new twister theme because it’s july and i’m waaay too excited for twisters babeyyyy!!

okay but on the topic of twisters, i’ve seen a very mixed bag of reactions on here, [lots of people simping for glen powell, people thinking it’s gonna be a hallmark movie just with tornadoes, and the small portion of people actually excited for it] i for one am absolutely off the walls excited for it.

the visuals look fantastic, the story looks interesting, and the characters don’t seem half-bad so far! i appreciate that they’re still paying a lot of homage to the original through certain details while still making it something that can stand alone. which is ultimately what i think the general consensus is gonna be when twisters comes out, ‘cause nothing can triumph what a classic the original twister is.

another thing that i was secretly hoping for but wasn’t really confident we were gonna get was cameos from actual storm chasers since it looks like the directors and crew really did their homework about having more accuracy about storm chasing than the original did [that’s my only main gripe with twister, actually] but LOW AND BEHOLD WE DID!! a chaser duo i’m subscribed to on youtube - skip talbot and jennifer brindley - posted a behind the scenes video of them showing up as extras in the gas station scene AND in the wind farm intercept scene!! so that just stoked me up even more because i was NOT expecting for my silly wish to actually come true.

case in point, i’m verrry excited for this film and it’s not hard to please me when it comes to most movies so i have decently high hopes!

Day One of CinemaCon is done, deaded, over!

The slate was pretty much as I expected sans any info on Dakota Johnson's MADAME WEB.

-Jennifer Lawrence was on hand to tout her sex comedy NO HARD FEELINGS.

-Denzel Washington and his MAN ON FIRE costar Dakota Fanning talked their reunion project, EQUALIZER 3.

-Also in a reunion project is Joaquin Phoenix and his GLADIATOR director Ridley Scott. Footage from Scott's NAPOLEON - starring Phoenix, was shown. As part of Sony's deal with Apple+ it will have have a sturdy theatrical run before going to the streamer.

-Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard- clad in Ghostbusters uniform - sent a set video message from their not-as-yet named sequel of GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE.

-Martin Lawrence and Will Smith sent a video message from set of BAD BOYS 4.

-Whether they're really playing in Glen Powell's girlfriend's face or just trying to drum up press for their l'il movie, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney were on hand to promote their rom-com ANYONE BUT YOU.

-There was extended footage of GRAN TURISMO starring Orlando Bloom and David Harbour.

Sharon Stone is 66 years, I think she is now a little bit too old for the role. Sydney doesn't fit the role for me, also she is not a box office draw yet, ABU did great but his other movies didn't. Is like saying Glen Powell is a box office draw, Twister needs to do well, His last movie Hitman hasn't been that a big success on Netflix

The Winner needs:

A strong mid 50's actress, She has to have sex appeal and high class look (Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Diane Lane, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchet, Jennifer Connelly, Julia Roberts, Marisa Tomei, Naomi Watts, Rachael Weisz) have to be more out there.

2. An A-list handsome young actor, has to look in his mid 20's and in a great shape (he got a tennis scholarship).

3. The daugther role could be a newcomer or a not that famous actress in his early 20s. She can't be this hot chick but an intellectual type, strong personality.

I think Glen is on his way to becoming a box office draw...mainly because most people like his films and he's in SAFE films that tend to do well box-office-wise. A lot of the films he's been choosing are things that people actually want to see on the big screen.... ABY, Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, etc. If he keeps playing his cards right, I can see people going to see films just cuz he's in them.

I like Nicole, Diane, Cate, Rachel and maybe also Julianne from the list you've provided. 😊 I'll be honest, it might feel a little weird to see Tom opposite Marisa or Naomi in a role like this, mainly because they both played mother figures to him in his prior films. I know...I know...it's just "ACTING", but still.... It's a bit WEiRD lol. 👀😅 Keep in mind, these sex scenes might be a little risque onscreen... 👀

I agree, the daughter could be a newcomer. I still think that the daughter role is important though, because keep in mind, the DAUGHTER is who the main character is actually in love with. I don't think we should just discount the daughter in other words. So I think it would have to be someone that Tom (or whichever lead actor they put in the role) has GREAT chemistry with as well! 😊

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten activity checks! Lindsey and I have been working behind the scenes at ironing out some changes to how we do activity checks, to give you guys a little more leniency while allowing us to stay on top of things with less stress / guilt.

Starting on Monday, May 8th, our activity requirements will be changing. Any account inactive for two weeks will be automatically unfollowed. Accounts that are inactive for one week, display inconsistent activity and/or are not replying to open starters will be warned. Checks will be done twice a month -- once at the beginning/end, and once in the middle. That should give people plenty of time in between and also a little more structure. I will have a more detailed post on this on Monday, as well as adjusting our rules then, so if you have any questions, please ask!

Another thing that we are introducing at this point in time is our 'extended reserve for future use' section, in which players can now reserve one face that they plan on developing a character around. Only one, however! We don't want to encourage face hogging, and if a significant amount of time passes, we will reach out to check and see if you're still moving forward with said character. We know (from our own current experiences!) that it can sometimes take much, much longer than one week to properly research and develop a character, and want to extend that courtesy to our writers.

