When we first got introduced to Valentine in the Monster High universe he was just another villain. His whole spill was kinda cool tho.

Collecting the hearts of girls in love as trophies, thus making it impossible for them to ever love anyone again??? I was immediately hooked. And it was a Draculaura-centric movie too, so there was a bonus.

However it wasn't till many years later that I discovered Valentine's diary and boy did it deliver.

If that sounds kinda like the gay archetype, well, put on ur listening ears for a sec, 'cause we've got a story for you. Apparently, according to the creator of Monster High, his diary was supposed to have him come out as gay. It was a collector's item anyway. Kids wouldn't have had a chance to buy it as it was a convention-exclusive doll, but Mattel said and I quote "It is not the right time"

Well, the gay route was a no-go, so instead they had to be sneaky about it. If you read the diary, the core, the framework of the original idea is still there. Evident especially in the May 3rd entry:

"I now know that what I did - stealing love - was because I thought that's what emotional vampires were supposed to do. But it never felt quite right. I thought if I kept doing it, it would eventually feel right. Then when Draculaura called me - well, Toralei really - I thought that if I could get the heart that got away, it would change me, and everything would be fine. But I was just a real pain in the fang to everyone and made a fool of myself. So I've come to the conclusion being myself has to be easier than not being myself, right? Back then, I hated the thought of who I really was, and that conflict made me become someone who wasn't me. It's time to be true to myself, but it's scary."

Like come on!!!! How can it get queerer than that?!? He is one foot away from coming out of his coffin with glitter make up and rainbow hair!

But then the diary had to go the sneaky route. They knew they couldn't make him gay... At least directly. They had to be increeibly sneaky about that. Just then Spelldon Cauldronello steps onto the scene.

Written into the diary as a blink you'll miss it moment, Spelldon is Casta Fierce's younger brother. Up to that point there was no mention of the character in Monster High cannon. but his interaction with Valentine, well... It was short for one. But a lot was packed into that very short meeting. Keiran Valentine upon first meeting him spaces out, after which they spend some time together gettin to know each other better, ultimately ending with Valentine asking Spelldon for his number.

You'd think there'd be more, yet sadly that is where Spelldon's part in Valentines story arch stops. There was clear intent there to create a more inclusive Monster High, for which I am grateful. Despite not giving us a look at Spelldon's design, the fandom took it upon themselves to create designs and fanart, thus keeping his character alive.

The design I used in this piece actually belongs to my incredibly talented friend @i-have-serious-brainfreeze . He created this design of the nerdy Spelldon on a whim, and since then I have been utterly obsessed with it. So much so that I choose to create a fanart piece of the two bby gays.

As of now, Gen 3 made no current mention of either Valentine or Spelldon, so it's safe to say their story has been shelved for the time being. However, things are moving on the Monster High representation front. Twyla has been cannonicaly made autistic, Frankie nonbinary, and Clankie steered slowly towards a canonical romantic relationship.

If there ever is a better time to bring back Keiran Valentine, it certainly is now.

ah haha, ive really fallen deep into it now.

anyways, mary-beth and keiran my beloveds. theres something so nice and sweet about the two of them and i got very upset upon finding out the affectionately dubbed "stinky boy" one night while i was talking to my partner in crime. he has never done a single thing wrong ever

also, hes not a cat in this universe because i said so! i thought it might be entertaining if keiran was actually a coyote, and colm was one too. this sort of could add to the reasons why the gang doesnt initially like him very much. though the two dont look alike at all

did you know coyotes can actually come in quite a few different colors???? i didnt know this and we have so many of them where i live, its a real problem lmao

also, there is a speedpaint to this but its not up yet because when i initially tried to upload it, youtube decided to be a colossal dick. so now ive gotta fix it but there will be one eventually lmao

Namami!Older!Bucchi

Nanami!Older!Bucchi is a very wise and reserved kind of hynea beastman, often appearing so calm and indifferent that he comes off as stoic and aloof. He seems like the kind of person who's too serious about his work, but Nanami!Bucchi just knows how to separate sentimentalism from service. He also fond of baked goods and is usually the last customer for the pastry chef due to his work schedule which usually ends with them talking for hours about how they overworked they are. It's been joked by Keiran, Venus!Diamond and Mirajane!Silver that he and the pastry chef are in love with each other.

