stale as your mood.
Muffled thunder rages overhead, nearly drowned out by a bout of laughter around you. You open your eyes. Take in the sight of dripping lashes, a neat collar around the throat, and squared shoulders— all fine until you notice a flash of silver rings as pale hands rise to adjust the neckline of a shoddy cloak.
“And you hardly know a thing about subtlety,” you snap in retort.
She was practically asking to get caught.
Dahyun gawps, stammering on her words, “Hey- if you must know, subtlety is practically my middle name! It just.. slipped my mind that it was meant to rain tonight, is all…” Her explanation goes flat under your unamused glare, her last sentence coming to a quiet, embarrassed drawl. You imagine her with feathers, all of them fluffing up as she tries to recover, leaning towards you to hiss, “I might’ve fared better if I didn’t have to abandon my horse to travel on foot. This terror hole is nearly impossible to find, it could’ve taken—”
You hold up your hand, stopping the princess dead in her tracks.
“Spare me the even bigger headache and make this quick, please.” You stifle a wince as the chatter in the tavern swells once more, rubbing at your temples. “There are things I have to tend to.”
“Fine. I need a love potion.”
You scowl. “No.”
“I knew you would-” her face drops, “wait, w- what do you mean no?”
You pick up your mug again to drown your laughter in ale. “It means it’s not happening, princess.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Or what? You’ll tell on me?”
Dahyun reaches her hand into her jacket, fear visibly seizing her into motionlessness as a subtle blue aura begins to dance around your fingertips. Your voice lowers considerably. “This isn’t your pretty little castle, sweetheart, no one’ll be answering your cries of distress if you try anything stupid.”
Under the faint haze of torchlight, Dahyun swallows.
Still, she pulls the object out of her coat pocket.
It’s just a scroll.
You ignore her trembling hands as she flattens the page onto the rickety oak in front of you. It's a lengthy thing. Written neatly in inks darker than nights like these. Your eyes skim back and forth.
These… these are papers for her marriage. If she wants them, this means—
Your heart plummets.
The silence on your end must make her anxious, her body practically vibrates as she blurts out, “I know- I know they’re illegal. But I need this.”
You swallow. “For you, or him?”
“Myself.”
You don’t know if that makes it better or worse.
“...Why would you marry someone you don’t love?” you ask, keeping your voice carefully measured. Not overconcerned, but not too careless either.
“If it’ll aid in my favor, I’ll have you know this wasn’t my decision either.”
The way she breaks your stare betrays her casualty about it all, but that doesn’t stop her from shrugging. Her lips purse. Brows furrow.
Like a flash of lightning, the moment is over as quick as it happened. Those dark eyes are back on you again. Her stare resolute. “But… everyone has a part to play.”
Everyone has a part to play.
Where have you heard that from before?
Shaking your head, you stand swiftly, taking your lantern in hand. “I’m sorry, but I’m not risking everything just so that you can live out your happy ending.”
And you leave.
Princess or not, it was silly for her to come to you. Everyone knew love potions were forbidden. Folktales and parables told countless stories about them. How they quickly turned love into obsession. Turned the simplest of men into something cruel. Nearly unfeeling.
Part of you couldn’t deny her courage, you supposed, but another part of you abhorred her presumptuousness. Immediately assuming you’d say yes. Approaching you in the first place. Saying she had an offer you couldn’t refuse. Like hell you couldn’t.
You’re a few feet from the backdoor when you hear her call.
Ignoring her, you step into the rain, letting the door shut behind you. Serves her right for wasting your time on a night like this, where the moon is full and the opportunity for harvest yields higher than usual.
“Wait!”
You're pulled back by your wrist.
“Please, I’ll give you anything you long for! Access back into the town, jewels, herbs, a spot in the castle, however much money it takes-”
You yank your arm away, glaring at her from underneath your hood. “You don’t even know what you’re asking for.”
“I know I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in misery!”
“Don’t we all,” you snark.
“Look, I know that my parents exiled you. But you should know better than anyone that not everyone happens to align with the likes of them or their ideals!” she yells over the rain. “I- I seriously want to change the way things are. But I need it to be perfect, anything but and you can bet someone just as bad as them will be sitting up on that throne! And they might do worse than banish and imprison.”
You stare at her with wide eyes, so shocked you speak before your brain even has time to catch up, “They teach you that in princess school?”
Dahyun crosses her arms with a pout, muttering, “That’s not a thing.”
You turn to hide your smile, “If you say so.”
You only get a few paces away to reenter the woods when you realize you don’t hear any movement behind you. Turning around, you find Dahyun still standing there. Her posture reeks of defeat. Shoulders slumped. Lantern dangling to the ground. Head low. All of the rain like a vicious fog, only adding to her somber image.
“You coming or not, princess?” you call.
Dahyun looks up with wide eyes, as if not having heard you the first time. Unable to take a win, it seems. You roll your eyes, lifting your lantern and gesturing with your head as if to say come on. The way her face lights up is a magic of its very own.
You turn back forward.
“We still have a lot to discuss, privately,” you say once she reaches your side, making sure your tone leaves no room for discussion. Not out here. Even the woods have ears.
“You won’t regret this, I promise,” she breathes out.
That makes you clench your jaw. The last time a royal promised you something, it’d ended in disaster.
After all, you would know best, since you were the first Kim Dahyun ever promised to marry.

AN: so i may have gone a little overboard with this one, but i think thats ayt considering this is the first dahyun pov of apartment au that we get, and she's basically the main character so, enjoy !!
pairing: dahyun/everyone, mentions of najeongtzu, michaeng, samo apartment au wc: 11820
A sigh. Weary as it is, with exhaustion seeping through, it’s nothing new, unfortunately. Just the product of another late night.
The flash of the red alarm clock by her desk is enough to take her attention away from her current task.
2:47 am.
Again, nothing new. She often finds herself awake at these kinds of hours, toiling over some research paper or some case study that needs to be finished soon.
Tonight, it’s a project proposal regarding a gallery exhibit that’s aimed to target the masses through pieces on sociopolitical awareness.
Tomorrow, it’s a paper on color semantics and their effect on people when used for educational means.
And the day after that, it’s a case study that explores the exposure of a certain community near their area to visual and performance art.
Then after that…well, Dahyun doesn’t keep track of things that far ahead.
With another glance at her laptop, the blinking text cursor stares at her, almost tauntingly, as she rechecks the required word count for this paper.
2000 words. And she’s got around 1500 already done.
That merits some kind of reward, right?
With her skin itching and her teeth chewing on nothing, she puts her laptop on sleep.
Thankfully, there’s no one in her bed tonight to be disturbed. They probably all got the hint when Dahyun came home earlier in the night, alone and silent.
Her door creaks open, and the hallways of the apartment, her apartment, are only lit by the moonlight that twinkles through the windows.
Most of her tenants are nightly creatures, but in an effort to provide their landlord with the peace she needs at this hour, they refrain from making any noise. It’s something she’s grateful for, but it doesn’t really help, not when most nights she’s awake, and little can put her to sleep.
Her psych says it’s the insomnia.
Dahyun thinks it’s just the way the world works nowadays. That, and sleeping pills put a sour taste in her mouth. Literally and figuratively.
Slipping on a pair of shoes and sliding on a coat over her university hoodie and sweatpants, she steps out into the night, not really sure of where she’s headed, but hoping that the walk will be enough to take the energy out of her.
This is what happens most nights for Kim Dahyun, the Lady of the Sanctuary, as she struggles to get a good night’s rest.
And like most nights that this happens, a tenant slips out of their room, if only to wander after their wayward landlord.
Fallen (But not Alone)
Near the apartment, a few blocks away, there’s another apartment complex. It’s abandoned, with ruined rooms and decaying paint, but it’s still structurally sound.
Enough for children to wander into and play out their childhood fantasies in an urban wasteland. Enough for teens to claim a few empty rooms on their own, tagging the walls with graffiti and living it up with their friends. Enough for young adults to stay and take a breather when they need a break from it all.
Which is what Dahyun’s doing.
She’s midway up the stairs to the rooftop when she hears the ever subtle flapping of wings.
Given that there are three beings in the apartment with the capability of supernatural flight, Dahyun’s learned to tell them apart.
This one comes gently, like the falling of feathers onto skin, caring and nurturing. The sound her wings make are barely a sound, if only to let Dahyun know that she is near.
Dahyun says nothing when she hears a second pair of footsteps follow her, up until she opens the door to the roof.
Out here, in the city, the night sky is but a pale image of what it is meant to be, with the light pollution blotting out the stars in the sky, and the clouds of smog that dot the horizon.
Her hand slides into her pocket, pulling out a box of cigarettes and a lighter.
It is only then that the voice speaks.
“Think I could bum one off you?”
Dahyun doesn’t try to stifle the chuckle that leaves her throat.
“Fallen angels don’t have a predisposition to cancer?”
Jeongyeon sidles up to her, stepping next to where Dahyun’s postured herself, in front of the barrier that overlooks the edge of the building.
As always, the fallen angel has elected to dress simply. Almost like a college student, she’s wearing a simple hoodie folded up to the elbows, comfy pajama pants, and soft sandals. Her short hair rests comfortably on her neck as she smiles at Dahyun.
“Nah. Part of the whole ancient divinity kind of deal.”
Her fingers swipe a cigarette from the open box, as Dahyun flicks on the lighter. The small flame comes up to the stick in Dahyun’s mouth, as she puffs out a cloud of smoke.
With a smooth inhale, the end of Jeongyeon’s cigarette ignites on its own.
“Kind of takes the thrill out of it, doesn’t it?”
Jeongyeon shrugs.
“A little bit. But when you get to my age, there’s little thrill in anything.”
Dahyun’s eyes regard the stars, twinkling despite their distance. Jeongyeon merely follows the movement.
She was the first one Dahyun met, when she originally claimed the apartment. Jeongyeon had been there since the beginning, after all. Many of the ancient wards and glyphs that protected the building we crafted by her own hands.
It’s only been two years since then, since the deed to the apartment had been put in Dahyun’s name, since she moved to the city and found herself in charge of a supernatural sanctuary. It feels longer, like time stretched through syrup, waning and waxing slowly, almost painfully.
But thankfully, Jeongyeon’s been there through it all.
She’ll likely be there after it all too, when the apartment is passed onto another soul.
That’s years from now for Dahyun. But for Jeongyeon, it’s probably the blink of an eye.
“They called me the Angel of the Stars, y’know. Back when I was up there.”
Dahyun turns to her, flicking cigarette ash off the building.
“Well, I’m pretty sure that’s still what they call me. But back then, it meant a lot more.”
She rarely speaks of a time when her wings were as pure as the brightest day, before she had touched upon the earth, and before she had been bound to it. Dahyun listens.
“When I came into existence, I knew about them. Those countless constellations that dot the sky like holes in paper. They’re magnificent. Countless. Immeasurable. And yet, so far out of reach.”
She extends a hand to the sky, and for a moment, the clouds, the smog, the light, everything that hides the stars away from the world, vanishes.
And for a moment, Dahyun can see them all.
Glittering, sparkling, twinkling.
Light shines from even the farthest of them.
Thousands and upon thousands of stars.
All unique, no two alike.
It’s beautiful.
But it is only for a moment, and the darkness in the sky seeps back in as Jeongyeon chuckles.
“Funny that Father decided to put so much effort into such a vast universe, but decided to center his sights on this planet, no?”
Dahyun agrees.
Why this planet? Why this silly little rock in space, with the prevalent creature being a misshapen, angry, chaotic creature that laid waste to everything in sight? What was so special about humans that God decided to favor them so?
“I questioned it too, once. ‘Why them, Father?’ I asked. ‘What makes them so special?’ And as always, His answer was as cryptic as it is.”
Dahyun turns to Jeongyeon, only to see her already staring at her, a creature so small and insignificant, she could burn in Jeongyeon’s light if she willed it.
But instead, her eyes twinkled, like those faraway stars.
“See for yourself, He said. So I did. Willingly watched as my wings turned black for descending to Earth, and I watched. The Grigori, they called us. Watchers of Mankind.”
Jeongyeon’s hand dances along Dahyun’s wrist, before grasping softly.
“And He was right. There’s no one, nothing out there like you.”
She pulls it up, pressing her lips softly to the back of Dahyun’s palm. In an instant, her weary shoulders feel freer, and her body lifts with a natural energy to it, as if the restraints that shackled her down have been disposed of.
“No one out there like you, Dahyun.” Jeongyeon repeats.
Dahyun says nothing. Because she can say nothing. No words can amount to the wonder, affection, and confusion that Dahyun feels, knowing that such an ancient, divine, and powerful being has fallen at her knees and professed their most ardent of affection towards her.
Jeongyeon is the Angel of Stars, the Burning Light, Kokabiel. A being that willingly fell from heaven, if only to protect and nurture humanity from what darkness lies in the corners of the earth. Her kindness knows no bounds. Her care extends to all. Her love is unadulterated and pure. There is no other being like her in existence.
While she is just Kim Dahyun. A struggling college senior, trying to make it day by day. One amongst many. A dot in a sea of faceless names and nameless faces. What makes her so special? There is nothing unique about Kim Dahyun.
Yet, the way Jeongyeon looks at her, as if every secret known to man is inside her eyes, tells her otherwise.
And if Jeongyeon can see it somehow, maybe that just means Dahyun hasn’t looked hard enough.
Jeongyeon leans forward, and her lips press against Dahyun’s cheek ever so slowly. Her other hand caresses against Dahyun’s face, with so much care and affection.
When she moves away, Dahyun’s breath is stolen away, her lips curving into a helpless smile.
“Let’s go back home.”
Jeongyeon bows, disposing of her cigarette. Their hands don’t separate, all the way down the stairs of the building, to the apartment door.
When they arrive at the apartment, Jeongyeon pulls the sheets away, sinking into Dahyun’s bed, next to her.
They tuck each other in, fond smiles on each other’s faces.
“Good night, Dahyun. I love you.”
Dahyun’s smile twinkles, like a star.
“I love you too, Jeong.”
Wandering (But not Lost)
The park near the apartment is always open. The gates are never locked, and the guard post at the entrance is almost always void of any personnel.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not well taken care of. As far as Dahyun knows, there’s a caretaker here, who cares for the trees, the shrubs, the pathways, the grass, all to make sure that at least a corner of their community is inviting and pleasant.
It’s a small park, but in the morning and the afternoons, there are always people to find here. Active folk that jog around the paths. Elderly that stroll pleasantly amongst the flowers. Young lovers that hide away amongst the bushes.
Dahyun’s seen it all.
Tonight, it is quiet, which Dahyun is thankful for.
She begins her walk, and breathes in the nature around her.
