may I request a platonic Nana/KC with fem reader at a sleepover? :) binging anime and doing eachothers make up and she's low-key emotional because it's been awhile since a friend has had an interest in her directly and especially her interests,, I always felt bad she was usually pushed aside for being weird :(
Tumblr media
𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘, 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘?
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: mystreet nana ashida & fem!reader
𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: ‘part of me will know deep down that i am pretty cool. part of me that knows i never cared for being cool.’
𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: fluff, platonic, a bit of reverse hurt/comfort, nana being a sweetie cutie patootie
𝐂𝐖: none?
𝐀/𝐍: kinda short but i really love and in some ways relate to nana, so this was really lovely to write :’) i also got sad when other characters just saw her as weird. also, when writing this i was like, oh yeah! binging anime and baking!! and after i finished writing the fic i read that you wrote makeup ;( i hope you still like it!
𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓
Tumblr media
the sweet smell of fresh baked goods permeated through the kitchen as the warmth of the oven surrounded you like a warm and familiar hug. you and nana stand side by side, frozen in place as the two of you zone out at the tv you had moved to the counter. its screen plays an episode of a shoujo anime, one that nana had persuaded you to watch with her.
you flinch when you realize you stuck your hand too far into the mixing bowl, your fingers slowly sinking into the freshly made dough instead of rolling it into balls like you were supposed to.
a squeal leaves nana’s lips as she jumps up and down in excitement, hugging onto your arm with a grin. you glance back at the screen to see that the love interest had finally kissed the main character.
“it only took, what, twelve episodes?” you giggle, earning a huff and nudge from the pink-haired girl.
“hey, this is a special moment, okay! wasn’t it cute?”
“yes, yes. it was super cute,” you concede. “i really liked that one! you have good taste.”
“i’m glad,” she turns her attention back down to the heart-shaped cake she was frosting. “...my interests can be a little weird, but i’m glad you like them.”
you turn to her curiously, noticing her strange change of tone and how the baked good in front of her suddenly was much more interesting than anything else in the room.
“i don’t think they’re weird.” you insist, attention drawn to how her tail anxiously flicked back and forth.
“i just mean most people think i’m kind of strange,” she says, waving her hand dismissively as if it were no big deal. “my hobbies aren’t really… normal.”
you wrinkle your nose, eyebrows furrowing.
“what’s “normal”, anyway?” nana’s round eyes flick back to you, her expression taken aback. “sounds boring.”
she lets out a quiet laugh suddenly, covering her mouth before looking down at the cake with a distant smile on her face.
“yeah, i guess i never really wanted to fit in anyways.”
the two of you continue to bake in comfortable silence, letting the soft hum of the tv fill your ears as you both focus on your tasks. the setting sun shines through the windows, casting an orange glow on both of your faces. when the episode ends, nana softly sets down her butter knife, turning to look at you. as your eyes meet hers, you’re shocked at the emotion you find in them, molten gold glistening as tears gather on the surface.
“i’m so glad you’re my friend,” lean hands reach out for yours, cupping them in an earnest show of appreciation. “i hope you know how much you mean to me.”
you squeeze her hands back, eyes widening as you try to think of a response to her sudden affection.
“i feel like i can really be myself around you. people have always brushed off my interests and called them silly, but you genuinely care. thank you.”
“of course, nana,” you pull her into a hug. “you’re one of the kindest and most interesting friends i’ve ever had.”
she sniffles and clears her throat, pulling from the hug to wipe away a stray tear that had fallen from her lashes.
“really?” her voice is small, tight with surprised uncertainty.
you tilt your head, giving her a soft smile.
“yeah… i actually was gonna say we should do this more often. you know, have sleepovers like this where we try out a new hobby we’re interested in.”
“really, really?!” her eyes light up in elation, her sentiment quickly shifting into pure excitement once again. “you’d want to try crochet? and dollmaking? are you sure?”
“uh, duh! that sounds like so much fun.”
she squeals in happiness, engulfing you in another hug and spinning you both around in the kitchen. the smell of her vanilla and strawberry-scented perfume filled your nose, a scent that she had donned and owned since high school.
"we should make a list!"
after spinning and giggling a bit longer, you two soon returned to your previous activities, debating if the second male lead was a better choice or not while munching on your freshly baked sweet treats.

