Solitude
Tumblr media
Everyone knew that Hunters, every so often, needed silence and space of their own. Many Hunters went out into the wilds for that solitude, seeking the mud on their boots and the stink of Ether or organogel clinging to their cloaks and the pinging of bullets off armour to relax themselves, to clear their heads of whatever mysteries or secrets were locked away up there. Often they’d travel by themselves, planet hopping around the system looking for the next adventure or thrill to satisfy their needs. Sometimes they’d travel in small packs, thriving off one another and being goaded into doing whatever stunts they could come up with, betting glimmer and coming back richer or poorer depending on their skill. They craved the power they could just let loose with their Light, craved the burn of their flaming guns, craved the whispering calls of their tethers, craved the sting and crackle of their spears. This kind of activity is what kept Hunters feeling alive.
Cidrex preferred to stay inside the Tower when he needed silence and space to call his own. As much as he loved going into the wilds and getting his armour caked in mud and dirt and blood and trailing Ether and guts behind him, it wasn’t the atmosphere for him to clear his head in. However there were seldom few places in the Tower that actually provided the right atmosphere for him personally. He needed somewhere warm and quiet, somewhere familiar but not densely populated with Guardians nor suffering heavy footfall of those eager to turn in their spoils and receive their treasures. He wanted to be away without the mileage involved. He liked to be able to go to his favourite hiding spot and then be able to go home and see Spades and curl up in bed against the Exo’s natural warmth and all of this made him feel alive.
He liked the walkway between the Bazaar and the Courtyard the most. Well, the little alleyway in the walkway between the Bazaar and the Courtyard in particular. There was always the same Frame sweeping the floor at the opening, making sure the same little spot was spick and span over and over despite the pots and vases and urns on the ledges further into the alleyway that gathered dust slowly. There were a couple of lanterns too, never lit, and books piled up neatly, never read, on the ledge. There was a rack of panels and supplies of all kinds of odds and ends on the left-hand side of the wall, also gathering dust. The alley wasn’t really lit, it was actually quite dim towards the end where the doors there were always shut, but the main walkway was always bathed in warmth and sunlight or moonlight. It made for a nice, comfortable atmosphere where Cidrex could just sit down in the corner right at the end, sit with his back against the cold stone wall, place his remake of Golden Age headphones on and just be.
