The Promise, chapter 10

Link blinked behind his deck of cards, trying repeatedly to moisten his eyes, dry and burning from exhaustion and misery. His swollen eye ached, not appreciating the simple gesture.

He liked playing cards. Usually. Adel had dragged him and two cousins into a round of whist as soon as they met up again with the ladies in the drawing room.

At least the atmosphere was much looser than it had been during the dinner since the men didn’t have to watch their manners without the ladies close by. Postures were more relaxed, the glasses full of brandy and whisky instead of wine, and the jokes were a lot dirtier.

Most hits: Hollowed Moon, an unfinished Steven Universe canon divergent thing that strangely took off like wildfire due to the SU movie coming out days before posting and the story's inclusion of Spinel. Over 37,000 hits for a fic that barely has 8K words... I really don't understand either, ahahah. I'm flattered, though.

Second most kudos: Crack the Paragon, an unfinished Steven Universe canon divergent fic where all of the season 5 plot bombs come crashing down on Steven and his family in the Bismuth episode, and things get Messy. 1,697 kudos.

Third most comments: Misalignment, an unfinished Steven Universe: Future canon divergent fic where a very troubled Steven runs away, and his family has to deal with the fallout. 230 comments.

Fourth most bookmarks: Shattering Atlas, a Steven Universe speculative fic written two months before SU: Future aired that focuses on the theory that Steven would corrupt himself due to his extreme emotional turmoil. 142 bookmarks, 103 of those are publicly visible.

Fifth most words: A Tale of Two Trollhunters, a super niche Gravity Falls/Trollhunters fusion crossover I started and never did anything with beyond four chapters (and one half chapter I have on the sidelines.) Honestly I still quite like the general premise of this one, I might continue on with it eventually if I get bored. 14,954 words.

Horror/thriller. I love love love to read it, but I have a hard time trying to write stuff that’s creepy/scary without it collapsing into corn.

One True Champion?

Thank you for the ask itcantbe! One True Champion is a working title for my Hunger Games Inspired fic, another title is possibly "Goddess Games" but I sort of stopped working on this fic when DTCA started happening. This would be a long fic for sure, potentially more than one part, I have a lot of plans for later scenes in this fic and some for the start so I need to think of a way to connect them all that makes sense. I also have some more characters to create for it but I'm quite pleased with the progress so far and will hopefully start to post it when I either finish my current long fic, or I have written most/all of it and can post regular updates. Here is a tiny snippet if anyone is interested: These fables had been warped over the years, manipulated and twisted into something more sinister and bloodthirsty. A fight to the death in which there could only ever be one winner and it was never the last man standing. The new style of tournament was a way to sow fear into the masses so that they will not revolt against the powers that be. They were held randomly, with seemingly no pattern to keep the commoners on their toes.

It was a dystopian nightmare for most disguised and advertised as a utopian dream, depending on who you asked.

🎈describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

I hope that it changes. 😅 I have a few things that I know I'm doing well. I'm decent at coming up with the plot, I have a solid (chapter) structure down, and I'm also good at clarity and writing dialogue. So that are the basics but I learn all the time. At the moment, I'm working with @itcantbe on my regency fic The Promise and her comments really help me to find the thin spots in my writing. I usually only add a sentence or two, but it makes a big difference. It's hard to describe but my writing is getting richer and the overall product reads much smoother and I noticed that I already think ahead while I edit. Sometimes I'm like, uh, oh, she'll mark that, better brush it up a bit... 🤣

💋when you leave comments on a fic, do you want to hear back from the writer?

Tbh, my comments are usually not so deep that they require an answer. So if I get one, it's fine, if not, I don't mind. I don't answer every comment myself because I feel stupid writing ten times 'Thank you' in a row. 🙈 So I just answer the ones when someone is new or wrote an analysis or has a question.🙈🙈🙈