Not too soon after, she hears the padding of paws against grass, and the soft panting of a wolf.
It is distinct to her, how every treading of paws is quiet, how every pant is subtle, how every movement is stealthed.
As if she does not want to be perceived.
Regardless, Dahyun’s hand outstretches next to her, and it’s only a few moments before fur tickles her palm.
“Hi, Momoring.”
There’s a small yip of acknowledgment from the black wolf.
In this form, Momo’s back reaches Dahyun’s chest, and if she cranes her neck upwards, she can lick Dahyun’s face with ease. With a sleek, yet long and muscular body, Dahyun could easily ride Momo’s back. Not that Momo would want her to.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
Momo snorts, nudging her snout into Dahyun’s stomach.
“Hah…yeah, a little hypocritical of me.”
Her head tilts, looking up into Dahyun’s eyes.
“It’s the usual. I don’t…”
Dahyun pauses, and sighs.
“…I don’t wanna take the sleeping pills.”
There’s a quiet moment of understanding, where Momo acquiesces and continues to tread alongside her.
Momo has never rejected her. Not once. Through Dahyun’s worst moments since she’s started taking care of the apartment, Momo’s always just been at her side. Quiet, unmoving, but a comfort to behold.
She’s been like that since before Dahyun’s moved in.
“Momoring?”
Momo tilts her head to look back up at Dahyun.
“Can I hold your hand?”
If it were anyone else, Momo would whine quietly, tuck her tail between her legs, refuse by padding away.
But Dahyun rarely asks anything of her.
Momo pauses, only briefly, before her body begins to shift.
The transformation looks and sounds painful. Bones crack to reform, skin stretches and rips to reshape, organs shift and shrink to resize. It’s a gruesome process, one that shouldn’t be witnessed, but it happens in less than five seconds.
In five seconds, Momo stands before Dahyun, her human form still taller than Dahyun’s by a good few inches, messy and ruffled black hair down to her shoulders with bangs that almost cover her eyes. She’s always dressed the same when she shifts, a simple grey tanktop and black shorts. Scars litter her body, rippling whenever she flexes her muscles.
With gleaming silver eyes, Momo takes Dahyun’s hand.
“Is…is this okay?”
Her voice is never hoarse of lack of use, but it is always soft, barely heard over the din of the modern world.
But Dahyun makes the extra effort to hear it.
“Yeah. This is okay.”
A small smile comes to Momo’s face as her fingers swipe across Dahyun’s palm, as if trying to memorize the lines and calluses.
Together, they walk.
Momo keeps many of her lupine tendencies in human form, Dahyun’s realized. Her ears twitch at the slightest of sounds. Her nose perks up at any whisper of a scent. Her eyes track and follow any movement that comes across her attention.
With nothing else to focus on, and nothing else she’d rather focus on, Dahyun looks at Momo, the second longest staying resident of the Sanctuary.
“What was it like?”
Momo’s ear twitches in response, and her eyes turn to Dahyun’s, waiting for elaboration.
“Back then. Before…before everything.”
Momo has always been quiet. Never one to share, never one to open. Of the past two years, Dahyun has only ever learned of one thing from Momo’s past.
Before everything, before the Sanctuary, Momo had no name. She was simple referred to as Lupa, the she-wolf.
“It’s hard…to talk about.”
Momo strains. Her voice, already quiet, drops a decibel lower, barely able to be heard.
“I don’t want to force you.” Dahyun whispers back, as if trying to emulate her tenant. “You can tell me only if you want to.”
Momo’s eyes dart across the park, as if she’s seeing ghosts, shadows, trembles of a time long past, a time that has never been mentioned.
Dahyun is curious. But she would never let that get in the way of Momo’s pain.
“…before, I had a pack.”
She struggles to remember. Not because her memory has failed her, but because she has actively tried to forget.
“Two of them…I had two…pups. Then, they had pups. Many.”
They’ve long since stopped walking. They stand now on the tallest hill in the park, overlooking the rest of its green splendor basked in moonlight.
“Then…”
Flickers of a flame spark in Momo’s eyes, as if seeing something she shouldn’t be seeing. Not again.
“I lost them. All of them.”
With those simple words, uttered so quietly even the wind seemed to yell louder, Dahyun understands.
“I…left. And I—I searched. For something. Anything.”
In Dahyun’s eyes, Momo is still searching. Her eyes dart across the horizon constantly, and her body is always at unease, ready to move at the slightest hint of anything unsavory.
“Then you found Jeongyeon.”
Dahyun finishes, and it takes a moment of stunning silence before Momo nods.
There is more to it. But Dahyun has pushed enough tonight.
“Thank you, Momo.”
Momo doesn’t respond, but Dahyun isn’t expecting her to. She’s already gotten so much from her already, it wouldn’t be right to ask for more. Not when it caused her so much pain.
There are many things that Dahyun doesn’t know about Momo.
But the one thing that she does know is that Momo is her tenant.
And that means she needs to be protected.
Dahyun squeezes her hand.
“Home?”
Momo only nods.
They walk back, treading quietly through the park, back the way they came. Above them, the silvery moon hangs precariously in the sky, motes of light only barely managing to reach them amidst the clouds of the city.
When they get to the gate, Momo stops.
Dahyun turns back to look at her.
Behind Momo, the moon glows almost impossibly, casting a highlight to Momo’s form, making her presence much more ethereal, yet still as silent and as calm as the werewolf usually is.
“I am…okay now.”
The smile that barely protrudes on Momo’s face is telling, and Dahyun can’t help but smile back.
Momo’s hand travels from her side, haltingly, up to Dahyun’s face. Her fingers, scarred and callused, tread so gently across her skin, and Dahyun leans into the touch.
“…mi vita.”
She pulls forward, and Dahyun closes her eyes.
Lips press against her forehead, soft and radiant, like moonlight spilling out against a surface.
When Momo pulls away, it is with the utmost care and reverence, one that Dahyun is honored to receive and return in kind.
“Let’s get some sleep.”
That night, when Dahyun curls into her bed, arms scoop around her middle as a warm, human, body presses against her, the soft rumblings of a she-wolf lulling her to slumber.
Scarred (but not Wounded)
There is a canal that travels near the apartment. The water isn’t dirty by any means, but it would be inadvisable to drink it. By the sides of it are raised narrow walkways, allowing one to peer down into the canal that leads further down the borough.
It’s a shortcut that Dahyun passes through on the regular, on the way to school. It leads directly to a street that has an entrance to the subway system, so Dahyun usually ends up passing through either on the way to school or going back home.
She’s even almost fallen into the canal a few times, too sleepy to even walk properly.
That’s not the case now, as she gently treads on the walkway, no railings to guide her step, only the back walls of the building that close in on this little canal.
Sleep evades her, and for good reason. She’s been struggling with it, as of late. Mustering the energy to get up and work has been quite the feat, if only because of the extra work she’s had to put in because of college.
Now, no matter how much sleep she gets, she always wakes up tired and ready to go back to dreamland.
“My Lady?”
Effortless in her stealth, and perhaps one of two people in the apartment that is able to sneak up on Dahyun, the voice that comes from behind is regal in its chime, noble in its tone.
“Hiya, Satang.”
When she turns around, Sana curtsies, lifting the ends of her dress to announce her arrival. Her dress, more of a nightgown really, is laced with frills, crimson red highlights against a black fabric. Her hair is brushed immaculately, only serving to shine the gorgeous features of this creature of the night.
“It is beyond the hour of rest, my Lady. You should be in bed.”
Sana’s voice, ever so prim and proper, still manages to show the utmost of concern for Dahyun’s wellbeing.
“I know. I just can’t sleep. And the sleeping pills don’t help. I mean, I do fall asleep, but…”
Dahyun closes her eyes, and all she can recall are the flashes of lightning and thunder.
“…I get really bad dreams when I do.”
In an instant a hand is on hers. Grasping tenderly with a feather-like touch. Dahyun barely would have noticed it if she wasn’t so attuned to the care Sana placed into every touch of their skin.
“Then, my Lady, would it be too much to to ask you if I may accompany you on your stroll?”
Dahyun clenches on Sana’s hand, feeling the slight jump in Sana’s skin when she does.
“You don’t need to ask, Satang. It’s never too much from you.”
Sana hesitates, for just the slightest of moments. Then she inclines her head.
“Then I shall trouble you for tonight with my company.”
Dahyun has to chuckle at the stiff formality that always accompanies Sana’s speech.
It’s no surprise, considering it was how people spoke during Sana’s time. And as someone who used to be a noble of that time, a Countess, Sana’s probably never let go of the habit. Not that Dahyun would want her to. It’s one of her endearing traits.
“May I ask, my Lady?”
With Sana’s hand so daintily grasping hers, Dahyun turns to the vampire as they stroll down the canal’s walkways, with Sana on the side by the edge.
“What’s up?”
“What…troubles you in these dreams?”
Dahyun winces at the recollection. They are no ordinary dreams. They’re dreams that don’t make sense, don’t fit in with her current perception of the world.
“It’s different, a lot of the time. But…I always end up dying, somehow.”
It is then that Sana freezes, and with her skin already cool to the touch, it only chills Dahyun more when Sana looks, almost hauntingly at her.
“Your dreams…deal in death, my Lady?”
When Dahyun nods, Sana exhales a shaky sigh, and her grip on Dahyun’s hand loosens just the slightest bit.
“Different kinds. Sometimes, it’s a…a stab wound, or something. Sometimes, I’m burning. Sometimes, I’m poisoned. Other times, I’m…”
Dahyun kicks a pebble into the canal.
“…drowning.”
Sana stops in her tracks.
“Drowning?”
Dahyun doesn’t realize her breaths are just as shaky as Sana’s until she sighs.
“Yeah.”
When she looks up, Sana is staring, silently, into the canal.
“Are you okay?”
Sana immediately shakes her head.
“No, my Lady, I believe it is I that should be asking you that question.”
The one thing that Dahyun doesn’t like to do when it comes to her tenants is to assign stereotypes. But when it comes to Sana , one thing is for certain.
Just like the myths of the old vampires, Sana is absolutely terrified of treading into running water.
“It is…not a fate I would wish upon anyone.”
Dahyun comes to the conclusion immediately.
“You mean you…”
The silence that follows is deafening.
Sana exhales once more, eyes and fingers trembling at the gentle current that runs through the canal.
Dahyun had barely heard of Sana’s past life, before the apartment, but what she did know is that before everything, Sana had died. The life had left her body as cold as it was now.
As for how many times she died, that was another story entirely.
“It was terrifying, my Lady. The water would not stop running, and the current of the river was too strong for my body to resist. I could only be taken by the flow.”
Sana lets go of Dahyun’s hands, and she takes a slow, hesitant step towards the edge of the path, towards the canal.
“They had…they had tied weights to my ankles and wrists. Light enough to not sink me down to the bottom, but…heavy enough that I could not resurface. Iron shackles that…that tore at my skin. Blessed, I believe.”
Sana hugs her arms close to her chest, and despite all of her strength, her power, her impossible constitution, Dahyun can see nothing but a lost, scared young woman.
“I…I do not know how many times I…I passed in that river. Only that every time I awoke, the water would fill my lungs once more, and my end would come even quicker than before.”
Dahyun immediately rushes by Sana’s side, grasping her hand. The pain that suffuses Sana’s being almost courses through the connection of their skin.
“Sana, I…that’s awful.”
Perhaps, if Sana were younger, there would be tears at the recollection of such a brutal memory. But now, hardened by age and time, she can only smile wearily.
“What has happened to me has happened already. There is no turning back time and going back to such a dreadful memory. I can only be glad that I am where I am now.”
Sana turns to her, and in her eyes, Dahyun can see a fraction of that noblewoman who once stood before, before the horrifying fate she was forced to endure.
They called her Countess Carmilla, the first Vampire. But for such an honorable name, the things she had gone through because of it were close to inhumane.
And yet, despite it all, Sana smiles.
“I can only hope that by being by your side, your pain is relieved, my Lady. That you do not even dare to dream of the pain that I have gone through.”
Dahyun has to marvel at how a vampire, who by all rights is stronger, smarter, and more powerful than any other human, bows to her, her adoration for her Lady far exceeding that of anything she’s ever experienced.
“I can only hope my presence is enough for your weariness to subside.”
Dahyun brings her hands up to Sana’s cheeks, caressing them with a vivid disbelief that despite everything that has been done to her, Sana would still willingly choose to live amongst humans, if only to be with the one that she loved.
“It’s enough, Sana. More than enough.”
Sana faintly smiles, hand reaching up to hold Dahyun’s by her cheek.
“I am glad. It is all I can offer.”
“And it’s all I’m going to ask of you.”
Sana leans in, closing her eyes and pressing her lips against Dahyun’s.
Despite the chill of her skin, Dahyun has never felt so warm being in another’s presence like this. And when she pulls away, Dahyun almost chases after that warmth, the warmth that only Sana can provide.
“Shall we retire to our abode?”
Dahyun sighs, before nodding.
In one fell swoop, Sana’s arms scoop Dahyun up, the Lady of the Sanctuary letting out a small shriek of surprise as her hands hook around Sana’s neck.
“Sana! What’re you—”
“Hush, my Lady. Rest your body. I shall lay you to bed.”
Dahyun grumbles, but only for a little bit. It’s not too bad, being pampered by a vampire.
So, as she closes her eyes, she can distantly hear Sana humming a soft tune, one that sings of love and all of its hardships. And then, a soft whisper by the edge of her ear.
“My heart beats for you, my Lady.”
She goes to sleep dreamless.
Invisible (But not Forgotten)
The streets of the neighborhood Dahyun lives in are quite narrow. In the middle of the city, it’s in a nebulous area that’s urbanized enough to be quite populated and crowded, but not quite developed enough to be too heavily gentrified.
As a consequence of that, the buildings that surround the streets are only one to two storeys tall, a mix of apartment buildings and home businesses and restaurants that give the neighborhood a fairly simple feel, like an escape from the modern world while not treading too far from the conveniences of today.
It’s quiet as she walks along the roadside, air still faintly humid from this morning’s rainfall. There are still raindrops that coat the windows of cars parked on the curb, the faint smell of petrichor that lingers in the air, and the puddles that verge on every pothole in the road.
Dahyun stops in front of one such puddle on the sidewalk, a pricking feeling in her neck that raises a suspicion in her.
Her suspicion is confirmed when she catches a glimpse of a pure white dress, stained crimson, in the reflection of the puddle.
“Have you been following me this whole time, Minari?” Dahyun chuckles.
Mina only smiles, a beautiful one, as she walks closer to Dahyun in the reflection.
“You are not quite as sneaky as you believe you are, Lady Dahyun.”
