Hello! How are you? I read your character analysis and loved it. You seem to know a lot about them. That's why I wanted to ask: Which members of Mysme are canonically bisexual? Besides my beautiful Jaehee?

If we're purely going by confirmation from Cheritz, then only Saeyoung and Jaehee have been confirmed by official media.

In the RFA game Package, Saeyoung confirms that he is bisexual and/or pansexual. I read him as bisexual, though, myself. Since that came out with the release of the game, it's easy to verify this and fact check anyone who says otherwise.

Jaehee, on the other hand, was verified over the years as Cheritz has continued to produce more and more media with romance involved between her and MC. I personally read Jaehee as lesbian, but since they've never used a specific label, she's open to interpretation but is queer all the same no matter what label you use.

Her Christmas DLC ending was the first nudge to something more outright romantic after Cheritz noted the support and excitement surrounding fans about Jaehee. However, it didn't stop there with a simple kiss on the cheek and support for her hard work during those holidays, Jaehee's Valentine's DLC has a metaphor for coming out of the closet, quite literally.

I know a lot of people are disappointed when her actual route doesn't seem as outright romantic as the others, but considering that they've taken our support seriously and have continued to create more and more romantic content for Jaehee? Nobody can deny she's meant to be read as romantically involved with the player just as much as the guys are. Come on, guys, there's rainbow motifs and they're wearing rings. There's no debate about this.

Now, Yoosung is an interesting case because as of the Saeran After Ending, he alluded to having a crush on Saeran but because of the varied translations throughout the ending, people scrambled all over the place back then to figure it out. The English has him say that he admires Saeran, the Spanish says that he's enamored with him, and I'm fairly certain the Korean text is even more outright than these are.

While not an official confirmation of sexuality, considering the fact that Yoosung consistently alludes to thinking Saeran is handsome, that Saeyoung is handsome, and even that their father is handsome, I'm gonna say it's reasonable to suggest he is attracted to men, even if the only men he's attracted to that we know of at this point are the Choi men.

Similar to this, Ray has moments throughout his route where he talks about how charming, handsome, and neat specific members of the RFA are. Zen and Jumin particularly fall into this category, and I can tell you as someone who's played his route backward, forward, and sideways, that you will get an abundance of hearts if you start talking about Jumin in a positive light.

Now, you can read into this as Ray's desire to be understood.

Jumin is V's best friend, and once he learns the "truth" he'll be in the same place as Ray. Betrayed by a man who they adored. That's not the only reason why Ray admires Jumin, mind you, but that's a big part of it. He thinks Jumin is smart, crafty, and knows how to handle himself. He isn't jealous if you ask to pursue Jumin.

In fact, his heart pops up when you leap at the chance to do that, and considering how jealous he can be about losing you to the RFA, that's nothing to scoff at. We can read into this as him analyzing them, sure, but there are times when his dialogue speaks in approval that makes you wonder. If I grabbed all of them, we'd be here all day, but if you're looking for it, you'll find it. If nothing else, he talks about his attraction to personality and how he can appreciate a good-looking man.

I'm sure there's instances of this with Unknown, too, but they're a lot harder to come across since he so often ghosts you to do his job for him. Whether it's about the revenge he's plotting or not, he sure talks positively about Jumin throughout the route. Again, no official sort of confirmation here but plenty to read into.

Thank you Kait for the previous post! Honestly it baffled me a lot as well when I come across that kind of people. Saeran/MC will never be codependent in my eyes when this phone call literally exists on day 10 of his route. We're not even going through the AE yet. That's right people. He actually knows and learning how to make decision for himself/what he feels right instead of following other people's choices 😩😩

People want to believe what they want to believe, and at the end of the day, I don't want to waste my time or energy trying to convince other people that Saeran/MC isn't what they think it is.

If they don't see the way Ray Route and the RAE is setting up the clear narrative foils between V/Rika and Saeran/MC to show the differences between an unhealthy relationship where two people are obsessed with the idea of the other and run with that and a healthy one between troubled people who're trying their best to make sense of the world together and by themselves, I don't know if they will.

I'm not saying Mystic Messenger does the very best job at explaining many of these themes narratively, but I am saying if you read what's in front of you and think about it, the answers are there and it doesn't hide itself from you. If you're looking, you can see it.

