SZENTGRÓTI DÁVID - festőművész/painter

Gyerekként a bátyjával lepke- és szitakötő vadászatok bűvöletében töltötték a nyarakat, gyűjti a mindenféle rajzzal és festéssel kapcsolatos eszközöket, kedvenc étele a sóska főzelék, krumplival és tükörtojással, szereti felfedezni azokat a momentumokat egy évszakban, amik a még távol lévő következőt idézik, például az őszt egy júniusi napon.

As a child he spent summers with his older brother with hunting butterflies and dragonflies, he collects all sorts and kinds of tools related to drawing, painting, his favorite dish is sorrel stew with boiled potatoes and eggs sunny side up, he likes to discover moments in the seasons, those moments that resemble to upcoming one, like sensing autumn on a day in June.

Milyen típusú emlékek inspirálnak jobban: a jók vagy a rosszak?/What kind of memories inspire you the most: good or bad ones? Természetesen mindkettő. Ritkán esik meg azonban, hogy konkrét emlékekkel foglalkoznék, félő, hogy illusztratív irányba mozdulnak el a munkáim. Az emlékek inkább tudat alatt meghatározóak, nem képszerűen, hanem a többi érzékkel együtt - elvont elemekként merülnek fel, például egy kontraszt vagy mozdulat formájában.

Both, of course. But it is very rare that I deal with specific elements, my work would take on an illustrative direction I’m afraid. Memories are more determinative in the subconscious, unlike pictures but with alongside with all the other senses- they appear as abstract elements such as a contrast or movement.

Ha újjászülethetnél egy ma élő vagy már halott művész személyében, kit választanál?/If you could reincarnate as a living or dead artist, who would you choose to be? Nem szeretnék senki más lenni, de ha... Kíváncsi lennék, milyen lehetett a történelem előtti emberi közösségek, társadalmak művészének lenni. Szívesen nézném Rembrandt szemével az amszterdami alkonyatot. Vagy például egyik kedvenc festőm, Pierre Bonnard bőrébe bújnék, a Nabis-k társaságában biztos jól érezném magam.

I wouldn’t want to be anyone else… however, I am curious about what could the prehistoric human communities have looked like, what was the society like, and what was it like to be an artist. I would like to see the dawn in Amsterdam through Rembrandt’s eyes. Or I could be one of my favorite painters, Pierre Bonnard, I would for sure enjoy the company of the Nabis.

Hogyan lendülsz túl az időszakos alkotói válságon?/How do you overcome a temporary artistic crisis? Közös munkával. Kiszakadással az addigi munkamódszerből, rutinból. Például a művésztelepeken lehetőség van az addigi munkamódszer újra definiálására. A környezetváltozás , még ha a komfort érzet csökken is, érzékenyebbé tehet az új befogadására, a megszokott felülbírálatára.

Working together with someone. By breaking away from a working method, a routine. For example at the nursery for an artist, there is an opportunity to redefine a specific working method. The change of the environment, even if the comfort decreases, can make an artist be more open to take in the new things and to rewrite the old methods.

Kinek mutatod meg először a legújabb alkotásodat?/Who sees your work first? Műteremtársaimnak, barátaimnak vagy, aki éppen a műterembe téved. Nem rejtegetem vagy adagolom a munkáimat, gyakran félkész állapotban vagy folyamatában is megmutatom őket. Azonban a hozzászólásokat, pillanatnyi benyomásokat nem engedem komolyan hatni, mivel általában a befogadót tükrözik.

My fellow artist from the studio, my friends, or whoever drops by the studio. I don’t hide or dose my works, I often share the process or show half-ready works as well. Although, I won’t let any comments and momentary opinions affect me because they only reflect the receiver.

Mi a legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléked?/What is your favorite childhood memory? Némi gondolkodás után egyértelműen a lepke és szitakötő vadászatok, aminek bűvöletében töltöttük a nyarakat bátyámmal. Gerald Durell és David Attenborough munkásságának nyomában lázasan gyűjtöttük, keltettük, rendszereztük a színpompás lepkéket, rovarokat. Egy szender szárnyának, hernyójának rajzolata, egy szitakötő farkának alakja fontosabb volt, mint bármi. Később, festő szakos egyetemistaként, látva Csontváry lepkegyűjteményről festett tanulmányát, úgy éreztem rokonlélekre találtam.