When the apparition speaks, Dahyun can hear her voice, disembodied and echoey, from next to her ear. She turns, on pure habit, to greet her properly, only to see nothing there.
Still, she knows that Mina is with her. And that is enough for her.
“Walk with me?”
Dahyun glances back to the puddle, in time to see Mina bow her head.
“There is nothing I’d rather occupy my time with, Lady Dahyun.”
And with that, Dahyun continues walking forward.
It is an odd request, to ask a ghost to walk with you. Especially considering you wouldn’t be able to perceive their presence, beyond that of a cold chill down your spine and goosebumps rising on your skin.
But it is Mina, and Mina is always there, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
Dahyun catches glimpses of her as she walks down the street. In the mirrors of parked cars, the glass of building windows, the shine of metal streetlamps. It’s a great comfort to her, to know that she is not alone.
“Today seemed difficult, Lady Dahyun. You were working more than usual.”
It’s the truth. Today was definitely more tiring than most, and Dahyun would be lying if she said it didn’t weigh her down especially today.
“Tell me about it. Barely knew what I was doing today.”
Mina, in the reflection of a bicycle’s side mirror, tilts her head in confusion.
“How so?”
How? Can Dahyun really explain that in a way that someone else will understand? Still, it’s Mina, and she tries.
“It’s like…okay, imagine your mind has a lot of buttons and levers all over the walls.”
Mina nods, following along through the gleam of a bookstore window.
“Aaaand, each button or lever is a certain thing you need to do. Like, one button is you gotta take a proper shower, or another is you have to head to school to go to class, or…you gotta remember to pull on a lever to actually be able to physically socialize with someone.”
They come across a street crossing, and Dahyun unconsciously holds her hand out for Mina, even though there are no cars at this time of night, and Mina can’t even hold her hand properly.
When Dahyun feels a cold chill around her hand, only then does she cross the street.
“But sometimes, you don’t have the energy for all the buttons and switches and levers. Sometimes you can’t reach the buttons that have to do with work. Or, you forget to pull on the levers that are for eating meals. Or, you can’t find the switches that are for talking to the people you love.”
They reach the other end of the street, and Dahyun sighs, clenching her hand around nothing. The cold feeling intensifies, and she’s reminded she’s not alone.
“And then, there are those days you can’t. The buttons are stuck and won’t go down. The levers are too heavy to pull. The switches don’t do anything.”
She stops, in front of a car’s window, where Mina is standing next to her, hand enclasped around hers and eyes staring intently into her own.
“It’s…it’s like that.”
There’s a moment of silence, a moment where Dahyun is afraid she’s word-vomited too much and Mina doesn’t understand.
“Then…how was today, Lady Dahyun?”
A brief recollection of the day’s events has Dahyun scratching her head.
“Well, it was okay? The buttons and stuff…I could push them and switch them, but it took lots of energy to do. Enough that I was so absorbed in the fact of pushing the button down that I forgot to understand what it was I was pressing.”
It’s then that she realizes that what she’s saying makes absolutely no sense.
“Sorry, this is stupid. Probably makes no sense to you.”
Mina only smiles in the car window.
“It is not what it does for me that matters, Lady Dahyun. If explaining it in such a way that makes sense to you relieves some of the pressure that you experience, I would willingly listen.”
Dahyun’s side gets colder, as Mina steps closer to her, gently hooking her arm through hers.
“Even if I do not completely understand it.”
A chuckle leaves Dahyun’s lips, gratitude rising through her smile.
When she first moved into the apartment, the thought of living with a ghost, unseen unless caught in reflections, she was initially conscious of her surroundings, maybe a tad bit frightened.
But now, she can’t imagine the apartment without her.
“And if ever it should bother you that you may be burdening me with your words, there is nothing to be worried about, Lady Dahyun. I love hearing your voice.”
Mina is quiet. Not because she chooses to be, but because there is much she does not understand, and thus, not much to say.
Of all the tenants of the apartment, Mina is the only one that has no memory of her past.
Mina is Mina. That is all Dahyun, and the other tenants, are sure of.
“It…means a lot to me, Mina. Thank you.”
In the reflection, Mina’s gentle hand reaches out to tuck Dahyun’s hair back. It looks as if the air is moving her hair on its own, but Dahyun can only giggle.
Mina smiles, and presses her lips behind Dahyun’s ear.
It’s cold to the senses, but warm to the heart.
“I shall always listen to you, Lady Dahyun.”
With those words that are barely a whisper, Dahyun sighs, and with her sigh, expels a great amount of weight on her shoulders.
“Let’s go home, then. My legs are tired.”
Dahyun walks the rest of the way home, a lone girl strolling across the streets, with naught but a cold wind blowing after her.
Heavenly (But not Distant)
“Here’s your change.”
Dahyun forces a smile to the clerk behind the counter, probably an overworked and underpaid college student like her, judging by the youthful looks that are marred by eyebags and a grimace.
The bells of the convenience store jingle as she leaves. Outside, the more awake part of her neighborhood bustles, as quietly as it can. The main road crosses through here, and as such, the surrounding street’s littered with a number of 24/7 establishments that never cease to be awake.
Neon lights and brightly lit signs coat the surroundings, even though a car only comes passing through every few minutes. People that cross through here at this time, if they even do, are brisk and focused on their own business.
Despite everything, it’s still quiet, relatively.
She sits down on the curb, thankfully dry and clean, relatively.
As she’s opening a bag of chips, she hears the flapping of wings.
These wings are loud, uncaring of any passersby, and magnificent in their tone, like the thundering of an eagle’s feathers.
“Kim Dahyun.”
The accompanied voice is equally as magnificent.
Dahyun sighs, with exasperation, anticipating the lecture she’s about to receive.
“Hi, Tzu.”
“You are meant to be slumbering at this time.”
Dahyun turns, and there she is, Tzuyu, in all her glory.
A tight and high ponytail secures her long brown hair, her hardened features only enhancing her stoic beauty. As always, she’s dressed like an office worker, with a neat white button down, paired with a black tie, blazer, and pencil skirt. It doesn’t help that the already tall angel is wearing office heels that add a few centimeters.
“I know, I know.”
“That is not a healthy source of substance.”
The attention is directed to the bag of chips in Dahyun’s lap, as well as the bottle of soda next to her.
“…no, no, it’s not.”
“I shall dispose of them immediately.”
“Hold on—”
Before Dahyun can say anything, a blinding light surrounds her snack and her drink, and with a snapping noise that pops her ears, they vanish.
“…great,” Dahyun grumbles. “There goes my money.”
Tzuyu can only blink at the perceived negativity in her tone.
“You are…upset?”
“…y’know what? Yeah, Tzuyu. I am upset.”
Dahyun sees no reason to hide it. Not that she has to. Unfortunately as an angel of the heavens, Tzuyu has no concept of human grievances.
“It is dangerous, Kim Dahyun. If you ingest enough of this type of sustenance, then—”
That only makes Dahyun snap.
“I know, Tzu! I know! I know it’s unhealthy, that’s why I bought it! So that I can sit down, ignore all my problems, and stew in my own misery! So, can you get off my fucking back for once!?”
Dahyun breathes, heavily, as she recollects her breath. She only realizes then that she’s raised her voice, quickly glancing at Tzuyu.
The angel’s eyes are wide, taken aback, mouth slightly open, and she’s taken a step back.
“…God, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—fuck…”
Resisting the urge to scream, Dahyun simply curses to herself.
“…I…I apologize.”
Tzuyu looks like a kicked puppy, standing the way she does, head bowed down, and lip quivering. It only punches Dahyun in the gut with a load of guilt.
“No, I…ugh, it’s my fault. I’m sorry, Tzu, I didn’t mean to yell.”
How stupid of her to let loose at Tzuyu, of all people, the one tenant in her apartment that’s more akin to a child than anyone else.
“Can you sit down with me, sweetie?”
Extending an olive branch, Dahyun pats the curb next to her, voice low and soothing.
When she does, she realizes that the bag of chips and the soda have silently appeared back where they used to be. It only makes Dahyun feel guiltier.
Tzuyu hesitates for a moment, a moment that makes Dahyun falter, but eventually she carefully sits down next to Dahyun.
The angel’s staring straight at her, wide, confused eyes that pinch at Dahyun’s heart. Eventually, she can’t take it, and turns her attention back to the snack.
“I was…not aware this was something humans did.”
“…no, it’s…well, maybe other people do it. I know I do it a lot."
Tzuyu tilts her head questioningly.
“You are miserable often?”
The innocent tone of Tzuyu’s voice makes Dahyun stop herself in her tracks. Really, of all people to let know about her anxieties, it had to be the one that didn’t understand the plight of existence.
“I…”
In that moment, she decides not to lie to Tzuyu.
“…yeah, I am, Tzuyu. I’m a pretty miserable person.”
“Why?”
She huffs a sigh.
“Why am I miserable? Geez, that’s a hard question to answer.”
There’s a way that Tzuyu’s questions are posed, so gently innocent and curious, that opens Dahyun up, and makes her want to actually tell the angel about her woes.
“You are the subject of many people’s affections. Your work is produced aptly and satisfactorily. You are not subjected to any sort of poverty. How are you miserable?”
Although, she shouldn’t be surprised. As far as Dahyun remembers, this is Tzuyu’s first time back on earth after centuries of staying in Heaven. Perhaps her definition of what a guardian angel is is a little outdated.
“Well…sometimes, I just am, Tzu. Like, my brain doesn’t work the way I want it to, sometimes. I get really sad all of a sudden. Or, I get really angry. And then it’s hard for me to do things properly. I don’t like that.”
Dahyun sighs. Who knew she’d have to spend her night explaining depression to a cosmic being that could snap her out of existence?
“Yeah, I know I have all of these things. And don’t get me wrong, I love all of that. I love all of you. Which is why I get frustrated when I’m sad, because there’s no reason for me to be sad. I just am.”
Tzuyu stays silent for a moment. A long moment, where Dahyun fears she’s overloaded the angel’s brain.
“So…eating unhealthy food relieves this misery?”
That’s a funny way of putting it, though not entirely untrue.
“Kind of? It’s more of…indulging myself in something I like relieves my mind. Keeps me calmer and stuff.”
Tzuyu nods in understanding, somehow.
“I understand. Then is there anything I would be able to assist you in indulging that would keep you calm?”
Of course. Even though Dahyun is in the worst mood tonight, and she just shouted at her, Tzuyu still has her at the top of her priorities.
When Tzuyu first descended from Heaven itself to declare herself as Dahyun’s guardian angel, she could scarcely believe it. She still remembers how it happened, too.
The ceiling of her apartment had broken in a burst of divine light, and Tzuyu, in her true form, had revealed herself, speaking in tongues that she couldn’t understand.
After yelling and cursing, she had finally reverted to a mortal form, and spoke a language she understood.
Barachiel, she said her name was. The Archangel of Blessings, and the Chief of Guardian Angels herself. Come to protect little ol’ Dahyun, who hurt herself on a daily basis tripping on nothing.
Recalling the memory, Dahyun only smiles.
“…you can indulge me with your presence, Tzu.”
Tzuyu blinks, and it looks as if she’s unaware that that’s an option.
“But you said you needed to indulge in something you like."
“Yeah, and I like you, dummy. Come here.”
Thankfully, Tzuyu obediently scootches closer to Dahyun, like a meek lamb. Dahyun intertwines her fingers with the angel.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you, sweetie.”
Getting mad at Tzuyu is like yelling at a puppy, Dahyun’s realized, and she’d never want to do it again.
“No. I must take accountability for my mistakes. I was unaware of your needs and did not take your emotions into account. Your anger is justified.”
Dahyun sighs, leaning her head onto Tzuyu’s shoulder.
“That’s okay. You didn’t know. You were only worried about me.”
“Yes, but still—”
“Tzu, we’re going to be here all night if we keep apologizing to each other. Let’s just enjoy the quiet, okay?”
“…”
Dahyun hums, taking a chip out of the bag and chewing on it slowly.
Having a guardian angel was definitely not on her list of things she thought she’d be doing, but it’s happened, and she’s blessed that of all the angels in Heaven, it was Tzuyu that came down to her.
Another hand closes on top of hers.
“I…care about you very much, Kim Dahyun.”
Tzuyu’s voice is soft, almost as if she’s afraid of Heaven itself hearing it. She strokes Dahyun’s fingers, so gentle and fond, and Dahyun’s heart bursts with emotion.
“I care about you too, Tzu.”
The rest of the night is spent in silence on the curb, city lights illuminating the streets that surround the pair.
The next morning, Dahyun wakes up to a numerous amount of bags in her room, all containing the same chips she ate the night before.
Guilty (But not Irredeemable)
In the neighborhood Dahyun lives in, there is a church.
It’s honestly more of a chapel, really. Small and quaint and quite old, as far as Dahyun knows, there’s no designated minister or clergy that serves in the chapel. In fact, it’s pretty much abandoned, were it not for the few people that pass by every Sunday to pay their respects.
Dahyun herself isn’t religious. Which is a little ironic, because about two years ago, she just confirmed the existence of Heaven, Hell, God, and just about every other religion that existed. A little odd how they managed to coexist, but she doesn’t think too much about it.
Still, the chapel serves as a quiet and calm place to gather her thoughts and calm herself down.
When she enters, the only sources of light are a dull flickering lightbulb by the ceiling, and more than a few candles that are lit against the stone walls of the chapel.
Dahyun takes a seat, admiring the simple carving of Mother Mary into one of the recessions in the wall. Behind the simple altar, a plain wooden cross hangs from the wall.
At least here, she can get some semblance of peace.
Until she hears the flapping of wings. Batlike and eerie, echoing in the small chapel.
“Gotta hand it to you, babe. You pick the weirdest places to hang out.”
Suddenly an arm is around her shoulder, like an obnoxious boyfriend at the movies.
Dahyun rolls her eyes, but still curls up into the arm of the devil.
“Got tired of waiting around the apartment, Nayeonnie?”
Nayeon, the devil herself (or one of them, at least), shrugs. She’s always had a rather odd sense of fashion, with a loose grey sleeveless shirt, and black sweatpants that look comfy and casual. Her blonde hair’s loosely tied into a low ponytail, but strands of her bangs still get in the way of her face, of which the lower half is covered by a face mask.
“Jeong told us to give it a few hours, but I got impatient.”
“Of course, you did.”
Dahyun chuckles. It comes as no surprise to her that the tenants are worried about her. Hell, no matter what she does, they’ll be worried. A warmth in her chest rises when she thinks about them, and she smiles.
“So, what’s up? Why’re you in this arguably tasteless place?”
“I should be asking you that. How are you in here without getting hurt?”
“Babe, look at the state of this place. You really think someone’s in here maintaining the wards?”
