you were going to kill Hal Jordan.
he knows you— he knows how seriously you take your job. as he kissed you goodbye and prepared for an excursion to Oa to meet with the Guardians, you’d warned him about not bothering you at work. he’d simply laughed and soared into the night sky, the emerald light from his ring casting the shape of a rocket until it disappeared in a twinkle.
and now, here you were, creeping into your company break room in the middle of your shift to check your phone, because Hal’s name had popped up in your messages. “Hal Jordan, you are dead meat—“
you’d started to curse your boyfriend, ready to be angry, when you open up the message feed to see a new media file. the thumbnail of the video snags your breath in your throat, and ties your guts in knots.
you loved Hal’s Green Lantern get up, and he knew it, which is why he was still ( almost ) fully clothed, the emerald attire sticking to each crevice and dip in his muscle pads like a second skin. the waistband of his suit is rolled down just enough to expose his package, and even though the play button is smack dab in the middle of the screen, it doesn’t fully obstruct the visage of his thick, hard cock lain against his belly. there’s a smirk on his paused face, and a dusky rose tint to the apples of his cheeks. Hal always could smolder with the best of them, and just a look would have you dropping your panties on command. even now, this still image of your man had your core getting slicker and more needy for him.
you couldn’t help yourself. glancing around, mostly cautious, you slip around to the corner furthest from the door, and press your back against the side of the employee fridge, before you pressed play. the video’s window overtakes your screen, and the very first second, your speakers are assaulted with a lustful moan from Hal. your cheeks heat up, and you scramble for the volume down button, hoping no one outside the door heard the noise. “I know you’re at work, baby girl,” he starts, low and slow, one thick palm rubbing up against his swollen cock. he sucks in a breath, before wrapping his fingers around it in a vice grip, squeezing until the pressure forces a grunt out of him, and he exhales in a shudder. “but I’m hoping you got the chance to sneak away and watch me for a minute.” Hal’s wearing such a shit-eating grin because he knows you will. he knows that you can’t resist the urge to watch him play with himself, even though you should be working. after a moment or two of silent stroking, his fingers dancing along the traces of the veins that bulge out against his flesh when he’s hard as a rock, and then he elicits a little chuckle, murmuring to the camera, “That’s my naughty girl. You just play a lil hooky and watch me stroke with my cock.”
you wanted to be mad. damn it all, you wanted to lock your phone and get back to work and not give him the satisfaction of watching his stupid, sexy video. just because you knew that he knew that you couldn’t resist the temptation. still, your would rather sever your own fingers before you would reach for the pause button.
Hal groans on screen, rolling his mop of unruly, tawny hair around on his shoulders, as his thumb traces the shape of his frenulum, and his tongue lists outward to wet his lips before he inhales, sharply. “I can’t stand bein’ away from you, baby girl,” and, of course, the classic Hal Jordan charm starts to come out. “So, I’m thinking about you being here with me. How I’d have you sitting pretty, right here between my knees—“ the camera shifts, gliding down until it was perched right where he says he wants you. you can almost imagine the constructs he’s using to give you such a perfect POV shot as the swirl from his power ring, and hold the camera steady at a height close to your own when you’re on your knees. Hal caresses the swollen, red tip of his cock, bracing the balls of his feet on the floor to push up a little with his hips, creating a hypnotic undulation akin to the rhythm he likes to fuck you to, only this time his cock glides through the entrance provided by his own palm, and he grunts in approval, the specter of a curse upon his parted lips. “You’d look so fucking pretty, like a little angel, waiting to give my cock a kiss.”
his voice was low and husky, just like you liked it, and when his hand slid down the thick column of his shaft, he used said grip to angle the tip closer to the lens, as if he were going to swipe it against your lips. you felt your stomach do a steep loop, and found your mouth watering. if you truly were there with him, it would’ve opened, and willingly accepted his girth for you to suck on, like you had so many times before.
