Walt Disney Animation Studios First Animated Long Format Series Iwájú Gets New Studio And Gets Delayed To 2023
Cinesite has been awarded CGI animation work for the highly-anticipated series Iwájú — a Disney+ original set in a futuristic version of Lagos, Nigeria. This is the first time the feature animation and VFX studio is working with Walt Disney Animation Studios on animated content, having previously worked with Walt Disney Studios on live-action features such as Mary Poppins Returns and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
The series is being produced by WDAS in collaboration with Pan-African entertainment company Kugali (kugali.com), and is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.
Iwájú, a name that loosely translates to “the future” in the Yoruba language, is set in Lagos and will explore deep themes of inequality, innocence and challenging the status quo.
“This show will combine Disney’s magic and animation expertise with Kugali’s fire and storytelling authenticity,” said Ziki Nelson, who cofounded Kugali with Hamid Ibrahim and Tolu Olowofoyeku with a mission to tell stories inspired by African culture through comic books, art and augmented reality.
Cinesite’s London and Montreal teams will be working with Disney Animation and Kugali leadership. The series is directed by Nelson with the Disney Animation team being led by producer Christina Chen and VFX supervisor Marlon West (Frozen, Frozen II, Moana), under the helm of Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer, Jennifer Lee. Cinesite’s production team is led by producer Joel MacDonald (Riverdance: The Animated Adventure, The Addams Family) and VFX supervisor Ellen Poon (Hero, Monster Hunt).

The Oscars II
Jewellers Sydney
Well, these seem to have been the most compelling Academy Awards in years, due to the battle between traditional values and the 21st century. However in jewellery this year the conservatives generally won.
Jewellers Sydney: The Diamond Jewellery of the Oscars 2019
Lady Gaga in the ultimate Tiffany necklace was not the only star on the red carpet whose jewellery thrilled though. Charlize Theron wore a pale blue backless Dior couture dress, new bobbed brown hair and not one but two Bulgari diamond necklaces, the 80 carat Serpenti and a tennis necklace as well as diamond bracelets and rings and huge, vivid diamond, sapphire and emerald drop earrings. Laura Harrier wore an eye-catching emerald and rubellite Bulgari necklace, and Gemma Chan in her pink Valentino had different Bulgari earrings — one in sapphires and one in emeralds — and diamond barrettes in her swept-back hair, spelling out ‘love’.
Harry Winston’s elegance dazzled. Laura Dern wore a strapless Rodarte with a 54 carat diamond necklace and her glasses. Sarah Paulson wore an unflattering, high-necked pink dress with a 55 carat Guipure diamond necklace and round brilliant diamond micropavé earstuds. Helen Mirren was in pink too — a Schiaparelli — exuding confidence and poise, and dripping with diamonds. Jennifer Hudson wore a striking pair of Winston vintage 1972 diamond chandelier earrings.
Rachel Weisz’ 1903 Belle Epoque Cartier brooches reset as a headband for their much exhibited Archive Collection will start a new trend, but it remains to be seen if her red beaded Givenchy and PVC cape will. Glenn Close wore vintage Cartier earrings and rings with her caped, beaded 40lb Carolina Herrera dress, while Amy Adams was in a skin-tight, beaded Versace dress highlighted by Cartier pieces, including a 1935 diamond brooch clipped onto a tennis necklace. Letitia Wright wore champagne-coloured Dior with her Cartier jewellery.
Chopard is owned by Michelle Yeoh’s ex-husband Dickson Poon and she was wearing swinging linear Chopard earrings and a spectacular 47 carat floral diamond wrap bracelet with her Elie Saab sequinned, off-the-shoulder lurex gown. Allison Janney was slim in red and US$4 million worth of Chopard diamonds, and Regina King was splendid in an ivory Oscar de la Renta with a 53 carat cuff. Olivia Colman’s high-necked green Prada was highlighted by her three Chopard earrings.
It’s fun to see what the stars are decked out in — but when you want something of your own call Karen at Diamonds by Design.

Weighted blankets are trendy, but will they help your child fall asleep?
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/weighted-blankets-are-trendy-but-will-they-help-your-child-fall-asleep/
Weighted blankets are trendy, but will they help your child fall asleep?
Weighted blankets are all the rage right now.
These blankets are supposed to mimic deep pressure touch stimulation and have a calming and soothing effect. Often, they are used by those who have a hard time sleeping through the night — but are they safe for children?
READ MORE: Can’t fall asleep? How to create the perfect sleep environment
“If you’re stressed or you have bad sleep habits, you’ll have trouble falling asleep and will likely have anxiety around bedtime,” Evelyne Martello, a sleep clinic nurse at the CIUSS du Nord-de-l’Ile-de-Montreal previously told Global News.