Dahyun takes a look around. The pews are dusty, the floor is cracked, and the walls are barely keeping out the nighttime chill.
“Fair point.”
Nayeon only hums, not commenting on the fact that Dahyun’s avoiding the question, much to Dahyun’s gratitude.
“If you were to go back to the start of your day today, would you do anything differently?”
The question makes Dahyun blink. And think. Her day today was rather…uneventful, if you could call it that.
“Uh…I dunno. I didn’t…make any big decisions or anything, so I guess I’d do it the same way.”
Nayeon rolls her eyes, leaning back onto the pew.
“Really. Not a single thing you’d do differently?”
There’s a certain lackadaisical energy that Nayeon carries herself with, one that somehow makes Dahyun relax and feel more at home with herself. It’s comforting having Nayeon around, if she’s not too busy bickering with the two angels that also inhabit the apartment.
“Well, there’s no point in thinking about what you’d do differently when the day is over. I mean, it’s already over. What’re you gonna do?”
Nayeon’s body rumbles with a laugh.
“That’s true.”
Then she quiets down, eerily so.
“…yeah, that’s true.”
A brief moment of silence before she talks again.
“Fuck, I’m really bad at this whole comforting thing.”
Dahyun eyes her questioningly.
“Ugh, Jeong just mentioned you had a hard day, and I thought…well, maybe I can, y’know, comfort you or something, make you feel better. I don’t do anything around the apartment, so I might as well do this, right?”
At that, amusement rises to Dahyun’s cheeks as Nayeon turns her head away, clearly embarrassed. When their eyes meet, Nayeon scowls.
“Don’t give me that.” She warns. But Dahyun is too amused.
“Big bad devil worried about lil ol’ me?”
Red fills Nayeon’s cheeks at the tease as her scowl deepens.
“Knock it off. You’re lucky I’m even here.”
Dahyun understands the words as Nayeon doesn’t say them. She’s always been one of the most concerned about Dahyun’s wellbeing, even if she had trouble showing it. And Dahyun didn’t want to shame her for her shows of vulnerability.
Biting her tongue to stop herself from teasing further, Dahyun simply leans in closer.
“Yeah, I’m very lucky. Thank you, Nayeonnie.”
If possible, Nayeon’s face gets warmer.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.”
Despite the callous tone to her voice, Nayeon leans in as well, closing her arms further around Dahyun and leaning her head on hers.
“Y’know…” Nayeon starts. “I could…I could do that for you, if you needed it. Restart the day? Make it so that…I don’t know, your day is better?”
Eager to please would be one of Nayeon’s main traits, even if she didn’t show it often. And Dahyun’s not surprised by it. In fact, it only reinforces the belief that Nayeon belongs in the apartment.
Even after everything she’s done.
“But then, we wouldn’t be here. Together.”
Nayeon tenses.
“Sometimes, there’s no easy fix to things. If something wrong happens, we just gotta truck through it and take responsibility for it.”
Of all of the inhabitants of the apartment, Nayeon’s probably one of the only ones that desperately needs to stay there, for her own protection.
Hell doesn’t take too kindly to runaway devils, after all.
“Stop saying things that make you seem wiser than me.”
Despite Nayeon rolling her eyes, Dahyun only senses the slight quiver to Nayeon’s arms.
Devils were born out of malice, hatred, and anger. The deepest pits of humanity’s dark side. But remembering how Nayeon looked when she found the apartment, wounded, scarred, and scared for her life, evil is not the first thing that came into Dahyun’s mind. Even when Tzuyu had declared her true identity.
Mephistopheles. The King of the Crossroads herself. The reason why so many humans had fallen to Hell. A devil that dealt in bargains in exchange for people’s souls. And not just any devil. The one deemed the best at damning souls to hell.
And despite that, Dahyun had welcomed her with open arms.
“Well, would you deny that I am?”
“Babe, I can gift people with the power of foresight. I don’t think you’re wiser than me.”
Dahyun chuckles, only snuggling further into Nayeon’s body.
“Plus, you let a devil come into your own apartment and live there. How smart can you be for that?”
And for a moment, Dahyun hears a sliver of it, hidden behind a facade of humor. Just a tiny bit of self-loathing.
“Would you rather I didn’t?”
Nayeon says nothing for a bit.
Until she reaches out, placing her hands on both of Dahyun’s cheeks, warm as they are.
Her lips press against the tip of Dahyun’s nose, gentle as if she’ll hurt her if she applies too much pressure.
“…no, I’m…I’m glad you did.”
Dahyun beams when Nayeon pulls away, a fond smile on her face.
“There you go. I’m wiser.”
Nayeon can only roll her eyes, but doesn’t deny anything.
“And you’re wrong, by the way. I think you’re great at comforting.”
It’s only a heartbeat of a moment, but Nayeon’s face stretches into wonder, amazement, and gratitude. Showing for a second the Nayeon that Dahyun knows is lying hidden under all the sarcasm, temperament, and guilt.
“Well, of course I am. Did you expect anything less?”
Then it’s back to regular old infuriating Nayeon.
“Of course you are, Nayeon.”
Dahyun chuckles.
“Let’s go home.”
“If that’s what you want, babe.”
When they head to bed later that night, Dahyun might be imagining it, but Nayeon’s arms cling to her a little tighter than usual.
Cunning (But not Evil)
Of all the places to head to in the middle of the night, a library was the last place Dahyun thought she’d end up in.
The library in their neighborhood was underfunded, underappreciated, and underrated. While they did have a great amount of books that were rare and hard to find, it didn’t mean that people went out of their way to look for the library.
Still, that doesn’t stop Dahyun from opening the doors to the library, thankfully open 24/7.
The librarian barely greets her, half-awake at the counter, as she strides past to her corner of the library.
Her corner of the library is a nook at the very corner of the building, where two bookshelves barely meet, and she can easily slide her small body into the space in between the two shelves. Lowering herself down to the ground, she pulls a random book from the shelf.
It honestly doesn’t really matter what book she reads, because she’s not reading them for the contents. Something to focus her attention on, something that’s not related at all to work, is exactly what she needs right now.
“Pssst.”
There’s a murmur of a voice from next to her.
When she turns to look, there’s a pure white mouse on the bookshelf, peering over to look at the book.
“Whatcha reading?”
Dahyun sighs, before closing the book and looking at the title.
“The Biology of Genies.”
The mouse skitters.
“Genies! Bleh. A bunch of scammers, really. You’re not allowed to ask for more wishes? Lame.”
Dahyun side-eyes the mouse.
“And you’d know a lot about scamming, wouldn’t you, Chaeng?”
The mouse leaps off the shelf, and in a whirlwind of a silhouette forming, Chaeyoung appears in the space the mouse used to be in.
Dressed in a pair of shorts, a simple print tee, and an unzipped jacket, the shapeshifter’s hair is flattened by a baseball cap, blonde hair drifting down her shoulders as she grins.
“Of course! I perfected the art!”
Grinning down at Dahyun, the shapeshifter puffs out her chest. It’s endearing, and Dahyun reaches out to pull Chaeyoung down to the ground. She acquiesces, sitting in front of Dahyun and smiling eagerly.
“So! Mind telling me what you’re doing in this boring place?”
Dahyun tucks the book away, knowing she’s not going to need it to be distracted.
“Oh, I don’t know.” She sighs. “Getting away from it all, I guess.”
Chaeyoung nods in understanding.
“I feel you. Sometimes, you need to get away from it all, y’know? Life’s too short to spend on stressful things!”
Dahyun raises an eyebrow.
“Aren’t you immortal?”
“That’s besides the point! The sentiment is the same. We should do something fun!”
The gleam in Chaeyoung’s eye is enough for Dahyun to immediately decline.
“Chaeyoung, your idea of fun is setting something on fire to scare the locals.”
“But that is fun! No one gets hurt too, it’s magic fire!”
A mischievous woman, Chaeyoung always was the source of some weird happenings in the neighborhood.
“Oh, like the time you made it so that that dude’s face was on the back of his head, just because he didn’t open the door for you?”
“It was temporary!”
“He had an inverted head for six months, Chaeng.”
“Like I said, temporary!”
Dahyun’s just chalked it up to Chaeyoung being out of her environment. She might be one of the most well-adjusted to modern society in the apartment, but that doesn’t mean she necessarily has human sensibilities.
“And what about the time you tried to curse someone’s car to make human-like noises?”
“Dude, that was hilarious!”
“You gave the car sentience on accident!"
“Still hilarious!”
“It drove away from the neighborhood screaming!”
“Okay, that was kinda creepy, I’ll admit. But still funny!”
Then again, considering where Chaeyoung had come from and her true nature, Dahyun shouldn’t be surprised. A god of mischief is bound to get into trouble no matter where she goes.
“Seriously, you need to keep a lower profile. You’re attracting attention to yourself.”
“Oh, I can handle it.”
“Really? And if your family comes looking for you?”
“They can’t do anything! I’m in the Sanctuary!”
“Still, Chaeyoung, you need to be more careful.”
“Ugh, stop nagging on me. You sound like my brother.”
With that, Chaeyoung crosses her arms and turns away, disgruntled and grumbling.
Stubborn and mischievous. A bad combo, especially when it came to Chaeyoung.
When a shapeshifter had shown up on her doorstep, looking for safety, she thought nothing of it.
When it was revealed that that shapeshifter was actually Loki, of the Norse pantheon, that’s when Dahyun had to actually pay attention.
Escaped from her prison and desperately seeking sanctuary, Chaeyoung had run away from her family, after everything they’d done to her. At first, Dahyun thought everything would be fine, but when Chaeyoung had shown her more…difficult tendencies, Dahyun had to adjust.
“Chaeng, you know I’m just worried about you, right?”
Chaeyoung refuses to answer, still turned away.
“It’s just dangerous for you to be putting yourself out there too much. Your family’s still looking for you, and if they were to find the Sanctuary, I’m not sure what I’d be able to do to protect you.”
Finally turning to her, Chaeyoung scowls.
“I don’t need protecting, Dahyun. I’m a god, for crying out loud.”
“And yet, you came to me when you were looking for help.”
There’s nothing Chaeyoung can say to that, so she doesn’t.
“It’s up to you. But I’d hate to see you in danger.”
Dahyun sighs. Chaeyoung is a hard person to deal with, but she would never wish harm on her.
“…ugh, fine.”
Chaeyoung crosses her arms, pouting.
“I’ll keep a low profile. There, are you happy?”
“Yes. Thank you, Chaeyoung.”
Dahyun smiles at the compromise, and leans in to kiss Chaeyoung, at the corner of her lips.
“Good. Because I told Jeongyeon this would only take a few minutes before I brought you back home.”
Chaeyoung stands, and it’s only then that Dahyun realizes.
“Wait…did you bait me into that conversation?”
The trickster god shrugs.
“I knew you’d never want to do anything fun. I figured if you were too busy worrying about me, it would take your mind off of whatever you’re worried about.”
What an underhanded tactic. Yet, it worked, and Dahyun can’t help but be both irritated and thankful at the same time.
“I guess I should know better than to try and argue with a god of mischief.”
Living up to her name, Chaeyoung smiles mischievously, with no small amount of warmth.
“You love me, though.”
She says it so arrogantly, so truthfully, and with such smugness that Dahyun can’t help but roll her eyes, take Chaeyoung’s outstretched hand, and stand up.
“Yes, I do, unfortunately. Let’s head back.”
“Wait, unfortunately?! The hell is that supposed to mean?”
“It means what you think it means, Chaeng. Now stop fussing and let’s go.”
Thankfully, when they get home, Chaeyoung’s too lazy to keep the argument up, and they wind up sleeping in the lounge, a blanket tucked over their resting bodies on the couch.
Cynical (But not Hopeless)
There was a time when Dahyun was just a child, eager to visit her grandmother in the city.
Her grandmother who was the landlord of an apartment, in the middle of a curious neighborhood of the city.
An apartment that seemed to be home to all sorts of people, weird people. They all had their own eccentricities back then, and Dahyun was too young to judge them as anything but odd.
Her grandmother would always tell her to treat them with respect. The groundskeeper of the apartment, a young woman who seemed to perpetually have a broom in hand and a kindly smile. The larger-than-life black dog that never seemed to like her, always growling when she got near. The odd woman who always wore red dresses, sang beautifully, and only seemed to come out when the sun was gone. And many others.
At the time, she thought nothing of it.
Now, though, knowing everything, it seems as though her grandmother had known that the apartment was going to go to her.
When her grandmother had passed, her wish was to be buried in the graveyard in the neighborhood, a small detachment of the park that always seemed to be cared for, despite having no caretaker.
“Hey gramma.”
Which is where Dahyun’s found herself now.
The graveyard’s quiet, as graveyards usually are.
Dahyun comes here often, when there’s too much on her mind, and nothing to distract her.
She puts her hands together, and bows. She’s already exhausted everything she could say to her grandmother, and she was never really one to spend too much time talking about her day.
So, she merely pays her respects, whispers a faint ‘I love you’ and stands quietly.
Then she hears the footsteps behind her. Footsteps that are normally silent, but made obvious enough for her to notice.
“Ji?”
The footsteps come to a halt next to her, and with her body almost materializing out of the shadow, Jihyo stands solemnly.
“It is dangerous this time of night, my love.”
With a red tipped spear in hand, old and worn out but tight fitting leathers, and black hair braided down, Jihyo looks intimidating in the night.
But to Dahyun, Jihyo, with her soft features, round and shining eyes, lips curved into a frown, looks beautiful.
“Hi.”
At Dahyun’s voice, Jihyo sheathes her spear on her back, stepping closer.
“A burial ground is no safe place to be. A necromancer may give rise to the dead that rest here.”
Dahyun shakes her head.
“No, Jeongyeon keeps the wards up around this cemetery. It’s safe.”
Jihyo looks around, with more than a little suspicion, but bows her head in acquiescence.
“As thou wishest.”
Jihyo is from a different time, as they all are, and the question comes to Dahyun a little reluctantly.
“Ji, can I ask you something?"
Jihyo perks up.
“Anything, my love.”
“Well, this is a little sensitive…so I’d understand if you didn’t want to answer, but…”
There’s a moment of hesitation, but Dahyun ends up asking anyway.
“You knew me…like, in a previous life. Right?”
She can’t quite see Jihyo clearly in the darkness of the night, but what little moonlight does illuminate the graveyard shows how Jihyo’s body tenses momentarily.
“…that is correct. I knew thee in all thy lives.”
The concept of reincarnation is still something difficult to grasp for Dahyun, but she accepts anyway.
“What was…I…like?”
Jihyo inhales shakily, and Dahyun doesn’t hesitate to grab her hand.
“No need to answer if it’s difficult. I was just…curious, y’know?”