After giving it some thought, the answer was obvious: the summers that I spent with my older brother hunting for butterflies and dragonflies. Following the works of Gerald Durell and David Attenborough we collected, hatched, systemized the colorful butterflies, insects. The patterns of the wings or the caterpillar of a hawk-moth, the shape of a tale of a dragonfly was more important than anything else. later when studying painting at university, I have seen Csontváry’s painted study of his butterfly collection and it made me feel like I have found a kindred spirit.

Mit érzel, amikor egy másik művész a tiédhez hasonló munkát készít?/What do you feel when a fellow artist creates something similar to your work? Zavarba ejtő érzés, de megerősíthet abban, hogy jó úton járok, ha más is fontosnak, érvényesnek tartja ugyanazt.

It’s an intimidating feeling, but it can also be encouraging that I am on the right path, if others also find my work important and valid.

Mit szeretnél, hogy miről emlékezzenek majd rád?/What would you like to be remembered by? Képes voltam fejlődni, jó értelemben változni. Megtartottam a szavam.

That I was able to develop and change in a good way. I kept my word.

Gyűjtesz valamit?/Are you collecting something? Mindenféle rajzzal és festéssel kapcsolatos eszközt. Saját félresikerült rajzaim, képeim, amik elöntik a lakást és más helyiségeinket. Könyveket. Főként szakmai könyveket.

All kinds of tools related to drawing and painting. My own fooley drawings, pictures that flood the apartment and other places and rooms of ours.

Kedvenc budapesti pillanat?/Favorite Budapest moment? Amikor céltalanul bolyonghatok, járhatok a város ismeretlen helyein.

When I can stroll around without a purpose, I can walk around the unknown places of town.

Mi volt a legnagyobb őrültség, amit eddig csináltál?/What was the craziest thing you have done so far? Akad néhány, de nem szívesen idézem fel őket.

There are a few but I wouldn’t want to remember them.

Van-e napi rutinod?/Do you have a daily routine? Az iskola és a gyerekek miatt elég korán kelek, és ha jó napom van már korán a műteremben kezdhetek. Itt mindig van mit ”helyrehozni” magam után, tehát a pakolás, teázgatás, tervezgetés teszi ki a nap első felét.

I get up relatively early because of school and my children, and if I am having a good day I have a good day I can start in my studio early. At the studio, I have always some organizing to do, so cleaning up, drinking tea and planning takes half of my day.

Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favorite object? A gyerekeimmel közösen készített dolgok.

Hogyan fogsz neki egy új munkának?/How do you get started on a new project? Hirtelen. Akkor, amikor már az előkészületektől megcsömörlöttem és valami másra vágyom. Neki sem állnék, ha minden részét megtervezném.

Abruptly. When I get tired of getting ready for a project and I want to do something else. I wouldn’t even get started on anything if I would plan out every bit of it.

Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a particular mood that makes creating and working easier for you? Amikor nincs otthon senki.

Sör vagy bor?/Beer or wine? Bor. Inkább száraz vörös, de a fehér borokat is szeretem. A családban többen is készítenek bort, nem is akármilyet. Apósom rendszeres résztvevője a helyi borversenyeknek.

Wine. I prefer red and dry but I also like white wine as well. A few people in my family make wine, and they are also good. My father in law is a regular participant at local wine competitions.

Kutya vagy macska?/Dog or cat? Macska. Feltalálja magát. Önállóan működik.

Cat. They can figure themselves out. They are independent.

Mit szeretnél kifejezni az alkotásaidon keresztül?/What would you like to express through your artwork? A változás és az állandóság felszabadult keverékét.

Milyen a stílusod?/What is your style like? Közvetlen, szertelen.

Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Túrázás, kirándulás a hegyekben.

Kedvenc város?/Favorite city? Machu Picchu. Magasan van. Remélem, eljutok egyszer oda.

Machu Picchu. It is high above. I hope I will go there someday.

Hol leszel 10 év múlva?/Where will you be in 10 years? Biztos, hogy a családom közelében, ezen kívül nem mondhatok semmi biztosat.

I am sure I will be somewhere close to my family, apart from that I cannot say anything for sure.

Kedvenc étel?/Favorite dish? Sóska főzelék, krumplival és tükörtojással. Kevés étel van, amit nem szeretek, elég gyakran főzök is a családnak. A sóska a gyerekkori nyarakat idézi, amiket a nagymamámnál töltöttem, aki mindig megkérdezte, mit kérek.