Any guesses for season 2?  Living full time in KC?  Going to all the games?  Engagement?
As I’ve said before, I believe season 2 is the most likely scenario. I believe this because it has been so successful and I don’t see a reason for her to mess with success. And I see few signs of a change. And if season 2 does happen, a big part of it will be the constant anticipation for an engagement ( and pregnancy unfortunately.) Every appearance she makes at a game would involve the GP looking at her hands and speculating about Travis asking or them announcing it publicly in some way. This would be huge publicity for both of them, and for the NFL and Chiefs. Viewership and scuttlebutt will continue to be high. I haven’t paid too much attention this off season, but I believe KC will be the favorite to go to the SB again, so that’s another chance for huge, huge publicity for her. But it is a bit of a “been there done that” situation, so that should be kept in mind. I do not know what her next big project is (re-recording, TS12, documentary, hyping herself up as a director, or something else) but if she does have something (I think we can assume a re-recording by March, so that counts) this is her promo for it, just like she used it last year for eras tour movie, 1989 tv, and TTPD. Even if she has nothing specific to promote, there’s always her brand and the perception that she likes men, along with keeping her actual private life private. For him, he has his game show and the Ryan Murphy show to promote. Plus he’s trying to do a huge podcast deal and trying to get more similar gigs, especially a movie deal.
So, short term: she goes to games (possibly as early as this Thursday - romantically flying straight from London.) She will appear to spend the bulk of the next 2 months in KC. When he has extra days off they may do something outside of kc✅. I think he’ll have a few days after this Thursday’s game✅. I don’t have the energy to look up if his bye week coincides with a tour stop, but I looked in the past, and I don’t think it does. Basically similar to last year except he probably won’t make it to a show. She’ll probably go the VMAs.
However, while I think the above is most likely, I can see several different paths that would add something more fun and interesting (for me - I have been mostly bored by travlor since January.) For example I believe that whenever the breakup is planned (tomorrow or 4 years from now) she will do it in a hilarious and well thought-out way that I am really looking forward to. I think she’ll try to top her announcing the toe breakup by switching out Invisible String and then officially announcing it at midnight, Easter, London time, on Matty’s birthday, followed by all her friends unfollowing him one by one. I won’t dare try to predict the details, except I know I will love it. And that could be tomorrow or it could be ~October, if she doesn’t plan to do the full Super Bowl thing again. Again it could also be in 4 years or even never. I do not actually know anything.
Other interesting things that could happen include releasing the rep vault and we all lose our minds. She could come out as bi. She could get engaged. There’s the election, which I assume she’ll back Harris in some way✅, but I don’t know if he’ll be involved. I do not know any of this actually. It’s all guesses. But my guess have been very good since November so there’s no reason for me to doubt I’m mostly right.
There are a few clues I’ve been watching, some stuff that started in May, that tells me a break up in the near term could happen, and if it does happen, I will let you know what those clues were. And there’re few other things I’m watching for to add to that. But I don’t really see a breakup before October to be likely. Always possible, but unlikely.

Actor au family relationships
(quick warning, they’re going to be mentions of child, abandonment, unspecified child abuse, & implied missing parents. Please be wary of this before continuing.)
Main celestial family
The main celestial family doesn’t really have contact with creator for a few reasons.
He favored Earth over KC, Sun & Moon.
He had put a strong kill code in KC when making his eldest
He got mad when he learned Chica’s father removed said kill code
He dismissed most of Sun’s accomplishments as a child
Put a lot of pressure on Moon with inventing The second he showed slight interest in it.
When eclipse was 4, he put a kill code in him to ‘keep an extremely useful code in the family’ while watching him
It was after he put the kill code into eclipse that the family went no contact with him, only getting back into contact with him because of the show. Too this day, there’s still bits of that kill code in eclipse, since it was much harder to remove than his fathers.
Eclipse has told Blood moon, Harvest moon & Lunar to not stay in the same room as their great grandfather due to the second kill code incident.
Sun had also told the same to Dazzle, Jack, Delta wave & Beta wave when they joined the show inorder to keep the kids safe.
Ruin’s Family
Ruin had moved out of his home around 16, mainly because of how loud his parents got watching TV, & so he could get to school quicker. When he (now 17) found Delta wave & Beta wave, he called his parents to let them know about the two children he had found.
Once his parents understood that he didn’t know who their parents were and where exactly Ruin found them at, they offered to help him as much as they could.
Once ruin turned 18, he legally adopted Delta & Beta
Delta wave & Beta waves parents
The wave twins parents weren’t the best, & it showed with their treatment of the twins.
Eventually, their father got so mad at them that he dragged them out of the house & left them (4) in an alley way.
Luckily, Ruin & his friend Riley (his world’s Roxy) found the twins and brought them back to ruins apartment, making sure to warm them up.
Sometimes they recognize either of their parents when they head out to the store with Ruin, in which case they stick extremely close to him.
They’re very attached to Ruin & his family, & will cling to ruin.
Solar’s family
Solar doesn’t really know if he has any parents, as his early memories were with Nova (his sun) & Calisto (his moon).
Generally speaking, despite the lack of parents, he and his brothers did pretty well in life. They’re all pretty close.
While they don’t know their parents, they do at least know, one set of their grandparents, as they were the ones to care for them, & their grandparents were (in Solar’s words) awesome.

Brothers In Arms!! SAMS AU
So Brothers in Arms won the poll!! Excuse any mistakes here, I'm on tablet with HORRID auto correct! Ill do my best to explain the AU!!
Basically, its an AU where Eclipse cares...to an extent. I made this up a LONG time ago, when Solar Flare was still alive so brace yourselves.
When Eclipse made Bloodmoon, he didn't want to just kill him because Eclipse still acknowledged that he was a weird robot being like him. Plus, he's the one who programmed him like that so it isn't Bloodmoons's fault. Eclipse thought that BM would be perfect for offensive and defensive but mainly it.
So, Eclipse made a new robot who would be better at getting into people's heads and simply less violent! Aka, Lunar! Of course, since he was made solely off of Eclipses nice thoughts, Lunar was way too childish. So, he also wasn't very obedient. But, Lunar of course had other uses so he didn't just discard of him either.
Finally, Solar Flare comes in. He's obedient, wow!! But, he's very monotone and acts like an actual robot which erm...is a bit nice. Well, whatever he's asked of he will do unless it directly harms his brothers. This will lead to him giving out secrets because "tf is sun gonna do? give us glitter glue?"
So, this is set during the Lunar and Eclipse Show ARC. Moon and Sun only know about Lunar because BM and Solar Flare are laying low. No KC or Earth YET, the wholesome stuff has to play out first. Yes, there will be drama but most posts abt this AU will be funny and/or adorable!! So, lemme explain everyone!!
.
Eclipse - Eclipse takes on an older brother role, since he is the oldest erm. He mainly acts like he doesn't care what they do, who they do it with, and what happens to them unless it directly affects him. But, he cares a lot (a bit too much since he's overprotective smh). He may groan and complain but he'll help with anything and everything his siblings needs. Random fact? Sure! He loves hugs but refuses them every time he's asked for one, bros tryna be an alpha male.
Bloodmoon - The twins are really hyper and full of energy but they try toning it down with their siblings. Just don't hit them too much. He's not overprotective like Eclipse, he'll probably forget about their siblings problem once a butterfly flys towards them BUT if the problem is in their face then all hell will break loose. Fun Fact? Okay!! He loves watching HTF, its a show he watches when he craves blood but isn't in the position to get it.
Lunar - Since this is past Lunar, he loves annoying his siblings. Especially Bloodmoon since he gives a bigger reaction. Even though he's a middle child, he acts like the youngest lmao. He loves playing games, watching TV, and just hanging out with his siblings in general! Goofy fact? Sure! Whenever Lunar has nightmares, he automatically goes to Eclipse. Tears and all (eclipse never gets sleep 😭🙏)
Solar Flare - He's very nonchalant and unbothered. He does care, he just doesn't know how to show it. Not to be confused with Eclipse. There's s differences between not WANTING to show it and not knowing HOW to show it. But, Solar Flare can get a bit quirky and annoy his siblings back. Because of his RBF and his robotic voice, anything out his mouth is always believed. So, he'll lie about teeny things randomly. "Hey, did you know that the sky can change color?" And they'll run to the sky to stare at it for an hour. Ofc, Solar Flare can't tell bigger lies than that lmao. Silly Fact? Okay! He has to wear glasses but never does because he knows damn well his siblings will bully him.
That's it for now!! Again, excuse any spelling and grammar mistakes unless its truly nonsense. I'm on a shit device RN 😭🙏

