PROMPT 2. & SCHMOOVIN’ & GROOVIN’

The evening is beginning to find its rhythm. Melodies expertly played by the school's orchestra continue to fill the air, lending a classic touch of elegance to the Ethereal Ball's magic. Have you already donned your mask? Or do you prefer to tackle the night head on?

In any case, the fun is just getting started, and there is much, much dancing yet to be had!

Freestyle!

[ Embrace ] - The sender gets in closer, practically embracing the receiver as they dance.

[ Hips ] - The sender’s hips don’t lie as they move boldly with the beat of the music, grabbing the receiver’s attention.

[ Whisper ] - The sender leans in, whispering something for the receiver’s ears only.

[ Dip ] - The sender boldly and dramatically dips the receiver down. Don’t drop them!

[ Spin ] - The sender lifts the receiver into the air, spinning them around. Don’t get dizzy!

[ Kiss ] - The sender takes their opportunity to lean in, intent on kissing the receiver.

[ Whoops ] - While they dance, the sender trips over the receiver.

[ Trip ] - While they dance, the sender trips the receiver over.

[ Improvise ] - The sender doesn’t know how this dance goes and tries to improvise, dragging the receiver along the way.

[ Freedom ] - The sender goes against the grain and makes up their own dance moves for the receiver to follow!

Learn new dances!

[ Archanea ] - An old minuet originating from the Kingdom of Archanea, a true classic that has stood the test of time. Due to its difficulty, successfully executing the dance is an achievement in and of itself.

[ Zofia ] - Modeled after an Archanean court dance, but with an energetic twist. The entire body is engaged with the dance, creating a spectacle that is enjoyable to watch.

[ Grannvale ] - An old waltz from before the rise of Emperor Arvis. It was popular during its time in the 750s but has now become a relic of the past, one that may not be as appreciated by the newer generation.

[ Elibe ] - An Ostian court dance where the leading partner wields a ceremonial sword as a part of the routine. This dance, meant to resemble a knight with his lady, is getting some attention from the students of Fódlan.

[ Renais ] - A choreographed dance from rural Renais. Two rows of partners stand opposite of each other, dancing as they move closer and away from each other like waves upon a shore.

[ Crimea ] - A traditional dance that requires quite a bit of athleticism to pull off. In addition to keeping up with fast-paced music, the dancers must perform a variety of leaps and flips.

[ Ylisse ] - The successor of the Archanean minuet, this waltz suits modern Ylissean tastes with easy-to-learn steps, a faster pace, and a closeness to your partner that continues to scandalize the older generations in Ylisse.

[ Nohr ] - A quick-paced dance that focuses heavily on precise footwork and bold movements, evoking the image of two soldiers in battle.

[ Hoshido ] - A synchronized dance that must be done by two people. To a slow and gentle melody, the pair moves with fluid purpose, evoking the image of a crane in flight.

[ Adrestria ] - A court dance that has spread like wildfire through Fódlan ballrooms. This waltz is best known for a special move that calls for the partners to join hands, together forming the shape of a bird in flight.

[ Faerghus ] - A slow-paced partner dance that allows both dancers to pull in close, practically embracing each other as they sway to the music. Popular amongst couples.

[ Leicester ] - An expressive, rhythmic dance that is only well-known in its homeland. Sweeping, dramatic movements and making noise with clapping and foot-stomping are required for this passionate style.

[ Morfisian ] - A sophisticated dance that celebrates the wondrous beauty of fire magic. In lieu of the Elementals gifting you the ability to perform this dance as intended, BOOMS has stepped in offering to help out. Fire magic dances upon your fingers and gives your face an ethereal glow.

[ Gristonne ] - An energetic and aggressive dance from the Gristonne Kingdom, it mixes fast, rapid turns and decisive footwork, evoking the image of an aggressive soldier in the midst of combat going toe-to-toe with their foe. Not for the faint of heart.

[ Lythos ] - A complicated dance performed by Lythian clerics, incorporating the choreography relayed to the former Divine Dragon Monarch by tales and demonstrations from pilgrims of the main four nations on Elyos as well as those from the Emblems. It requires mastery and control of tempo changes and willingness to move one's body in many different ways.

[ Zenith ] - A dance invented to celebrate the burgeoning peace recently established between the once feuding kingdoms of Askr and Embla. Long ago, so the story goes, these faraway lands had been meant to work in harmony. One land tasked with the closure of gates, and the other charged with opening them - this dance evokes a history of the back and forth of conflicting duty, eventually culminating in a tranquil hope for a better future.

[ Seven Minutes in Hell ] - A magical closet has been procured in the name of a popular dare-based game that shoves two people into a confined space for seven minutes and lets momentum do the rest. Apathy, affection, canoodling, holding hands, complete rejection, newly born puppy love, or nothing at all, all these and more can happen behind the mysterious closed door. The world is your oyster, but what happens when the closet...moves? Are the walls closing in tighter? The roof growing shorter? Uh oh. The seven minutes are ticking down! Claustrophobic individuals had best clutch tightly onto their pearls. Or each other.

[ Tangle ] - A curious, heavy blanket has been laid down in an out-of-the-way corner of the ball. On it are rows of circles, separated by color. Accompanying the mat is a wooden board with an arrow pinned to its center, and on this board: four quadrants, each with its own colors and separate labels: Right hand. Left foot. Right foot. Left hand. Supposedly, should you spin the arrow, you must place the respective body part on the matching color on the mat below. Easy, right? Now, add a few more people.

[ Makeup Parlor ] - A recent troupe of beauty specialists have been reserved to lend their services to the Ethereal Ball. Crushed pigments, rouge, blush, eyebrow pluckers, pore-blurring powder, mani-pedis, hair clippers, and more, they offer it all! Got an emergency to take care of mid-ball? Look no further! You will be back to turning heads by the time they're finished. What better way to look at the Ethereal Ball than irreproachably perfect.

[ Essar ] - Need a break from the go go go of the dance floor? Maybe this party game, (purportedly) originating from the territory of Essar, is for you! Cups partially filled with water are stacked at both ends of a long table. The aim of the game is to successfully launch a small ball into your opponent's cups before they manage to do the same to yours, and if you sink a cup, your opponent then has to drink it. Will you prepare your arc shots, fastballs, and bounce shots - or will you be first to Get Hydrated?

This was so exciting! Colm would be one of the first to admit—he had little to no experiences with formal dances—but this! This would be his chance!

(Really, it was just an excuse to hang out with his friends. If it was his choice, he’d never attend something like this without Neimi at his side.)

Not that it seemed to be his choice really. Not too long after he had fitted himself with his new jacket and fingerless gloves, the familiar grounds of monastery became a territory way better for committing petty theft.

He smiles up at the stars above, great balls of celestial Fire, but the smile doesn’t reach his eyes.

Colm will be running all over the place, alternating between chatting with folks and being a normal human being and roaming the ballroom looking for trinkets to snag. Would they be worth anything down the lines? How the heck would he know? But hey, at least when they all got back to normal, if they lost it, it could be blamed on those element folks!

Outfit

A deep blue suit jacket with golden accents, worn with a pink rose boutonniere. While the shirt and pants are nothing special (and the boots are the kind of things you can find Academy nobles wearing), the blue scarf is all his! He’s very fond of it (as you might imagine). Fingerless gloves because hee hoo i��m a master thief >:]

Could he have been fancier? Absolutely. But the jacket alone is way better than anything he’d imagine himself having back home, so he’s pretty happy with that alone! Leave his rat tail alone.