“A weighted blanket will help to quiet down your neurotransmitters [that are fired by anxiety or stress] and help you feel more secure, thus improving your sleep.”
Martello says weighted blankets are often used to help children who are on the autism spectrum, and may suffer from neurological, medical or behavioural issues. It can help comfort them and allow them to fall asleep faster.

0:31 The growing popularity of weighted blankets
The growing popularity of weighted blankets
There is some evidence to show that using weight as a calming strategy can be effective.
“Weighted blankets have been around for a long time, especially for kids with autism or behavioural disturbances,” Dr. Cristina Cusin, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, said in an interview with Harvard Health Publishing.
“It is one of the sensory tools commonly used in psychiatric units. Patients who are in distress may choose different types of sensory activities — holding a cold object, smelling particular aromas, manipulating dough, building objects, doing arts and crafts — to try to calm down.”
READ MORE: Still feel tired after a good night’s sleep? You may have hypersomnia
However, there is little research to prove weighted blankets actually help adults, and there’s way less research on children.
One small 2014 study analyzed the effect of weighted blankets on sleep in children with autism spectrum disorder. Seventy-three children between the ages of five and 16 participated in the randomized controlled trial — “the gold standard type of trial,” said Dr. Jennifer Poon, a behavioural pediatrician at the Medical University of South Carolina.
One group was given weighted blankets while the other was given a placebo, and the results were clear: “It did not help them fall asleep faster, and it did not help them stay asleep [or] wake less often,” said Poon.

“I think the question people had looking at this paper … was: Is this more of a placebo effect?”
Story continues below advertisement
Anecdotally, in her work with families of children with disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, Poon has found similar results.
“I’ve had families who favour [weighted blankets] and I’ve had families who have said it hasn’t done a thing,” she said.
READ MORE: Oversleeping can increase your risk of stroke by up to 85 per cent, study says
As a pediatrician, Poon always warns parents of the potential risks associated with weighted blankets.
“One, [we need to make sure] that the child can’t open the blanket, take out the weights and swallow them,” she said. “Two, from the suffocation standpoint … if the child isn’t able to move outside of [the blanket] because it’s too heavy, that poses suffocation risk.”
Most weighted blankets come with a recommended weight standard.
Global News contacted Endy, a Canadian mattress company that makes weighted blankets, and a spokesperson said their product is recommended for adult use only.
“It is recommended that a weighted blanket be approximately 10 per cent of a person’s body weight,” said the company. “Our weighted blanket comes in one weight, which is 15 pounds, making it too heavy for most kids.”
Beware the wellness market
Products like weighted blankets have become somewhat trendy, popping up at big retailers like Indigo. On sites like Amazon Canada, anxiety relief products range from necklaces to mists to candles or even teas.
The stigma around the mental health disorder is slowly disappearing, Dr. Katherine Martinez of AnxietyBC previously told Global News, but these products are showing up in the wellness market because of our hectic world.
Story continues below advertisement
“We are in a much more fast-paced existence, especially in urban areas,” she said.
1:02 The unexpected health and social perks of dog ownership
The unexpected health and social perks of dog ownership
She adds being part of this world means wanting to deal with mental health issues quickly, and although she is hesitant to use the phrase, she says some of us look for a “quick fix.”
“You can get everything at your fingertips, so why wouldn’t we have the ability to calm the system?”
Tweet This
The target consumers of this space are also often vulnerable, she adds, and when products highlight relief, some may be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to make things work.
Some anxiety bracelets and necklaces on Amazon, for example, can cost up to $100, and for some, she adds, this could seem like a good investment for their health.
READ MORE: ‘You’re going to see a different kid’ — Why sleep should come before activities
“If it sounds too good to be true… it probably is. Do your research.”
And while she argues a product won’t cure anxiety, it can offer some relief. Studies have shown, she adds, things like exercise are proven to help people with mild depression and anxiety. Often, it’s about talking to your doctor to see what the best options are.
Story continues below advertisement
“Start with the evidence first and use [these products] with your eyes wide open.”
What happens when kids lack sleep
Not only is a child’s behaviour affected by a lack of sleep, so is their ability to perform in school.
One 2016 study showed a child’s developing brain regions are “hardest hit by sleep deprivation.” Another study found poor sleep was tied to lower academic performance.
“Research shows that having a clear mind is worth more than sometimes studying,” Loewen Nair, parenting expert and co-founder of London, Ont.-based Infinity School, previously told Global News.
“Being able to think requires a good amount of rest.”