Qin!Viper

Qin!Viper is extremely confident in himself despite his status as a servant to Al-Asim. He's also quite fearless especially when calling out the dorm leaders for either teasing or making fun of Yuu who he's quite fond of. He's described by Jamil to be "The Cursed Viper who has his freedom" due to his friendship with Sinbad!Al-Asim who actually treats him like a person and the fact that the only reason Sinbad!Al-Asim has Qin!Viper as a servant was the fact that Qin!Viper often calls him out more times than not which was something Sinbad!Al-Asim respected. His unique magic was definitely sealed away during his first year due to him collapsing when he first unlocked it which led to him being transferred from NRC to RSA first then back to NRC when he finally gotten it under control. Despite what happen to him, he's remained as Sinbad!Al-Asim's servant ever since.

Sinbad!Al-Asim

Sinbad is a very laidback and fun-loving person. He can be quite a flirt and is not above using his charm to get what he wants. He has flirted with a lot of people. Despite all this, he can be serious when needed and is a great and honorable noble who is respected by everyone he meets, especially his servants. He has been called out by Qin!Viper for his arrogance when they first arrived to NRC.

Barbie!LeBlanche (Based on Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse Barbie, not Movie Barbie)

Barbie!LeBlanche is a very passionate, bubbly, kind-hearted person and never has any bad intentions or will. They always helps others, even despite Vil's evil schemes towards their sibling. They are shown to be a social butterfly and outgoing, easily making friends, as they are  loyal, friendly, generous, and tries their hardest not to upset them. Barbie!LeBlanche is a fashion enthusiast, even owning their own giant boutique and is usually prepared in case of a fashion emergency/disaster.

I can see Nanami!Bucchi being someone Ruggie looks up to. Maybe that's where he gets his work ethic from. Either way, Nanami!Bucchi would 100% drop by Savanaclaw given permission and time to deliver food for Ruggie. And only for Ruggie, he tells his brother he's not allowed to share. He'd get Ruggie donuts from that pastry chef, but he'd definitely have to convince himself to give them up because he loves those donuts too.

Qin!Viper and Sinbad!Asim are definitely... characters compared to their brothers BAHAHAHA. I can see people expecting Sinbad!Asim to be the same as Kalim or vice versa depending on who they meet first, only to be met with an absolute curveball of a personality shift between the brothers. Meanwhile, Qin!Viper and Jamil would share some similarities (according to Azul at least, who finds both very amusing and fascinating) but Jamil would absolutely hate the fact that Qin!Viper draws so much attention to them. Like, his brother is ruining his plans PLEASE--

Barbie!LeBlanche would be just as loved by everyone as Neige is ajkdfhskj... OMG imagine Rook being a LeBlanche sibling fan. Vil would riot when he finds out 😭

It wasn’t until hours later that someone tall walked in, his perfect posture and unreadable expression reeking of confidence. I immediately ducked my head down, but he didn’t glance at me, his platform boots coming to a stop in front of the queen.

“Kieran,” she acknowledged, not looking up at him.

“Lucia. Pleasure to see you again. Your status as a former ruler means that I am required to show a certain level of respect for you, but please know that will not protect you from the consequences of breaking the law. It will only protect me from spitting on your grave.”

I tried desperately to remember what Prince Ryan had told me about Keiran last night. Someone had their information wrong, because he’d just called the queen a former ruler when her family had had the crown for sixteen generations. We’d come here to overthrow Keiran—that meant he was a king, right? Of what country? We hadn’t driven far enough to have left Sathenn last night, had we? All of Sathenn was the territory of the royal family, forever, but Kieran was a king somewhere, right?

“Lucia, your charges against the kingdom are as follows,” the man—Kieran—continued. “The murder of seven people last night, the-” He abruptly cut himself off, and I glanced up to see his eyes fixed on me.

Fuck.

I leaned further forward, straining my wings in an effort to stay balanced, hoping desperately that he’d continue whatever he was doing before. It seemed to have the opposite effect. “You have wings.”