“I miss your warm, wet mouth, baby…” Hal murmurs, his hazel eyes heavily lidded. “The way you take me in.” you could tell by the dreamy expression he wore that he was deep in his fantasy, seeing you there, sucking his cock. it deepened the red in his cheeks, and his lower lip curled in as his teeth sank into it, suppressing a loud moan into a sultry rumble in his chest as he pumped his cock. “You’re so good at sucking my cock, like those pretty lips were just made to wrap around me and blow…”
you felt warm all over, and soaked between the thighs. you couldn’t believe how erotic this was— huddled in the break room watching your man get off on video for you. your body was begging for attention, some way to relieve the pressure in your core, so you slipped a hand under the waistband of your uniform to press your first, two fingers against your pulsing button through your panties. it didn’t help. if anything, you only got hornier. if anyone were to walk in right now, you’d be beyond screwed. but, right now you didn’t care. all you cared about was rubbing against your cunny and the sounds Hal was making as he, too pleasured himself. “Oh, Hal…” you whispered, feeling the damp patch from your panties start to soak through and wet your fingers. you elicit a soft whimper, rubbing more fiercely, pressing your back to the fridge to keep yourself steady.
“Fuck,” Hal curses louder, hips bucking forward as he ruts into his own, slick hand in a greedy rhythm that could only mean one thing that he soon confirms, “I’m about to fucking cum for you, baby… you wanna watch me blow my load right now?” though you know he can’t see you, you can’t help but nod eagerly, your breath coming out in furious little puffs as you strum yourself. “Oh, fuck, here it comes, baby!”
Hal cumming has always been one of your favorite things to watch, especially times like this when you had a front row seat to the action. his whole body moves in an orchestra of pleasure, each muscle writhing and tightening beneath his flushed skin, especially his abdomen, which dances to the hurried rhythm of his ragged breathing. his hips rock forward as he eagerly chases his relief, and when caught, he erupts with a broken yowl of your name. translucent streamers celebrate his coming undone in spurts from his furiously red tip. the first shooting upward in a long, thin rope. the second has a significantly shorter arc, and the third, until he is squeezing just below the head, milking out the final, beading droplets, huffing and puffing, staring down at his own satisfied cock.
you were still playing with yourself, and had almost reached your own finish line when there’s a knock. for a moment, your heartbeat thunders against your ribs, and it takes you several, breathless seconds to realize that it was coming from the video. a deep, booming voice then calls out to your lover. “Hey, Jordan! Let’s go!” Hal flashes the camera a sheepish grin, one so cute that you nearly croon.
“Yeah, yeah, be right out.” he answers, before tucking away his twitching, soft cock back into his skin-tight suit. “Sorry to cut the playtime short,” he grabs the phone, now and whispers to it, “but, ya know, I gotta go save the universe. I know you’re probably so pissed at me for bothering you at work, huh? Watching me, your little pussy is probably drenched right now, and you’ll have to suffer for the rest of the day without relief. Poor, little baby girl. But just know, the second I get home, I’m going to make it up to you.” Hal chuckles, his voice dropping to a husky whisper right by the speaker, as if he were whispering a sultry secret right in your ear. “Because I’m going to pin your legs up by your head and eat your sweet cunt for hours, until you just can’t take my tongue anymore. Love you, baby girl.”

Marie and Jordan go to the Beach!
600 words
The sun peeked over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange as Jordan navigated the winding roads leading to the coastline. Marie sat beside them in the front passenger seat, her excitement easily seen by the smile on her face, as the salty scent of the sea teased her senses. Jordan decided to sport out their Cadillac convertible for today’s excursion. When they pulled up in the car to pick up Marie, she was very surprised. Excited yet surprised. She somehow didn’t know that they even owned such a nice car. On the other hand, Jordan seemed entirely nonchalant about the impressive vehicle they possessed, as if owning it was merely a matter of fact.
“Are we almost there?” Marie asked, craning her neck to catch a glimpse of the ocean getting bigger and bigger as they got closer.
“Almost, just a few more minutes,” Jordan replied, a smile playing on their lips as they glanced at Marie’s eager expression.