Sorrel stew with boiled potatoes and eggs sunny side up. There are a very few dishes I don’t like, I also cook often for my family. Sorrel reminds me of my childhood summers that I have spent at my grandmother’s place. She used to ask me what I would like to eat all the time.

Kedvenc évszak?/Favorite season? Tavasz!? Ősz!? Tél!? Nyár!? Mindegyik, vagyis ezek váltakozása. Tavasz: ha tehetem, minden stációját megfigyelem, átélem. Különleges érzés felfedezni azokat a momentumokat egy évszakban, amik a még távol lévő következőt idézik, például az őszt egy júniusi napon.

Spring? Autumn? Winter? Summer? All f them, or rather, the changing of them. Spring: If I can I observe, live every stage of it. It is a very special feeling to discover those moments in a season that resemble the upcoming one, like discovering autumn on a day in June.

Melyik korban élnél szívesen?/In which era would you prefer to live in? Az ókori Krétán. Kíváncsi vagyok, hogyan éltek és mi a háttere a természetközeli és emberi léptékű művészetüknek.

Ancient Crete. I’m curious how they lived and what is behind their naturalistic and human scale art.

Van visszatérő álmod? Miről szól? Esetleg megjelenítetted már valamelyik alkotásodban?/Do you have a reoccurring dream? What was it about? Have you ever realized any of them in your artworks? Egy időben meg voltam győződve, hogy a születésemet álmodtam meg egy ismétlődő, nagyon nyomasztó, de tulajdonképpen látvány nélküli álmomban. Sajnos, nem gyakori, de felemelő, ismétlődő álmom a repülés megtapasztalása. Ezekben az álmokban, a történet változó, de maga a repülés módja elég hasonló, inkább lebegés, egyensúlyozás, mint Superman féle hasítás a levegőben.

I was convinced at a time that I was dreaming about my own birth in a reoccurring yet very grim but visual-less dream. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen very often but it is an uplifting and reoccurring element in my dreams: the experience of flying. In these dreams the story is different but the method of flying itself is very similar. It is airier and resembles hoovering, balancing rather than the fast Superman type of flying.

A painting that I am satisfied with and it has more to say to others rather than what the artist’s motivation could have been.

Ha egyetlen tanácsot kellene adni más, esetleg még kezdő tehetségeknek, mi lenne az?/If you could give one piece of advice to someone else, maybe to a beginner talent, what would it be? Hogy ne adják fel. Abból lehet művész, aki kitartó és nem az elismerés hajtja.

Don’t give up. Only those can be artists who are persistent and are driven by acknowledgment.

„1980-ban születtem Zalaegerszegen. A festészettel Nemes László műtermébe járva kezdtem ismerkedni. Meghatározó élményem, hogy a Pécsi Tudományegyetem Művészeti Karán Tolvaly Ernő festő osztályába járhattam.

Az egyetem után Pécsen maradtam, itt alapítottam családot. Négy gyermekem van. 2007-től tanítok festészetet és rajzot a Pécsi Művészeti Gimnázium és Szakgimnáziumban.

2010 és 2013 között a PTE Művészeti Kar DLA képzésére jártam, ahol Somody Péter volt a témavezetőm.”

FORK IMRE - street art művész/street artist

A legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléke, amikor megismerte a barátait, kedvenc tárgyai a papír és a ceruza, egy-egy külföldi graffiti turné tölti fel a leginkább, vonzódik az utópisztikus-apokaliptikus világok iránt, szereti a gulyáslevest.

His favorite childhood memory is when he met his friends, his favorite objects are paper and pencil, he is recharged the most by graffiti tours abroad, he is drawn by utopistic-apocalyptic worlds, he likes Gulyás soup.

Milyen típusú emlékek inspirálnak jobban: a jók vagy a rosszak?/What kind of memories inspire you the most: good or bad ones? A rosszak. A rossz dolgokból tanulok és inspirálnak, hogy jobb legyen legközelebb. A jó dolgok inkább feltöltenek, kikapcsolnak.

The bad ones. I can learn and be inspired by the bad things, so they can be better the next time. Good things rather recharge and relax me.