We watched Shrek 2 (2004). IMDb link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298148/ Shrek 2 is a 2004 computer animated comedy film by DreamWork's Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. It is based on the 1990 children's book 'Shrek!' by William Steig. It is the sequel to Shrek (2001) and the second installment in the Shrek film franchise. The film stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murpy and Cameron Diaz, who were also the main voice actors in Shrek. Shrek 2 follows on from the events in the first film with Shrek and Donkey meeting Fiona's parents for the first time. Her parents are: King Harold (voiced by John Cleese) and Queen Lillian (voiced by Julie Andrews). Fiona's godmother, played by Jennifer Saunders wants to wreck Shrek and Fiona's marriage so Fiona has to marry Prince Charming (voiced by Rupert Everett). Shrek and Donkey team up with a cat called 'Puss in Boots' played by Antonio Banderas to foil her plans. For the action packed plot, see Wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrek_2 The film is memorable for many reasons, but my favourite scenes include: - When Shrek enters the factory, the receptionist tells him that the Fairy Godmother is out, but she is definitely in! - The factory floor scene where Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots steal a Happy Ever After potion from the shelves. Other potions break and spill onto the workers turning them into magical characters. - Shrek visits the potion factory and meets the Fairy Godmother. She tells him that there is no happy ending for an Ogre in a fairytale. - The prison escape scene where Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots are rescued by the fairytale creatures. Pinocchio is caught wearing a ladies thong! - The Fairy Godmother ‘I Need a Hero’ scene where Prince Charming tries to win Fiona over as the Fairy Godmother sings 'Holding Out For a Hero' to them. Shrek and the gang break into the castle to stop Fiona and Prince Charming kissing. It is a really fast moving action sequence. Other great scenes include: 

- When Shrek and Donkey meet Puss in Boots - (hairball!) 

- When Donkey turns into a handsome steed.

- The closing scene, which shows Dragon introducing Donkey to their new hybrid offspring! They are very cute little donkeys with dragon wings!

Shrek 2 premiered at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and was released on May 19th by DreamWorks Pictures. It went on to become the highest grossing film of 2004. Production of Shrek 2 began in 2001 before Shrek was completed. Mike Myers, Eddie Murpy and Cameron Diaz negotiated an upfront payment of $10 million dollars each for voicing the film. The studio added more human characters to the film and improved their appearance and movements with the use of new rendering software.

The animation for Puss in Boots was particularly difficult with a new set of production tools required to enable fur shading.

The soundtrack for Shrek 2 was composed by Harry Gregson Williams, who previously composed the score for the first Shrek film with John Powell.

John Powell was not involved with Shrek 2, he is however mentioned in the end credits. Shrek 2 was released on VHS and DVD on November the 5th 2004. Selling over 37 million copies, it became one of the best selling DVD releases of all time. A DVD called the ‘Whole Story’ featuring all four films was released in 2010. Blu-Ray versions of the film were released at a later date. Shrek 2 was released on 4K Blu-Ray in November 2022. Shrek 2 is regarded as one of the best animated sequels ever. It has an approval rating of 89% and 7.7 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequels are often not successful, but Shrek 2 proved to be fantastic family entertainment. I first saw Shrek 2 at school in 2005 and have enjoyed it ever since. It is not a film I have watched very often, but when I do, it reminds me of just how good it is. I particularly like the CGI effects with the texturing, lighting and realistic water simulation. Watching Shrek 2 makes me feel happy!

Secrets (1971)

Going through my list of "Watch Later" files on my YouTube account, I came across the subject of this post. 1970s British cinema is among the cream of the crop in the history of film and having people like Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Powell as the stars would be an advantage. Unfortunately, Philip Saville's "Secrets", which also includes Swedish film legend Per Oscarsson and Oscar nominated actress Shirley Knight, is part of the bargain basement collection of leftover soap opera bits and faux Ingmar Bergman scenarios.

The story takes place in less than 24 hours and involves a faltering marriage between two closed minded people Jennifer (Bisset) and Allan (Powell) and their daughter Judy (Tarka Kings). The opening scene shows Jennifer and Judy at the laundromat and like a scene out of "Rugrats", Jennifer leaves Judy behind for some fresh air. While she's being wooed by wealthy businessman Raoul (Oscarsson), because she reminds him of his late wife, Judy is led to the house of a fellow laundromat customer named Raymond (Thomas Ellice). On the other side of town, Alan is taking an exam for his job and strikes up a conversation with the female proctor named Beatrice (Knight). For the duration of the afternoon, the 3 members of this family are in the companies of complete strangers where betrayals and passions are prevalent.

"Secrets" has the formula for a fascinating story, but not much character development and plot progression is thought out. Director and writer Saville creates a trio of stories where none of the characters are fascinating, and you gradually care less and less about them while the film drudgingly goes on. Part of it is that the film is less than 90 minutes and leaves little to no room for the characters to gain any kind of sympathy with the audience. Most insulting is that of the plot involving the daughter, who is put in a situation of possible harm by a complete stranger while her mother is at another stranger's house. There is a moment where Judy straddles Raymond like two lovers making out that is done in the most trivialized and tasteless manner. The worst thing is that there is no consequence of this terrible act put forth on any of the parents or the girl herself. By the end of the film, every single character is held at the highest levels of contempt.

Bisset, Powell, Oscarsson and Knight are four acting legends all held in great regard in much better content, but in this schlock, they are maneuvering a script not worthy of their talents. Bisset, in particular, acts in the same passive monotone voice from start to finish, like her character commits adultery and neglects her child on a daily basis. Powell's booming voice is put to waste with boring voiceover monologues, that only demonstrate how childish his character really is. As the two respective home-wrecking lovers, Knight and Oscarsson bring little chemistry to the bedroom, with limp sex scenes that lack passion. Oscarsson does have a good scene where he recounts how his wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness after giving birth to their child and for only a few minutes, you'd think you were watching an adequate film.

The big secret about "Secrets" is that it's a terrible film that no one knows about, nor should ever see it and take seriously as a work of art. It's best viewed with Servo, Crow, Statler and Waldorf in the peanut gallery making wisecracks.