Marie decided to dress for the sunny day. She wore a simple yet charming yellow sundress, that reached just above her knees. Golden sandals to match and her hair up in a loose bun. And Jordan, wearing a white tee and yellow swim shorts (Marie insisted they matched with her wanting to look as “couply as possible” so she can take cute pictures. Jordan didn’t mind though, knowing that they secretly enjoyed that they looked “coupley” too.) They had sunglasses on, the type of sunglasses where you can’t see their eyes no matter how hard you tried or how close you were to them. They insisted to Marie they had to wear them– to maintain some level of ‘cool’ and ‘mystery.’ Marie didn’t get it but went along with it anyways.
As they approached, the rhythmic sound of crashing waves grew louder, a sound that welcomed them to the beach. Jordan parked the car, and Marie practically leaped out, her eyes wide in awe as she took in the vast expanse of sand and water. She ran ahead, too excited to wait for Jordan to get their stuff from the car.
“It’s beautiful,” she gasped, a smile spreading across her face.
Jordan grinned, feeding off Marie’s excitement. “C’mon, let’s go explore,” they said, taking her hand as they headed toward the shoreline.
********
The sand was cool beneath their feet as they strolled along the edge of the water. Marie giggled as the gentle waves tickled her toes, sending shivers of delight up her spine. Seagulls soared overhead, adding to the picturesque scene.
“Have you ever been to a beach before?” Jordan asked, being able to look down at her while in their male form, watching Marie with an adoring gaze.
Marie shook her head, her eyes still fixed on the mesmerizing dance of the waves. “Just once,” she confessed, a touch of nostalgia in her voice. “Before my parents… we had gone to the beach for a family day. Though, it started pouring rain as soon as we got there. We left as fast as we arrived,” Marie chuckled sheepishly.
“Well we gotta make this the best beach date ever then huh?,” Jordan teased, pulling Marie into a spontaneous twirl. Marie giggled when she finally landed on their chest. Feeling her excitement returning once again, she quickly yelled “Let’s go!” before grabbing Jordan’s hand again, pulling them closer to the water.
*******
They laughed, the joy of the moment lifting their spirits higher. Marie’s laughter echoed along the shore, a sound that filled Jordan’s heart with warmth. Truthfully, Jordan never cared for the beach. It was fine, nothing spectacular they always thought. Every time they’d go with their family it was too hot, too crowded, and just a bit too beachy. But the second Marie mentioned wanting to go to the beach for the first time to them, the forgot the reasons why they didn’t care for it.
After a while of walking (and Marie excitedly pointing out and collecting every pretty seashell she finds), they found a cozy spot on the sand and settled down, watching the sun descend lower into the sky. Jordan had packed a small picnic, complete with sandwiches, fruit, and sodas they got from a vending machine on campus.
“This is amazing, Jordan,” Marie smiled softly, sitting crisscrossed on the picnic blanket. She picked up a strawberry, taking a bite from it. “Thank you for bringing me here.”
Jordan beamed happy from the praise Marie gave them. Shifting into their female form, they crawled to lay next to her, placing their head on Marie’s lap. “I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Felt like we both deserved a break and just have time to enjoy life.” Marie smiled down at them, giving them a quick kiss on the lips.
They chatted more than they ate, and well, Marie insisted to feed Jordan a strawberry like she’s seen done in so so many romance movies. Jordan found it corny but still let her do it anyways (they just couldn’t resist the urge to nip her finger, knowing the type of response they’d get back)
They spent the day building sandcastles, chasing seagulls, and collecting seashells. Marie’s laughter was infectious, and Jordan couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment wash over them as they watched Marie marvel at the beauty around her.
As the sun continued its descent, painting the sky in vivid shades of pink and gold, Marie took Jordan’s hand and led them toward the water’s edge. With the waves lapping gently at their feet, they stood there, watching the sun dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow across the sea.
*******
“It’s like a painting,” Marie whispered, her eyes fixated on the breathtaking sight.
“Yeah, and you’re the most beautiful part of it,” Jordan said softly, turning to gaze at Marie, their heart overflowing with affection.
“You’re so corny, oh my god! I can’t believe you just said that!” Marie couldn’t help but laugh.
“Don’t act like you don’t love it,” Jordan wiggled their eyebrows teasingly.