Good afternoon, Kelsey!! How was yesterday? I hope today is nice 🥰
hi, ashley! happy monday!
yesterday was fine. i didn't do much, just because i was trying to squeeze rewriting a scene in before i had to start work, soooo...i mostly just focused on doing that/some rewriting/practicing driving, but nothing too interesting. but also, omg, you should've seen my sister during the super bowl last night. she, like very many other swifties, was really rooting for KC last night, and she was STRESSED. she was standing in front of the TV like a dad and shouting. she's never watched a full football game in her life 😭
anyway, today i started my new job <3 so i haven't gotten a chance to respond to a few different things on like 54 different apps, so if anybody else is reading this - sorry, i will get there eventually. it was nice! getting up at 6:45 knowing i will have to do it every day was not, but. whatever. it's fine for now. my boss is so old lol, i'm literally like a personal assistant alongside being a paralegal, but i'm optimistic. i might get my own office !! i'm literally getting paid a nice amount just to organize files and transcribe handwritten letters, so this is perfect for me.
how are you? how was yesterday? i hope today was nice !!

I could write a whole essay about how and why I love you, @the-al-chemist, but honestly, I don't think I have to.
I think you know. No, actually, I know you know. You're the bestest. Happy Birthday 💛💛💛
Tumblr media
A/N: Katriona Cassiopeia is the brainchild of the lovely @kc-and-co. Artemis Hexley belongs to @the-al-chemist, ofc. Warning: Language, dark noir world-weariness.
It’s a day like any other, really.
To be honest, most of them are. Same drag, same routine, day in, day out in this fucked up little world, where a new cigarette brand at the store is the biggest outrage and excitement people have seen in weeks.
My morning starts like most days do - wake up from the shouting in the streets; squint at the dirty midday light filtering through even dirtier windows; roll out of bed and find some breakfast consisting of cold coffee and a cigarette, both of which taste suspiciously like ash.
I spend my time running errands, helping my brother Bill with those business transactions of his that require a little more subtlety. From the change I find in his debtors’ pockets, I treat myself to lunch at Molly’s - lukewarm eggs, rubbery bacon and beans that are worse than my morning coffee. A bloody culinary dream.
I’m still thinking about Mama Molly’s scrambled eggs as the doors of the custody cell fall shut behind me. Office Corey Hayden, the portly policeman who has locked me up, says nothing, just scratches his fat belly with the doughnut crumbs on it and shakes his head at me.
“This is the fourth time this week, Weasley.”
“And it’s already Saturday. Disappointing, I know.”
As I said - a day like any other, really.
Officer Doughnut rolls his eyes and turns away. He has a football match playing on his small television in the corner. I bury my hands in my pockets, grunting as I chafe my knuckles on the scratchy fabric. The wounds still sting, but the bastard on the receiving end has had it coming. Thinking about him makes the rage in me flare up again. One scumbag down, a million more to go.
Like a giant fucking hydra.
Rubbing my fingers with the fresh blood against each other, I place one bloody thumbprint against the wall, right next to the one from two days prior. My own personal scoring record. I was here. I will come back.
Officer Hayden grunts. “‘Tis ain’t no fucking gallery, Weasley. Stop it.”
“And if not?”
The police officer grunts again and focuses on the match, turning the television so I can see what’s going on.
“Is it too much to watch some goddamn rugby, at least?” I hear a voice behind me, followed by two sharp clicking sounds. I turn.
Behind me sits a woman; a girl, even, it’s hard to tell. She looks small in her oversized coat, and her mane of unkempt hair. She’s scrawny, almost haggardly so. Mama Molly wouldn’t be able to resist stuffing her with food until she’d throw up from either amount, or taste, or both. The source of the clicking sound, I realise, is a silver lighter she holds in her hand. She flicks it open and closes it again, her eyes trained on the TV screen. I cock my brow at her.
“Not exactly the Ritz, ain’t it?”
“Dunno. Never been there.”
She stares at me, a challenge if I’ve ever seen one. Her eyes are strange, hazel, with a green ring around the middle. They remind me of a cat. How curious.
“And who would you be?” I ask, leaning against the bars of our shared confinement. “Never seen you around before.”
Her cat-eyes narrow. “Are you hitting on me?”
“Just trying to start a conversation.”
She snorts. “Don’t bother.”
“I’d listen to her, Weasley,” Officer Corey chimes in, putting his feet on top of a pile of paperwork that will never see completion. “Tried to bite me earlier.”
I turn my attention back to her. “Feisty, are you?”
She only glares.
“Whatever,” I shrug into her sullen silence. “I’m Charlie, by the way.”