Alternative sleep aids for children
In her work, Poon is often asked for safe sleep aids for children.
She has four recommendations:
Keep a routine, even on weekends. “[Use phrases like] ‘time to bed, time to wake’ as much as possible, and saying them seven days a week,” said Poon. “Try to avoid sleeping in on weekends, because that can disrupt our sleep cycle.”
Create soothing bedtime rituals. Calming activities like reading or having a bath, if done at the same time each day, can help a child fall asleep more easily.
Avoid caffeine. “Even things you might forget are caffeinated, like chocolate, coffee-flavoured ice cream and, of course, caffeinated beverages like [pop],” she said.
Avoid screens before bed. “Anything from TV to phones to tablets … and leaving the TV on before bedtime,” said Poon. She recommends turning off all screens one to two hours before bedtime.

March 2019 Book Reviews
I read 8 books this month!
Next by Michael Crichton (A) ⭐⭐
This novel was a little too disjointed for my liking. There was a lot to keep track of with so many different characters and storylines I didn’t enjoy it. While some of the moral hypotheticals of transhuman apes and parrots were interesting I don’t know that it was very well conveyed in the story.
Nine Pints: A Journey Through the Money, Medicine, and Mysteries of Blood by Rose George ⭐⭐⭐
I read reviews on Goodreads that compared Rose George to Mary Roach and I thought it was an apt comparison. Both are meticulous researchers who aren’t afraid to earn first-hand experience on their chosen topic and I enjoyed this book overall.
Queer Eye: Love Yourself. Love Your Life. by Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m a fan of the remake (I haven’t seen the original show) and I love the makeover concept (I used to watch marathons of What Not To Wear on TLC with my mom) The fab five and QE team did a great job with this book which encourages readers to adapt some of the lessons from the show into their own life. It was a wholesome, inspiring read and I would very much like to overhaul my wardrobe, living area, and general mindset in a week.
Wicked Bugs: The Louse That Conquered Napoleon’s Army and Other Diabolical Insects by Amy Stewart (A) ⭐⭐⭐
This book made my skin crawl, but in a cool, I like to learn kind of way. There were two important lessons in this book, both of which I (kind of) already knew: 1. It’s time for a self-diagnosis of chilopodophobia and 2. Might as well add myriapodophobia while I’m at it *shudders*.
It Ended Badly: 13 of the Worst Breakups in History by Jennifer Wright (A) ⭐⭐
The author definitely admits to using her imagination and being biased towards ‘the better story; in embellishing these real-life breakups for comedic effect. I liked her quips but found her writing style a little too dense to follow along. I found my mind wandering a lot while listening when she went off on somewhat related tangents relating to the couple’s family dynamics. It was an okay book but didn’t make me happy because of course most breakups are bad endings to good times and anyways I’m trying to be more positive in general so why did I think this was a good book to pick up and read?
The Weather Detective: Rediscovering Nature’s Secret Signs by Peter Wohlleben ⭐⭐⭐
I’ve read Wohlleben’s 2 other books, the Hidden Life of Trees and the Inner Lives of Animals and very much enjoyed them, so I knew this book would be right up my alley. It was. I really enjoyed it and as I’ve been thinking about keeping a small garden outdoors this summer, I feel more prepared to take on the task and enjoy the time outside. I don’t know how many of his tips I’ll put into practice but at the very least the short chapter lengths made for great bite sized reading on my half hour lunch breaks at work :)
Fairy Tales Written by Rabbits by Mary A. Parker ⭐⭐⭐
This was a cute book written by @drferox on Tumblr. I loved the art at the start of each chapter and the narrative style. Heath and Millet were very brave rabbits and their mannerisms were very rabbit-like throughout the story. It was especially neat to read this after going to Australia in November and I am happy to have purchased a copy in support of this indie author.
Looptail: How One Company Changed the World by Reinventing Business by Bruce Poon Tip ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I work for a travel agency and came across this book while attending a webinar for G Adventures. This book, by the company’s founder (he doesn’t like to be called CEO), was quite interesting. He explains how he had a vision for his company and remained unwilling to compromise or sell out on that vision through economic recessions, a sinking expedition vessel, and a changing industry. I’ve been looking forward to traveling solo-but-as-part-of-a-group for a while now and based on everything I know about the company, G Adventures is high on my list. Not to @ them, but I’d love to join a FAM and maybe one day even I’ll apply to work for the company.

Untitled (proposal deconstructed through speaking)
My final major project will extend the written word constructed as a thesis, in an attempt to demonstrate skateboarding’s combination of physicality, skill, image and mindset. Into a medium within the plastic art’s that can visually express the motion/emotion of a skateboarder. How does the habitual repetitiveness of skating construct the individual.