However, I know a lot of people don't understand the complexities that exist between V and Rika, either. I get it, I know why people are fast to hate them for justifiable reasons, but if you don't understand the dynamics of their relationship, you gloss over a huge part of the story when it comes to what the game is exploring with Saeran and MC. I'm not telling people to care about V or Rika when I say that, I am saying that if you want to talk about toxic codependency, then your answer is V/Rika.

Maybe I have an easier time understanding the dynamic between V/Rika because there have been times where I've been like Jihyun, and that uncomfortable mirror has helped me become a better person. I am grateful to Jihyun for that. Someone wrote in my tags yesterday that V and Rika aren't about who is the perfect victim or the perfect abuser, they're two unhealthy people who are trying to cling to each other to cope in the most toxic way imaginable.

Neither of them will ever be wholly innocent as their actions hurt each other other and many of the people around them. Could we argue semantics on who did something "worse?" Yeah, you could argue that up and down because there's layers to the things both Rika and V have done. But the core of their relationship is built on unhealthy codependency. They cling to each other and as long as they do that, they'll continue to burn like a wildfire.

It's not healthy.

Jihyun even acknowledged how unhealthy it was in the RAE for him to shelter Rika. It's that awareness he has that makes me upset with him, because he'll destroy himself to keep his promise, and in doing so, destroys everyone around him because of it. Sometimes, you've got to understand that your dependency on another person isn't the healthiest thing. You have to make boundaries and start working on getting away from that dynamic, or you need to go and straight up leave.

Saeran and MC do not act and react to situations in the Good Ending the same way that Rika and V react and act to situations that they're thrust into. Saeran and MC are partners, they work together, confide in each other and make decisions based on trust. But, what they do is not based on what the other wants.

MC: Would you stop working with them if I asked you to stop? Saeran: To tell you the truth, no, I'll continue on. If it was before, I would've done what you told me to do, but, I want to persuade you now.

V and Rika don't communicate like that. V "shelters" Rika from what she has to face even though he knows it's wrong because he feels like that is the only way to prove he is giving 1000% of his life to ensure his mother didn't die for "nothing". Rika leans into the obsession she holds for Jihyun, continuing to view him as a God who will save her from her devil, even though she knows, deep down, he can't save her from her nightmares.

God. They drive me up a wall all the time but they are the ones we need to look at if we're going to talk about characters who have an unhealthy attachment to each other.

Ann Nocenti made me want to tear my hair out for almost the entirety of her four and a half year run on the daredevil book but dare I say it might all be worth it for this panel alone.

Aaaa ty ty! I'm on book 2 rn and I'm really digging it so far! I've thankfully stayed blind to the series over the years, so it's really cool getting to read the twists and turns most probably experienced almost a decade ago lolol. I really can't wait to meet these two characters, I've seen them on my dash over the years from mutuals who are in that fandom and I just know I'm gonna love their dynamic. If you dont mind me asking: is that newish book you mentioned like a spinoff or is the pjo series still ongoing?? (sorry, i'm very out of the loop and i dont want to get accidentally spoiled by googling if possible)

waaaaa im very glad youre liking them!!!!! if youre on book 2 you still have a lot to read and you will see it gets better and better :3 its so good you didnt get spoiled abt anything given how old the books are (im also on that group that read them over a decade ago o7) so you get to enjoy the experience to the fullest!!! alsoooo if youre on book 2 ill tell you you will meet one of those characters very soon :3 the other i dont remember very well when appears for the first time but i think by the middle-end of the first series for sure. i must tell you tho you will have to wait to see them interact..

and oh right idk if you know but there are more than one series! the pjo series is the first one and then you have the heroes of the olympus series of another five books which is a direct continuation from the end of pjo series and adds some more characters too its very very good and a must read !!! after hoo theres Another series as well, the trials of apollo which has another 5 books, but this one i havent read but the first book. tbh the story ends well to me at the end of hoo, this third series also changes quite a bit the focus and ive seen some spoilers abt this series too and mmmm im not sure if ill read it. and that book i mentioned in the tags is more like a spin off yea!! i think it takes place after or somewhere in between the trials of apollo (thats part of the reason i havent read it yet bc im unsure if i should read toa before or not aldjsk). so yeah afaik the three series are completed but idk if rick will keep writing more books in the future or not so. who knows