More silence. I shrug again and concentrate on the match. Exeter City have just swindled themselves to a penalty. Suddenly, the cat-eye-woman speaks up.
“I’m Fire.”
“Feisty and confident.”
“No,” she says angrily, “that’s what they call me at work.”
“You have work?”
“Why are you so surprised?”
“You’re here, aren’t you?”
“So are you.”
The corners of my mouth twitch. “Maybe this is my job.”
A snort can be heard from Officer Corey’s corner. The woman gives me a hard look from her strange eyes.
“Are you taking the piss?”
“Anything to lighten the mood.”
I flash her a grin but receive only a frown in return.
“Forget it, Weasley,” Corey calls again, followed by a groan as Exeter’s striker kicks the ball straight past the goal. “She’s like a feral cat, that one.”
“Have yet to meet a cat who doesn’t like me.”
Silence again. Exeter have taken the failed penalty badly and - much to Officer Corey’s chagrin - are falling apart quickly. From time to time, I glance at the woman with the cat-eyes. She’s stopped playing with her lighter and is staring at the wall as if, by the sheer force of her bad mood alone, she could blow a hole in it. I sigh.
“You really are one fun cellmate, aren’t you?”
I almost think she has stopped responding to me altogether when she raises her chin and asks,
“Why are you here?”
“Animals,” I tell her, seeing her shoulders relax, even if only slightly. “I get them from illegal breeders who treat them like shit. Giving them a taste of their own medicine. That’s why I’m here.”
I’m not sure she believes me. Her face gives away nothing.
“That’s what you meant about the cats earlier?”
“I did.”
“And that’s all?”
“That’s all. What about you? Who did you piss off?”
“No one,” she responds stubbornly. “A misunderstanding.”
“Misunderstanding my arse,” Officer Corey huffs. “Picked her up by the harbour earlier.”
I frown. “Where the big fire was?”
“Right bloody next to it. And good thing we did. She’s with that Cassiopeia lady, or so I’ve heard. No good ever comes of that lot.”
Corey’s words pique my interest. I know KC and her girls. Despite what Officer Corey thinks, they’re good girls, all of them. The business they’re dealing in is beyond me, but everyone with half a brain cell left knows to leave them alone. They look like angels, but their kiss brings death.
I look at my cellmate.
Or fire.
I nod at the lighter she has taken out again. “That why they call you Fire?”
She tenses, and the lighter disappears in her pocket in an instant. “No.”
“Why then?”
“None of your business.”
“Well, I’ve got time.”
“Tough luck. I don’t.”
With that, she rises to her feet and walks past me to the door of our cell. Beyond the bars, a woman has appeared in the doorway to the police station, surrounded by a cloud of glamour and expensive perfume. Katriona ‘KC’ Cassiopeia takes a long look at the woman calling herself Fire, a resigned sigh leaving her blood-red lips. She pulls a slender purse from her handbag and places a big bundle of banknotes on Officer Corey’s desk. Thumbing through them with greasy fingers, he finishes his doughnut and gets up to unlock the cell.
“Off you go, Miss.”
KC’s eyes only graze me, but she gives me a nod of recognition anyway. I return it. Down in the drags, we’re all in the same boat, after all, one way or another.
“This is not what we agreed on, Artemis,” I hear KC hiss at her protégée, who stubbornly looks ahead. I swear I can see her non-existent fur bristling. “You’re a proper fire hazard at this point, you know that?”
“Way too small for a hazard,” I can’t help but comment. “More of a firebug, if you ask me.”
“Shame no one’s asking you, Weasley.” KC gives me a look. “Staying longer this time ‘round?”
“Only until my deposit arrives, I’m afraid.”
“Figures. I don’t have that much luck.”
The two women leave, quietly talking among themselves. I watch as they step outside into the drizzling rain, KC beneath a luxurious umbrella, her fiery friend hidden by the hood of her coat. As they vanish into the night, I see the quick flicker of a flame before that, too, disappears into the night.
I smirk to myself as I settle into my favourite corner of the cell. A new player, then.
Welcome to the game, little Firebug.
You’re in for a hell of a ride.

Also Joe and Taylor spent so much time together bc he was jobless and Taylor was choosing not to work. Taylor and Travis love that they are so passionate about their careers and she loves watching him do what he loves (as per Time interview). This is what works for them, I don’t know why others think she should be sitting at his house for 12 hours a day without him when, for all intents and purposes, she doesn’t have that much of a life in KC apart from him and like Brittany. Post-Brazil was a v different set of circumstances and I think people have gotten too caught up in that.
I will say Taylor WAS working when she was with Joe. She wrote/recording reputation. Toured reputation. Wrote/recorded Lover. Planned a Lover tour. Wrote/recorded folklore and evermore. All of this within 3 years. She was also recording all of her TV versions. She actually hasn't stopped working since reputation era.