Marie could only smile at them, leaning down to pull them in for a soft kiss. “Yeah, I do love it.”
They sat there, Jordan’s head resting on Marie’s shoulder, taking in the serene beauty of the moment, each lost in their own thoughts yet connected by the experience.
As the sky darkened and the stars emerged, they began packing up, albeit reluctantly, sad that they’d had to soon resume their stressful lives of being college students. Still, they left happier than when they came. Marie finally being able to say she had been to a beach and having an amazing time. And Jordan, whose new favorite place to be (besides Marie’s bed) is the beach.

1950 1218 on the 'Ten' - Jim Jordan
NORTH MEETS SOUTH when two historic rail-mates, the “1218” and the “Tenn” bridge, form a striking partnership of classic train regalia, as depicted by Chattanooga’s own train artist, Jim Jordan. The “1218” steam engine (Class A 2-6-6-4) was built in the Norfolk & Western Roanoke Shops in 1943 during World War II at a cost of $163,872.00. After 16 years of service life pulling fast freight in the Ohio and West Virginia region, the “1218” was retired at Crewe, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, the engine was scheduled to be cut up for scrap. But fortunately, after several exchanges of ownership, the “1218” journeyed instead to the Roanoke Transportation Museum in 1970. Five years later the engine’s trek continued to the Steam Shops of Southern Railway in Birmingham, Alabama, where it was completely rehabilitated. On March 26, 1987, the “1218” hit the rails again as the biggest member of Norfolk Southern steam fleet. It is currently running scenic tourist excursions throughout much of the Southeast.
THE TEN
Once only a primitive Civil War crossing over the Tennessee River, a double track bridge with vertical lift was designed and constructed by the American Bridge Company in 1911, just north of the city of Chattanooga. Commonly called the “Ten” by railroaders, the bridge’s total length is 1800;, stands 170' from normal water level, and has a unique “open in” draw span of 310' in length which raises vertically using large counter weights and cables. This artist’s love of trains compelled him to use this particular scene of the “1218” crossing the “Ten” which is situated just below the TVA-Chickamauga Dam in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Jackal
Last week I promised you an intro based on the ‘CJ Does the Jackal’ scene from the West Wing.
No doubt you have all been on tenterhooks in anticipation of this, so I will delay no further…
A bit of background, AKA:
Intro to the Intro
The West Wing is a TV show about a fictional Presidential administration. In this particular episode, they have finally managed to secure the nomination of their preferred candidate to the Supreme Court.
This was a multi-episode struggle, so understandably everyone is pretty pleased, and they are having a bit of a party in The West Wing (ooh, it’s the name of the show!).
Everyone is spread around different rooms, chatting and drinking and revelling in their political success, but whispers of an upcoming event start drawing them all together.
CJ is going to do the Jackal…
CJ’s doing the Jackal…
The Jackal…
The Jackal…
As viewers, we are led to wonder what this could possibly be — is she going to impersonate a Jackal? Is it code for something even more outrageous? Why are they all so excited and converging on her like they’re about to witness something as scandalously titillating as The Entertainment from Infinite Jest?
No, instead we see her lip-syncing with almost zero energy to The Jackal, by Ronny Jordan feat. Dana Bryant.
If this had been on Ru Paul’s Drag Race the Internet would have broken from the sheer lack of slay. Cries of ‘Noooo, Queen!’, would abound. The level of charisma is almost purposefully non-existent, but all the other characters are losing their minds over it.
‘Don’t talk to me during the Jackal’, says Toby, sanctifying the experience further.
Usually, when a piece of media teases something as monumentally mind-blowing as The Jackal, they don’t show it to you. They instead show restraint and maintain the mystery, because whatever they could show would never be able to live up to the hype they have built for it.
There is a reason that Infinite Jest never tells us what happens in The Entertainment (a film so engrossing that anyone who watches it dies of addictive bliss), or that Gavin and Stacey never explicates what happened on the Fishing Trip (an ill-fated excursion into a storm).

Trying to explain them removes the intrigue — when these things exist in the realm of speculation they are far more compelling.
The Jackal demonstrates why it is sometimes best to go against the ‘show, don’t tell’ maxim of storytelling.
