The Free Design - Kije's Ouija (from Stars/Time/Bubbles/Love) Crazy lyrics and even crazier when it's delivered in that breezy sunshine vocal harmonizing they were known for. Way out, man! Just don't kick that dog is all I'm saying. We should have believed! :)

5/21/20:  It was 50 years ago... sometime in May 1970, The Free Design released the album ‘Stars/Time/Bubbles/Love.’  While no one bought it, just like their other records, the western NY vocal group has a pretty solid legacy, and this album may be it’s peak.  The opening track ‘Bubbles’ just lights up the room... I’m not even sure how to describe it... it’s very ‘early 70s’ in its sound, slightly jazzy, but definitely full of that so-called Sunshine Pop.  It’s probably the most well-known track, as it is found on their greatest so I’d heard it before.  The rest of the album is a treat as well, with similar sounding, but always structurally different, tracks like ‘Tomorrow Is the First Day of the Rest of My Life’ where the session musicians just fucking jam out and then it transforms into what could pass for an excellent Carpenters copy, but like much much better.  it’s not for everyone, but you can’t say it ain’t original.  And then the magical wordplay of ‘Kije’s Ouija’... currently my favorite song about a ouija BOOARD! as they sing it.  Only on the fourth song now of this album and I’m already in love with this shit... give ‘Butterflies are Free’ a listen... it definitely echoes their very first track ‘Kites are Fun’ but damn it’s excellent too... if you didn’t know, butterflies are free and so are you! So are we!!  How do turn such trash lyrics into something wonderful?  Don’t know... I’ll move on to one of the most obvious covers ever ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head’ but once again they make it they’re own.  I’ll stop here because if you aren’t going to like one song, you probably won’t like any of them.  Give ‘em a try!