Jihyo’s eyes drift to the ground, and Dahyun thinks for a moment that she won’t answer.
“…thou wert always a hero.”
A hero?
“In thy first life…the life I first met, thy name was Cu Chulainn.”
The Hero of the Ulster Cycle. Dahyun doesn’t know much about Irish mythology, but the name does ring a bell.
“Thou wert…strong, compassionate, and loving. Thou wouldst fight for all that thou caredst for with everything thou hadst.”
That doesn’t sound like her at all. Now, Dahyun is just a little mouse that runs away from all her problems.
“And then…thou passed from this world fighting.”
Jihyo takes a moment, before looking up at her, eyes shining with unshed tears.
“And thou wouldst continue to do so, for every life that I had met.”
There is such sadness in her voice that it makes Dahyun ache.
“…I’m sorry.”
Jihyo shakes her head.
“No. Thou fought for what thou believedst in. I could never take that from thee.”
Her hand squeezes Jihyo’s.
“Mine only wish…is that I had known thee sooner.”
The amount of dedication that Jihyo has to her is amazing, when in reality Dahyun has done nothing to deserve it. Her previous lives may have been heroes, but the Dahyun of now is no hero.
“Dunno if I can live up to Cu Chulainn of all people. I can barely get through a school day.”
Jihyo suddenly grabs her other hand, startling her.
“No, my love. In this life, thou art the strongest, most compassionate, and most loving that I have ever known thee.”
Her eyes stare into Dahyun’s with such fiery truth that Dahyun has a hard time looking into them. Her chest warms, but her voice cracks.
“But Ji…I’m just…I’m just me.”
It’s then that Jihyo smiles, a rare gift that Dahyun receives.
“Perhaps that is what makes thee strong.”
Then Jihyo leans in, and Dahyun closes her eyes, feeling the spark of electricity that courses through her entire body as their lips meet, spreading warmth from her fingertips down to her toes.
Jihyo pulls away.
“Thy strength always comes from others, my love.”
Then, she kneels, head bowing down in respect and love.
“And if thou ever havest need of mine, thou only needst say the word. Now, and forever.”
Dahyun is stunned, and how could she not be? An immortal witch, basically proposing to her, offering up her strength for hers.
Scáthach may have been a legendary figure in mythology, but to Dahyun, she was just another woman that had her heart.
“God, you have no shame at all. Come on, get up.”
Jihyo stands, albeit reluctantly, looking up at Dahyun with expectation.
“Thanks, Ji. That makes me feel a bit better.”
“I am glad.”
Dahyun takes the hand of an immortal warrior, and smiles at her.
“Let’s head home.”
Tired (But not Resigned)
In all those other nights, Dahyun is accompanied by one of her tenants. Through stories, jokes, and love, she is comforted and kept warm.
This night, however, she is alone.
She passes by the abandoned apartment complex first. The rooftop is nice and peaceful, and the sky is clear, clear enough for her to catch a glimpse of a meteor shower in the far distance. The cigarette in her mouth calms her down, and the smoke is gentle and soothing.
The park is quiet, too. No one strolls along its paths except for her, and she catches a glimpse of a stray dog dozing off under a bush. She smiles, and continues her walk.
The canal’s stream is continuous, and pleasant white noise to her ears. Kicking pebbles into its stream, she squeals in delight when a particularly rapid current splashes her. It’s cool and awakening to the senses.
Strolling by the sidewalk, the streets are filled with a liminal feeling that secures her to the ground, as she runs through the roads with a certain carefree feeling rushing through her veins.
As she gets peckish, chips at the local convenience store are enough for her to sit down by the curb, and watch the neon lights buzz. Cars pass by with their gleaming headlights, and Dahyun takes a few pictures.
When she needs to rest, she does so at the chapel. She takes her time at each image of a saintly figure, lighting candles and wiping away grime and dirt with respect.
The library, open as always, is welcome to her, and she spends her time leafing through page after page of obscure, supernatural information that opens her mind to new possibilities.
At the graveyard, Dahyun lies down next to her grandmother’s grave. She talks, unlike before, to her grandmother, of her tiring day and her stressful work. It takes a while, but at the end of it all she’s more than a little relieved.
Then, when the sun is about to rise, Dahyun heads home.
A fulfilling night, one that’s successfully taken her mind off of everything.
But, a little empty.
Like something’s missing.
She sighs as she fits the key into the apartment door. When she twists it open, she’s greeted by a tall, imposing figure.
“Kim Dahyun.” It rumbles.
Dahyun smiles fondly. “Hi, Tzu.”
“Jeez, Tzu, you’re gonna scare the poor girl.”
Jeongyeon comes closing in, apron tied around her usual ensemble, eyebrows furrowed as she pulls Tzuyu away.
“She was gone for an extended amount of time.”
“Yes, yes, we were all worried.”
Jeongyeon smiles at Dahyun, from where she’s ushering Tzuyu off to the side.
“I made you some soup if you’re hungry. Healthy soup, by the way, not like those chips you ate.”
Dahyun has the dignity to be embarrassed, scratching the back of her head.
“Hey, let her live a little. Nothing wrong with pigging out every now and then.”
Nayeon, relaxing on one of the couches in the entry room of the apartment, winks at her.
“If you had your way, Nayeon, she’d always be eating unhealthily.”
“I mean, I could always just gift her with eternal youth, so it wouldn’t matter anyway.”
“Nay!”
“Okay, okay, I won’t.”
Dahyun feels the smile in her heart before it grows on her face.
She spends some time eating Jeongyeon’s soup, trying to fend off Tzuyu’s overbearing questions, and rolling her eyes at Nayeon’s sardonic humor.
As she’s stepping up the stairs, a ghostly white visage appears in one of the mirrors she’s strategically placed throughout the apartment.
“Lady Dahyun.”
There is an exasperated look on her face, and it’s one Dahyun is used to.
“Did Chaeyoung do something again?”
The ghost nods wearily.
A few moments later, Dahyun has a guinea pig in her hands, moving away from one of the apartment rooms.
“Hey! This is assault! Get your hands off my soft, pudgy, body!”
Mina sighs from wherever she is.
“You can always change back whenever you deem fit, Lady Chaeyoung.”
“Well, I like this form! And I like it when Dahyun carries me!”
“Then why are you complaining?”
After putting a reluctant Chaeyoung in Mina’s room, Dahyun strides through the hall, until the murmur of a soft song catches her attention.
Peering into one of the rooms, she smiles.
A large wolf’s head is perched upon a pale lady’s lap, the vampire humming softly as she gently drags her fingers through the wolf’s fur. The wolf rumbles in pleasure.
Sana looks up, pausing momentarily in her song. She smiles at Dahyun.
“Good evening, my lady.”
Momo opens one lazy eye, before exhaling through her nostrils in acknowledgment.
“I hope you had a lovely stroll.” Sana greets.
Dahyun smiles in return.
“I did, thank you, Satang.”
Momo lets out a whine of disappointment.
“Alright, alright.”
Sana chuckles, then continues to stroke through her fur, continuing her song.
When Dahyun gets up to her room, the shadows tremble slightly as a figure materializes in the corner of her bedroom.
“Was thine evening walk pleasant, my love?”
“…it was okay. A little empty.”
“Empty?”
“Something was missing.”
“Whatever could that be?”
Dahyun looks around her room, spotting the closed laptop and the papers strewn about her desk. From around the apartment, voices filter through faintly.
“Tzu, it’s just soup, it can’t hurt you!”
“It was of a heat that is dangerous to a mortal body.”
“Didn’t know you made your soup with hellfire, Jeong.”
“Mina, I swear, you’re such a buzzkill!”
“…if you get trapped in another divine seal, I’m not helping you.”
“Wait, I was kidding!”
“Lady Momo, I apologize, but would you be able to adjust your head? I cannot feel my legs.”
“Woof!”
Then, she smiles.
“Nah, it’s nothing. Let’s go to bed, Ji.”
Dahyun closes her eyes with Jihyo’s arms around her, and as consciousness fades, she idly wonders why she’s no longer tired.

tzuyu looks at the digital clock on her oven just as the bell to her front door chimes. a slight curve forms at the edge of her lips, there's only one person who comes into her bakery at seven in the morning and she knows who that is. the girl who owns a flower shop just across the street, kim dahyun. "tzuyu-ya, good morning!" "good morning, dahyun," tzuyu responds, turning her body to face dahyun who smiles with her crescent eyes. "I got you the usual," dahyun excitedly brings out a handful of flowers, purple in colour, her favourite. dahyun has been gifting her flowers ever since her shop opened a week ago, at first tzuyu thought it was a greeting gesture so in return she gave her warm pastries, but then dahyun started giving her flowers daily. It's not like tzuyu hates it, it's quite the opposite. not a lot of people can enjoy the fresh scent of flowers first thing in the morning. although, it makes her wonder why dahyun is willing to do such a thing. tzuyu asked her once and, "a customer declined their order," was what she said. makes sense if this wasn't the eighth flower she received this week (mind you, a week only has seven days). "you'll turn my bakery into a flower shop, dahyun," she jokes. "i know," dahyun laughs. tzuyu stares at the flowers in her hand. canterbury bells (tzuyu searched for its name after she got the fifth). then the oven behind her beeps and the fragrant smell of caramelised coffee fills the air as soon as it is opened. "i made a new bread and you'll be the first one to taste it," tzuyu says whilst pulling out a tray full of coffee buns and setting it down on the counter, "i hope it turns out good. give me a review, okay?" "everything you make turns out better than good," dahyun mumbles low enough for tzuyu to hear it. "of course! i'll give the feedback as soon as possible." dahyun smiles. "as always, thank you for the flowers." "no problem." because of their busy days, these are the only conversations the two of them ever exchanged, no more than five minutes. it makes tzuyu wonder what type of person dahyun is, and the more days pass the more her curiosity grows. an idea suddenly crosses her mind... "dahyun." she turns around, "yeah?" "are you free tonight?" ...tzuyu wants to know more about the flower girl from across the street. a short piece i wrote for the added flower shop au you gave me 😛 -datzu
"(mind you, a week only has seven days)" CRACKED ME TF UP 😭😭😭😭😭 dahyun only flirting through flowers and tzu being the one to initiate an actual date!! and canterbury bells being a symbol of love,,..... dahyun has game too!!! 🫂🫂🫂
this was so cute,, thank you for blessing me datzu anon i loved it so much 🥹

Lately, everything felt so unreal. And what did you do for the whole day? Pretend that the relationship you got yourself was nothing.
It’s working.
You feel the quick rush of the wind on your face. “Were you not kidding when you texted me? Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?” Dahyun ran to you to bombard you with questions about a piece of particular news you just shared with her. You let the word spread before telling your friends about it after they heard such an unexpected update about you.
“Keep it quiet. I’ll tell you all about it if you keep your voice down,” you quickly covered the mouth of the girl in front of you. After that rough move, you dragged her to the seat beside you and fixed her messy hair.
“There you go,” you tried to smile. Dahyun looks… not that bad. “Alright, I’m not! We’re just doing this for his ex. And it’s been just a few days, Dahyun! I don’t want everybody to know right away.”
Dahyun snorted, moving her head away from you. Her assumptions were correct. There was no way that you’d date Lee Minho. You’re “out of his league”, and you two are secretly enemies.
Not only does he tease you every second, but almost every class is also a competition. You’ll never forget how he was petty over the fact that he got a perfect score in the machine project first just because he scheduled his demo earlier than you. You could’ve rejoiced since the two of you were the only ones who got a perfect score in your class, but no. Minho decided to use his bragging rights because of that demo appointment unnecessarily. You were too nervous to demo right after the deadline; that was it!
When you stepped into the computer lab earlier this morning, you immediately heard your classmates close to Minho talking about your relationship. They’re right, though. Who would date a new person just a few days after he and his ex broke up? You’re right. It’s Minho—he gave out that kind of vibe.
Sighing and shaking your head, you cross your arms. “You need time to process and laugh over that, Kim? He’s an annoying ass. Who would fall for him?” You know that anybody would. That dude’s not only smart but also attractive: a consistent dean’s lister,  a volleyball varsity player, and a nice guy. You’re the only person he’s not friendly to.
“Anybody would. Minho is a pretty cool guy,” someone joined in your conversation. That was the only answer, as expected.
Chaeyoung gets a chair from your other side and places it in front of you and Dahyun. “I heard it, by the way, _____. Dahyun told me. Minho choosing you just to get his ex back totally makes sense. You hate him, and he hates you. Hell, even his ex hates you! That woman would take him back in a flash if she sees you with him.”
You recall the last encounter you had before confirming the relationship. You snort, “The funny thing is that that was not how he approached me and told me his problem.”
“Both of you avoid each other like the plague. Yeah, Minho would never ask you to fake date him all of a sudden—” Dahyun cut her off by hitting her arm. Chaeyoung groans, holding her arm tight. “Just tell us!”
I’m really sorry.
Is this the person who accidentally bumped you yesterday? You had to go home with a coffee stain on your white shirt. It might be him because you have no idea who he was, and you’re sure you don’t have his number.
I still love you.
“You just received a message, right? Why is that person flooding you right when you’re in class?” Yeji moves her seat closer to you, peeking at the phone in your hands. “You gotta hurry, though. You know our professor wants some peace in group activities.”
I miss you so much.
Who even is this?
In case you lost my number, it’s 09*********.
“_____, do you mind turning your phone off, even just for an hour?”
I know that you’re really happy with him, but I want to see you.
Shit, your professor’s glaring at you. Yeji takes your phone and does the work. “Just power off!”
Unconsciously scratching your head, you apologize, “I’m so sorry, Ma’am. That was a lot of spam messages.”
“Learn how to mute your phone next time.” You nodded right away and said yes. Oh, you’re so done. You’re the teacher’s pet in this class; you might’ve lost it because of these messages.
What’s weird is that it goes on even the next few days after. You still receive messages. While in the canteen, you lightly monitor the phone in front of you as you work on assignments. The truth is, you’re looking after every message and call made by this person. Even if you muted this number, you wonder if they will stop soon.
“I don’t understand that. What the hell is that?”
“That’s called math, you dumbass!”
“Sorry! I’m not in a computer-related degree like _____!”
“So am I, Chaeyoung!”
Grunting, you go back to flipping the notes in your notebook. You are already not in the mood to look at the messages and calls from your phone right now. The deadline for this assignment is less than an hour, and you’re unfortunately procrastinating.
The phone rings loudly, mixing with the noise made by your surroundings. The stoves from every stall sizzle very loud, the laughs students can’t hold in, and utensils and plates are clacking here and there. It was too overwhelming until you just wanted to get out of here. But you have got to eat, you still have two more classes later, and you’ll have no time to eat.
