I´ve had this thought many times before, why there are different ceremonies for the latin grammys and for the “regular” grammys. For starters there is a category in the “regular grammys for best latin pop album, so that kind of takes away the argument that they are different languages. And i find it a little bit discriminatory, because music is music, and there shoudnt be two diferent ceremonies just because the languages are not the same. 

Latin music throught the beggining of the century has been increasing in popularity, in the early 2000´s only people from spanish speaking countries listened to latin music, nowadays people all over the world listen to spanish music, in fact "reaggeton” is one of the most listened genres of music in todays world, and adding to that, the most streamed spotify artist last year was bad bunny, an urban latin artist.

Right now there have been a numbre of artist from Chile that have been getting media attention, like Cris MJ, who rose to fame with the single “Una noche en medellin” and right now that single has more than 800 million streams on spotify. Also there is a singer by the name of Jere Klein, who is just 17 years old and just performed at lollapalozza festival, and the list keeps on growing.