hey i'm back to clear things up, i was just so quick to get my thoughts out i didn't think to properly explain them
i wanted joel to seem more dramatic was what i meant. yell leave and then turn his head to the side bc he can't look at her go, or smtn like that. idk maybe i'm too hung op on this i'll rewatch the ep tmrw to see if i still feel the same
i liked the funnier in her head line too, but the fake bite was soo cute
ok fedra time this is gonna be a long one lol. i totally got what why ellie was saying those things, it's more so about the "rules" of the show. yk how every piece of media has it's own rules about the world and how the ppl in it are allowed to function. ex if someone other than the main cast shows altruistic intentions they're hiding something (spn), everyone lies for their own benefit to some degree (house md), the people can't rule themselves (got) etc. the rules of tlou (so far at least) are that there can't be an uprising without one firm hand who has clear and realistic end goals which happen to coincide with the morals of the writers. no one firm hand and no realistic goals means the fireflies are idealistic and ineffective. the morals don't coincide with the writers and no clear end goal means kc is brutal and senseless. it's not so much about these specific groups, but what they stand for. further examples for the fact that the people can't rule themselves. (ps jackson has council representatives which is called council communism and again proves the point that in the world of tlou there need to be people who make decisions for the majority)
i totally got the type of crush you were explaining for riley, i was just lacking the feeling like the actress was actually about to blush and then try to hide it and then lovingly look back etc. idk this one is really personal i think
sorry this was so long and i also hope this doesn't come off as me arguing i'm really happy just to be sharing my thought with you <3 excited for next week!
i think it's just up to personal interpretation! maybe i'm just not looking into it hard enough, but i felt that since this is a TV show, they can only focus on a few characters at a time. even if they wanted to show us a positive society without any sort of leader, it would be difficult to follow the story if we were bouncing around through a whole bunch of people, each with their own lives and ideas about the world they live in. it's a cool idea that i would happily watch, but it wouldn't fit with the (mostly) linear story they're trying to tell here. like, it was much easier for them to give maria this sorta-leader role because then she can be used for plot purposes and exposition about jackson. and there's always going to be some element of politics involved in apocalypse stories, but tbh covid has jaded me because i saw so much selfishness and greed arise from that, to the point where i'm burnt out and uninterested in the government systems and i'm much more concerned with the individual stories within. i probably should care more considering this show is so popular and definitely has an impact, but.... idk. maybe someday i'll rewatch and skip all the emotional scenes so i can focus on the rest of the show's message!
i think where we differ is that i like a more subtle type of acting. overacting is much more egregious to me than underacting. if joel had been sobbing or screaming his head off i would've been like.... 🤨 also it's worth pointing out that riley is a bit older than ellie and she's getting ready to do this very adult thing (essentially being deployed for war), so she's not in the same headspace as ellie is for most of the night. ellie is excited that her best friend just came back into her life, she's doing all these incredible fun things, and she's got butterflies in her tummy ;-; but riley knows what this night is really about. she's just trying to give ellie a good time, she's not focused on her own feelings yet. if everything had gone as planned, riley would've walked ellie back to the dorm, left boston, and then probably would break down and feel all her feelings when she's alone. i don't think she ever expected ellie to kiss her or for their relationship to go past friendship, so she didn't even bother getting hopeful about it. it's possible that i'm projecting a lot onto riley because this is exactly how i act when i'm interested in someone lol. sometimes i over-correct so hard that it seems like i don't like you at all, let alone feel romantic feelings towards you 😭
but either way i love talking about tlou in any capacity so please always feel free to share your thoughts!!!

Siblings (Or A Lack Thereof)

Day 2 - Siblings
Tumblr media
13 April 1987, Monday
A sharp, ringing noise dragged me from my sleep, and I groaned at the sound not too different from Rowan’s alarm clock. I waved my arm around, managing to whack my hand on my nightstand.
I groaned at the pain, pulling myself out of bed. I checked my hand, making sure it wasn’t bleeding. No obvious blood, I stumbled out of my room, grumbling about the sun. Morning rituals done, I made my way down the stairs.
The quiet unnerved me a little. I hadn’t seen Eileen or Elliott since arriving home last night. I almost absently grabbed one of the baked goods sitting on the counter, after trying to reach the cereal that was now out of reach and stubbing a toe in the process.
I wandered around the house, limping a little, noting the blinking light on the answering machine. The phone had to be what had woken me up, as I had left my electronic alarm clock here, turned off. For obvious reasons.
Heading back upstairs, I knocked on each of their doors, half expecting grumbling and “whaddya want?”s, but there was nothing.
There wasn’t even a note.
I puttered around, picking up the mail when I heard it flop through the post flap. Placing it on the table, I wandered over to the den, curious if there was anything interesting on the tv.
A half hour of trying to muddle through the soap opera storyline later, I gave up, flicking off the tv. I slumped back with a groan of boredom. After a pause, I stood and went over to the bookcase, and stared at it.
Nothing was managing to hold my attention, and it was 10.30 in the morning. I wasn’t even sure if mum was coming home, or what was happening with the twins.
I ended up scavenging the shelves out of boredom, managing to find a bag of marshmallows I liked. Mum came home as I was making attempt number two on the upper cabinets.
“Oh, hey…” I muttered, getting down and setting the marshmallows beside a box of cereal. “Didn’t know if you’d be home…” I winced a little at the pain of landing.
“I wasn’t about to leave you on your own. How long have you been up?” she asked, and I glanced at my watch, squinting as I tried to figure out how long it had been.
“Thr…ee? hours, give or take… Where are the twins?” I asked abruptly, suddenly feeling frustrated. “I haven’t seen them since I got here, and…”
Mum looked annoyed, either at herself or at me, and I stopped. She sighed, and set down her purse near the post. “I knew I should’ve said something…” she muttered, before continuing, “Your brother and sister were invited to spend the week up in Keswick by your uncle Jameson.”
I gave a shudder. With the exception of Great-Grandma Eleanor, Great-Grandpa Cyrus, and a few other great-aunts and uncles and a handful of aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, I didn’t really like either side all that much. This time of year in particular.
And really that uncle in particular. I restrained myself from swearing in front of mum. This was shaping up to be a great Spring break.
Not.
“Is- is the movie still on?” I asked, my voice quiet.
Mum nodded. “I’m taking Wednesday afternoon off to go with you. There shouldn’t be any problems with that.”