Untitled Unknown City Image Into Representation Representation Into Image Good Stacy Peraltta Quote… What is the language of skateboarding? (medium) thing Page 6 Pause —
write list as submission…use deconstruction as work.
Highlight the non list parts in colour
So my final major project will an extol of the thesis i wrote upon the action and gesture of skateboarding, er not predominately of skateboarding imagery wise errrrr but of the many different fasits and tangents that form from one when they skateboard. So in order to articulate, as an extension from the thesis that i wrote, um I'm going to clearly…like aesthetically visualise what the piece of work will be..um
I have so far written…..a seriece of notes witch are various different ideas, so far…and so..make a google map of spots, post images to coordinates, post map. make a google map of graffiti and statements…post locations and images…and passages. make a google map of my own personal derive, that pin points specific places that attract then repulse me.
Cover public architecture with canvas…collect two weeks later…if they are still their… stretch them over wood. photograph them. Cover specific spots with canvas…have skaters skate them…stretch them over a wooden stretcher. Cover a wall with canvas….wallride them, stretch them over a wooden stretcher.
Détourn billboards…detourn public space…pour concrete over public space.
As and example of this, my, i was…errr basically took…I spray painted over a sign and then i write poo next to it, when ‘poon’ not poon or poo next to it i wrote um as to remove the label of the..Osbourn sign witch was on a construction site….errr…back to reading this out…
Détourn Chilche phrases in skateboarding.
Graffiti statements across the roads that are interesting to you as a skateboarder———skatepark statement with spelling mistake..ironey of appropriated/détourned…so here I'm talking about…um…talking about when i…when i wrote…(sigh)…i wrote a statement with was sort of an appropriated from Guy Debord and the situationists and i spray painted onto a ramp, thats at the skatepark but it wasn't a ramp for sort of..was built by the skatepark, it was a ramp that was built and then taken their by a skateboarder, its like a wooden ramp, not a concrete one…um and i wrote the phrase Work is the slavery…of…hold on…gonna have to check now…work is the slavery of…(indistinct noise)….not the slavery..”WORK IS THE BLACKMAIL OF SURVIVAL”… and then i wrote my ‘poon’, like a tag type thing next to it..its pretty dumb but….
Go to the skatepark late at night.. and over the whole ramp and cover..o…(tuts) Go to the skatepark at night and cover a whole ramp in canvas record the response.
Appropriate, reappropriate and collage all material collected as imagery and resend….(long pause)
Appropriate, reappropriate and collage all material collected as imagery………and research, as in imagery and research..(deep breath in) and (out) wheat paste these up…plus inspiration imagery..so that was my idea to take everything that i produce wether it be imagery and research and sort of appropriate them…reappropriate the appropriations….and collage..so..have some sort of non-order or an order dependent on what it be of the materials and wheat paste them across Brighton…in sort of a..a sort of gesture of being aware of all the imagery and everything thats sort of being articulated and have some sort of..public factor in this piece of work..(burps)…pardon me…(cloths rustle)…(makes noise with mouth)…..
de knob the defensive architecture at Edward Street put in a bag and mail them to the university of Brighton hang..hang a…Banner Détourn-ing University’s…Hang a banner détouring…this one doesn't really make sense…Hang a banner detouring universities and the passivity of the student affiliation…er..passivity of the student alienation from the realistic practise that would have been..at the hand of the student in the past…….thats sort of like me wanting to..make a point of being in uni to everyone..that it would be hanging a banner or something like that..about the fact that..like..universitys have just changed..from…what i know of it obviously I've only been in university once but there just getting worse…and its all fucking…so much austerity…(deep breath in)..errr..create a fake organisation called get people to sign up…o…get people to sign up..create a fake organisation called…sort of a name…like an acronym..get people to sign up..and then…once they've signed up photograph them and have them with there like sign up sheets…urmm…so I'm sort of photographing them them in the process of them signing up to a fake organisation…and then…it would be called Fasade…Alienation..Kingdom..England…so the acronym of that would be FAKE..like…yeah Facade Alienation Kingdom England…(noises)…(stretches)…
Film yourself skating in Brighton and London for 1 hour go to the tate project it on the turban hall floor’s..thats simple enough..i just wanna film skate for an hour and then take it too the tate modern and according to the idea i had thesis about Jennifer West n how..she….sort of…she just sort of seemed to…usurp..skateboarding as a…cultural sign or signifier of something and then work it into her own practise in that piece. An i wanted to yeh take skating around Brighton or London or Brighton and London for 1 hour maybe just journey too London, i haven't really thought far ahead..these all just random ideas…um..and got to the tate and project it on the turbine hall floor, so have a portable projector and project it on the turbine hall floor…be funny to see response of people around me as i do that…(laughs to himself)…probly get kicked out or just looked at n some people would ask questions or just dunno..all sorts of reactions probly…um…
all moments of daily life that captures your attention photograph, film, draw, write and collage weekly…so weekly..yeh..this sort of relates to the inspiration imagery where i wanna wheat paste up…loads of imagery across brighton of this sort of project..ina sort of public environment…um….yeah so…everything i do towards this project…all the imagery and everything that gets created or whatever it be that gets created through this project i want to..weekly..do like a wheatpaste of it…so it sort of continually grows and it can also give me something to do which is like an activity which is sort of like uh accumulation of the project across time until the final thing comes out…cause i still haven't figured out the final thing..(breath in)..er..
