In Nightfall, when Sophie went into emotionless zombie mode, it said all her friends tried to get her out of her funk. How do you think they tried to do this?

great question! I can only speculate, as Shannon neglected to share this information (likely because it's difficult to come up with just for one brief mention and she had the rest of the book to write!), however, I have an abundance of thoughts and poor time management skills, so there's a few possibilities floating about in my head

Fitz: cuddle-sessions. Sophie always gets really anxious (like shy) when he gets close and she becomes hyperaware of everything, so maybe physical proximity could help break her out of it because she'd become aware of things. And also its a nice support to have and fun to cuddle (when you're in a comfortable position, at least. They haven't gotten to a place where they'd be okay moving for their own comfort, but that's another thing)

Keefe: Okay hear me out I know this one might sound like Linh, but animals. He tries to break her out of it by reminding her of the things/people she loves that are still around and aren't currently kidnapped, so they hang out with Silveny and play with Iggy and all that. I don't think he'd joke with her at all, really. Instead, he'd recognize the severity of the situation and just how badly she's been affected and know that this topic is too heavy for him to make light of.

Biana: Sleepovers. She stays the night to check on Sophie and to talk to her for prolonged periods of time. I think she might purposefully try to make Sophie uncomfortable/do things she wouldn't want to just to get a reaction out of her so they can build back up to being more present. Little things like make-overs and painting nails and fancy outfits that Sophie doesn't like, so that if she expressed that it'd be a sign of actually feeling something for the first time in a while.

Linh: I can't decide if Linh would go more of a physical route and splash her with cold water to shock her into existence or if she'd go for a more emotional but complicated route. Breathing exercises perhaps? She might try to spend time around Sophie and share things she likes to try and get her excited/invested in them.

Tam: I'm going to pose a thought that he doesn't necessarily try to get Sophie out of zombie-mode, but rather watch over her while she's in it to make sure she's as okay as she can be. He's seen everyone fail and isn't going to convince himself he can break her out of it, so instead resolves to just watch her. They spend time quietly together and he's reading off to the side but watching her, making sure nothing goes too badly. I suppose he might have more realistic expectations of the impact he has

Dex: Poking her. He'd do the little snaps and patting her on the arm when she starts to get really lost in her thoughts. But it's all done very lovingly and lightly, almost in a joking manner like "hey bud where you goin?" if that makes sense. He may talk to her a lot to try and get her to focus on reality and listening so she doesn't get lost in the zombie-mode.

I don't know if the others are close enough to warrant them trying to break her out of it consistently, but these are a few of the thoughts I had! This is all speculation and I don't even know what breaking her out of zombie mode could mean--does it mean she's aware? Does it mean she's back to normal? so many possibilities!! and each character might see it different too, which affects their specific actions

But I am curious whether or not Shannon had any specific actions in mind when she wrote that line. she didn't need to in order to write it, but she could've!!