Onto the episode, which was between Cardiff and St Andrews.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bf691053435d33d5dbf1c70edf6ff84c/5ded7ebdd26a5ebe-b2/s540x810/385641afce5343581196a156a1a099fc4db0a459.jpg)
Here’s your first starter for ten.
Buffet-Mogel kicks things off with a rapid buzz of the Count of Monte Cristo, winning a bonus set on island-based animals. They are perhaps harshly penalised for saying Tasman devil instead of Tasmanian devil.
Rosas extends St Andrews’ lead with Gibraltar, before Tarsala gets Cardiff off the mark with masala. She stumbles a little over the word, as if realising in the moment how similar it is to her own name when Tilling announces her.
Gilbert closes the gap further with the picture starter, and gives Cardiff the lead with Japan on the next buzzer question.
Holm extends this with Rossini, and the Welsh side are on a roll now. Boyling becomes the fourth member of their team to take a starter with Gamma.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d60dbf99aa619349676513711adc8ff0/5ded7ebdd26a5ebe-a9/s540x810/19df9335266abb28400c341eade29cb876686144.jpg)
Skerrett wins the music bonuses for St Andrews with mahjong on the replacement starter. They don’t know any of them, and Rajan chides them as if listening to any music not from this era makes them culturally vacuous.
Capell goes for the obvious guess of The Turner Prize on a question about an art prize won by someone British, winning St Andrews a bonus set on countries which have a different starting letter in English and German.
They dilly-dally a little on the second of these, prompting Rajan to say, ‘Hurry up and give yourselves a chance of a high score.’ However, at this point, they are a mere 15 points behind, with more than 5 minutes left in the episode, and indeed they took the lead on the very next question.
They don’t hold it for long though, because Holm and Cardiff tied them with base on the following starter, before Tarsala stole the lead with Inuit.
Skerrett managed to bring St Andrews back level, but Cardiff didn’t give them another opening, claiming the last three starters and romping to a misleadingly comfortable win.
St Andrews 145–200 Cardiff
St Andrews will most likely return as a high-scoring loser as Rajan had encouraged, as all three losing teams from the final three episodes would need to beat their score to push them out.
Cardiff enter the second round as a very well-rounded team, their eleven starters being almost equally distributed among all four team members.
Join me next week for Edinburgh vs Leeds, and subscribe so you don’t miss out on any reviews!

Chapter Twenty (Part 2)
We bike down to the beach together at the warmest part of the day, and because there are only three bicycles, one for Claire and each of her parents, Jude and I decide to share. We take a wobbly ride down the road, all cracked tarmac and chunks of loose rock as I balance on the handlebars. I feel free with the wind in my hair, and I’m reminded of the night that he took me to the abandoned church years ago, a bike ride I was almost sure for several moments that I wouldn’t survive. Jude isn’t like that anymore. He’s careful with me as though I’m something precious he’s afraid to break, and the only time he takes his hands off the handlebars is to join me as I stick both my fingers up at a car full of men who wolf whistle at Claire. We shout obscenities at them in every language we know, but I don’t think that anybody knows anything sufficiently offensive in Greek.
When the sea opens up ahead of us along the coastal road I think I might start to cry. It’s like I’m in a film. Irish waters are a different blue to this. They’re greener, murkier and foamier, beautiful in their own wild and dramatic way, but this slice of the Mediterranean is so clear that I can see the pale sand at the very bottom and a shoal of fish that swims around a small sea stack like the fluid stroke of a brush.
“Woah, don’t lean like that,” Jude warns me. “I’ll lose control and hurl us over the cliffs.” I stare ahead instead to where Claire and Shane swerve down the slope of the road and into the heart of Pissouri village, with its white brick walls and red slate roofs, where the beach opens up ahead of us like the doors of a cathedral. It’s so achingly beautiful that I could fall to my knees and pray to it.
Before I even unroll my towel I am stripping myself down to my swimming togs and running towards the sea like it’s calling me home. “Bit eager,” I hear Shane comment as I go, but I don’t care. I am straight in, head under the turquoise water, my fingers digging into the snow white sand on the seafloor and I watch the interesting shapes and colours of the diffused light until the salt stings my eyes too much and I need to come up for air.