Ha újjászülethetnél egy ma élő vagy már halott művész személyében, kit választanál?/If you could reincarnate as a living or dead artist, who would you choose to be? Senki más bőrébe nem bújnék. Nem voltak példaképeim, kényszerűségből tanultam művtörit is :D Ez a legszebb ebben az egészben, meg kell magunkat ismerni és ebből kihozni valami újat, végigjárni a lépcsőfokokat.

I wouldn’t want to be anyone else. I had no icons, I learned art history as a must as well. :D This is the beauty of it, we have to get to know ourselves and t make something new out of it, going through all the different phases.

Hogyan lendülsz túl az időszakos alkotói válságon?/How do you overcome a temporary artistic crisis? Mindig vannak raktáron félkész munkáim, digitális és vászonfestmények egyaránt. Mivel megvan már az alap és a vezérszál, mindig tudom folytatni, így könnyen átlendítenek a nehezebb időszakokon.

I always have half done works in stock both digital and canvas paintings as well. Since the base and the direction is there I can always go back and continue which makes it easier to get through tough times.

Kinek mutatod meg először az új alkotásodat?/Who sees your work first? A feleségemnek, ő a legnagyobb és legjobb kritikusom. Ha nála átmegy elsőre, még van pár jó barátom, akiken “tesztelem” :)

My wife, she is my biggest critic. If she approves it at first then there are a few good friends of mine who are part of the “testing”. :)

Mi a legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléked?/What is your favorite childhood memory? Amikor megismertem a barátaimat.

I would describe it in 4 words: Night operation regarding graffiti… :D

Van-e napi rutinod?/Do you have a daily routine? Igen:) Reggel közös kávé a feleségemmel, napi to do list megalkotása, összepakolok vagy nekiülök rögtön csinálni valamit. Ezután már haladok, ahogy kell egész estig, akkor állok meg, ha nagyon muszáj.

Yes :) In the morning I have coffee together with my wife, creating my daily to-do list, I tidy up or I start to work on something right away. After this I am already progressing until the night if I have to, I only stop when it’s absolutely necessary.

Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favorite object? Papír és ceruza.

Paper and pencil.

Hogyan fogsz neki egy új munkának?/How do you get started on a new project? Igyekszem az ügyféllel megbeszélni, mit szeretne, jegyzetelek, otthon friss fejjel átnézem a jegyzeteket és felmérem az impulzusokat. Csinálok pár skiccet, vagy elkezdek dolgozni kicsit, kidolgozom a projekt főbb vonalait. Pihenek rá pár napot, van amikor többet is, ha megengedi a határidő, hogy minél frissebben és függetlenebb nézőpontból tudjak bele visszatérni. Ez ad egy új csavart a folyamatnak. Ezért is dolgozom egyszerre több projekten, ha lehet, mert elvonja a figyelmem, ha nagyon beleforognék feleslegesen 1-1 melóba.

I try to discuss with my customer their needs, I take notes, I go throw my notes at home with a clear mind, and I size up the impulses. I do a few sketches, or I start to work on it a little bit, I work out the main paths of the project. I take a rest for a few days, sometimes more than just a few if the deadline allows it, so I can get back to it with a fresh mind and to look at it from the most objective point of view as possible. This gives a new turn to the process. This is why I work on more projects simultaneously if I can because it gets my mind off of things if I get involved with a 1-1 project at a time.

Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a particular mood that makes creating and working easier for you? Nincs:) Ügynökségi hátterem miatt meg kellett tanulnom mindig dolgozni, ha esik, ha fúj, mindig meg kellett csinálni a munkát. Ebből tanulva, elég hamar rá tudom magam venni. Bár nem tagadom, az a legjobb, amikor reggel úgy kelek, hogy érzem, aznap jó kedvvel és frissen ülök neki az éppen aktuális feladatnak.

No :) I have a background in working at an Agency, so I had to learn to work no matter what, the work had to be done. Learning from this I am capable of getting myself into business quite easily. However, I wouldn’t deny that the best is when I wake up in the morning in a good mood and I start to get work in that state of mind. :)

Kutya vagy macska?/Dog or cat? Kutya. Szerencsére vidéken nőttem fel és volt pár jó barát kutyám - sokkal odaadóbb és barátságosabb lények. A macskák olyan önző és makacs állatoknak tűnnek :D

Dog. Fortunately I grew up on the countryside and I had several dog friends – they are friendlier and more devoted creatures. Cats seem so selfish and stubborn. :D

Mit szeretnél kifejezni az alkotásaidon keresztül?/What would you like to express through your artwork? A gondolkodásom folyamatát, a logikát, amivel átfordítok dolgokat és új környezetbe helyezem őket. Szeretem a képeimet telerakni utalásokkal, és apró részletekkel, amiken el lehet gondolkodni.