Get kicked out of university for making art…yehh…(laughs to himself)…thats probably not going to happen…o it might do what use the studio space on the second floor and skate it and blah blah blah (breaths in) but yeh..ummm…….have a fake meeting witha..hold a fake meeting with a tutor..put,place a cardboard cut out of yourself in place and have them….in place of your human presence yeh..have a fake meeting with a tutor and place a cardboard cut out of yourself…in place of your human..presence yeh
so thats 18 ideas..and theres..so more…(picks up piece of paper) ..um..(breaths in) do a lecture on my thesis that incorporates google images and is a live streamed and is live streamed to an audience that may have a response or interest in the subject matter of my work. (breaths in) So..yeh screen record and audio record yourself whilst studying and tabs that you open while your showing them things on google…i supposed it would have to be a duration so what of a duration to the piece cause so many tabs can be opened before the internet starts crashing um………yeh that could..sort of be a reproduced version like..the lecture itself if i record all of that whole thing and then sort of have the screen screen recording and audio recording..of myself…studying (mumble)..basiclly thats yeah..i wanted to a lecture on my thesis thats incorporates google images and is a live stream to the audience..um…they may have a response or and interest in this subject matter of my work..but also………….i have another part the pei..the same piece where its like its a screen recording and an audio recording of myself studying..the tab growth..when I'm sort of researching…something i wanna do(breath out)..its sort of like a diary or a dialog of….the person using the internet to find out something……….
Get a large group of skateboarders to boycott the skatepark in there local city……yeah thats pretty self explanatory.
um
make a dairy of when you skate, time and date it, and where you skated (coordinates+postcode)… yeah thats quite unlikely that I'm gonna do cause when i skate i just go and skate cause i wanna go skate…you sort of do it…you cant really ‘do’ skateboarding and think about skateboarding at the same time if that makes sense..(breaths in)….(indistinguishable sound)………..yeah
Defensive architecture academic text, try and find something on defensive architecture, that’s something i wanna research into..urm..
Make an animation of one of Rodney’s clips, so yeah make an animation of Rodney Mullen…casue he's fuckin sick..(sighs)..
Go to the keep and talk about Brightons industrial revolution, so yeah, thats came out of an idea…well..thats came out of going to speak to someone…at the museum of Brighton..about where i can find maps and stuff, and actually that came out of me and Matt talking about…um…this idea for a project i have…(breaths in)…um….yeah…she..she gave me a good idea about…a good idea of where…to sort of find those industrial maps and stuff. Cause id like to collage and stuff and sort of use them in my work somehow, and it gives it a good context…if you think about it…cause I'm doing work..specifically a city…um..yeh..shes actually a really nice person..and she’l probably come to the exhibition..if i.i tell her about it later date, at a later date or something, but yeh i need to go to the keep, before i do all that.
(breath in) Get blue prints of the skatepark that was original, the wooden one, what was the location, before it was a skatepark. How did the change the community..the er..sort of..try and find the original blue print’s of that skatepark that was built..there was like a wooden…wooden skatepark..and what was the location..of it..so like…whe where did it sit in a city sort of where…how did that..affect the community…surronding that skatepark…what was the..dynamic of that areaofe that city of Brighton…um yeah.. skateparks are pretty shitty places..
work in super 8 or earliest medium of skateboarding..i still haven't figured out…how I'm gonna film all this..or not..i think that gonna come through the process of actually…doing these 18 ideas…(scoughs) not even 18 theres probably…21 22 23 24 25 (faintly) 26 27 (indistinguishable sound)..30..31..like 31 roughly…(shuffles)…yeassss..(shuffles)…ive also got a Gary Hill book out..(ruffels pages)…(indistinguishable sound)…(breaths out)..