“Jesus,” Claire is saying to me, up to her thighs and no further. “You really went for it, girl. It’s a bit cold.”
“It’s lovely,” I whip wet hair away from my face and spit salt water down my chin. I feel like my enthusiasm is a bit ferocious, considering none of the locals on the beach are swimming, but I don’t really care. I wade in until the sea laps around my chin and I have to stand all the way up on the tips of my toes to touch the bottom while Jude pulls his t-shirt off and dashes to join me. At the same moment, Shane tosses a ball at him far too hard and it flies over his head and lands somewhere close to me. “I have it,” I call out, and toss to Jude, who again, misses it, falling sideways into the water with a dramatic slap in his attempt to snatch it from the air. He surfaces glossy and sleek like a dolphin with the ball in his hand, and he tosses it to Claire who shrieks when it skims the surface and sprays cold water up her torso.
“Let me get all the way in before getting me all wet! I’m not ready.” And then Shane comes out of nowhere with an arm hooked on her waist and dunks her in like he’s baptising her in the river Jordan. I laugh until my stomach hurts, and while she’s spluttering with outrage and Shane is experiencing instant regret and profusely apologising, I think seriously about saying something soft and emotional about how happy all three of them make me and how glad I am to be here with them. I don’t have a chance to because the ball comes for me next and I have to abandon my sentimental side to catch it.
An hour later, Jude and I dry off in the sun while Shane and Claire head off on an excursion to locate some bottled water. I watch them going for ages, hand in hand, laughing and bumping off one another like they’ve just started going out, not like a couple that’s approaching their fourth year together.
“They’re so happy together lately.” I say, flipping over on my towel to get some midday heat on the backs of my legs.
“No need to sound so accusatory.” Jude chuckles.
“I’m not, it’s just an observation. They’ve been so loved up the last few weeks, it’s just a pretty stark contrast after the months on end they spent arguing in the kitchen.”
“I guess they’ve just worked it out. I’m happy for them.”
“Yeah but I’m just curious about what’s changed all of a sudden. I wish they’d just tell us.”
“Well, they will in their own time, I’m sure.” He says, and picks up the can of suncream. “Do you want me to get your back? It’s been like two hours since you last put it on.”
“God, you’re so attentive.” I say.
“Again with the accusations,” He quips, and sprays it onto the small of my back. My eyes flutter closed at the sensation of his hand on my skin. “He’s always been obsessed with her anyway,” He continues. “I’m not that surprised that he’s compromised for her, I really think he’d do anything if it meant keeping her forever.”
“You think that’s what’s happened? He’s compromised?”
“He’s finishing his degree, right? Isn’t that a compromise?”
“What if she’s compromised?”
He moves to the skin between my shoulder blades, “What would that involve?”
“Dunno,” I tug my lip thoughtfully between my teeth, “Shane just seems too happy about finishing up that course, it made him so unhappy, and he’s just so stubborn,” I peer at Jude, “Do you think you’d give up on your dreams for a girl?”
“Hm,” A line comes between his eyebrows. “Depends on what dreams and what girl.”
“What’s your dream right now?” He sprays sun cream onto my upper thighs and I move quickly to rub it in before he can.
“Work-wise?”
“Yeah.”
“You know,” He sighs and leans back into his towel with a distant look out over the sea, “I’ve been thinking more and more about getting into film after college.”
“Film?” I echo, surprised.
“Mm, like, my degree could open up some possibilities in things like props and practical effects, and honestly I really really like the sound of that. It seems like something with real purpose. I’d love all of that stuff, I’ve just been researching so much about it and watching all of these videos about the process,” He looks at me and his eyes are dancing, “You know, like the way that they make all of those specialty objects for Wes Anderson movies, I like to imagine myself doing that, I’d be so good at it. I’m so detail oriented, it just seems perfect.”
I kind of feel bad asking him my next question because he seems so thrilled by the idea of his future, but the whole point of this conversation is the ultimatum, “Would you give that up for a woman?”
“It depends if she would ask.”