Movie Mishaps
aka A Funny Thing Happened Voyaging Home
@kc-and-co
Tumblr media
15 April 1987, Wednesday
This had to be a sign… I grumbled, poking my head out of my blankets as my alarm clock sounded unexpectedly, and after promptly shoving my blankets off myself, turned it off.
I thought I’d had it turned it off, unless dad had decided to turn it on and mess with me. I curled back under the blankets, willing them to block out the sun currently peeking out of the clouds.
I tried to go back to sleep, and I seemed to manage to do so for a little bit, but a nagging feeling at the back of my mind eventually forced me from bed. Along with the lingering adrenaline.
I needed to dig out my star trek uniform, considering I’d stuffed it in my rucksack in my haste to get down to the train. While it wouldn’t be a Starfleet admiral’s uniform (or anywhere near that), I still thought it would be appropriate to wear. Have a little fun with it.
I also needed to dig out the replica tricorder mum and dad had given me a few years ago, before I started Hogwarts. I would’ve loved to have brought it with me for Halloween, but I’d also been worried about how it would’ve fared in my trunk or in my schoolbag.
Morning rituals done, I headed back upstairs, before freezing.
Where was my bag?
I thought I had left it at the foot of my bed, but it clearly wasn’t there. I looked around, even checking under the bed. No sign of it.
I pulled myself up and headed downstairs. Maybe it was by the door. I checked. Nope. Not under the hall table. Or by the shoe rack. I darted into the kitchen. Maybe it had ended up next to the washer. If they wanted to know if I’d brought laundry, they could’ve asked…
Not there either. I huffed to myself. Where could it be…
It was into this that mum came home earlier than I expected. Not that it was a bad thing, just unexpected.
“Have you seen my star trek uniform?” I asked, the words blurring together as I headed back upstairs.
“Hello to you too.” Mum called back. “What’re you looking for?”
“My bag!” I called back, before checking under my bed again, as if it suddenly reappeared there. No luck.
“Found it!” she called, as I moved out from under my bed and I groaned, before heading back down.
“Where-?” I started, and she pointed to the spot next to the couch in the den. Seriously? How did it end up there?!
I groaned to myself, grabbing it and heading back upstairs. I threw on the uniform, not really caring that it was a touch rumpled. I smoothed down the worst of it on the shirt, as I came down the stairs, clutching the tricorder.
That, at least, had been where I left it, tucked just inside my wardrobe. Heading back down, there was a part of me, hoping I wouldn’t regret doing this.
A small bicker, a quick flick of mum’s wand and bags grabbed, we were on our way. I sulked a little bit on the short drive to the train station. It was a bit of a toss up as to which was quicker, but the train was a bit more direct today than winding our way into London by car. The walking would also do us some good.
Tickets bought, the short wait was quiet. I was glad I had brought a book to read, though, as there was a delay due to something on the tracks. I swore I saw a ghost hanging around the station we had barely left.
Walking through Waterloo, we headed for Bakerloo towards Queen’s Park for Piccadilly Circle, where we were due to meet dad near St Mungo’s. Thankfully, the delay hadn’t been horrible. We still had to wait for the next train, which annoyed me some.
So close, yet so far.
Once the train did arrive, it was a quick hop to Piccadilly Circle, where we emerged above ground and started walking in the direction of where St. Mungo’s was located. While it wasn’t my favourite place in the world (that was the reading room at the British Museum, and tied with the library at Hogwarts and the library at Northrup House in Keswick), it was where dad worked.
Quick greetings, we headed for the cinema not far from the tube stop. And it was busy, swarmed with people. I froze, before hurriedly following dad, as he dove into the crowd enough to make his way up to the ticket box, with mum trailing behind a little as she dug in her purse for something.
Catching up, she pulled dad away from the questioning he was giving the ticket person, much to their relief, handing him a ticket. We hurried inside, just making it and finding three seats close enough together. I wasn’t necessarily thrilled to be next to someone I didn’t know, but it eventually came in handy.
Because I really didn’t give a damn about the amount of swearing that happened, and a glance over at mum and dad said everything. They probably would’ve put hands over my ears several times over the course of the film, which would’ve been very annoying. I wasn’t regretting coming, though it looked a little like they did.

No blind date, please
Sunday, 14 February 1993
Tumblr media
@lifeofkaze
I swirled my spoon in the cup and waited.
For some reason, despite the fact that I had mentioned several times that I had a boyfriend, my university friends decided to try and set me up with a blind date.
This had to be a joke. A really bad one at that.
A glance at my watch left me contemplating leaving and confronting my friends later. This felt as ridiculous as Madam Puddifoot’s up in Hogsmeade, just without the confetti coming from magical floating cupids. If he didn’t show soon, I was bailing without explanation.
And probably the entirety of this plate of macarons.
As my watch read a half hour after I was supposed to meet the idiot, he turned up, and I scowled. This was not what I had in mind for Valentine’s Day.
It was Jeremy Kendrick, who was constantly flirting with me during the classes we just happened to share. I turned him down every time, most times pointedly telling him that I had a boyfriend.
But nothing seemed to work, and the teachers weren’t helping, constantly pairing us together for projects, ones I preferred to do on my own.
Considering that I didn’t want to do this, I thought I lasted the entire ten minute spiel on why he was a half hour late pretty well. Mostly by drinking part of my tea and chucking the rest in his face, before paying and exiting before he could follow.
Tomorrow, I was getting Charlie’s picture properly framed, and on my desk.
I dodged traffic getting back to my car, and I was glad I was out of there. There was only so much I could take of the glittery, frilly, pink decorations that left me feeling ill. And the rest of the macarons safely stashed in my bag.
At least those, a bottle of wine I liked, and a good stash of chocolate awaited me back at my flat. And possibly a historical or scientific documentary as well.
My luck continued back at the flat, as Jane, Rachel, and Shanelle were out. With who, I didn’t really care. The same with our other roommate, who was out with one the student groups she worked with.
Grabbing the wine, the chocolate, the napkin of macarons, along with some dinner, I headed for my room. With everyone else out, I wasn’t going to wait up for them to get back.

