@bmkad07 i can't reply on the actual post bc this is a sideblog but anyway

1) i never said it was blackface, i said it looked like blackface. yes obviously rose has dark skin and is wearing bright pink lipstick. but considering that @xamag-homestuck is a non black artist who has never drawn a black homestuck character before now, at least not that i've been able to find (and yes i have looked through their blog to double check bc i dont like to rely on false information & assumptions), the fact that the only black homestuck character theyve drawn just so happens to resemble blackface, even unintentionally, is uhhh pretty fucking Bad. hell, they could've given rose a darker shade of pink lipstick and it wouldve been cool

1.5) and i know xamag can draw black characters that dont look like caricatures. they're actually really good about diversifying the people they draw! just not on the homestuck blog, where unfortunately this depiction of rose especially stands out because every other human character on there is drawn with the canon-typical white skin + white/black hair look.

2) i'm literally a black person. i have black family members, i have black friends, classmates, roommate, i literally go to an all-black school. i know what the fuck dark-skinned people look like. does this depiction of rose look like a cartoon dark skinned girl? yes. but she also happens to resemble blackface and that's really uncool

3) the fact that you dont see a problem with a non-black artist giving a black character dark skin and bright pink lips is really concerning. it's the same reason this shit was not okay in the US, so much so that they literally redesigned jynx to have purple skin.

again: it's not that they intentionally drew blackface. i'm not saying that. im just saying theres a pretty stark resemblance to it. and frankly, i urge them to seriously reconsider this tactic next time they approach drawing a dark skinned black character

HIATUS NOTICE

I, Jynx Cas Genuine-Possum, am taking a hiatus from tumblr from Thursday (03/11) until Tuesday (08/11) because I'm going abroad with my boyfriend for a family event.

Sadly this does mean that I will miss the November Fifth Celebrations of this year. I wish I could participate but I have a rule that I don't use Tumblr during these mini holidays so you'll simply see things I have queued or anything I scheduled for Nov 5 that I've forgotten about.