As your phone's ringing ends, it returns just a minute later. This cycle has repeatedly happened for the past twenty minutes, and you don’t give a damn about it now.
You quickly look at the surrounding people. The table at the center of the room was Minho and his friends. Felix and Chan are members of the volleyball varsity. From what you know, they’re the only close friends Minho has in computer science. His other friends, like Seungmin, Changbin, and Jisung, are taking different degrees, and you are coincidentally friends with them too. That’s all because of Yeji.
Minho, Chan, and Felix are the popular ones. Being a varsity team member equals a big following from the student population. The yearly championships are like a tradition; everybody attends that every year. So, as expected, they’ll sincerely support their alma mater’s team.
You admit that they’re very skilled players. Minho’s the best at serving, Felix can receive the ball right away with his speed, and Chan can block so well because of how high he can jump. In conclusion, the team’s weak without them.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and looked at your side immediately. “Are you aware that you’ve been staring at Minho and his friends? And Minho’s looking back at you? With a phone in his hand?”
Widening your eyes, you pretend to be working on your assignment again. Hopefully, none of them will bother you. More like you hope Minho will not bother you. Chan and Felix are not menacing, like Minho.
You’re getting out of here. You ate your meal anyway, and all you have left is your assignment. Just go to the library as if nothing happened, and you can avoid Lee Minho for the rest of the day.
Packing up your things, you tell your friends that you’re leaving. “What? _____, don’t leave us here!”
“Dahyun, I feel embarrassed. I don’t want him to come here and make fun of me. He’s going to be egoistic all over again. I’ll just go to the library so nobody can ruin my day.”
As you quickly get out of the canteen and walk down the hallways, you feel a pull on your arm. “What are you doing—”
“Are you seriously playing with me right now?
Minho gets to scroll down your call history and all the messages he sent. Breathing loudly through his nose and clenching his teeth, he asks you another question, cornering you between the lockers and the wall. “Are you playing with me right now so I could look stupid?”
Unable to form a coherent answer, you try to speak whatever you can say, which is nothing. “Uh, well, you know, I really—”
His soft lips cut you off, leaving you widening your eyes for the nth time today.
“He kissed you?”
“Don’t tell me that’s real.”
You thrash around in your seat. “Let me continue!”
Still confused over the sudden turn of events, all you did was move your arms around in your place. Unfortunately, you can’t even take a step or stand tall because Minho still caged you in his arms.
His head moves to ask you near your ear, “Where is she?”
You don’t answer his question and push him off. The more you pushed him, the more he kept you in his arms. You do not know how weird this feels. He does not have any idea what personal space is. You try to complain louder; all he does is cover your mouth. You want to scream at his face, but you end up sounding muffled to him.
“Answer me, _____. And I’ll let you go,” he slowly moves his hand from your mouth.
“Do you mind telling me who’s that she first?”
Rolling his eyes, he finally steps away from you just a little. “My ex, Ara, of course. Who else would I mention?”
“I don’t know, a classmate or something? But yeah, Ara passed by earlier. She’s gone now.”
Heaven finally hearing your prayers, Minho lets go of you and steps away. You clear your throat. “Thank you. It was suffocating there in the corner.”
You thought he was going to leave you there already. You thought you could go to the library in peace after encountering the worst situation in mind. The worst of the worst came to you at this moment.
“From now on, we’re in a relationship—”
You step forward and raise your hand. “Who says we can be in a relationship?”
Minho tilts his head and smiles. “Why don’t you let me finish first before you react? We will do this to make Ara jealous and get her back. We’ll just pretend.”
This teasing asshole strikes again. You shake your head. “Why me? You could’ve picked someone better.”
“Oh, don’t worry. You’re the perfect fit. Remember this?” He shows you your phone in his hands. “You played me. Getting into this fake relationship is your way of paying me back.”
Minho hands you back your phone in your hands. Before leaving, he greets you with his classic smirk, making your blood boil. “See you around, love!”
“Chaeyoung, please tell me that _____ is hallucinating.”
Groaning, you shook her shoulders. “It’s real, Dahyun! He even introduced himself to my family earlier this morning already.”
Chaeyoung snickers. “This whole fake relationship sounds like torture.”
Your relationship barely started, and it’s not what you wanted. Even if some part of you liked this so you could see annoying Ara’s face, you know there will be regrets in involving yourself. Not only were students gossiping about you, but Minho’s friends also started teasing you. Felix is a sweetheart, but he had the guts to bug you about your relationship in your last class. Before you left the canteen alone, you found Jisung and Changbin asking you how your fling with Minho was, and you just pushed them away. You wanted none of this.
You take a bite of your sandwich. “Yeah, it is. I hope I get to see Ara pissed off at me so she can take Minho back, and I’ll be over with this deal.”
“Praying that Minho doesn’t treat you like shit, as usual. Maybe a teeny-tiny nicer than he normally is with you,” Dahyun steals the sandwich in your hands and takes a bite. “He is your boyfriend, after all. He must treat you well.”
“You have a distorted view of a couple. This relationship is not a one-sided thing. I, unfortunately, have to be friendly with Minho too, which is irritating.” You get your sandwich back, take a bite, and return it to Dahyun. “It’s all yours.”
You’ll have your next class in less than 30 minutes. Coming to class last minute is stressful sometimes, considering that you’ll do not know how long you can arrive at your classroom. There will be a crowd of students in the halls, especially when classes start again, like what will happen later.
“I’ll go now. The building’s two blocks from here,” you grab your bag and recheck your two friends. “I’ll be fine with him, don’t worry! Don’t give me those sad faces!” You pat both of their heads and push back your chair to the table. “I’ll be fine. I’m used to that.”
Tumblr media
Walking past many people in the hallways, you felt more space around you as… Minho’s friends surrounded you? Your first few days with him were not like this.
“What are you guys doing here? Aren’t some of you supposed to be in the other building?” You looked around, seeing all of them walking near you.
Chan was the first to speak. “Honestly, we have no place to speak about this, _____.”
The one and only Lee Minho greeted you, who walked quickly to your side. “From now on, you’re not going to class alone.”
Not sure if he was joking, but you spoke your mind. “I can do this on my own, and I don’t need you guys joining me here.”
Before you argue more about it, Minho hands you a t-shirt. “Wear this.”
You look at your outfit for the day. “Does this shirt look that bad to you?”
Minho doesn’t answer your question, so you bombard him with more questions to get him on his nerves and say something. “Don’t I look nice? Isn’t this decent enough for me to stand beside you? Does this not fit your standards?”
Minho presses his lips and asks. “Do you want me to put that shirt on you?”
His friends around you stopped and let out some oohs. You sighed. You knew this was a bad idea.
“Change,” Minho moves his head toward the comfort room, “I’ll be waiting.”
You came out with a t-shirt with a large heart in the center. It has additional details like stitches, making the heart look like it was sewn. This shirt, in particular, is not your style, but this would suffice. “Do I look better now?”
Minho takes off his sweater and reveals a matching shirt. Oh, so that’s what he’s aiming for today. Couple t-shirts, cute, I guess? Impressed enough, you smiled at him. He smiles and gives you his hand, silently asking you to hold it with yours.
Walking around, hands tied still, with his friends, you saw Ara and her friend walking towards you. Now, this made more sense. The couple t-shirts were your first stunt to make Ara jealous.
“Didn’t work, Minho. It looks like Ara’s not affected by it,” you hear Seungmin behind you.
“That’s fine. It’s still the first,” Minho stops, leaving the rest of the group to stop. “I’ll leave it here. I’ll take them somewhere. You guys can do your own thing now.”
“Good luck, bro,” Jisung says, offering Minho a fistbump. He looks at you and whispers, “You can do it. He’s tolerable enough without us too.”
“I heard that!” Minho attempts to pinch Jisung. Hearing a loud screech from Jisung, you step away from the small scene. Jisung was pulled by Changbin, dragging him away from both of you.
Once Jisung is out of the picture, Minho faces you. He doesn’t have any idea where to take you since he only thought of the couple t-shirts to show it off to his ex. A part of him feels bad about dragging you into this short stunt.
“I know where to take you.”
In the sports building, obviously. You both bought some taho on the way, though. More like, Minho paid for both of your taho, which was surprising.
“You know how to play table tennis?” He asks as he drags you to a room.
“Nope, I hope you wouldn’t judge,” you tell him, trying to grip the paddle properly.
Minho was going to comment about it, but he stopped himself right away and understood you. “All good. That’s fine with me. I can teach you.”
It felt like your eyes were sparkling out of wonder. You immediately look at Minho and ask, “Really? You’re willing to?”
He genuinely smiles at you and answers, “Yeah, I’m willing. No worries, I think you’ll get the hang of this right away.”
“Which is easier, table tennis or volleyball?” You hand him the paddle in your hand. “You’re pretty good with anything at this point.”
Minho felt his body tense on the spot. That was the first time you said something nice to him. He’s used to bickering with you. Were you serious about this too? It seemed like you were being nice to him for real this time.
He knows you’re a good person. This whole enemy and competitor thing happened between you, resulting in you excluding him from your people-to-be-nice-with list. He has seen you with other people, and you’re usually like how you behaved just a while ago.
He’s glad enough that you could let your guard down around him for once. Maybe he’ll treasure this even if it was too early. He knows you’ll be back to arguing soon.
“Uh, it depends, really. I’m more used to volleyball, though. I just play table tennis for fun since I hang around here in the sports building quite a lot,” he awkwardly gets the paddle from your hand. With a scratch on his head, he reminds himself of his manners. “Thanks, though. I’m not an expert at everything. I just like trying out new things.”
“We must be the same, then!” You hold the ball, playing it with your hand. “You know, I grew up people saying I’m smart at everything,” you look at him.
Minho agrees. He notices that you’re brilliant about a lot of things. You’re a dean’s lister like him. Sometimes, he thinks you’re one of the best out there. He just doesn’t confess about that. “You in computer science say a lot about that. You’re intelligent.”
You laugh, memories flooding back in your head when you hear Minho mention your degree. “Did you know how stupid I felt when I failed my first programming course? Maybe I blame my professor for that. But when I discovered I got a failing grade, I asked myself for days if computer science was for me.”
Snorting, you shake your head. “As expected, I had to take it the next semester, and there we go! I did very well! I passed, and I enjoyed programming. And yeah, I got the same score as you on our machine project in discrete mathematics.” You hand him the ball. You felt a little better that you brought that out now. Your friends never understood how hard it was for you since they’re not in the same degree as you.
“I realized I’ll do great if I have to work my ass off twice as much as I usually do. It sucks, but it’s fulfilling to know that I’m doing fine.” You look at Minho. “I’m still surprised that I’m still a part of the dean’s list. The last time I heard, I almost slipped off the list.”
“I’m not good at consoling, _____, but I know you’re doing great, whether you fail, pass, or get on the list.” You hear Minho mutter your name, “I know it was hard for you. You said all of it. But I hope you don’t use it to bring yourself down.”
Minho gently places the paddle on the table and gets the ball from your palm. He faces you, leaning on his side on the table. “You’re outstanding. Don’t think that you’re not that good compared to me. I also went through a lot to get into that volleyball team. All of us really have to deal with rough shit before getting up there.”
You chuckle. “You’re right, sorry. I made it sound like it’s all about me—”
“No worries, I totally get you anyway,” he pats your back and smirks. “I know it feels nice to dump your problems sometimes.”
Gasping, you lightly push him. You get to hear his laugh. “I did not intend to dump all of it, Lee! I said I’m sorry already!”
You see Minho change his behavior, returning to his usual, insufferable self. He blinks multiple times, fixes his shirt, gets the paddle again, and playfully waves it on your face. “Shall we?”
You nod. Minho nods back and walks to your back. He gets your hand from behind and helps you grip the paddle properly. “You can hold the paddle like that. Don’t hold it like you’re going to murder somebody.”
“Does it look like I can murder you with this paddle, Minho?” You look at him, raising your eyebrows.
He grips your hand tightly, making you groan. “Yes, I know you can, which is why I’m teaching you the right way how to hold it.”
Minho’s aware of the presence of Ara in the room. It was why his demeanor changed right away. “She’s there again, by the way. Let’s look decent for a bit.”
“Yes, sir, on it.” You look at your hand with the paddle. It feels weird because it’s your first time playing this sport. Minho lets go of you confusingly and walks away.
Minho returns to your side with the other paddle and a ball. As Minho explains how to serve the ball, you focus on Ara. You hope that she’ll see this whole thing.
“Are you even listening?”
You look back at him, his face filled with annoyance, “Yes—well, no. Ara saw us!” You see Ara and her friends leaving suddenly, “And now, she’s gone. Why is she leaving right away every time we're together?”
He sighs. “She might’ve seen how dramatic you are every time you’re with me. It’s great.”
Before you get to defend yourself, you see Minho leaving you as well. “Dang, Minho’s right. It must be a me problem.” You get your things and chase Minho. “Don’t leave me, Lee! What the hell? You brought me here, and you’re just going to get out of here on your own?”
You tried to find Minho, but he’s really gone. Slowly walking through the tiny sidewalk, you attempt to see if Minho’s still nearby. And as expected, he’s nowhere to be seen.
Mindlessly walking, you plug in your earphones and listen to music on your way home. The music was a great way to make your life less boring. Your life has been full of adventures; the music made it more entertaining. Who knew getting a fake boyfriend was a part of your story, anyway? It could’ve been more. You get to enjoy your non-curricular activities, like being in organizations. Unfortunately, you temporarily abandoned your book club for this relationship. You could’ve recommended books to first-year students! You could’ve exchanged books with your friends and read them overnight!
You move the papers and folders under your arm to check the time on your phone, 7:05 PM. Great, you’ll have less time to review for your exams later. You could’ve gotten a tricycle ride to get home quicker, but the terminal’s a few minutes from where you are. Groaning, you carelessly walk and grumble over your cravings for pancit canton—the chilimansi one, to be specific.
The louder you talked to yourself about how desperate you were to get home and get things done, the more people behind you knew what to do.
You shrieked at the sudden noise coming from your back. Everything was so fast; you didn’t know a bunch of those mean and nasty students honked their car and almost ran it over you intentionally, dropping all of your things out of shock.
Several kids shouted from the car, “Sorry!” And all of them laughed. If only they were out of the vehicle, you could’ve charged them and punched all of their faces. That would be no regret, even if you were never the type to fight people. They deserve it for being assholes.
Bending down, you try to chase for the papers, lightly flying above the road. They almost crashed a human being and drove recklessly. Why are there no police officers here?
“Didn’t those people skip GMRC or homeroom classes when they were young?”
You have no idea who that was, but you agree. That must be a stranger passing by, not caring about what happened to you. “Yeah, they probably skipped. Not surprised, though. There’ll always be people like them.”