On the Hogwarts Express Home
@kc-and-co
Day 1 - Flying
Tumblr media
12 April 1987 - 3rd year
I dropped my rucksack in the seat next to me. Besides a handful of other, more religious students, there were a fair number of townsfolk from Hogsmeade on the train as well. I stuck to the compartment me and Rowan usually shared to and from Hogwarts at the beginning and end of every year so far.
I really wasn’t eager to mingle with the other students on the train, who had been eyeing me suspiciously when I boarded, and me them, almost daring them to try me. I pulled the curtains shut, before changing out of my uniform.
I was honestly surprised there weren’t more students, what with the boggarts loose in the castle. But I was glad to escape, even for only a week. Mum and dad promised to take me to see The Voyage Home in cinemas, after hearing about it all summer from my American cousins. In the process, I’d borrowed both The Wrath of Khan and the Search for Spock to figure out what the storyline might be.
I flopped down in the seat, the scenery flying past. It felt weird, riding the Hogwarts Express without Rowan or any of my friends. I was glad, however, to not have to deal with Merula.
What smile I had faded some. No doubt, she was whining about me leaving and wondering why I was allowed to go home, unlike most of the school. I sighed, before rolling my eyes to myself.
I didn’t need her to control my vacation, so to speak. Let her live in her bubble of misery. I shoved those thoughts away, before opening my bag and pulling out my Astronomy books. This was the one class I didn’t mind getting a head start on the essay or reading ahead.
And I suspected having access to my other science books would come in handy as well, should Rowan owl about Muggle Studies.
The rest of the ride was quiet, the scenery shifting as we neared London, Kings Cross, and late afternoon. The train slowed, pulling into the quiet platform with a hiss. I grabbed my bag, slinging a strap and carrying my jumper.
Mum was waiting as I disembarked, and I hurtled over. This had been one of the reasons I didn’t come home at Christmas, as much as I wanted to (with all the boggarts around and Merula).
We chatted quietly, as we made our way to the tube station. I kept close moving through the ticket hall, relaxing as we reached the platform. We had to transfer to make it to Waterloo, but it wasn’t long before we were on our way home.

My #1 post of 2022
If your MC had to be known for ONE obsession, besides the cursed vaults, what would it be?
(like Charlie and his dragons, Tulip and her pranking/rebellion, Jae and smuggling, Badeea and her art, etc.)
Mine? Ellie, besides the vaults, is known for Astronomy.

BOOK REVIEW: PEER REVIEWED BY KC LEONARD
⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
TROPES
Second Chance
Mutual Pining
Forced Proximity
Workplace Romance
Dual POV
Peer Reviewed nearly wrecked me at the 29% mark, but it was worth the journey I went on. As I described to my husband while reading, Jo and Isaac are two ships that keep somehow crashing into and passing each other in the night at the same time, and you can’t help but root for things to finally work out.
I love that the story takes us in chronological order of their story. Because of their history, it worked better to have all that information upfront, in order, rather than as flashbacks during the present. There’s just too much happening for them over the course of a decade and a bit for flashbacks to have been effective, so I’m glad I got to start at the beginning.
There is a ton of grief in this story, from family deaths to personal grief. It’s relatable to watch Jo and Isaac both lean into it and push it away at times, letting it fuel their decisions for better or worse. There’s a scene in the present timeline that reminds me of one of the most devastating TV moments I saw as a kid (if you ever watched Dance Academy you might know what I’m talking about it), and it managed to capture the same emotions as the show, even though I was reading it and not watching it. Different parts of this book elicited pretty visceral reactions from me, from having to double back to make sure I read a timeline right to taking a moment to step back and breathe before diving back in.
All in all, I love their story. I wish things had worked out for them sooner than they did in life, but they needed that time to grow into the best versions of themselves. It was the only way that, once they took the plunge, everything would click into place. It’s a heck of a ride to get there, but it’s worth it.