The path of my thoughts, the logic that I use to twist things and put them into new environments. I love to stuff my pictures with references and tiny details which can make someone think.

Milyen a stílusod?/What is your style like? Mechanikus és organikus ötvözet. Imádom keresztezni a minket körülvevő világot, reprodukálni élő dolgokat és összekeverni digitális formában.

The alloy of mechanic and organic. I love to hybridize the world around us, reproducing things that are alive, and mix it in a digital form.

Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Egy külföldi graffiti turné.

Kedvenc város?/Favorite city? Berlin. Sok helyen jártam már, de ilyen benyomást egy sem tett rám. Otthon éreztem magam, a szabadság és a rengeteg lehetőség az önkifejezésre elképesztő hatással van. Alig várom, hogy visszatérjek és minél több időt eltöltsek ott.

Berlin. I’ve been to many places, but no other place has ever had such an impact on me. I feel at home, the freedom and the opportunities have an unbelievable effect on self-expression- I can’t wait to go back and to spend as much time there as I can.

Hol leszel 10 év múlva?/Where will you be in 10 years? Remélem, itthon, egy jobb és élhetőbb országban, ahol támogatják a feltörekvő nemzedéket.

I hope here at home, in a better country, where the upcoming generations are supported.

Kedvenc étel?/Favorite food? Gulyásleves. Imádom a leveseket, és a húst ez pedig mindezek remek ötvözete.

Gulyás soup. I love soups in general and meat as well and this dish is a great combination of the two.

Kedvenc évszak?/Favorite season? Tavasz. Ahogy a természet újraéled bámulatos, ilyenkor rendszeresen sétálok az erdőben, hogy lássam a folyamatot.

Spring. It’s breathtaking how nature is reborn, I regularly walk in the forest this time of the year so I can witness the process.

Mi a legrosszabb tulajdonságod?/What is your worst characteristic? Maximalista vagyok.

I am a maximalist.

Melyik korban élnél szívesen?/In which era would you prefer to live in? Hidegháború. Van egy fura perverz vonzalmam az utópisztikus/apokaliptikus világok iránt. Gyerekkoromban a Majmok bolygója 2 atombombát imádó, metró alagútban lakó, telepatikus népe megbabonázott teljesen:)

Cold war. For some weird reason, I am attracted by utopistic/apocalyptical worlds. As a child, I was mesmerized by the nation form Planet of the Apes 2 who loved the atomic bomb, lived in the subway tunnels, and communicated through telepathy. :)

Van visszatérő álmod? Miről szól? Esetleg megjelenítetted már valamelyik alkotásodban?/Do you have a reoccurring dream? What is it about? Have you ever visualized it in your art-work? Van. Visszatérő álmom, hogy lekésem a gépem Barcelonából hazafele… A vicces az, hogy sosem voltam ott, de idén remélem, összejön :)

I do. It’s about that I miss my flight from Barcelona back home…. The funny thing is that I have never been to Barcelona a before, but I hope I will go this year :)

Mi az az alkotás, amit mindenképpen meg kell csinálnod, mielőtt meghalsz?/What is that specific artwork you have to accomplish before you die? Nagyon szeretnék nagyméretű installációt/szobrot készíteni, ami egy használható szabadtéri pihenőhely, de egy hatalmas optikai illúzió is egyben és persze graffitin alapul vagy annak az eszközeivel játszik.

I would love to make a huge installation/statue which can be used as an outdoor relax place but it is an optical illusion at the same time. It would be graffiti based or it would play with its’ tools.

Ha egyetlen tanácsot kellene adni más, esetleg még kezdő tehetségeknek, mi lenne az?/If you could give one piece of advice to someone else, maybe to a beginner talent, what would it be? Gondolkozzanak logikusan, legyenek szorgalmasak és szánjanak több időt arra, hogy elérjék a kitűzött célt.

Think logically, be diligent and make time for yourselves to reach your goal.