You heard some sounds nearby while picking up all of your notes. Unexpectedly, you see a person getting your papers on the sidewalk across from you. Was this guy the one who just talked to you?
“You’re right. But that doesn’t mean you’ll let them roam around like that. Here you go.” The person hands you the rest of the papers you couldn’t catch earlier. After thanking him. He introduces himself to you, “I’m Hyunjin.”
You have never heard his name yet. You’re acquainted with many students because of connections, but you probably haven’t met this one. It’s not wrong to meet a new person. Meeting a new friend after an unexpected accident like this was funny enough to think that you must be friends with Hyunjin. “Hey, Hyunjin. I’m _____. Nice to meet you in this way,” you chuckled.
He’s a transferee, perhaps?
He grins, “Oh, no worries. I have nothing to do, and I’m also on my way home, anyway. Is your place nearby?”
When Hyunjin saw your mouth fall open and rock your feet in place, he knew you still had a long way to go. “Want to grab some dinner first? Let’s eat pares, my treat.”
None of you know that those students who sped past you were watching nearby. Unfortunately, they have a plan against you.

Are you really up for volleyball class this early? No.
This sport shouldn’t sound complicated since you’ve played this before in high school. Frankly, you’re not the worst player out there. You could be very useful for an actual volleyball team, according to several varsity team members who were your classmates.
Have you told your boyfriend who excels in this specific sport? No.
You’re nothing compared to him in volleyball, you just know. If you mention this to him, he might ask you to play with him on the spot, and you know it’ll end up in the loser treating the winner. That’s how he competes with his teammates in training, according to Felix. You don’t want to go home physically exhausted and suffering financially.
Well, you’re a little rusty in volleyball since it has been years since you properly played this. So, you might need extra warm-ups and practices for this friend.
Setting the ball for a few rounds now, you wouldn’t say you’re that bad for starters. You’re underestimating yourself. This progress is pretty good for someone who’s a newbie or needs a refresher. Okay, maybe, you can brag about this to Minho a little bit.
It was fun and all, until someone threw the ball in a different direction—directly on your head. Why is existing more challenging now when you got Minho with you? Peace is non-existent in your fate.
“How ambitious of you!”
Automatically falling into a face of confusion, your search for the voice leads to a familiar face—that girl in the car a few nights ago.
Let’s be honest. Self-defense is your biggest weakness. You never taught yourself to fight for yourself in situations as immediately intense as this, since you always want no harm. If this was a verbal argument, maybe you still had the guts to fight back. But this involves physical damage.
Before you get to fend for yourself, the girl and the rest of the group throw all the volleyballs at you, leaving you a pained mess on the floor. This is you against a group. You immediately knew you’d lose in this battle. Not only were you thrown with actual objects, but they also threw unnecessary words at you.
“You’re such a gold digger!”
“You’re from nowhere! How did you get them?”
“Two-timer, are we getting a little flirty?”
When you knew this was about Minho and Hyunjin (who should be innocent in this case), you had to get out of here. You’re assuming their next move will harass you with their own hands based on how they move. Groaning, you get up and grab your bags from the bleachers.
One of them shouts, “Where do you think you’re going?”
You look behind and see the girl chase you until you leave the building. She stops before heading back inside. “Wake up, _____! You and Minho are not compatible!”
Same place, same people. The same road where nothing was by your side. The same street where you were so helpless. All you wanted was the life you had a week ago. How did you get into this torturous cycle of people getting jealous of bagging one of the biggest stars of the university?
That was pure evil. Why are they this mean towards you? Maybe all you want is to go back to your dorm, sulk and cry with some ice cream. Hopefully, the world will be better one tear at a time.
Another honking sound surprised you, reminding you of last night's turn of events. Irritated by the sound, you asked nobody and continued walking, “Why do drivers like to surprise people with that?”
The car behind you stops. “And that’s because I’m here to really surprise you with—wait, _____, are you crying?”
Minho gets out of the car and chases you to greet you with a hug. “What happened?”
Melting into his embrace, you hummed on his chest, sobbing more than before. This is officially your first time breaking down in front of him, and it’s all because of him. “Nothing really. Can you just take me to my dorm and—”
Minho smoothly rubs your back, “Don’t hide it from me. I know this is all pretend, but don’t be afraid to share it with me if you like. I’m all ears, _____.”
That might’ve made you cry even more. Why is he so nice again? You know he’ll switch back to his usual self later on. Are you falling for this trap? Are you sure he is genuinely willing to listen to your rant about jealous students? Will that be a sensible conversation with him?
“It will sound so petty, Minho. This is nothing I’m telling you—”
He gently holds your head, ensuring you keep eye contact with him. “_____, let’s be serious here. Is it petty if you’re a crying mess like this?”
Shaking your head, you mumble no multiple times, bringing you back to tears. Minho brings you back to his arms, crossing them around you in the right fit, not too tight and not too loose. His scent was so comforting—lavender and baby powder. He smelled so pure and clean. “Do you still want to return to your dorm?” He asked you softly, hearing a small yes as an answer.
What are you doing to him? Barely two weeks into this fake relationship, and he’s willing enough to soften his heart already. He will stick with you, making sure that you did the stunts, and you got to treat each other as actual significant others. But wasn’t he like this with Ara, too? Didn’t he open up to her right away? Maybe he’ll just see what’s going to happen next. Give you both a few more weeks before facing the growing tingling feeling on his chest. You’re not that bad after all; indeed, you’re better than you seem. He’s up with making you his actual friend. He’s aware that he’s guarding his heart sometimes, knowing he grows attachments immediately. Maybe after a few more stunts, he’ll get Ara back and get to know you more.
Minho reaches for your hand on the side, pulling you to the car. “I should’ve stayed by your side on our last visit to the sports building. I’m really sorry.”
He didn’t break his promise of staying by your side until that night. Maybe it was because of the feeling that he couldn’t do the stunt with you properly, or he wasn’t in the right mind. When he left you in the sports building, he thought you were behind him all this time until when he got into his car. He even tried to find you in the building, going through the floor by floor, until you messaged you were back in your dorm already, stomach full. Out of pure concern, he was relieved that you were safe. He knows that both his and your parents will kill him if he loses you.
And now, he arrived slightly late. He could’ve prevented the still-unknown problem that left you gripping his shirt tightly and sobbing heavily on his shoulder. Better late than never, he thought. He knows how to deal with this. He lost Ara somewhere when they were together. Ara’s phone was dead, and Minho searched for her from night until the day. In the end, he got scolded by Ara’s father in front of their house. He doesn’t want that to happen to anybody again, and he hated he left someone—you—after that.
“It’s fine, Minho. You don’t have to apologize. I should have protected myself,” you told him, getting into the passenger seat of his car and buckling your seatbelt.
After Minho got into the car again and started the engine, he curiously asked, “What happened there? Who are they to make you cry a river like that?”
“Why did you cry?” Minho glances at you, steering the car. “I just want to know so I can help you somehow. I don’t want to see your puffy face cry that much.”
Sighing, you lean back in your seat. Do you really have to tell Minho now? You’d rather keep this one. You don’t want him teasing you all over again. “You have to ask me right now?”
“Yeah, well, if it’s fine with you,” he eyes the car's rear mirror, “because if you’re not ready to tell me, I can wait.”
You thank the heavens that he has patience within him. Maybe you can do it once you’re back in your dorm? Saying it here and now might be a little overwhelming, for you are still recovering from whatever happened earlier. If you recall all of it, you might burst into tears just to explain it to Minho for the nth time.
When you arrive at your building, you bring Minho to your dorm room when you come to your building. No one’s in your place. Yeji probably hung out with some of her friends today. “Home, sweet home, I guess?”
On the left, a kitchen countertop matches the color of the walls, white. The bathroom’s already on the right, with a door open, displaying the simple sink and mirror. And further back to the dorm are your beds and study spaces. The room isn’t that cramped for everything you need, luckily. Your beds were on one side, and your tables and shelves were across them.
The first thing you did after closing the door was drop your lumpiang togue on your table. Minho was compassionate enough once again to treat you to some food.
He scans the whole market for anything you can eat quickly. Glancing at you, he asks, “You like lumpiang togue?”
Did he just read your mind? How did he know your love for lumpiang togue?
“Yeah, I like them,” you softly answer, fiddling the sleeves of your white t-shirt, which you wore earlier this morning for volleyball class. You haven’t changed your attire, also still wearing your rubber shoes and navy jogging pants.
Minho sighs. “Great, that’s what I can afford for now. I left the rest of my money in my place.” He finds some bills in his pockets. He was planning to take you to his dorm since Seungmin visited his family. But the whole you-crying-on-the-streets happened, so he had a change of plan, making you feel better. Seriously, it’s not his strength, but he’s willing to try.
You hold his wrist, stopping him from reaching for any money, “I can pay. I have some money with me.” Minho stiffens, and you try to get your wallet from your backpack, mumbling, “You probably brought anything barely to buy here. I’ll just take it from here.”
He was persistent in treating you today. He had to do it. He wanted to do it. Shaking his head, he’s now the one who’ll reach for your wrist. “No, _____. I’ll pay. You can keep your money.”
Looking at his face, you feel hesitant to let this slide. You think it’s because of the lack of money in his pockets, and he’s really trying hard to be the perfect (fake) boyfriend he is. But the problem is that you only hear some clinking sound from his pockets, implying that he probably has mostly coins. And he might just fight you back if you don’t surrender. Maybe he’s really striving to treat you again.
You clear your throat. “Yeah, sure, go on. If you really want to, then. I’ll just do it the next time we eat outside.”
Perhaps Minho only heard the last few words. I’ll just do it the next time we eat outside. Are you implying that you guys will go out again for food? With this setup you have, Minho was not sure if there’ll be a next time for everything. It’s unclear to assume how long you will continue this. Even if it has been a week, Ara could take him back tomorrow or the other day.
This could be the last time you can eat together. Why did he feel a little heartbroken over this thought? Is it because he got to see more of your softer side? Is it because of this little friendship you were progressively growing that is still as small as a seed? Maybe he wasn’t ready to go back to the usual bickering both of you do. He genuinely enjoyed your fun and calmer side. In the first few days, you got to go around the campus hand in hand. It was initially awkward. Both of your hands were sweating. But he enjoyed your presence, regardless. You got to treat each other decently in classes, picking each other immediately as partners in some projects. Why is he overthinking about you too many times now? He’ll miss this. It’s been a week, and he might’ve not regretted picking you. It could’ve been worse if he had got someone senselessly crazy over him.
On your side, though, you’re taking this whole fake relationship lightly. Yes, you got to see an angelic Minho with a halo on his head rather than those red horns. You’ve seen his side of being intelligent and humble. From your time together working on some papers, you’ve seen how hardworking he is. Well, he is hardworking, but his tremendous pride overshadows it. Working with him wasn’t so bad. If you ever get to pick a partner after this fake relationship, you might genuinely pick him over some of your friends. You appreciated his taste on the first few dates you had. He wasn’t the fancy type, even if he looked like a person who thought highly of himself. Your time in the park wasn’t so bad. You enjoyed the messy conversation with some ice cream. You also enjoyed your time in the mall. He was the type to window shop than splurge. You were going to tease him about being broke, but he was letting his guard down for a few minutes, so you appreciated the small moment of peace between the two of you.
Nodding, he steps forward to buy on the stall in front of you.
Leaning your back on the table beside him, you ask, “Have anything to say about my place?” Deep inside, you know he will lightly tease you about your dorm. It’s been looking too dull, considering the only prominent color: white. You could visit some of your friend’s places, and their homes and rooms were full of color. You got to see Dahyun’s place, and her room’s walls painted a beautiful shade of sky blue. Chaeyoung’s dorm has an incredible combination of brown and black, giving her space a vintage vibe that suits her style. Some of your other classmates’ rooms had rooms in bright colors like pink, violet, or dandelion, which you admit are very pleasing colors. “Does it look too boring? I was trying to convince Yeji to change this whole place again. White’s not clicking with me anymore.”
Minho looked around once again. He displays an unreadable expression, which makes you feel uncertain. “I guess it is boring. I knew it.” Minho waves his hands. “No! I actually like it. It feels very peaceful,” he sighs. “I think it shows a lot about who you are.”
“So you’re telling me I’m boring?”
Groaning, he explains to you once again. “It’s a nice color for a dorm. It’s not boring. You’re very pure and sincere, like the color white. Even if we spat the most unnecessary words at each other, you’re pretty honest and genuine in what you say. I don’t mean this badly, but you’re sensitive. Sensitive in a way that you easily pull yourself into emotions, you feel quite a lot, from what I noticed. You’re not that numb, and I like it. White’s not that blank in my own eyes.”
That was… wonderful. Minho got a point once again. He’s not like you, who quickly rambles a lot. He makes sure he says everything with his actual intentions straightforwardly. You liked how he mentioned your bickering; it made you laugh for the first time in a while. It was nice to hear that from Minho for another time. “Thanks, maybe the color’s not so bad after all. I appreciate the words.”
“You’re getting shy, aren’t you?” You pulled out your handkerchief from your pocket and tossed it to his face. “Shut up! I don’t get those kinds of words a lot. Being sensitive is a bad thing for some, but I appreciate how you made it sound nice—something in your voice that told me in my head that it’s alright to feel things with so much impact,” you grin, “so, don’t be surprised that I’ll cry over something again in the next few days. We still have the articulation paper! We should get it done! I’ll cry for real if we procrastinate it!”
Minho laughs. “Want to start it tomorrow? After my training in the morning?” It took you a few seconds to answer him because… he laughed! That was a very genuine laugh, and it sounded so lovely. It suits him so much. If only you heard that every day, that’d be better than the fuss both of you make every time. When he scratches his head nervously, you answer, “I’m not that busy for the next few days, so I’m up for that! Maybe I can take you out for coffee if you’re into that?”
You have no idea how Minho loved the word coffee. He drinks coffee every day, almost like his water, so he might’ve been the happiest person ever when he heard that you’d treat his coffee. “I am in love with coffee, so you don’t have to ask, _____,” he smiles. “Great, now that we’ll have coffee tomorrow, I’m sure we’ll finish our paper just fine. Trust me.”

The next few days with Minho were relaxing, much to your surprise. You joined each other’s agendas, including Minho’s training sessions for the incoming volleyball championships. You opened up to him about what happened to you in the sports building, resulting in him getting outrageous on the spur of the moment.
Minho tries to ask calmly after taking a sip of his beloved coffee, “Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?” He knew you wanted to recover from what happened emotionally, but he didn’t think you had to recover from that, right?