I swallowed nervously. “Yes, sir.” His boots had spikes on them. I couldn’t tell if they were just decoration or if they were strong enough to be used to hurt. Decorative spikes could still hurt, but it’d ruin them to be used like that. That might not stop him, though. With boots like that, he wouldn't even have to crouch down to draw my blood, it'd be so easy. If he kicked me, it would- well, it probably wouldn’t be good, exactly.

Kieran glanced between me and the queen. “Lucia, where the hell did you get an angel? I can’t- You know what? I don’t want to know.” He crouched in front of me. “Hey. Angel. What’s your name?”

“Onyx. …Sir.” I didn’t lift my head up, hoping it would disguise the way my voice shook.

Obviously, it didn’t work, because his voice was gentle the next time he talked. “Okay, Onyx, my name is Kieran. Can you tell me what happened to your wing?”

“... Pardon?”

“Your wing. The broken one.”

The broken one. Right. Right. “That wasn't from last night. It’s been broken as long as I can remember, sir. It doesn’t hurt anymore. It was broken as a preventative measure, so that I couldn’t fly.”

“So that you couldn’t- Jesus. Okay. That’s sadistic. You’re going to need medical care for that, and for- what happened to your arm?”

My arm was from last night, but it was difficult to remember what had actually happened. It was a sword, I thought, probably, because Prince Cardan had… fuck, what had happened? He’d resisted the handcuffs, right?

“Sometime today, Onyx.”

“My apologies, sir. It got scraped last night.”

“Right. Medical care. Is anyone else in here injured?”

“Ryan fucked up his arm,” Prince Cardan blurted out, and Prince Ryan turned to glare at him.

“You fucked up my arm. Are you snitching on me to Kieran to get back at me for not letting you kill him? Is that what this is, you little piece of-”

“No one is snitching on anyone,” Kieran said firmly. “For better or worse, no one is treating anyone without explicit consent. Ryan, would you like medical assistance?”

Prince Ryan spat at Kieran’s boots.

“Fine by me,” Kieran muttered. “Onyx, medical care?”

I glanced at Prince Ryan, on my left, and he sighed. “They won't be able to do anything about your wing, but you can go if your arm hurts.” He was annoyed, maybe with his brother and maybe with me, but he wouldn’t have said I could if he hadn’t meant it. I wouldn’t get in trouble for going.

“Untie the angel and help him to the infirmary, please,” Kieran told a guard. I wouldn’t get in trouble from the royal family for going, but I supposed that he had made no promises.

“Onyx,” Prince Ryan said quietly, and I glanced back at him. “Do what they tell you, yeah? Be nice and compliant for them. Don’t get hurt.” Don’t get punished, he meant. Do what they tell you and stay out of trouble.

I could do that. I knew how to do that.

Prince Cardan laughed. “It's an angel, Ry, not some priceless artifact. Does it matter?”

Prince Ryan didn't give an answer, and the guard didn't wait for one anyway, ushering me out the door.

Headcanon: Juliana knows how to sew and make clothes, so she could make all of the adorable outfits already been shared by others, as well as make for herself and/or Keiran, a hoodie/poncho/garment that looks like Ogerpon's... leafy cloak that changes colours with the masks, with the collar of the garment being mimicing the black bit framing Ogerpon's face.

(I want to include an image in case my description isnt good enough, but i dont have the spoons to draw at the moment but i also dont want to wait to send this bc i dont want to forget this idea)

(Also Chapter 10 is really good, i might need to reread it tho, brain aint braining good today)

Keiran Theory

This post has a lot of spoilers for The Teal Mask DLC, please proceed with caution!!!

(I also probably spelt keirans name wrong)

My theory is thar Keiran is being manipulated/controlled/possesssd by an unseen force, causing him to act out. Specifically, the fourth member of the "loyal three". The wish granter and presumably the boy from a peach that is from the story the trio was based on (I'm in class and forgetting the name, sorry). This force is hinted at in the threes pokedex entries, granting their wishes for strength, wisdom, and beauty. This being is preying on Keirans insecurities and pushing him to wish to be better then the protagonist. He will become corrupted in part two, drawing a purple/magenta hair tie in his hair similar to the scarf and such the loyal three each have. This accessory is what corrupts the holder. It changed the loyal threes' appearance, which is why they look so dramatically different from all the masks we see in the game.