“Hypothetically, she would.”
“Is this woman you?”
I pause. “I don’t think I’d ask that of you.”
“Hypothetically.”
“Yeah, okay, this woman is me then. And I’m asking you to give up your Hollywood practical effects dream and come and live with me in Tullamore and get a job in the local insurance firm.”
‘Then yeah, I would.”
“Really?”
“I wouldn’t be thrilled about it, but yeah, I mean, if that’s what you really wanted from me then I’d probably do it.”
“Wow.”
“Am I being too intense?”
“A bit.”
He shrugs. “Maybe I wouldn’t then. It’s an extreme scenario anyway, I really don’t think you’re going to move back to Tullamore and expect me to become an insurance broker.”
“No,” I agree, “I’m definitely not going to do that. There’s no art scene there anyway, unless I ran some sad art gallery in the town that sells boring paintings of sunflowers in big white jugs and cards made by kids in the local primary schools.”
“So realistically, where are you going? What’s the compromise?’
“London,” I say, and the word slips from my lips too easily, a dead giveaway to the fact that I’ve thought about this before. Extensively. “I don’t know. I’ve always wanted to live there, it sounds so exciting.”
“I bet there’s a great art scene.”
“Exactly,” I turn over to face him, and my hand reaches out to clutch on and help him to understand how much I want this. Hypothetically. “I just want somewhere bigger, and better, where you’ll never see the same person twice, not on the street or the bus or the tube, it’s just so fluid and dynamic. I’m obsessed with the idea of being unknown, and yet having this incredible space to create, surrounded by other amazing artists, and there’d be so much to do, I’d never ever be bored. I could go to exhibitions and plays and gigs every night of the week. I would be fabulous… But that’s not the point,” I add self-consciously, “If I wanted to move to London, would you give up your dream to come with me?”
“Still yes, but I wouldn’t have to give up my dream to go to London. I could do the film stuff there.”
Wild, unfettered excitement swells inside me and bursts into a million tiny stars in my chest. “You could,” I realise. “We could both be happy there.”
“Uh huh.”
“Am I being too intense now?”
“I like intense,” He splits into a grin and we squeeze each other’s hands, and I realise that all of the things that frightened me about him are slowly dissolving, bit by bit. The fear that he will hurt me, disappoint me, leave me behind, if there is any truth of promise now to the expression on his face, I’m suddenly certain that he won’t do any of those things. “For the record, if it was Tullamore I’d be happy too.”
I roll my eyes, “My God, you wouldn’t, why say these things. Nobody is happy there. I can’t even imagine it, you’d be a complete anomaly.”
“I might visit one day and love it, you never know.”
I have an invasive thought of him standing in the low-ceilinged living room of my parents house and shaking hands with my father. I shudder. As though reading my thoughts, Jude says, “Have you told your parents about me?”
“What? No, of course not,” I say, flipping back onto my front. “I don’t tell them things about my personal life.”
“Why not?”
“Because they’d start trying to find out things about you, and it’s none of their business. I just like to keep things separate, and like, something about having a romantic relationship seems deeply embarrassing. I don’t want them to know that I kiss.”
He laughs, “You’re so interesting.”
“Do your parents know about me?”
“Of course, you’ve been in their house about twenty times in the last month.”
“Yes but never while they’ve been home.”
“My sister has a big mouth, she tells my mother that I’ve had a girl in my room every evening between six and eight PM.”
My face burns, “Oh God, I bet Colette thinks I’m some sort of hussy.”
“She doesn’t, I’ve told her that I’ve met someone really special and that she means a lot to me, and she’s confused, because I’ve told her that you’re not actually my girlfriend, we just hang out, but like, in a non-platonic way.”
“Hm. Yes.” I mutter.
“And I’m like, yeah, fair, that part confuses me too, but it’s alright because I get to make out with her on my bed for like two hours and sometimes she lets me put my hands up her top.”
I am horrified, “You don’t.”
“No, of course I don’t,” He snorts. “What kind of fucked up thing would that be to say to my mother?”