Critical Analysis
Collins, K (2013). 'Chapter 2: Being in the Game', Playing with Sound: A Theory of Interacting with Sound and Music in Video Games, MIT Press, Cambridge. pp. 69-70. DOI: 10.7551/mitpress/9442.001.0001
The book of my choosing is “Playing with sound: A theory of interacting with sound and music in Video Games” by Karen Collins (Also known as KC Collins). Karen Collins is an author and a filmmaker. She was the associate professor in the Department of communication arts at the University of Waterloo before joining Carleton University as the professor in School of Information Technology. During her stay at Waterloo University, she was also the “Canada Research Chair in interactive audio” there. Her main expertise is in the field of sound and music, user experience, game and film and tv. Author of 10 books on sound, she is also the director of the movie “Beep: a documentary history of game sound.” Her books have been published by MIT press including this book that I chose to do my analysis on.
Overall, the book gives a very in-depth details on how sound in video games is used, why is it important for players, how players associate themselves to different sounds in the game, voice overs, and playing the game with music. There is so much knowledge written in this book that can make me talk for hours and as a game designer, I do believe that sound is one of the most important aspects of the game. It guides the players through their gameplay and becomes a part of their memory and creates a long-lasting effect.
For this analysis, I picked out page 69 and 70. The topic is voice and role-playing games. The reason of my choosing is because it answers my one of the longest asked questions, "Why not all popular games have voice overs?". The games and their characters are loved by their fans and surely, they would want to hear their voices, right?
In the first paragraph, Karen Collins talks about how voices in video games empathize with the players. There are different kinds of approaches in this regard, some have full on voices, some have voices only in cinematics and some have only written text with and an icon to display what they are saying, which was often used in the games of the past. She mentions that some games allow players to change the speed of the text or voice dialogues. This is because ,for some people, it is easier to read the text than watching or hearing the voice to understand.
Karen then goes on explaining her thoughts with an example of an NDS game series, “Professor Layton” (2007). The game oscillates between using voices and text on screen in order to guide the players. The game uses professional voice actors to deliver the best experience to their audience. There even were two different voice actors for the child characters, Luke, for the North American version and the European versions. This is to symbolize the importance of getting the voice acting done right.
She mentions how the game was received with mixed reviews. Most Britons were very displeased with the American version saying the voice is not authentic as the character, Luke, was British. Whereas Americans thought that the cockney version was a little “too British.”
She then further explains us how Nintendo refused to add voices in their popular game franchises like Mario and Legend of Zelda series. This is because, despite new fans asking for it, it will alienate some of their old fanbase from the game. The games originally did not have any or minimum voice acting when they were first released. Some fans associate themselves to that and listening to the characters now with sound will just make them feel left behind or just not right.
When "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" was announced, the big question was “Will it have voice overs?”. Some fans were excited to see how the voices of their beloved characters from Hyrule will sound like, while other part of the fanbase were praying Nintendo does not give them voices as they enjoy the game how they enjoyed in their earlier days, with text on screen and music to understand the emotions of the characters.
I think this topic gave me a very good understanding of how game designers think and what difficulties they face while making a decision for a game. There are many things to look out for like not to change too much, not to make something stereotypical while also making the game fresh, relatable and exciting for players. Some players play for nostalgic feelings, who want things to be similar like the previous games in the series while some players play to see what the game has new to offer whether it be mechanic, character development or a twist in the franchise.
The voice acting is certainly a point of controversy for the company as some fans enjoy it while other do not. Instead of offending any fans from either sides, they want to keep the game fun with text and minimalistic voice lines like how Mario says, “Mama Mia” in Mario Games.  Using minimalistic way gives the fan an understanding of the characters emotions, their personality and sometimes, their determination. In "The Legend of Zelda game: Breath of the Wild", Link communicates by making sounds. They did a wonderful job in this game as in the game, the other characters have voice acting and they often ask link why is he always so silent. This gives the players who want to voice acting a message as that link cannot speak with all the pressure he is under.
I personally think the author makes very valid points when it comes to not just voice acting but also sound and music in games. She describes how music and sounds, over the play time, becomes an extension of the players. They recognize the music or voice or sound instantly. Music, voice and sound makes the game desirable for its player base. As a designer, I will keep this in mind and during further research as I would like my fans to remember my games by associating it them with characters or music, like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or sounds.

Note
long answer list:
5 • 7 • 12 • 17 ?
5. Whats your relationship with your parents like?
Me and my parents are on good terms I would say. I get along with them (still technically live with them when I'm not in school). I have been working on overcoming the trauma I received growing up, and I do butt heads with both of them quite a bit just because well I have very progressive views and they have very midwest republican views. Still things could be worse.
7. Talk about your favorite TV show as a kid.
Growing up I didn't really get to watch TV a lot just because for like the first 10-ish years we didn't have cable and then when we did I was either sent outside or my parents were watching something. I did however love pretty much everything on cartoon network when I could watch it at my grandma's, but I really attached myself to the like early 2000s TMNT show. Which I recently discovered is on Paramont + and I have my aunt's account info so I've been slowly rewatching that.
12. Whats your favorite season and why?
FALL! I can wear all my sweaters and cute outfits, but mostly my sweaters. My like entire wardrobe is catered to fall weather. My favorite holiday, Halloween, is also in fall and the season has so much of a nostalgia feel for me that its just so romanticized in my mind lol.
17. Whats your favorite city and why?
I absolutely don't have one. I'm from rural Kansas, graduated from a town that has one stop light in the entire town. The closest cities are Joplin, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas/Missouri and both those cities are kinda...... well lets just say when tlou TV show episodes showed KC and how bad the QZ was there, me and my younger sister joked that nothing had changed that that was just KC. I have had the ability to visit a few different cities like Chicago, Houston, St. Louis, Denver, and a few others, but I never really got to stay long enough to know if I'd like it like it. I'm not too much of a fan of Denver, just because when I have been to Colorado I have much more liked being IN the mountains rather than the edge. Idk if I had to choose, Id probably pick Chicago just because I had the most fun there, but that's purely because we did cool tourist-y stuff lol

I finished The Tenant of Wildfeld Hall while on vacation with my family in Orange Beach.
My stepsister spent the entire vacation supposedly sick because she drank too much five hour energy drinks (uh huh). The kids were left mostly to the care of myself and our parents. My younger niece spent the trip serenading us on her ukulele (she was three) and amusing everyone out in public by asking to climb into the mouths of giant shellacked swordfish, among other antics. I got a little antsy after four days and decided to walk along the beach and cross into Florida (wasn't that exciting, really).
When I came back, I had the kids to myself because my mom was dying to go to Florabama. So I chased the older niece around the living room for a while, she fell asleep while we were watching Disney Channel (the toddler had long since conked out) and I finished my book.
The TV was still on when my parents got back. Apparently KC Undercover crept deep into my subconscious and I was convinced for years I hallucinated that whole show. Nope, it was real.
Also, why did my parents come back early? Because my mom drank too much (probably wasn't just drinking, either), started dancing on tables, and they were kicked out. Fun times.
Anyway, anytime The Tenant of Wildfeld Hall comes up I definitely associate it with these shenanigans.