“I wanted to forget about it for a while, Minho. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my time feeling miserable because of your fans crossing the line,” you answer, taking a bite of Minho’s cheesecake.
Before getting another bite, Minho reaches for your hand, removing the fork. He points the utensil at you, “_____, you just said they crossed the line. Don’t you think you should’ve told me right away still, and we could’ve done something about it?”
“I’m too nice to report it to the office, Minho,” your other hand reaches for his. “I know it’s a problem, but I’m seriously going to let this go. I know I cried over it, but this is not the worst thing I cried over. Maybe knocking some sense to themselves will make them more realistic that you’re not going to pick them.”
Snorting, he laughs and leans back in his seat. “Did you think I’m going to pick them over you?” He was misinterpreting it! You didn’t mean it that way. “Hey! You wouldn’t pick them in general because of how they acted, right? They were violent. Do you want a significant other like that?”
You pulled your hands away from him and stood from your seat. “You—” He cuts you off by holding your hands again, rushing over to the seat beside you, and gently pushing you back on your chair. “Get off of me! You’re twisting my words again!” All he did in response was laugh and hold you loosely. At least he didn’t grip your hands that tight.
“I get you. I get you. Don’t worry! I’m teasing you with good intentions!” He continues to laugh and move his things near you, returning to your side. “Sorry, really, but I understood what you meant. I would rather not have somebody who attacks people with volleyballs.”
Speaking of volleyballs, he remembered one of the things you said while you recalled the whole incident to him. “You said you were setting the volleyball? Didn’t you guys just start learning volleyball? How could you set the ball on your own properly without anybody monitoring? You could’ve squished your head with the volleyball—”
You shushed him, whispering a secret you thought you’d keep from him. “I know how volleyball works, okay? Unlike my other classmates who had no idea how to receive a volleyball, I’ve done it before. But it doesn’t mean I am a professional at it!”
He’d seen you stick your face with books and papers. But you… as an athlete? That’s something new. He never saw you as a type to engage with sports. “And you said I was good at many things, huh? You can also play volleyball! Why don’t you try out for the team too? I know you’ll do great there too!”
Slumping on your seat, you shudder. Minho’s convincing you with something good now, and it doesn’t fit your plans well. “Never saw myself dedicating my life to sports. Even if I say I’m not that bad, I don’t have any plan to spend a lot of time training.”
“I bet you can serve the ball very well like me. Your hand’s so heavy every time you push my head away—okay, I’ll stop!” Minho playfully glares at you. You did push his head away again. Laughing, you tell him, “Stop being so cocky, MVP! We all know you’re good with the sport!” Minho gasps, placing his hand on his chest. “Is _____ really acknowledging my skill in volleyball? That’s such an honor!” He repeatedly bows to you, “Thank you very much, _____. I value your kind words!”
Chuckling, you stop him from bowing, holding onto his built body, “Yeah, whatever, Lee. I just watched you train earlier this morning. You were pretty good.”
And now, you’re back to where it all began, the sports building. You’re facing the same people who had the guts to hurt you. The news of this group expressing their jealousy through volleyballs didn’t go well for Minho’s friends. They had them kneeling on the ground. A crowd surrounded you, implying that many knew about what happened.
Minho is beside you, snaking his arm around yours. “Do you have anything to say to _____?”
Minho and his friends set this whole thing up? Did they plan this right after you told him what happened?
“None of you are answering,” Changbin shouts, “Say something!” Jisung joins, playing with a volleyball in his hand and giving another to Changbin, “Quickly! Say sorry!”
Oh, these guys are taking it seriously. You did not know this duo could be louder than they could have ever been, and it scares you a little. They’ve been happy and fun most of the time. Their faces scream terror.
The group mumbled sorry a few times, making Minho puzzled at how quiet and short they apologized. “Doesn’t sound sincere to me, right, boys?” His friends agreed, telling the kneeled they should apologize genuinely.
Changbin and Jisung handed the volleyballs to Minho and passed them to you. “Nobody should hurt the person I love.”
Some of the boys, specifically Chan, Felix, and Jeongin, squealed loudly, getting the attention of Ara nearby. Ara, unfortunately, heard all of it since all the boys’ voices were echoing in the room. She steps into the crowd and watches the whole scene. You, on the other hand, tried to control your feelings. If Minho said that on a typical day, you’d push his head away like you always do. He said this in front of people, many people. You can’t screw the stunt up.
“Hit them on the face, _____!”
“Go _____!”
And they were all chanting your name. Did you want revenge? No. Do you feel these people should learn their lesson by publicly embarrassing them? No. Do they deserve to get harmed the same way as you did? No. You were truly too nice to treat them like this. Even if you were like royalty to Minho and his friends, you’d rather stay back and let things flow like how they’re supposed to. It already happened, and you’d rather keep things that way. You’re sure you don’t want them to go home with bruises. Shaming them wasn’t the way to go for you.
The group assumed you would hit them, so they covered their heads with their arms and whimpered. Minho’s friends still chanted your name to support the payback until you dropped the volleyballs from your hands. Smiling, you didn’t give in and got out of the room by pulling Minho away to the entrance of the building. Minho holds your hand after closing the door for you.
He stops you from walking down the building’s steps. “You really are too nice for this, _____. I wanted to do something in return for what happened to you.”
Lightly removing his hand from your arms, you roll your eyes. “You mean to bring them back there with volleyballs again for vengeance? Of course not, Minho. It’s so wrong to hit them.” Proceeding with your short trip to his car, Minho follows you behind, not noticing your rolling eyes. “Yeah, keep that bad boy facade. That doesn’t work for me. We’re in a relationship in this deal. If I’m not tolerating violence, then so are you. Let them go, yeah?”
You completely forgot that Minho has the intimidating side that everybody fears. Nobody knows about it except those who’ve seen him retaliate. With those large hands and muscled arms, you knew he could throw a big punch. You’ve seen it. And you know he’s willing to do it if he needs it. Frankly, his throwing punches might be a little attractive to you—whoops.
“Yes, I’ll stop! I’ll stop for you!” Minho raises both arms to his sides, giving in to your request. He knows you mean well, and maybe he needs a little of a change. For the past few days, he hasn’t told you about this yet, but he felt guilty over his teasing of you and all the little competition he started between you two. He began to truly appreciate you, acknowledging that he now considers you his friend, not this weird enemy-slash-competitor like you were before. When his friends asked about you, he was comfortable enough to mention you without cringing by simply thinking about you as he did back then. Minho cared for your thoughts and feelings, only occasionally inserting the teasing when he felt he needed it, which is still all the time, minus the intention of making you push his head away. He doesn’t want to get headaches anymore.
You stay still, the tips of your fingers on his car’s door handle. Will Minho truly stop for you? Well, he has been honest with you for the whole time in this deal. Maybe he felt how uncertain you were about what you could’ve done to the group earlier? If yes, thank the heavens he did; you seriously didn’t want to hurt anybody. “Alright, then. Let’s just go somewhere else.”
“How about the seaside near the mall in the other city?” You blinked after he delicately pulled your hand once again from the door handle. All the touches that happened ruined you, making you feel butterflies every time. The hand-holding, too, was making you flustered every time now. Is it because you brought down the walls against each other now? Were you getting too comfortable about his affections? He might’ve done this to others without making them flustered.
Minho rose his brows at how unresponsive you were to his touch. He assumed you didn’t get that much sleep before fetching you earlier this morning. After all, you volunteered to proofread your paper before emailing it to your professor. Both of you were on a video call the whole night. Minho was sweet enough to watch you proofread the articulation paper as impressive as you two made. Waving his hand in front of your face, he expressed his confusion about your lack of action. “You good? Did you get to sleep well last night? You were staring at the ground.”
Shaking your head, you answer him right after you get out of your trance. “Yes, I’m fine. Yeah, maybe. I still got the sleep, but it wasn’t the best, to be honest.” You finally got into the car after Minho opened the door for you.
You yell through the window as Minho goes to the driver’s seat. “The seaside’s an excellent choice, by the way!” Minho smiles, satisfied with the idea he just made. He thought of taking you there for some fresh air after a lot of stress and work over the last few days. Dedicatedly working with you day and night made Minho realize how far you’re willing to go just to pass. No, you’re not doing everything just to pass; you wholeheartedly wanted to excel, and that’s what he liked about you. He remembers how you will not let his outline for the paper slide.
“Minho, we have to make this paper detailed. Based on your outline, our paper’s going to be vague. We wouldn’t be able to dig deep into our topic.” You underlined some parts in the outline he attempted to create. “If we have the chance to explain further, then take it. Let’s not take this lightly. The paper is a part of our major requirements for the class.”
Minho didn’t care about this class much since his degree’s technicalities weren’t there. There was no math and programming, so he cared little about his work. Not until you became his partner for this paper. Did he guess he’ll take this more seriously now that you’re with him?
He mumbled under his breath. “Felix wasn’t kidding when you take every requirement seriously.” You glance up at him, raising your eyebrow. “Felix told you? We were group mates in another class.”
Nodding, he peeks at the pad of paper you were writing on. He meekly answers, “Felix told me you were the leader, and he thought the position fits you. He told me you were ‘artistic’-ish since you always have many ideas in your head.”
“Seems like Felix dropped many things about me to you.” You chuckle. “Was that why you knew much about me before we got into this fake relationship?”
Since Felix is a good friend, you didn’t expect him to talk about you to Minho. Although, you didn’t expect that he’ll get into detail like that since both of you bond together during classes only. “You got to use them against me.” You mumbled, playfully rolling your eyes. “Thanks for all of the teasing, by the way. I still remember how you embarrassed me about how I messed up my report to my prof last year.”
Minho was going to apologize already since it was the right timing, but you cut him off showing what you wrote on his face. Not the right timing. “Here! I made the outline you made more specific! What do you think? Do you think our paper could be good with this flow?” He grabbed the paper and distanced it from him a little, squinting his eyes.
The outline you made was jaw-dropping for him. He was astounded by how comprehensive your outline was. He wasn’t in the right mind to create a good articulation paper right now with this hell of a topic, so it amazed him how you could plan the critical points necessary for the paper. “You do not know how good this is, _____. This is great!”
In Minho’s head, he declares that you’re one of the most intelligent group mates he has ever encountered. And he found you interesting at that moment—how was your mind this brilliant? Papers like this take him days. It’s not his field of interest, so it consumes a lot of his time. “I don’t even do outlines. This one’s thorough and very impressive. You even pointed out things here that I never thought of!” He uses his ballpen to show them to you, laughing out of wonder. “This is not even the paper, yet you’re surprising me for real.”
“Great! We’ll be on the road for a long time, so buckle up! We’re going to have a nice time!” Minho bashfully grins. That was so adorable. You cannot help but poke his cheek for that. There was something about the glint in his eyes and the bottomless energy spewing out of him. This is a different Minho, a very joyful one, to be exact. When you notice Minho’s ears turn red, you giggle, reaching for his cheek again to pinch. “Your ears are so red! So adorable!”
Minho scratches his head and moves it away, you out of his sight. His hand climbs up to his face, feeling the heat on his face. Smiling, he tries to keep the tension down. “Shut up. I’m just a little excited.” Laughing, you lightly push his shoulder. “And it’s adorable, Minho. I don’t see you get excited quite a lot.”
Grumbling, he pushes your head away, similar to what you usually do to him. With shouts of protest coming from your mouth, he shouts back nonsense to tease your way of resisting. “Why don’t you take a nap first, _____? We have around an hour to go before we arrive at the seaside. If traffic persists, maybe another hour stuck on the road.”
You surrender by slumping your shoulders. “That wouldn’t be so bad, I guess.” Minho smirks and slowly pushes your head to the window. “You spent the whole night worrying about our paper. Take a nap, please. Take this as a little favor from me.” Minho waves his hand up and down as a sign to close your eyes. You whine. “I’m doing a favor right now. Ask me one at a time,” you move around on your seat, getting comfortable, “but I might take that little one. I’ll sleep for a bit.”
He waits for you to settle down and close your eyes before turning the engine on and starting the trip. When he hears your tiny snores, he unknowingly pats your head, letting out a satisfied sigh from his lips. Minho’s absolutely glad that you gave yourself time to rest. You're unstoppable—he learned something new about your work ethic over the past few days. While working on your paper and other requirements, Minho saw you sit endlessly, writing, typing, reading, and doing everything you could have done to complete the demands. Including no sleep, you barely let your eyes close completely like you always do until Minho ensures you get enough rest. Minho couldn’t believe that you were still so lively despite your normality of barely sleeping. Pretty much like Chan, he thinks. He thought only Chan was capable of doing that.
He takes this as an exchange for your acceptance of this deal he made with you. He thought that helping you in your routine while staying by his side to have you as his boyfriend was a great way to get the chemistry needed for a couple and that heart of yours (to be your friend, obviously). And so far, his plan is working. You’ve been getting comfortable with him, and he’s happy to see you no longer see him as this horrendous human being who’ll ruin your week every time. Plus, his group chat with his friends is flooding his notifications that Ara saw the occasion earlier in the sports building.
jisung: seungmin said ara was staring at both of you earlier!
jisung: it should be working!!!!
felix: i got to see it! she has the usual sad face lol
chan: are you sure you saw her face…?
changbin: you were too busy squealing over minho and _____
felix: JHSFDADJ STOP YOU TWO???
seungmin: LMAOOO felix, you probably forgot that they’re not a real couple, right?
felix: WELL, they *are* a real couple right now so…
felix: and they’re getting along very well!!! have you seen them the other day?
chan: oh, when you guys were talking about the next machine project?
felix: YEAH, the three of us were initially discussing it until they argued what type of loops they were going to use in the program lol
seungmin: so that’s how you define “they’re getting along very well” then?
minho: for the record, it was a peaceful argument, kim seungmin.
seungmin: oh HE’S ALIVE
minho: and we’re not cheating btw, i know talking about the project to others is not allowed lmao we’re just talking about which loop truly fits the mechanics
minho: _____ kept on pushing the exit-controlled loop, but i pointed them out the program should check the conditions first before starting the loop
seungmin: and i barely understand what he’s talking about again
minho: turns out, i misinterpreted the mechanics, and their point really made sense
seungmin: thanks for the tmi bro
felix: WAIT REALLY? i used an entry-controlled loop all this time :’>
felix: so i have to change tons of things in the source code then… DAMMIT
chan: hi minho, where did _____ take you?
minho: we’re leaving
minho: taking them somewhere
minho: and i’m not going to tell any of you where we’re going because i’m going to drive already
minho: goodbye!
jeongin: I JUST CAME BACK FROM MY CLASS
jeongin: MINHO DON’T LEAVE US HANGING HERE
changbin: minho be gatekeeping _____ now what is this
jisung: can anybody run and follow minho’s car?