In the distance, I spot Shane and Claire coming back from the store. Shane has a big two litre bottle of water tucked underneath his arm, but they’ve taken a pit stop to furiously kiss underneath a sun umbrella. I look at the sea cliffs instead, lit up the colour of honey and dotted with patches of dried brush. “Do you think I’m stupid for not being your girlfriend?”
“No, I don’t.”
“At times I think I am.”
“What difference does it make, Evie, it’s just a title.”
“Mm.”
“I think you’re a little afraid of doing things that go against your own personal script, though. I think you don’t like the idea of being a girlfriend, because you’ve never had to do it before, but it’s fine. What we’re doing feels like the same thing, you can call it what you want to call it.” A wounded look comes over his face. “Unless you’re actually not, like, committed to this and you’re currently seeing other people at the same time.”
“What? No, I’m not, when would I even have time? Are you?”
“Obviously no. It wouldn’t exactly be fair, and it would negate the whole STI test, wouldn’t it? If I was just hooking up with other women.”
“You got a test done?”
“Yeah and, oh, I forgot to tell you, I have everything.”
“Everything?”
“All of the STIs. I have the full deck.”
“Oh, crazy, me too,” We join hands. “We’re so riddled.”
“It’s worth pointing out that I’m actually clean,” He says with some worry, as though I might in some universe actually believe that he has all of the STIs. “Do with that what you will.”
“Oh, yeah. Cool. Nice,” I say, and turn my face the other way to hide this new blush that’s crept up.
“Yeah,” He says, “Nice.”

✏️ What is your fave fic from another writer?
In wrestling? Everything I've read from Drea @shes-a-voodoo-child ever; the starstuckness has faded, but the admiration remains. She's the reason I'm even writing for wrestle fandom/am on Tumblr, even! I am also really fond of @spaghettisaurusrex, @puzzle-paradigm, and whoever got me for the TCE's fics in the shadowboxverse, @fang-revives' FinJay fic about them as YLs (the one where they "train" alone together a lot before Jay leaves on excursion), and - out of left field deep cut! - this one Chad Gable/Jason Jordan omegaverse fic from years ago that was really, really good.
🤔 What’s one genre you’ve never written that you’d like to try?
I wanna do an all out magic is a thing urban fantasy story one day. Just need a good premise...
🎶 What music do you listen to when you write?
None! It tends to distract me more often than not, and when it doesn't...well, I'm not exactly listening to the music then!

Joe I know we haven’t talked in ten billion years but I must tell you that I went to Edinburgh to visit a friend and on the first morning of my stay, they said “YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING BUT HIKE ARTHUR’S SEAT FIRST THING WHILE IN SCOTLAND”, and instead of feeding me breakfast, they took me (plus other friends) to the base of the hill, and we climbed up the fucking steps instead of the slopes, and do you know what they offered me in kindness and goodwill?
these:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c3eeefae6b613e2437780817cdb5b725/d0bc44a57f008dde-11/s540x810/7b38eab2d2a8ae739809f5d2711f40b99fc9e4f5.jpg)
And not with any toppings either!!! Just plain OATCAKE.
Joe on god you have to tell me if I’m too uncultured to appreciate these because I took one nibble before realizing I couldn’t stomach this
YELLINNNNNNNG lmfao oh Jordan I’m so sorry. That’s a lot to tackle. Zero offense to your friend but what is going on with this whole excursion… although come to think of it any time I’ve climbed Arthur’s Seat I literally always go up the steps 😔 because then you can come back down the slope side and you’re closer to the royal mile….
Anyway. Not the point. Ok I know that plain oatcakes sounds objectively insane and that even among my own family members, it’s preferred to have a little cheese or fish paste maybe but personally?? We never have crisps/chips in the house so if I want a little savoury snack sometimes I will just eat plain dry oatcakes. Ugh the way your own saliva forms a sort of oaty malty mush… must be how horses feel. DELICIOUS
So idk whether your friend is just a freak like me? But I for sure would have taken you to get a proper breakfast first. Like a tattie scone at LEAST if not some cheeky morning haggis. And then we’d go to the Dynamic Earth centre instead to look at the big ice block 🙏 you gotta come back so we can rectify this
